Notice g95 or any other g series from lumix have such amazing highlight and shadows control compared to any sony camera - where the highlights are always blown out in the default - I seldom find anyone talking about that point
I think you can change that in settings. Most camera testers don’t get that in-depth when comparing cameras. They really just test straight out of the box, without fine tuning settings to compare somewhat relatable footage. Sony’s are known for low light, sharpness, and autofocus... Pana is known for stabilization, color science, and user friendly menu interface.
The autofocus issue cannot be ignored. In the days when there was always at least two of us on a video shoot there was no question that manual focus was the only way to go, but in the new world of a single operator performing multiple roles at once the autofocus becomes the only viable option. Of everything discussed here it was the standout point that leads to choosing the A6400 despite my intense annoyance at the monitor compared to the Panny. Also I should point out that the e-mount path from A6400 to A7S II or coming III is a serious option. The GH-5 is a sweet camera, but I rely on my A7S II constantly for after dark work. I recommend Zeiss Batis lenses for dealing with the weight issues of full frame glass. Batis are superb lenses for sharpness and accurate autofocus, but it is their ultra-low weight for their size that I love about them most of all.
@artistjoh Would you say it's worth building up an E-mount system starting with the a6400, Sigma 16 f/1.4 and the Sigma 24-70 (for when I get the A7iii or Siii)? I'm trying to step up from an old Canon DSLR, and ideally I want to move to the E mount system, because I'm also a solo operator and Sony's autofocus is still king. Only problem I have with starting on the a6400 is the lack of 10 bit, IBIS, and dual SD slots (which is important if I'm doing paid jobs) On the other hand, the G9 seems to have it's AF improved, but kind of usable for static shots only. Fuji has 10 bit, IBIS, dual SD, but their lenses are so expensive I would much rather pay for E-mount full frame glass.
Professional Potato Fuji cameras are a dead end for serious work because of the lack of lens choices. Beautiful cameras, but when buying into a camera system you need to consider the long term lens issue. For a similar reason I would never recommend Leica as much as I love their glass. Pentax no longer innovates. Nikon is no longer viable because they keep stumbling and could fail as a company. This leaves Canon, Sony, and Panasonic/Olympus as the realistic choices, all of which have huge lens choices. Canon is best for specialty lenses such as tilt/shift but these can be adapted to Sony and MFT. Olympus is a shaky choice, but Panasonic is a solid choice. They put better features into a camera than Sony. However, given AF issues, Sony produces the best over-all package for the average user, and I do like the A6000 series for the smallness, but their full frame cameras have advantages, although price usually determines the actual choices. Personally I would go for the A6600 rather than the A6400, because of battery life, but the A6400 is an excellent choice. For paid work I would always use a gimbal anyway, so I am not sure that IBIS is as big a deal as some people make it out to be. 8bit/10bit might be important if you are producing broadcast material, but for most people it is not the big crucial thing that some RUclips commenters claim. But dual card slots can be an important insurance and peace of mind if shooting weddings etc. As to AF, the Sony advantage is only in video. Panasonic’s DFDF contrast detect is actually excellent for stills. The G9, for example is an excellent stills shooter, and gives advantages like 4K photo, focus stacking, etc that make it an excellent choice. Firmware improvements have also dramatically improved video AF in the G9 and GH cameras. I am currently getting out of Canon and investing more in both Panasonic and Sony. I like them both. E-mount is an excellent choice if you follow that path. The glass is often over-priced, but the quality is generally superb. The 55mm f1.8, for example, makes me happy every time I use it. Sigma helps the budget, but many of the lenses are too heavy. Sigma also has a longer term reputation of not holding their value well over time while native glass from any brand tends to hold value better over time. This only becomes important when upgrading down the track and wanting to trade in your older gear to fund the new. At those times you always do best with native glass. Best of luck with whatever you buy. Sounds like you are thinking about things sensibly.
I still miss the stabilization of Panasonic GH5, yet downgraded to a6400 because of the unusable AFC on GH5. I prefer shaky footage than focus hunting like crazy and out of focus. As we know how to handle camera during shooting to make post stabilize easier, it's not a problem. Record in 4K, post-stabilized and export in 1080p.
