What a great video! Here it is, 4 years later and people are still commenting, asking questions, etc. It's still a *very* helpful comparison of 2 major Lumix entries in the m4/3 world. And you engage with the commenters, even now 4 years after the video was made. Now for my G9/G95/G85 story. I wanted an addition to my em10 mk ii this last spring (Never selling the 10.2). G85 was my first choice, but they were scarce, and still pretty expensive vs the G95. The G9 was *expensive* and too heavy--i moved to m4/3 in 2016 for the light weight and the IBIS. The G95 had the 20mp sensor upgrade and the 4k burst mode, perfect for catching grand daughters when they accidentally flip on the water slide (nobody was hurt) a half second before I press the shutter. And it has a great viewfinder. It's a little heavy for my taste, but at $490 including the 12-60mm Lumix lens, I'd be crazy not to snap it up. Open box from one of the US's two biggest online photo stores with only 180 actuations and full manufacturer's warranty. The only downside--the Lumix menu system. I'm used to the Olympus system, so the Lumix menus seem a bit confusing. I guess it's a matter of what you "grew up" with. 😊 Thanks again for all your help and instruction in your videos--gear, aesthetics, how to..., It's all good! Keep up the good work. Oh, and you change camera angles whenever you like! --Brent
If I were to choose, I'd go for G9. That thing is built like a tank, has comfortable hand-holding grip and has flasgship camera specs (1/8000sec mechanical shutter, 4K60, dual SD slots, etc). Also, the better IS is important to me!
I bought a G9 and sold my G90. Instantly regretted selling it and bought another G90. I think this is now the best of both worlds and the G90 makes a great back up camera.
@@isaacsospedra3955 The G90 has quite a crop when shooting 4k and the autofocus system is not as advanced as the G9. If you can live with both these issues, you have a great portable camera. I use mine 90% of the time over my G9. For me having the G9 and G90 gives you the best of both worlds.
I have had the G9 for a few years and it is still my main camera. I love it. I use the GH5 II for serious video, and I have a savings account for the G9 II. However I am thinking about getting a G90 as a vlogging camera. It is better for social media and in addition to live composit, it also has a panorama mode, which is something I find very useful. Plus it is lighter weight, which is valuable for vlogging.
I have both and I find the G95 a much better handling camera. Comparing the two, the G9 's playback button is way over to the top left, and the G95's is placed almost in the perfect position on the right just above the dial. The front dial on the G9 is a wheel dial that sits behind the shutter button and is not as easy to use. The front dial on the G95 is positioned around the shutter button and makes it simple to operate. The G9 has no flash and on many occasions, I have used the G95's built-in flash for fill-in lighting using a custom diffuser. And another bonus for the G95 is it has Live View Composite! The latest G95D has a higher-resolution OLED display compared to the G9's LCD.
I tend to agree. I am in the process of selling off my Canon gear and have bought the G9 and lenses. Next year it will probably become B camera to a GH-6 when that arrives, but I doubt the GH-6 will get the Best To Use crown from the G9. The GH-6 is likely to have fantastic video features, but the G9 goes beyond just features. It just feels right in the hand. Panasonic got it right with that camera.
I’ve used Canon, Nikon and Panasonic cameras pretty extensively and I have to say the G9 and my other LUMIX cameras have the best, most convenient controls of all. The playback and zoom on Canons is silly-press a button, press another button that zooms in too much, then use a wheel to adjust the magnification, with all those controls spread around the camera. With LUMIX you hit a button and scroll to your desired magnification. Canons also don’t let you adjust the exp. comp in certain situations until you half press the shutter. It’s always readily available on LUMIX cameras. Minor quibbles, normally, but when you’re shooting in fast-changing, tricky situation like a fashion show they make a difference. And for stills, the LUMIX DFD really is as good as Panasonic claims.
Thank you for this review I was undecided on the G9 and the G90 and trying to decide which one would be better for me, I did not know the G9 had no built in flash for me that is a deal breaker thank you for shearing, posting and for your knowledge.
