Another thing for those going in for this method is during the first cooking part, add some buwuwo( small.pices of banana leaves ) on top of your bananas as they cook so you get that flavourful matooke
Wow thanks for this, i didn't know, sha am repeating it, tomorrow
Its the "Dropping things as if you have just landed here" for me🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣 okitegela, you dont do that😁
Thanks my sister, I'm coming soon to motherland, I'm from Kenya 🇰🇪 and from my home we have a lot of matoke, but I wanted to learn Uganda style, and tis just perfect. ❤️ Our African food is very healthy.
Yes, this is not how we do it but ofcos, end justifies the means, same wozap
I'm from Zimbabwe my sister tell me is matooke a banana or its different
Matooke is a banana
Love Uganda best matooke Cook no matter where you go across the world, we are the best in cooking matooke, that's a sample just
True
This video is wonderful! Living in Florida we have lots of green banana, will have to hunt for the fresh banana leaves but I would love to try this recipe! I have a child that I sponsor from Uganda, she told me this is her favorite food.
Awwww this is nice, yes itsbs staple here and many of us live on it, good luck with the banana leaves
Oh and thank you for being kind😍
Bless your good heart
I was just thinking that! I'm in North Florida. There are lots of banana plants, but far more leaves than fruit! Latin markets and farmers' markets often have the green cooking bananas, I think that's what we're talking about here? They don't really become sweet when they are ripe. Anyway, where these grow, you can have as many leaves as you want, so it's interesting to see a use for them.
There is a Hispanic (Nicaraguan I think) food that's vaguely similar, Nacatamales. It's made of corn, wrapped up in banana leaves and boiled or steamed. They're really good! The flavor of the leaves gets into the food a little, and the texture is very nice, and you get to open this messy package and the steam comes out! They are typically one big serving, like a lunch. I thought this is where we were going today, and was a little surprised to see one big dumpling! We don't know anything about Ugandan food here, so this can be a start, since we have the stuff!
I am from Barbados an island in the Caribbean. I stumbled across your channel and here it is you are cooking one of our favourite dishes all be it, in a slightly different way. We don't use the green banana leaves etc in preparing the meal anymore. But I will definitely try it the way you cook it. It looks so appetising!
By the way you are a very very beautiful woman!
Hope you continue put up interesting content and have a successful channel.
Awwww thank you so much❤,I'd love to try out othrr cultures in the future, will make sure to eat your way some day.
Quite impressive, I am going to try this out.
This is so quick and easy, and the matooke looks good.
Its really a life saver
Woooow this method is more simple than what my grandmother and mother tought me , am going for this, home they don't kill me 😔 😂😂😂

Thank you, I sure will
While i know the traditional way of preparing matooke, this particular one does save on time as well as cooking fuel used, especially if one comes back late from work
True

This looks great :)
This is what I do when I don't have time for the typical muwumbo 🤣🤣🤣. I also prefer adding some buwuwo on top before folding the banana leaves.
😉😉😀😀😊🤣🤣you my friend, are going to manage marriage
@@TheCookingNurse 🤣🤣🤣

Hahahaha all the best baby girl, make sure to make this way when he's away otherwise it will be bad news when the inlaws see you.

I'm from Philippines, We will cook this Matoke delicacy from Uganda to our United Nations event in our School.
Wow how did it go buddy?
Wauuu yammy
I know the real method well though ur right about the kunyiiga where some matooke is not pressed, Im gonna be using this method when my mum and in-laws are not watching, thanks
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣yes oh, if they see you, its ove for you Julian
If your inlaws are Baganda.. then you should know, they have a secret of not using a wooden spoon (omuyiko) to mingle matooke.
Its bse some people are dropping their traditions and embracing other people's traditions which make no sense.
Obuwuwo, ebyayyi, ebikolokomba have a strong tradition to Baganda.
Another thing to mingle matooke with your own hands..
Bitter truth!!!!!
Thank you, considering move to join friends in Uganda and Kenya and I know nothing of the food, it is true no one has any time to teach the young ones anymore. I'm going to try this!! Looks amazing
Very humbled for having been able to help, enjoy your stay in east Africa when you visit.
Hi i was in Uganda at 2018, there i ate a chicken stew with walnuts and matooke, please if you can upload the recipe, thanks from Bolivia 🇧🇴
Yes I already have them, in Uganda we don’t serve walnut sauce it must have been ground nuts stew, I already have those videos on my channel, please check the video list
I think you meant peanuts or ground nuts as we call them In Uganda.
More blessings

I cook mine just like this except i dont use banana leaves, i either serve or place the matooke in another saucepan wirh water to steam slowly.... Thank you for sharing this quick way to prep these staple😍... New member here 💞
Welcome home bestie, thank you for being here
When you don't use the stems and banana leaves the taste is not appealing. Not to degrade your cooking.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️❤️
🙏
I wish I knew the variety of banana this is so I can try this recipe. Here in the Caribbean, I'm not aware of cooked banana which yields that beautiful colour.
Oh dear, i dont know how to explain it, all i can say its not green plantain...
I was wondering the same thing @roxanne
@@TheCookingNursematooke are called 'East African Highland bananas '. The alternative variety can be the Hawaian banana since it also becomes tender when cooked
This variety is the East African Highland banana
Well done, though you dd not press matooke, you mingled!
🤣🤣🤣🤣sorry oh but ur wasnt even the intention
Great video! 😀 What is the biggest difference between serving it just after pounding smooth & after cooking it on charcoal for a couple hours? ❤🤍💙Love from the USA to Uganda 🖤💛❤
When you serve direct it’s got no aroma, not smooth on the tongue only a matooke water would tell, but mainly it’s the aroma and consistency. Thank you ❤️ for the support
I loved the recipe and the looks of the mattoke. Thanks for sharing. what kind of bananas can we use to make it outside Uganda?
I haven’t lived outside of Uganda, I’ll be lieing if I know the other types that can pass for this bse even in my country these ones are not replaceable
@@TheCookingNurse Thanks for replying, I will try a few kinds here, in Brazil, and will let you if they work... Otherwise, I will think of going to Uganda to try it there... :)
Mam very good explanation but very complicated I better eat in restaurants
I understand, this is for people that actually can’t take their family to the restaurant daily bse this is a staple

Yes njanum, it’s like our kappa (tapioca)
how would you serve this please? looks yum
With any stew or curry of choice (it’s a carb here so it’s served alongside a protein stew)
Thank you for the lovely Uganda matoke recipe. I would like to know this kind of Matoke which looks like ugali, is it going to be served with curry or what?
