I've been watching G9 vs GH5 comparison videos for the last 2 days or so, and yours is so practical and informative, it really helps understand the keep differences between these 2 nevertheless amazing cameras. Thank you!!
Panasonic G9 is amazing with video features too. 4K 60, 10-bit 422 internal, 1080p up to 180fps, I know the GH5 can do all that too and more but the more wasn't worth the extra money to me, both great cameras 😁
Same here, I had the GH5 but switched to the G9. I am not a hardcore video guy and started doing more and more photography. The thing I miss most is the shutter angle option, really handy that. Unlimited recording was also nice to have on the GH5, but in all my time with the camera, I only had to use it once.
The Gh5 is my dream camera and I finally got it. I was debating what my perfect B camera would be and I finally decided that I want a Iphone 12 pro max. The ability to attach a usb mic to the iphone and be able to attach the mic and phone on top of the camera is really useful. I can use the Iphone as a B cam to get an alternative shot or as a audio interface/mixer for monitoring or alternatively as a live view monitor. The GH5 and Iphone 12 max both have sensor shift stabilization!
@@Provolt Stage performances, legal videos, sports general coverage cams, etc. Not a lot of people may shoot these, but you do frequently need to keep a camera rolling un-cut for 30+ minutes.
As far as I know the G9 has the Waveform tool since the last firmware update provided that you have purchased and installed V-Log L. Further, the G9 has a better photo processing so that jpegs look slightly better than those out of the GH5.
Great B-roll! I really liked the intro sequence. As for which camera to choose, you pretty much nailed it. If your use case is strictly videography, the GH5 will suit you far better with the ability to record 4096x2160 at 400mbps. If you're looking for a camera that shoots exceptional stills and can also provide "good enough for most" video, the G9 is the choice. I debated long and hard between both cameras and ended up with the G9 because I don't have any need for the advanced video features of the GH5. The options provided by the G9 - especially after firmware 2.0 - are more than enough to satisfy my needs. I also have the option of purchasing the V-Log L package to get even more video function in the future. My biggest, and primary, complaint about the G9's video capability is the 29:59 recording limit in all modes (except 4K60, which has a 10:00 limit). Obviously, it's easily solved with an external recorder, but would be nice not to have the limits imposed in the first place.
@David Dez an external recorder is a device you attach to your camera that records the output over HDMI. A good example is the Atomos Ninja V. Because you're not actually recording on the camera itself, you're bypassing the recording limit imposed by it. Now your only limit is how much hard drive space you have left.
@@26alexxkidd I didn't specifically mention the lack of ALL-I in the G9; however, I did point out that it doesn't record in C4K (4096x2160). If you need advanced video functionality for your workflow, then the GH5 is most certainly the obvious choice over the G9.
do u know if the video quality is the same? like.. the same sensor and stuff

New sub! Amazing video and now thanks to this I just closed my first camera selection to 2 cameras, this g9 which and the g85 (maybe g95 that can shoot 120 fps in 1080p and has a headphone jack) but now the hardest part is choose the right lens, which should in be a budget as I think the kit lens can do the job for landscapes and then another lens for portraits, which one do you recommend for that?
Hi Tony, thanks for watching! As for the lense if you are on the budget, you can try Panasonic 42.5mm F1.7 or Olympus 45mm F1.8. As for your landscapes shot you can always use your kit lense first since you'll be shooting in a highter f stops. Hope it helps :)

@@ianvins1955 thank you man! the 42.5mm is good for b rolls too? and which lens is the best for low light video?
Yes most close up shot was taken with 42.5mm, for budget lense you can try 42.5mm F1.7 from Lumix or Olympus 45mm F1.8

This video is great! I just bought a g9 but fear I made a mistake. I will be using this for video more often and the lack of XLR input capability is killing me. What is the best option? I havent found a good option for XLR on g9. Should I swap for a gh5 so I can use the XLR accessory? I just got it, so I could return….

Hey man! Awesome vid! Just got the g9 as a b cam to my gh5, can’t help but notice a loss in video quality in the g9, the gh5 looks a lot more filmic and detailed to me? What’s been your experience?
Hi Guys! I can't decide which camera would fit my needs better. I'll be mostly into filming with occasional photo shoots. The g9 is cheaper so I'm thinking of spending these spare $$$ on lenses. What do you think? Does my thinking make any sense? I'd appreciate any advice. Cheers :)
Hi Mateusz, G9 is a perfect choice in my opinion. Since the last firmware update, the camera works well for both Photo and video. The only downside is the ISO performance and Depth of field since it use a micro four thirds sensor, other than that it's a perfect camera.
This camera has a recording limit of just 30 minutes, which is very bad when I'm filming long-term event, and it also heats up a lot. The camera is excellent for photography, but for working with videos of event and long interviews, it is very bad because of the recording time limit of 30 minutes, and the camera turns off every 10 or 30 minutes.

the gh5 only does 4k60 in 8 bit 420 (internally) as far as I know
There may be price variations. In this case here in Brazil, the G9 has a higher cost than the GH5 due to demand.

My G9 literally rendered my entire apsc collection obsolete. Sending it all to Adorama this week. Top notch content upload Ian
Lowlight beast enough?
Wow nice
You forgot to mention the GH5 has unlimited video recording vs the G9 which has only under 30 minutes time. That's a major deal breaker.
I shoot 1hr long catholic wedding ceremonies and I use G9s. 30min limit has never been an issue for me.
Who would keep a camera rolling for an hour and not touch it. Doesn't seem like a huge deal breaker
Easy crack to makee it illimited (on RUclips...)

Nice video! Is the video quality better on all-i 400mbit or is the quality from the G9 good enough?
@@peterp7736 in my experience, the 150mbps is more than enough. The All-I in GH5 is nice but after compression, you can’t really tell.
Very good video to help with key factors to compare.