I got my G9 yesterday evening. Switch from the G90 to this 'older' Panasonic G9 feels more like a firm upgrade to me. Good build quality and more resolution options. 😊
Great comparison. I own the G9 and G85 so am pretty well set. But the G90/95 would be a great buy for someone that didn't own those. Lumix cameras are feature-packed, just hope the video AF gets improved. Will be interesting to see how Panasonic develops its camera line now that they are into FF territory.
Hi Matti! Thank you for this compact and factual comparison. It is a pity that Panasonic is so reluctant with firmware updates. I think that it would not be a problem to offer the live composition mode in the G9 as well. For me, an important difference between g9 and g90 is the number of autofocus points. 225 instead of 49 points makes it easier to set the focus point correctly. Overall, the G9 is far from being an old model. It beats many newer competitors when it comes to image quality, features and especially ergonomics.
Both nice cameras though you tip the scale towards G9 but I'm mostly video ... was even more impressed with your skill and craftsmanship - hands-down the cleanest most pro style presentation I have seen on **ANY** product review channel. Awesome and inspiring video creation choices. Thanks for a great watch!
Great job on this video!! I like how you move to different scenes and the clarity of this video is very sharp and clean! I've looked at five big name cameras in the micro 4/3's so far and I believe I will go with the Lumix G9. Thanks for posting this video!
My reason for buying into M4/3 was for the smaller size. These cameras are about the same size of a DSLR, which have larger sensors. Yes, I know smaller lenses, but......
Hi Matti, thanks for the informative videos! I've narrowed my list down to these 2 cameras so I thought I would see if you might give me your opinion. Used I can get the G9 for US$770 with 12-60mm kit lens and g95/90 with 12-60mm lens for US$530. I was going to go with the g9 when the price difference was more like US$100, for the extra video features, no crop in 4k, better stabilization / AF. But, now with the larger price difference I am torn. Some considerations: - I primarily record motorcycle camping asmr trips alone (so size/weight is important for packing on moto) in 4k 24p/30p. 60p nice-to-have vs necessity - I don't intend to color grade much, will probably use Natural or Cine D on either camera, so 10-bit/vlog is a nice-to-have vs necessity - The 4k crop on the g95/90 is a concern - for wide angle: landscape, astro/night lapse; POV/Vlog; and closed in campsites where I can't compensate with moving the camera farther away. Is the crop really that bad? - with either camera I intend to get the laowa 7.5mm for wider shots, astro/night lapse. However, the US$240 savings on the g95/90 is almost the cost of this lens which is helpful. What do you think in terms of cost benefit? Thanks!
I'd take the G9 because it's so much more versatile and a better camera. However, you have to remember that this is my opinion, not yours. What I prefer may not be perfect for you.
Good video thank you sir ! been looking at G9 videos lately, and even after two years old and compared to some new cameras, the G9 still gets very good reviews. Panasonic sure knows how to make a good camera. cheers.
I‘m sure its possible to Update live Composite per Firmware to the G9. It was possible too at the OMD E-M1 I per Firmware in the past. Please Panasonic, do it!
Nice comparison thanks! I would love to get the live view composite on the G9... Do think is possible that they can add this feature as a firmware update? Looking forward to see your next video.
Appearance, weight or handling are minor elements compared to the most important issue. Tonal dynamic range. Does the G9 perform better? Does it have a greater range? In the case of these two cameras, it seems impossible to overlook this? It's the most important parameter for digital cameras, and there's no mention of looks.
Funny I can see my old comment below. Now I’m out of m43 I’m looking to get back in. I like both but the g95 is a little smaller. It always appeared Matty used the g95 more
I've owned both cameras g9 and g95. I've missed the g95 since I sold it. I miss it's size and it's unlimited recording. Now I'm starting to play with night photography thinking about the g95 again...... Or a gx9 but not sure if that has long exposure composition
Good job on the comparison Matti. While they both look good (I prefer the smaller form factor of the G95) I think I will wait another generation to upgrade my G85 and GX85 cameras.
Still a great review after 5 years, hey Matti, did you mention how many steps it takes to get into Live Composition for long exposure... Panasonic made this difficult to find and too many steps, but G95 overall is good for the $$.
