Ren offered to let the kid use his equipment but the kid didn't know how to play guitar, so Ren agreed to sit in and let the kid keep the proceeds. That turned into a longtime friendship. I will say that there's frequent confusion from fans because Ren has (at least) two friends named Sam - Sam Tompkins, the singer, and Samuel Perry-Falvey, the videographer and Ren's frequent co-director/cameraman. Blind eyed, the MC version really showcases their vocal ability and their chemistry together as they play off each other. If you were stranded on an island, this is the only song you would need. If you were on a plane plummeting towards the earth, you would reach, not for this song, no you would reach for the oxygen mask, but this song would play on repeat in your mind. That's how great that song is.

Sam has gotten even better!! He just put out an album, a LOT of heart breaking stuff! He lost his dad last year to suicide, and it broke him. Phones in heaven is beautiful, and makes me sob EVERY TIME. I lost my mom, dad, and best friend in a handful of years, and I FEEL that one. It's all amazing, choose any of them!

There's no separation between him and his guitar. Sam great control, falsetto and runs. Ren has this texture and sound that just hits the soul. He goes into flow state. He let's his voice go wherever in the moment. I've heard him sing several versions of the same songs. He never does it the same way. In his BTS videos, each take has so many variances. He's free and doesn't focus on the technicals first. It's the feel vibe and emotion first, always. ❤

The story of how these two meet is so sweet. They both talk about it in separate videos, Sam at 16 is out trying to busk one day without equipment, and Ren walks past and offers to play guitar and let Sam use his Mic and Amp. This sets Sam on a course to go professional, while Ren is taken sick, but they come back together as Ren gets better and write and perform together again.
I love how Ren and Sam play off each other. They are so good together; but then, I haven't heard anyone that Ren has not been good with.... I love your reactions and you little surprise at the end. I would love to see / hear what you make of, in my opinion, THE most original singer songwriter in the UK, Richard Dawson. The first time I met and heard Richard was at a gig I organised at the Town Mill in Mansfield ( where I reside these days ). Richard was supporting the brilliant Martin Stephenson ( of Martin Stephenson and The Daintees ) This was quite a few years ago now and I have loved watching Richard's popularity soar, especially on the folk music scene .... although he is much more than a folk singer. I have put Richard on a couple of times at local venues and he has stayed over at my flat. He is such a lovely, humorous and ultra creative soul who deserves global recognition, in my opinion. This song " THE FARMER'S DILEMA " was from his first album offering and it is, perhaps, THE most heart wrenching song I have ever heard. I was stunned when he performed it live, as was the whole audience who witnessed this extraordinary artist at The Town Mill. Please do a reaction to the song. I love watching people discover "Old school" Ren! And I have really enjoyed your reactions Nicole Maria! This is how I was lucky enough to first discovered Ren (and Sam)... on a "best buskers" compliation performing "Blind Eyed" on the street sometime in 2019. It's been amazing to follow his journey and see everything he has done since... first with the Big Push, then his solo stuff! Bardcore, Rap or the introspective melodic stuff. It's equally amazing to see people discover it in reverse! If I may tip you off to some of my favourite Ren numbers; "Ready for you" is a great song as is "Humble" with Eden Nash, and I would recommend an upbeat rappy one like "Power" as well! :-) If you're enjoying the soulful stuff there are more videos from this set (including a "Walking on the Moon / No Diggity" mashup), and he's done some great stuff with the Big Push... included "Wade in the Water" and "English in New York".

