Every review of the G9 has been in the main positive except for the AF, which, once you know when it's likely to let you down in a particular situation, you act accordingly.
For me, a non-professional G9 is great, and M4/3 is just fine with more for it than against.
    Thanks for the video.

The DFD auto focus is fast and accurate for photography. For vide it hunts and isn’t sticky. It is alright but not the best. I want the PDAF the 9ii has. I’m not prepared to pay $1800 for this feature.
I haven’t outgrown the G9. That is the reason to upgrade. It is good to know in five years I’ll be able to purchase the G9ii for $600. I don’t know if I will have outgrown the G9 even then. The G9 does everything I need it to do except figure out my taxes.

I have a G85 from new, with two kit lens, and now after so many years, wanted to upgrade. Looked at what the price of the G9 II is going for, not an option. So, thinking like you did without seeing your vid, went on eBay a few weeks back, and started looking around. Seen a few without a lens, and I know you get better value if you can find a camera and lens combo. Sure enough, seen an auction for a G9 with the Panny Leica 25mm and ended getting that package for 615 U$, which is a heck of a lot cheaper, than what I could find in Canada. Even though I ended up adding duty and tax, been wanting that Leica 25mm prime for a while. All in all, think I purchased it just fine, as both camera and lens are in excellent mint condition, a 32g card, box, charger with both cords, and an extra battery in that.
I agree on that nonsense about megapixels, as what this camera has is fine for 95% of what I will do. And, not sweat on the remaining 5%. I will always be a micro 4/3 dude, with all the dedicated gear, including TTL flashes. Especially as the lenses are priced right, and many decent choices with both Panny and Olly, and even Sigma Art lenses. Too many get caught up with the latest and greatest tech, heck that will never change, as tech always changes.
But, and yet, this a big but, just go out and shoot, with what you have, and make it work, since, it probably will. Challenge yourself, and learn your equipment ( I know I have to learn this used new tech I have), have fun doing so, and don’t sweat the small stuff. In ending, I might look for a used Olly Pen, for street photography, set it and just shoot, since I have enough micro 4/3 lenses, and now a great 25mm prime.

I agree with the Joystick position is a bit too far to the left. Though the only difficulty with this is when wearing gloves.
The Joystick on the G9 II has been repositioned to the right. The question now is which of the 2 location is best :) Without kidding, I never had any difficulty finding the Joystick while I was watching through the viewfinder. This is mostly where the G9 II has to shine too.
    I will get a G9 II, but I certainly won't retire my G9.

I started out with a Lumix G7 and then upgraded to the Lumix G 85 and now I’ve had the G9 maybe two years. For photos I don’t think there’s any good reason other than phase detect auto focused to upgrade through the G9 mark two. For video there are lots of reasons to upgrade to the G9 MARK two, but I’m going to stick with my G9 for the foreseeable future.

And the main lens I'll be pairing it with is the 12-100 f/4 PRO. So logically I should've picked the E-M1, right? What won me over was the fantastic high resolution EVF, joystick, and top LCD. The E-M1's EVF seemed to be a step backwards compared to my E-M5 Mk III.

I am actually considering getting a G9. I don't shoot video, so don't need those bells/whistles. Also, like that the top plate displays data. Was considering getting a FF body. But, have M4/3 lenses, so that didn't make sense. I'm still on the fence. The G9 is pretty large for a M4/3 body. But, weather sealing, solid body, I'm considering it.

At least, for what I shoot which is normally good light during the day. Literally, my new G9ii arrived today. I think I'll miss the G9 grip. The on-off on the front will be missed too. I’ve never had issues with its AF for how I shoot. I’ve printed fantastic 24x32 pictures at 16 MP so 20 MP isn’t really an issue, it’s pixel peeping at 100/200% that riles people up. Another note on printing big, you don't need a lot of megapixels to print big. The DPI on larger prints are fewer than smaller prints, because at an appropriate viewing distance the resolution is the same. You only really need super high megapixels if you are printing a giant print that's also meant to be looked at from the same distance as a post card. Which isn't something most people do. If you're photographing for a billboard sized print, the viewing distance is all the way down on the road. A post card will be like 300 dpi, and a billboard will be like 3 dpi.