Thanks! I guess it takes a bit too much to find the Live Comp settings. Even though I'm not a brand ambassador any more I do still own some Lumix cameras but I hardly ever use the Live Comp so I don't really pay much attention to it😀
Thank you for a future video on G95 live composite. I am particularly interested in if you can use it for moving clouds and water and not just star trails and light painting.
Well, incredible that almost all reviewers omit an incredibly strong feature of G9: the advanced eye/face/body detection focus which comes with the better AF system. Just one example: when shutting with G9 you can manually select which of the detected faces should be in focus. AFAIK G9 (and maybe S1 series) are currently the only cameras on the market which can do this thing! As this is a killer feature for me I simply don’t believe this was that unimportant thing as no reviewers would consider it worth mentioning. Pity.
Thanks for your comment. These are some main differences that I think are important based on my experience and I use these cameras every day. But maybe someone else with different shooting style would select other features.
Hey there, I've been watching your content for a few years now. I'm reconsidering my purchase I made about a year ago. I bought the Panasonic G95 to replace my Sony a6400. I miss the ease of use I had with my Sony. What do you think about wanting to switch back to Sony. I loved the autofocus it had. It was always locked on you and never hunted for focus. I only chose the G95 for photo and video and with that video that would run for hours without over heating. I never ran my Sony when I have it outdoors but want to record myself doing my work while I do carpentry jobs but I'm not sure how it would handle summer heat up here in Canada. I'm in real need of a professional opinion.
You have to choose the camera that you like to use. Sony AF is the best and that's why it's really great for filming yourself. Just hit the record and do your thing in front of the camera and never worry about the focus. I have the A7C and so far never had any over heating problems, but it's not very hot where I live. However, in normal room temperature I can run it as long as the battery dies.
thank you for your nice review, i was really considering one of those. i already shoot my videos on the blackmagickpocket 4k but i wanted to have a good 4k with ibis, the g9 seems pretty good. which one would you go for for videos?
Thank you for that video since I am looking at my next mid-range camera. I am waiting on Olympus to see what they do with their E-M5 III. Your video helped me to see a comparison that might not be ever mentioned in any other reviewers and maybe something I would over look, Live Composite. I love that about my E-M10. Could you show us how the focusing is between these two cameras?
@@mattisulanto one thing I really liked about the G85 was the very useful manual focus magnification assistance, instead the whole screen, it magnifies on the focus point. Also the grip and the new live composite mode of the G95 has really got my attention in comparison to the E-M5. I feel the uphill battle that Olympus has against the a6400 and X-T30 is focusing, especially if they stick to contrast only with their E-M5. Panasonic has done a good job with DFD. I don't need 425 phase detection of the Fuji or Sony. Olympus has a good 121 phase detection system with their E-M1 but their development of their contrast system is less to be desired. Olympus has kept the E-M1 at a price I don't want to pay right now. I'm willing to wait for the G95 to go down to $1000 or see what comes out with the E-M5.
Thank you for your nicely crafted video. And I was wondering if, as a Lumix Ambassador, there is anyway you ask for us who bought the g95 for a firmware update of some sort .....autofocus is terrible and as someone post on dpreview almost 3 years ago : It seems that Panasonic has forgotten that they make the G90. There have been numerous G9 etc firmware updates, but only one for the G90. My biggest gripe is that on the GH5 etc you can get a corrected EVF image from the V-LOG video option, which can be accessed in the menu. On the G90 it is just an empty space in the menu. Then there is the lack of HDMI streaming, which is available on the G9, G100 etc. Animal focus would also be a welcome addition. Panasonic G90 owners are being treated extremely poorly for their loyalty. g85 even get is 1.6 version on Apr. 25, 2022 Thank you
Thanks. That video is about four years old and I quit being a brand ambassador in 2021. So, unfortunately I can't help you in this one. However, I agree that there should have been some FW updates for the G90, which is a really nice camera.
Annoyingly I could use the features of both as a GX80 and G80 owner. As a wildlife shooter that also likes video to get my ideal setup would cost a chunk of cash so thinking of maybe getting a GH5 as an inbetween of a G9 and G90. Does the Gh5 have the high res mode and 4k/6k burst?
I'm sorry, but I can't remember the specifications of the GH5 and I don't have it. I recommend you check it out for example on DPR, they usually list all the specs really well.