Sam Tompkins is a friend of Ren's who he met years ago and is several years younger than Ren, but they have a connection like brothers. Sam is a vocal soul performer with the vocal range of a true vocalist, like Ren. Sam is deep and passionate with a background in R&B, hip-hop, and pop. His primary focus is his solo career, of which is absolutely stunning and I highly recommend you get into him when you can. His songs are exceptionally honest, thoughtful, and intense, breeding emotional responses that range from joy to heartbreak to sincere anxiety to passion of the soul. Ren discovered Sam busking on the streets of Brighton and took him under his wings, bringing him up, emphasizing his vocal work and helping him to be a better performer. Ren has a couple of songs with Sam: Blind Eyed (though each version out there is nearly a totally different composition of the original. The official music video is different from the busking version from the MC Sessions version from the live concert version.) What Went Wrong is a trilogy of songs where Sam plays the 'good boy' being brought along a crazy journey by Ren, the 'bad boy'. Their videos are immensely good and I look forward to your thoughts, but particularly on the Blind Eyed versions. There's so much to go through though and I really recommend not skipping anything from Sam. It's a treasure and an honour to experience his incredible gifts. Whats ridiculous about the vocal talents of both Sam & Ren here is .....this is busking. Not a controlled environment, no chance of a re do if anything doesn't vibe, probably only fairly basic equipment..... And yet Magic ✨

Sam's voice is near perfection but Rens voice is captivating.
I love that Ren met Sam just like this - Sam was singing without an instrument and Ren just happened to be walking by. He sat down and played guitar for him, let him keep all the money they earned and the rest is history!

I would love to see / hear what you make of, in my opinion, THE most original singer songwriter in the UK, Richard Dawson. The first time I met and heard Richard was at a gig I organised at the Town Mill in Mansfield ( where I reside these days ). Richard was supporting the brilliant Martin Stephenson ( of Martin Stephenson and The Daintees ) This was quite a few years ago now and I have loved watching Richard's popularity soar, especially on the folk music scene .... although he is much more than a folk singer. I have put Richard on a couple of times at local venues and he has stayed over at my flat. He is such a lovely, humorous and ultra creative soul who deserves global recognition, in my opinion. This song " THE FARMER'S DILEMA " was from his first album offering and it is, perhaps, THE most heart wrenching song I have ever heard. I was stunned when he performed it live, as was the whole audience who witnessed this extraordinary artist at The Town Mill. Please do a reaction to the song. This is how I was lucky enough to first discovered Ren (and Sam)... on a "best buskers" compliation performing "Blind Eyed" on the street sometime in 2019.
It's been amazing to follow his journey and see everything he has done since... first with the Big Push, then his solo stuff! Bardcore, Rap or the introspective melodic stuff. It's equally amazing to see people discover it in reverse!
If I may tip you off to some of my favourite Ren numbers; "Ready for you" is a great song as is "Humble" with Eden Nash, and I would recommend an upbeat rappy one like "Power" as well! :-)
If you're enjoying the soulful stuff there are more videos from this set (including a "Walking on the Moon / No Diggity" mashup), and he's done some great stuff with the Big Push... included "Wade in the Water" and "English in New York".

I'm so glad that you've finally gotten to some busking videos. Sam Tompkins is a friend of Ren's who he met years ago and is several years younger than Ren, but they have a connection like brothers.
Sam is a vocal soul performer with the vocal range of a true vocalist, like Ren. Sam is deep and passionate with a background in R&B, hip-hop, and pop. His primary focus is his solo career, of which is absolutely stunning and I highly recommend you get into him when you can. His songs are exceptionally honest, thoughtful, and intense, breeding emotional responses that range from joy to heartbreak to sincere anxiety to passion of the soul. Ren discovered Sam busking on the streets of Brighton and took him under his wings, bringing him up, emphasizing his vocal work and helping him to be a better performer.
Ren has a couple of songs with Sam: Blind Eyed (though each version out there is nearly a totally different composition of the original. The official music video is different from the busking version from the MC Sessions version from the live concert version.) What Went Wrong is a trilogy of songs where Sam plays the 'good boy' being brought along a crazy journey by Ren, the 'bad boy'. Their videos are immensely good and I look forward to your thoughts, but particularly on the Blind Eyed versions.
There's so much to go through though and I really recommend not skipping anything from Sam. It's a treasure and an honour to experience his incredible gifts.
