I'm new to photography and bought one last year and really happy to hear my purchase was ok 👌. I didn't really know if it's a good camera or not

My only gripe is the hair trigger action of the shutter button. I've taken too many pics of my feet over the years. Hope the mk2 is better in this regard. Apart from that, they really are a bargain now.

Just bought one for 650 euros. I saw it 2nd hand and couldn't pass on it

I bought one a few months ago "new/open box" for about 1/3 of the price of the G9II! Could not be happier. When I was getting serious with digital, a pro photographer friend of mine advised me to always buy the previous model. 😎

Yeah, I sold my original G9 when I was swapping a bit of gear around for certain purposes, but somehow always knew I'd buy it back. I did. For what you pay today, just bag one and keep it forever. Truly exceptional camera. Grant, people should listen to you and save themselves a lot of money and time👍

Funny, I'm in the same position. Had, sold it because I had too much gear. Now I'm buying it back (used). I'll grab a G9II when the G9III is released lol.

I'm about to buy a used G9. I'm replacing me two Canon 8oDs as I an traveling to Europe frequently and the sheer weight of 2 bodies and associated lenses is getting brutal.
I'm not interested in video but I do stills in architecture and public sculpture. Thanks for you vid . It has increased my confidence in my decision

Microfourthirds truly helped me move forward. I started 15 years ago with a Pentax K10D. It only lasted a year or so. 4 years ago, I picked up a couple Nikon 1 series cameras and started to remember why I loved capturing moments. I picked up the Olympus EM10 II and really realized how much I needed photography.

Well, i have a FF Panasonic S1R. And, in 2024 I've purchased Panasonic G9. And you know what? When Panasonic G9 is paired with Pro lenses it gives AT LEAST as fine pictures as S1R with mid range lenses! Panasonic G9 really does not leaves ANYTHING lacking!!! With a price of 550$ (used) it cannot be fought with ANY ATHER CAMERA!!!

I find it interesting from the Panasonic side of things. I have 3 Olympus bodies and 7 Olympus lenses, but I have yet to try out any of the Lumix stuff. I am curious to see how the G9II stacks against the OM 1 II for stills.

I own a Lumix G7 (it's my webcam), the G9, and lastly the GH5 mkII. This one I thought would made me forget my G9, but no. G9 continues to be my everyday camera. In fact, i use the GH5 mkII just for high high quality vids or for long recordings.

I freaking LOVE mine!! Just used it on a shoot yesterday and have 2 weddings on the books now and a travel shoot to New Orleans. Such a powerhouse camera.

Ah, so I'm not the only one who's G9 lost it's card slot cover grip rubber
Even though I recently got a Canon R7 (for use with my Canon L primes) if all was lost my replacement kit would start with a replacement G9, and 12-35 and 35-100 lenses

Got one new a couple of yrs after it came out for around 950. Its still one of the best cameras I've ever used. Id love to have the G9ii but its pretty expensive. I got my Fuji XS20 that i really enjoy for 1,100. 1,900 for the G9ii is pretty crazy.

I'm an equestrian content creator, what camera do you think it's best for equine videos abd photos? ( Budget 500-1500€ )

I used to do a lot of equestrian photography myself… The LUMIX G9 is a great option or the gh5 or gh5 mkii - with the 35 to 100mm f2.8 and the 12 to 35mm f2.8 lenses :)

Surprisingly the G7 is still on the Panasonic books as new kit but has little trade-in value and used ones are very cheap. Ideal for talking-head video from a tripod and still takes good photos.
Regarding the new wunderkind PDAF in the G9M2, quoting from Panasonic itself, "The LUMIX G Series is equipped with a contrast AF system and offers higher focusing accuracy than a phase-difference AF system". And yeah it still is. With DFD significantly faster too. The PDAF might tweak recognition and tracking but uses CDAF to finalise focus. I've yet to see anything the G9M2 can do that the G9 cannot. If you have a G9 do you rush out to trade it for a G9M2, I'd say no.

    Great video!!
Would you say that the G9 is good for taking pictures of fast moving subjects, such as dogs 😅 and wildlife photography?

A few things, Grant - I can't tell you how many recordings my dog has ruined! Secondly, do I really need the G9 since I own the GX9 and do street photography primarily? No. Yet I keep hearing from many how the G9 is just so awesome for the price. We'll see if I can snag a bargain. Thanks for the good content!

    • @robertavery8002

I've got both, and the GX9 is my go-to camera because of its small size, flip out screen, and low weight.
Unless I need to use a long FL zoom, the G9 stays in the case indoors! And, IMHO, I think my GX9 is capable of producing slightly higher quality images than my G9. I'm now considering trading in the G9 for a PL 9mm f1.7 prime lens.

LOL - Yes - Dogs, up to this point all I ever used to record were guitars and basses directly in - Now with trying to record vocals/voice it is challenging!!! Yeah the G9 is a great camera at a fantastic price :)

Tell me about it. Had the perfect vocals recorded until heard my lab’s tip tap on the hardwood floors overhead 😂. Ooh that 9mm sounds awesome 😎. Yeah I’m collecting a bunch of lenses for the GX9. Just got the 14 mil back after selling it. I’ll never give up my GX9!