Thanks for your comment. If you are looking for a more photo centric camera that the GH5, I'd recommend the G9. I think it's better than the GH5 for photos, but can be used as a b camera also for video. But as always, don't rely only on my opinion, check out the camera for yourself if only possible.
Upgraded to the Gh5 ii from G95, then had my GH5 ii stolen, so back to using G95 and when it comes to stills I realise how disconnected from the subject/model you are with the the G95 but as a travel camera it's fantastic and for those one handed shots and video, the ergonomics are fantastic, not sure I will be staying with Lumix for the upgrade.
I got my g95 for 600 USD new so the g9 was not an option for me. I love my g95, pretty happy with it since I'm a beginner, and also I have small hands so it's great!
Hello, nice video! I have a small question: does these two camera have video recording time limit as 29 minutes 59 second for a single video? Thank you!
Hi, Im deciding a bit in between these two. What about the focusing for sport photography? I mean tracking the subject like afc. Is it the same or g9 is faster or better focusing? Thanks a lot! Matej
I don't do much sport photography, so I can't really give you a very solid answer. But, the G9 is the flagship MFT model and I suppose it would be the best choice.
@@mattisulanto thanks. The thing is i need kinda allrounder video and photo. If the focusing is better on g9, i would take it. If it's the same tho, i would appreciate the body to be like 100g lighter, tho...which means g90. Hard deciding...
I have a G85 but I am interested in these upgrades. Does the G90/95’s Live Comp produce RAW images? Olympus’ cameras can do this. Secondly, do either of these cameras have a record limit? For event videography no time limit is important. Thanks
Thanks for your comment. Yes the Live Comp produces RAW and that's why it's so cool. The G90/95 has no video record limit, other than the size of the card.
Great video. Is the G95 a significant upgrade in video quality compared to the G85??? I cannot find any information on this anywhere. Best regards, Campbell from NZ. In New Zealand G9 is twice the price of the G85, and still a lot more expensive than the G95. I think the limited record times of the G9 are a significant consideration. The G95 gives unlimited record times.
@@mattisulanto Many thanks, So I guess the question is, do I want to spend more on a slightly better stills camera. You have helped a lot. Best regards, Cam, NZ
I published a video about my video gear recently. Please watch it, you'll find it on my channel easily. In the video description, which is under every video, it says I'm based in Helsinki Finland. Thank you for your comment.
I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean. However, I'm going to tell you right away, that I don't use Lumix cameras any more and I have no chance to double check any settings. Please, check the camera user manual first.
2021 UPDATE - The G95/90 can now (11/21) be purchased on sale in the US with the 12-60mm kit lens (which is very good) for around 20 to 30 percent less than the G9, body only. Also, while the G95/90 is not small, the G9 is huge - about the size and weight of a DSLR. Even though it clearly has superior specs, I recently bought and returned the G9 for this reason alone, knowing I would never want to carry it around with me. There is nothing "micro" about the G9 except the sensor! Anyhow, I ordered a G95, and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's small enough for my tastes. 🤞
@@mattisulanto I got a very good deal at US $698 with the 12-60mm kit lens, but I'll only keep it if its substantially smaller than the G9. It looks like it in your video, but I won't know for sure until it arrives.
Thank you for a very informative review, would you kindly tell me if the G9 has better skin tones than the G90 which would give better portraits or is there no difference in your opinion ?. I have the Panasonic FZ1000 and the skin tones are a bit flat I have used DSLRs and SLRs in the past so no usage problems. Thank you.
@@mattisulantoThanks for the prompt reply,Do you mean portrait mode on the fZ1000? No I haven't I never have used those settings, I use it like a dslr.
@@mattisulanto.Thank you for the suggestion, I'll try it, I thought it just softened the image to be more flattering, I wasn't aware that it changed skin tones.Again thank you for your quick reply.
Well, I don't shoot sports, so I can't really give you a definite answer. That's also quite a broad question, because you can shoot sports in so many ways. For example, an American photographer David Burnett has shot incredible sports pictures on a 4x5 view camera. At the and of the day it's all about your imagination and how you want to use your camera. Thanks for commenting.