I like that you included dinos in the review. The crop is much more noticeable on the G95 however for hand held the stabilization is sooooo much better. Wish I could get both the A6400 AF and g95/95 IBIS plus flippy. Seems like the impossible dream.
Hey Everyday Dad i'm a Panasonic Lumix G85 and like you have mentioned before the auto focus is a real pain , i mostly use it in manual mode but if i really need that pull focus type of shot i switch it into single auto focus because it works better than the continue by far also 😅 sony cameras are wayyyy out of my price rang living in the caribbean is a drag with import taxes but overall great content and keep it up 👏
Great comparison! I would be buying the G95 if it was under $1000 with the kit lens. I am more a stills guy who likes to play with video. I used to be a video pro a while back (can you say burnout?) so I do care a lot about video quality and features. I care even more about fiddliness. For that reason I just bought a used Panasonic FZ2500. I had intended to buy a used g85 but saw this one and boom. I have been really surprised by it in the couple of days I’ve had it. Great video quality and features including 10 bit external recording. Great stabilization for photos and 1080p. You lose some of it in 4K though. Long lens is great. It is really big. Next to my Panasonic LX100 it looks like a giant. I am mostly a micr 4/3s guy so I may go to the G9 or G95 at some point. Or used GH5. What I have now is amazing in the context of just a few years ago. I don’t vlog but both of my (very) young adult children do so I help with that when the need arises. I would absolutely go Sony if they come out with a stabilized A6400. I do like that, for the most part, Panasonic gives you all they’ve got. They don’t hold a lot of features just for their more expensive cameras. I imagine that the 4K crop in the g95 was a marketing decision but I could be wrong. I feel we should stop talking about micr four thirds, or any sensor size, as being cropped in relation to full frame. There are advantages to smaller sensors and for larger sensors. But don’t blow smoke on any sensor because of its size alone. I went away from FF a few years ago to lighten my load. I’m not going back. Do the medium format people talk about “crop” sensors on full frame cameras?
Cool comment dude, I just have a question, for music videos for a beginner, and on a budget I found a 700$ price in a shop for the G90 with a lens, do you think I’m going to be able to shoot 4K videoclips for songs, or will that crop bother me too much?
I'll suffer with the G95's AF a bit, because unlike the xt3, it at least has a flip screen, and unlike the a6400, it has a headphone jack, and its flip screen doesn't get on the way of the hot shoe equipment.
I own both cameras I think they are both awesome in their own way. The Sony A6400 of course are better in low light compared to the Panasonic G95. Thanks so much for this comparison well appreciated.

Great comparison of similar/dissimilar cameras -- in terms of your specific uses. I'm a Lumix fan (have a G85) -- but I'd love to have the Sony AF. What park are some of those shots taken at? That dinosaur is cool!
6:50 after a couple of these side by sides it appears that the G95 saves highlights better. It's that true or is it AE failure on Sony's behalf, or even user error? Because right now I'm seeing more usable SOOC DR from the baby boy sensor here over the Sony. And to me, that plus stabilisation, is big.

I really love the auto focus and depth of field on the sony but i also love the stabilisation on the Panasonic. Are there any sony cameras that have both good autofocus and stabilisation?

Awesome, great comparison, good job comparing those 2 cameras I think that in the end it will come to owner preferences, both cameras are great, and with the time I guess it will be harder to decide, I think this is the best time to start creating content, there are so many options on a budget, by the way thanks a lot EverydayDad I just got my GH5 and I'm really happy, thanks a lot.
Question please? Is it truly recommendable to buy Full Frame lens for Sony Aps-C in case one wants to upgrade his/her camera to Sony Full Frame? in other words, Will full Frame lens work perfectly well on Aps-C Sony cameras? If so which Full Frame Sony Zeiss lens for all purposes you recommend to buy?
I know this question is off topic, but if you were to shop between a Panasonic Lumix G7 camera or the Sony Alpha 6400 which would be your choice. I want to use the camera to record and take photos, but more to record. It would help me a lot if you answered my question, thank you.
so are these 2 not able to do AF or IS respectively? Or are they doing this on purpose to make you buy more expensive cameras if you want both AF and IS?