I love the G9, although I'm planning on getting the mk 2 at some point, and the similarly priced(on the used market) Olympus E-M1 mk 2 is great, as well. Yeah. I have a G9 and the stand-out feature for me is the other-worldly stabilisation. I can hand-hold the Moon bazooka PL100-400. No, Olympus cannot do this, their equivalent Lens-IS Pro lenses are so heavy that they need the tripod, which rather defeats the point of Sync-IS.
I live in England, possibly not as moist as Ireland, I have been using cameras since time immoral and have never had a problem with camera kit that was not weather-sealed; neither rain nor snow nor glom of nit. What is an issue is water vapour, which is a gas and goes straight through any "weather-sealing" and condenses out inside. Weather-sealing is not the big plus sale point for me.
The G9M2 has improved focusing. Well yes it does, but I have never had a problem getting the G9 to focus just as I want it to. The G9M2 may make it easier to do but I have yet to see anything the G9M2 can do that the G9 cannot, except read the Lumix AF Guide maybe.

On weather sealing, one of the first places I went when I got my first camera was Jockeys Ridge here in North Carolina, where it was windy from a storm the previous day. The sand was blowing like crazy and ever since that day my focus ring on that lens has had sand in it lol. It still works, but I sometimes forget that lenses aren't supposed to make a crunchy sound when you focus.

Not all MFT lenses are stabilized.
In fact most Olympus ones are not (only the big tele zooms are).
Panasonic puts OIS in all lenses, even small kit-lenses, because most of their entry level cameras don't have IBIS.
Olympus instead puts IBIS in most cameras (in fact no camera released after 2011 came without IBIS) so most of their less expensive lenses don't have OIS.
In theory IBIS-only should give a little bit better results than OIS-only, but how much that translates in practice is debatable. And with higher-end cameras and lenses it wouldn't matter either way as both Olympus and Panasonic would have dual stabilization.

I've had an M1.3 for 3 years and I came from the defective M10.2 and it was still a change. But I don't see a different menu as a problem because on the one hand you get used to it and on the other hand the current cameras offer the possibility to create your own menu. I would consider a change in terms of operability with the existing controls or, as with the G9, the head display. Unfortunately, the G9 is too bulky for me. So everyone has their preferences.

I had an olympus Pen-F and traded it in because i have big hands and ut was uncomfortable to use. I got my G9 about a month ago. It's an amazing bit of kit, but agree with you about the joystick. I think it would've been better if the stick was place where the fn1 button is and visa versa.

I find my em5 uncomfortable for long periods of time too - glad you're enjoying your g9!

By the way the G9 can film MOV 4K 10bit in 24 or 25p so it's really nice for indie filmmaking, feature films or shorts etc ;) + if you buy the V-log L upgrade (highly recommend) then you will get 12 stops of dynamic out of this 600-700 euro camera.... Arri alexa mini LF for example has 14, so you can get real close to the dynamic range of an Arri!

I broke down and bought this camera a few months ago. I got it used for 600€ in mint condition boxed with fewer than 4k clicks. I was going to wait until Black Friday, but then thought that with this deal, I could enjoy it during the summer when the weather is good and not wait until a dark gloomy Belgian winter. I'm enjoying it. It goes out every weekend.

The G9 is probably the best bang for buck out there today. It is a high end professional level body for the price of a low mid range camera. It was in production for a very long time because on release it was very over specked to the competition and retains competiveness still. The move to the dual type autofocus is a significant improvement with G9 2 but it really is only noticeable in certain types of photography that require very fast accurate subject acquisition ie like birdingWhere I live, Canada, they can still be bought new for $1200 Cdn .I would highly recommend purchase of one.👍😀

G9 Mark 2 has a better shutter button. Also part of the ‘ergonomics’.

    I'm glad to see you.
I'm also a microporous lens user
In Korea, there seem to be only a few people who use it