Hi, nice review. I assume you are using cca gh5s as main rec.cam (M4/3) and autofocus is off. In " ruclips.net/video/IsimCHrM4T0/видео.html " I noticed that foreground and backround is sharp. Which lenso (or trick) are you using to achive this, so you do not need to fosus all the time?
I was using the GH5s and I just prefocused before I started recording. I'm using a super wide lens (8-18mm zoom) and I could touch the screen to focus.
You can choose how it works. You can make a backup on the second card, you can save RAW on one card and jpeg on the other or you can save stills on one card and movie on the other. You can also fill one card first and then the other.
@@tearitloosetearitloose4670 I don't own a Lumix with that feature any more, so please don't hold your breathe, but I'm not saying I'm never going make that video.
@@mattisulanto yes. You said in the video the G9 is freeze proof but the G90/95 is not. According to the specifications on the Panasonic website they’re both the same temp rating.
@@mattisulanto i already have a g85 and i am really happy with it. but you know, we always look for the better)) i will be happy to wait for the future videos.
I want to teach videography and use a good camera... The question is: 1.- Buying a GX85 very compact camera in a low price and record quality video with: "Atomos Ninja V" or: 2 .- Forget about the compactness of the Gx85 and go for a more expensive and newer camera like the GH6 camera and not use the "Atomos Ninja V". it is an easy or difficult choice, for a person as experienced as you?
That's a fair point and good that you brought it up. The limit is not important for me and I guess that's why I didn't mention it. Thanks for your comment.
@@mattisulanto OK, that explains it then. My wife says that I have lead up my well anyway, this video was very helpful to Mr. I have been using the G7 for almost 7 years and wanted to upgrade. I wanted a camera with in-body stabilization at least some weather sealing and if possible a better sensor. I figured that i would probably have to go up to APS-c or full frame until I saw this. I appreciated the G9, G95 side by side comparisons. I chose the G95 and it arrived on Tuesday. I didn't want the recording limits, and I often take photos at night, and like the ability to watch my exposures progression. There were a few things I liked better about the G9, but the G95 seemed a better fit for me. I tried a few photos handheld with my 35mm prime that has no image stabilization, and found the sensor stabilization adequate for indoor existing light at ASA, err, I mean ISO 200. Showing my age lol. If I did any professional work, I would have gone with the G9. I have never had a catd failure, but Murphys law would cause a card failure as soon as I agreed to take cash for a photo shoot. Thank you for the side by side and your other great videos, and your sense of humor.
G90 almost similar to G81 except new sensor & some additional functions. Its definitely not G9 level camera. Why 1000 euro for this (only body)? it must cost max 700 euros ,and G81 just rotated out. While its understandable why G9 cost 1200 euro, price for G90 is too high.IMHO.
Totally agree. A huge letdown to me. Sony and Fuji want to compete with everyone, Panasonic does not even want to compete with their own models...That is what I see at work here.
New sensor, body design from G9, v-log, unlimited record time ... G90 is more like a hybrid camera like the GH5 and not solely a stills camera like the G9. Photo wise it doesn't offer much more than the G80 (expect the new sensor and better af) but it is a much better video camera. G7→ G80: IBIS + weather sealing + battery grip G80 → G90: New sensor, unlimited record time, V-Log In Europe every camera with a record time of 30min or higher (e.g. unlimited) is declared as a "video cameras" and therefore has higher taxes. That's also the reason why the G80/G85 have unlimited record time and the G81 (Germany, Switzerland, etc.) is capped at 29min 59sec. The G9 in Europe is also capped at 29min 59, don't know about the US-version.
@@Warbeaver The lens is worth nothing. Got one with my G85 and aren't able to sell it because everybody who wants one already got one as a kit lens. The normal one is F/3.5-5.6. The Leica one is F/2.8-4.0. The normal one cost (Switzerland) 377 CHF = 342 Euros = 384 US-Dollars. As a kit lens with the G95 it costs (Switzerland) 100 CHF = 91 Euros = 102 US-Dollars. As a kit lens with the G9 it costs (Switzerland) 50 CHF = 45 Euros = 51 US-Dollars. The difference between the G95- and the G9-kit is (Switzerland) 300 CHF = 272 Euros = 305 US-Dollars
Its interesting to know what is differences between GX9 & G90 except design ? Both share same sensor, both support Dual OIS,both do cropped 4K video, etc. But GX9 much cheaper than G90.