I’m going to make music video clips for songs, do you think the g95 crop is going to be bad for me since I’m beginning or no crop is a real life changer? I really don’t know what to buy, and there is only a 200$ difference(Sony is the expensive one) what do you think?

Sony...budget wider selection Lenses weather seal viewfinder articulate side rotate lcd...get your act together..reasons canon still first place Nikon second sony third panasonic 4th and fuji dead last..they all need improvements one does better than other.
Nice comparison I like it, I have my decision, the g90 it's 1000x way better than 6400 or other don't have IBIS, just for the image stabilization, Imp image stabilized with bad focus much-better than camera with a good focus and shaking like an ****, I won't buy a 1000€ camera just for using it like a Webcam @ home just for the auto focus 😁😂😂
Note, I already got an a5100 a few months back for nearly the same price, I didn’t know about the overheating issues and the lack of an audio port until I actually got it, but I saw the lumix and was like… wow okay
I really love your un-biased reviews of all the cameras you have on your channel. Nothing worse than hearing a review from a fanboy of a particular company, review a camera from another company.
Did you adjust the colors in this video so that they better match. What color settings did you use on each camera? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Honestly, Sony's native aps-c zooms aren't that bad compared to M43. There are already 10-18, 18-135, 16-70, 18-105 that are priced no higher than M43 equivalents. Plus those Sigma 16-30-56 primes simply cannot be matched in M43 lineup.
The sigma primes can be matched on M43 as they are made for M43 mount also, but with 2X crop of course. And Panasonic and Olympus native primes are excellent, much better than Sony's.
I bought a lumix g85 and couldn’t deal with the autofocus, so swapped it for a canon m50 and almost regret it because of the crappy 4K and stabilisation, and lack of physical buttons. Now debating trading it back for a g85 or the a6400
Had to downvote. Pepsi tastes better than Coke. Good review though. I agree with everything you said.... especially the ending. Just get the G85 and save some money, or get the A6400 if autofocus is a priority. One major thing (not sure if you mentioned it) is that you can't use a flip screen on the A6400 with an external mic. Pretty big deal for vloggers.
@@TheEverydayDad When I say external mic, I mean one connected to the top thingy like a videomicro or a videomic pro. When you get that deadcat on there you can't see jack on the A6400!
Unless G95’s AF drastically improved, I’m thinking of switching to Sony... I’ve used the G85 for a few years, and the autofocus is infamously bad. I’d rather have shaky footage that’s in focus, than stabilized footage that’s out of focus.
The G95 obviously has better video 😅, just because the a6400 has is bigger sensor doesn't mean it's better

so are these 2 not able to do AF or IS respectively? Or are they doing this on purpose to make you buy more expensive cameras if you want both AF and IS?
One of the best
Should mention the rolling shutter of the 6400. It’s pretty significant and bound to disappoint. Should not be a thing in 2019.
Good review
I got a6400 and not having IBIS sucks for traveling
a6400 or XT3? (for videos and photos)
I prefer the A6400 for the ease of use but the XT30 definitely has the better recording capabilities.
The Everyday Dad I said XT3, I don't know if you wanted to say XT30 or XT3 😅. But thank you very much!
Dang I definitely read that as xt30 😳 but either way my answer is the same 👍
Does Panasonic g85 support wireless microphone?
Since you don’t color grade (and I don’t either), what picture profile do you normally use on the a6400? Thanks!
Jason Bascos he uses PP1
“Yay Summer” after being mulled by mosquitos ha ha ha ha ha
Summer and I dont get along 😆
Panasonic cameras have good autofocus in 1080p
I am confuse plz rply... Which one i buy
Sony a6400 or lumix g95 ????
95. I have 6400 and I want to switch
Gravity is a theory tho
Or, you know, get a Zhiyun Weebill Lab as a little upgrade one day and put the 6400 on that bad boy. :P Still a tad too pricey atm, though~
"Pepsi is the better tasting soda"
*Unsubscribes*
Nah just joking
Rio91021 LoL
But how do you get those smaller letters?
I’ve been noticing a lot of that in comments the last few days!
@@RoyalCaymanian What do you mean smaller letters?
Rio91021 Dude, you wrote “Unsubscribes” in smaller letters than the other words!
