I’ve been in the video business for about 35 years. Recently made the move from MFT to full frame. I decided I wanted to replace my GH6 with a Panasonic with the new focus system since I have a handful of nice micro 4/3 lenses.. I have two S5ii’s and the micro 4/3 camera is my C camera these days, I decided this camera would be just fine, dodging the extra cost of the GH7. All of that having been said, I have watched a lot of RUclips videos, and I mean way more than a human should watch in a lifetime. This video is as perfect as you can get in my opinion. This guy reeks of credibility and his delivery is impeccable. My attention span has become so short that many times I watch videos on 1.5 speed, absolutely not necessary with this channel. Bravo, happy and excited new subscriber.
Thank you, a pleasure to read your kind words. However, I am wondering, how many youtube videos should a human watch in his lifetime? Also, my apologies of reeking of credibility, obvioiusly should upgrade my soap and shower game.
Thank you Maarten for this review. I unintentionally purchased this body three weeks ago at a store sponsored event. I intended to purchase a three stop ND filter. With the store and LUMIX credits the camera sold for over 40% off. Black bFriday came early. Glad I made this purchase before Trump imposes a tariff on camera gear.I couldn’t resist the purchase price. I bought the camera for less than it is selling for used. I did buy the ND filter in addition to two class II memory cards. I own the G9 and love it. The G9ii has so many video features I will never use as I only do photography. I bought the camera for the PDAF. It doesn’t disappoint. A feature I’m impressed with is the Leica monochrome. I love the L monochrome D. I don’t know which B&W setting I like more. There are so many choices on this camera. My head is spinning. I’ve set it up but don’t know yet if I’ve selected the best settings. More will be revealed. As originalimoc suggests, I’m looking forward to a GX9 update. It seems LUMIX has abandoned small body photographers. I hope for a camera with the G9ii guts in a S9 body. Wouldn’t that be glorious? @@MaartenHeilbron Fabulous as always. That Other menu has been a mystery to me. Thanks for demystifying it. It's dumb. I can't recall if you mentioned Open Gate. One of my favourite features. Second viewing coming up.
My dude! This was lovely, and you are a very interesting fellow. I'd like to keep my cynicism muffled, and just say: this is some beautiful, modern art I hope to see again. Loved this video!
Wow. My head is spinning. I've learned in the past few days that Panasonic has finally been able to add phase detect focus to their Lumix line. I first heard about this camera, the G9II but then heard there is another, the GH7, which is supposed to be more video centered, and would possibly be more similar to my beloved GH5... except for the bloomin' focus thingy. Have you by any chance reviewed the GH7, or do you have plans to? This is the best, most in depth review of any camera I've ever seen. I'd love to see your thoughts on the GH7 compared to the G9II. Thank you
I purchased an older Lumix DC-S5 full frame this month, simply because I had an anamorphic lens in L-Mount. The physical layout and many of the menu options seem to be almost identical. Does the G9 II support the multitude of anamorphic features that the full frame equivalents do? The MFT lens mount certainly provides an abundance of choice in glass, unlike the hated stepchild that is the L-Mount Alliance.
One of my favorite cameras. Especially for wildllife. M43 will always have the issues limited by the sensor size but those arent an issue if you know when and how to use the camer.
Very cool. I happen to be someone that has watched (and enjoyed) several of Paul's videos (about the Amazon LOTR series and other entertainment related videos). I appreciate his humor. Small world...funny to find him and his G9 II here. :-) Anyway, back to watching YOUR video now...
Understood, thanks for adding to the conversation on this topic. IMHO, if properly designed and manufactured, neither should have an advantage in terms of security or longevity.
@MaartenHeilbron "Properly designed" means slide :) I have well built cameras where things just wear. For instance, an EOS R that I have to pry the door open because it won't pop open when unlatched. A sliding door would be nice there. I would like to think Canon did a lot thinking about the design of their camera, even though I have few questions about design choices.
You have such great presentation skills, I would totally believe it if you claimed to have previously worked in the Television and Film industry, possibly a past CBC or TVO presenter.
I have been accused of looking like a TV presenter before - it's probably the glasses! Although I did work at TVO for a while in the previous millenium, my youtube videos are the first time I've appeared on camera - except for when I appeared on Canada AM to tell viewers which free bank calendar was best.
I don't know - you'll always get the best bokeh when you open the iris fully and zoom in all the way. As for lighting, if a scene is too dark, consider adding lighting or a flash.

The best camera reviewer on RUclips. Precise, no fluff, well edited.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Glad you found the video helpful. And that you identified my goals and intentions.

Good to see you Maarten. I was just thinking about you!
Hey, thanks. It's getting harder and harder to borrow cameras to review.
Maarten, you make me happy with every video you release. Thank you for continuing to create!

Thanks Maarten , there are no reviews till you have reviewed

The G9M2 supports anamorphic recording and can display desqueezed on the LCD.
As a happy G9M2 owner, I found this video to be amusing. 😅

Great walk through and review as always Maarten !

I like the close and slide for the doors. More secure and less likely to wear out.

If I may, well built should imply that it doesn't wear out or stop working prematurely. Appearances can be deceiving.
The reviewer I was missing!
Thanks for your kind words. Getting hard to review cameras when there are none to lend to reviewers.

If I use any speed booster, can I achieve better bokeh and a low-light advantage on Micro Four Thirds?
I don't know - you'll always get the best bokeh when you open the iris fully and zoom in all the way. As for lighting, if a scene is too dark, consider adding lighting or a flash.
how is it tyhat the mkii does not have time/date stamp when the original does?
How indeed?
Wow my Dad had, possibly still has, those Epicure/EPI speakers. Haha.