Hi, owned the Lumix G 9 for 2 weeks now.Happy so far exept its not possible to use flash in any burst mode. Only tried with Rotolight Aeos, but Panasonic Norway confirmes it is not possible with any flash! Tried with both sync cable and Godox x1 trigger. Very dissapointing for me. Is there any way around this?
If you mean SH1 and SH2 modes, it's not possible to use flash, because the camera uses electronic shutter. That's the same with every camera that uses electronic shutter, regardless of the brand. As far as I know. If you use mechanical shutter, the flash will work, but the shooting rate is slower then, of course.
I hope we are talking about the same thing here. I just tried my G9 using the Burst Shot 1 set at H and my Yongnuo 560 III flash was working fine at the rate my camera was shooting. Right now I can't figure out what could be the problem in your case. Try with another flash and see what happens.
Look at Sony A7IV....is there any holding back even though there is a pretty recent (less than 1,5 years instead of 2 years) in the cam? No. They do not hold back and they did not hold bac on the A7III either. X-T3 Fuji? No holding back at all it simply killed the X-H1. Sure the latter had IBIS...and that is it. But G90...is just Panasonic holding back. The worst thing is the crop in video to my mind. But also: no hires 290 shots 9I am sorry) is very poor. ANd 49 AF point as compared to 225 on the G9. I am sorry but this is a stillborn camera. As was the G7 (which was very good but soooo late), GX9 is also a halfbaked product wehn compared to the GX8...Sorry I love Panasonic and have the GH4 (G1 will never leave my house) and the E-M1.2. I dislike the OLy menu's even after 2,5 yrs of use. But...G9 is too big for my liking and G90 is what I said it was...to me. Would have loved to see something amazing but it has been a long time since I saw that in m43s from Panasonic. My GH4 with groundbreaking 4K video....Sad but at least my truth. Actually I have to say I have given up hope that I will ever buy a Panasonic m43 body again. My E-M1.2 btw has both live compostion mode and 80 MP high res mode....
It's the V-Log L that's on every log equipped Panasonic camera below the S1. If you are a serious filmmaker you can always rent the Varicam or other movie camera, if you think some of the consumer models limit your expression.

Wow .. that makes me want to buy this one for a long time use!
High praise indeed. SOLD.
Glad I could help!
I already have a G9 but now that the prices of the G90/95 have dropped I'll buy one for the Live View feature.
Good review. Thanks for posting it.
Thank you.
I got my G9 yesterday evening. Switch from the G90 to this 'older' Panasonic G9 feels more like a firm upgrade to me. Good build quality and more resolution options. 😊
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I also like the G9 a lot, it's still a great camera.
we will have a new update in 19 nov, which will bring 4k 4-2-2 in g9
Both nice cameras though you tip the scale towards G9 but I'm mostly video ... was even more impressed with your skill and craftsmanship - hands-down the cleanest most pro style presentation I have seen on **ANY** product review channel. Awesome and inspiring video creation choices. Thanks for a great watch!
Thank you for your very kind words.
Great job on this video!! I like how you move to different scenes and the clarity of this video is very sharp and clean! I've looked at five big name cameras in the micro 4/3's so far and I believe I will go with the Lumix G9. Thanks for posting this video!
Thanks for those kind words.
Some considerations:
- I primarily record motorcycle camping asmr trips alone (so size/weight is important for packing on moto) in 4k 24p/30p. 60p nice-to-have vs necessity
- I don't intend to color grade much, will probably use Natural or Cine D on either camera, so 10-bit/vlog is a nice-to-have vs necessity
- The 4k crop on the g95/90 is a concern - for wide angle: landscape, astro/night lapse; POV/Vlog; and closed in campsites where I can't compensate with moving the camera farther away.
@@mattisulanto Thanks Matti!
Good video thank you sir !
been looking at G9 videos lately, and even after two years old and compared to some new cameras, the G9 still gets very good reviews.