Nice title and intro. Way to be dishonest. 😀👍. Thanks for the comparison. Have a good day.
Ha! I figured I’d have a little fun with it 🤣
I’m going to make music video clips for songs, do you think the g95 crop is going to be bad for me since I’m beginning or no crop is a real life changer?
I really don’t know what to buy, and there is only a 200$ difference(Sony is the expensive one) what do you think?
Curious if you remember what LUT you used on the 3 seconds of VLOG L footage? Seemed to fix it right up.....
Sorry , If you would choose me one thing What camera will you choose for me? , I use the camera for color grading, shooting vlog, shooting mv. Thnk you I’m from thailand (Answer me please)
Get brand new a7 ii
First like yes ! Ok I liked before have finish watching it ;)
Nice!
Soo... will you be giving away the G85? Pleaseee? I would love to own one. I don't have any cam and would appreciate that. 🙃
Pepsi IS the better tasting soda! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Also RC Cola.
Real sugar coke in the glass bottles hangs in there though.
Lumix menu is much better than Sony's (which sucks totally!!) thanks! Great!
Pepsi is better when there's ice involved
Gmaster Lenses are sharper.
the Panasonic app is dope! does Sony have one?
Check out the vmotal waterproof camera without a case and is only $25 to see it is really what it claims
Sony...budget wider selection Lenses weather seal viewfinder articulate side rotate lcd...get your act together..reasons canon still first place Nikon second sony third panasonic 4th and fuji dead last..they all need improvements one does better than other.
i wanted to be annoyed by the jokes... but instead i subbed. ty good review and comparison :)
There’s a g95 for amazon day for $698 worth it?
I do wish there was a 16-35 and 24-70 2.8 equivalent zoom for the Sony’s APSC line.
The sigma primes can be matched on M43 as they are made for M43 mount also, but with 2X crop of course. And Panasonic and Olympus native primes are excellent, much better than Sony's.
hi best program to make montage vedeo plise
gravity is a theory tho lol
I bought a lumix g85 and couldn’t deal with the autofocus, so swapped it for a canon m50 and almost regret it because of the crappy 4K and stabilisation, and lack of physical buttons. Now debating trading it back for a g85 or the a6400
What did you end up deciding?
or gx80
can't decide which kit lens to buy the a6400 with the 18-135mm kit lens or the 16-50mm kit lens any advice>???
Narrow path if you mostly do vlogs, I’d recommend the 16-50mm as it is super lightweight
thought I would let someone else get First for a change ;)
Very kind of you 😆
i subscribe your channel bro .. good content n good comparison
Is it just me or many shots of the Sony were overexposed?
What you got on my Pepsi, bro?
Had to downvote. Pepsi tastes better than Coke. Good review though. I agree with everything you said.... especially the ending. Just get the G85 and save some money, or get the A6400 if autofocus is a priority. One major thing (not sure if you mentioned it) is that you can't use a flip screen on the A6400 with an external mic. Pretty big deal for vloggers.
Definitely fake news 🤣
Thems fighting words.:)
@@TheEverydayDad When I say external mic, I mean one connected to the top thingy like a videomicro or a videomic pro. When you get that deadcat on there you can't see jack on the A6400!
@@zappuppy6992 That's fine. I can beat up anyone who drinks Coke. I have Pepsi power!
@@raizt1596 Lol we can turn Dad's chat into a screaming match about who's sugar beverage is the best (its TAB BTW :)).
Peace.
Why don't you collab with other RUclipsrs
Unless G95’s AF drastically improved, I’m thinking of switching to Sony... I’ve used the G85 for a few years, and the autofocus is infamously bad. I’d rather have shaky footage that’s in focus, than stabilized footage that’s out of focus.
Does your Panasonic allow you to turn off the auto-focus? Have you found a setting that works best with autofocus?
there is no second thought that I would go with Sony.. pathetic price.. and bad customer care, and always way expensive..
yesterday I buyed in promo the sony a 6400 with Zyun granade m2 gimbal :)
I have the a6400. Even with the gimble its shit
Kid Oman How so? I ask because I own a G95 and am thinking about switching over.
Dennis Mina why you wanna switch?
Lumix g95 vs sony a6400 best hai
100th liker omg