Panasonic sure knows how to make a good camera.
cheers.
Thanks for watching!
Very helpful review! Also, you have a great voice. I thought I was listening to Littlefinger do a camera comparison!
Thanks😀
I‘m sure its possible to Update live Composite per Firmware to the G9. It was possible too at the OMD E-M1 I per Firmware in the past. Please Panasonic, do it!
Let's see if that happens.
Nice comparison thanks!
I would love to get the live view composite on the G9... Do think is possible that they can add this feature as a firmware update?
Looking forward to see your next video.
Thank you. I think it would be possible to add Live Comp to the G9, but I don't know if Panasonic will do that. I hope they will.
Nice review showing the différenciés between these 2 valuable photo makers. As other followers I hope g9 will get live composition mode shortly.
Thanks, appreciate your comment.
Thanks for sharing.
Great Review.. Still can't decide between G9 and G95. I'm mostly in photo, which one the best ? (If shoot with same 20 mp). Thank you.
I can't decide for you😀 If you want compact, get the G90/95, if you want better ergonomics and more features, get the G9. Same image quality on both.
@@mattisulanto yeah me too 😀 ok I'm happy to hear that they have same image quality 😀 I think I will pick up G95. Thank you for your help 🙏
Thank you for the update on both Camera's and the G9 looks like it could be the one to Replace my Nikon D7500 ..
Thank You
Thanks for watching.
I love my G9, to the point of only rarely using my 5DM3.
I’ve replaced my 5D MK 4 with the lumix G9 the best decision ever
Good job on the comparison Matti.
While they both look good (I prefer the smaller form factor of the G95) I think I will wait another generation to upgrade my G85 and GX85 cameras.
Thanks for your comment, Marko. Let's see how long does it take until we get a brand new sensor in m43😀
Good review thanks! What camera did you use to record this video?
Thanks! I used the GH5s.
awesome video matti
Thanks.
Hi Matti! Where is the tutorial for Light Painting with G90? :) thanks
Thank You for des very transparent Comparation
My pleasure!
I agree with your comments, I also own both cameras you seem to mix your g9 g90/95 models in the commentary that may confuse some
Thanks! Would you like to tell me where I'm confusing and I'll post a pinned comment to correct that.
@@mattisulanto Great review, don't worry about the mix up, I spotted it straight away. Which camera is which is quite obvious imho.
Very useful video, I like both. But if I can only pick one, id go for the best g9.
Good choice!
Can you tell me what camera and lens the video was shot with? What optics do you use to achieve this effect? Just a wide angle lens?
Lumix GH5s + Leica 10-25mm F1.7 + variable ND filter.
I'd take the G9 of these two, but the GH5 is even better, if you are a video shooter.
@@mattisulanto thank you soo much for replying
@@FrankValchiria No problem, my pleasure😀
Awesome I have started my channel
Panasonic G9 is hard to find nowadays. What´s the best equivalent alternative?
I'm not sure if there is any equivalent. The G9 is a really nice combination of photo and video features.
Thanks for you comment. I'm sure there are differences in the AF between these two cameras, but I can't see anything significant in my photography.
Wearing glasses, which one would you choose using the evf? Mainly for still photography.
The G9 has the better EVF of the two, but purely from the glass wearer's point of view I'd say both are equally good.
Great video. I have a GX9 and adventure and travel a bit and I am afraid of breaking it. The G9 looks a lot more robust, like my old F4S.
Thanks for sharing. Based on my experience all Lumix MFT cameras are quite robust, but of course the G9 and GH5 are the best in that regard.
Thank you for your nicely crafted video.
And I was wondering if, as a Lumix Ambassador, there is anyway you ask for us who bought the g95 for a firmware update of some sort .....autofocus is terrible and as someone post on dpreview almost 3 years ago :
It seems that Panasonic has forgotten that they make the G90.
Thank you
You helped make my decision. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Informative and concise thanks for this!!
Thanks, my pleasure.
G9 definitely. I have the GH 5 now. Do you think it would pair up nicely with the G9? Or is it pretty much the same camera? I'm talkin photography.
Thanks for your comment. If you are looking for a more photo centric camera that the GH5, I'd recommend the G9. I think it's better than the GH5 for photos, but can be used as a b camera also for video. But as always, don't rely only on my opinion, check out the camera for yourself if only possible.
Upgraded to the Gh5 ii from G95, then had my GH5 ii stolen, so back to using G95 and when it comes to stills I realise how disconnected from the subject/model you are with the the G95 but as a travel camera it's fantastic and for those one handed shots and video, the ergonomics are fantastic, not sure I will be staying with Lumix for the upgrade.
stolen? oh man im sorry.
Great video. Like your presenting style
Thank you.
what microphone do you use? it sounds great to me!
Thanks. I don't remember any more which microphone I used in this video, I'm really sorry.
Now with the g9ii, would you ‘upgrade’ from the original? The price of the original has dropped, especially used😉
Or maybe an s5 FF?
I can't answer that because I don't even use the original G9 any more.
Out of curiosity, why not? Why did you not like it ? Thanks
An add killer feature is for me the Panorama function on G90 (OOC). G9 does not have that.
Thanks.
Hi !!
I do not see the autofocus Speed settings in the G9 menu !!!
You don't see it, because it's only on the G90.

Thank you!

Thanks a lot!

Thanks

Thanks. The G95 as a camera is an upgrade to the G85, but it's not a significant video upgrade, in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing. In the US there are generally much more special offers or sales than over here in Finland or in EU. I hope you'll like the G95😀
@@mattisulanto I got a very good deal at US $698 with the 12-60mm kit lens, but I'll only keep it if its substantially smaller than the G9. It looks like it in your video, but I won't know for sure until it arrives.
@@patrickfitzgerald2861 That is a good price for sure. It is smaller, but is it small enough for you remains to be seen.

Can i attach a rode videomic to this?
I have used the Video Micro and that works well, at least.
Do you think g90 is good for sport photography?

Do someone know how that 2 card slots work? Is it saving to both cards in one moment?
You can choose how it works. You can make a backup on the second card, you can save RAW on one card and jpeg on the other or you can save stills on one card and movie on the other. You can also fill one card first and then the other.
@@mattisulanto Thanks, that's interesting.

I guess it also depends on where and how you want to teach. Who are your students and why are they coming to you to learn. No easy answer.

G7→ G80: IBIS + weather sealing + battery grip
G80 → G90: New sensor, unlimited record time, V-Log
In Europe every camera with a record time of 30min or higher (e.g. unlimited) is declared as a "video cameras" and therefore has higher taxes. That's also the reason why the G80/G85 have unlimited record time and the G81 (Germany, Switzerland, etc.) is capped at 29min 59sec. The G9 in Europe is also capped at 29min 59, don't know about the US-version.

GX9 is a great camera, i love it. But the viewfinder is the real low point. Carried over from the GX7, not the GX8.
G95 has better specs
@@mattisulanto I cant get it to work in any burst mode, even with mechanical shutter?
I hope we are talking about the same thing here. I just tried my G9 using the Burst Shot 1 set at H and my Yongnuo 560 III flash was working fine at the rate my camera was shooting. Right now I can't figure out what could be the problem in your case. Try with another flash and see what happens.
@@mattisulanto I hope it is working with Godox 685 also, wich I might buy. Thanks for your time!
@@mattisulanto Did you use it in the hot shoe?
you misnamed G9 and G95 so many times I don't know which has what feature from this video.
G95.... Doesn't have 4k60.... And why
4k 60p is slowly becoming mainstream and I believe soon it'll be in every camera.
@@mattisulanto I know what now .... G9 4k60 no log ... G95 4k30 log .... Gh5 4k60 and log ....
@@ZJProductionHK You can have log on the G9.
@@mattisulanto is it a lower grade version of a log or full version of log now? Great thanks
It's the V-Log L that's on every log equipped Panasonic camera below the S1. If you are a serious filmmaker you can always rent the Varicam or other movie camera, if you think some of the consumer models limit your expression.
stop moving
Stop moaning
Live comp mode is not unique to Panasonic, Olympus had it for years
I know that and I never said it's unique to Panasonic.
sulantoblog sorry if I made a mistake but that was the impression I got at 6:04
