Hey Eric, I just wanted to update you on how useful your post was. I had previously asked a mechanic friend of mine how to fix the leak from the AC.He said it was easy to fix and that it was located under the hood by the wiper blades and to locate it and hit it with a power washer. So I removed a plastic housing and found a rubber hose and hit it with the power washer , it turned out to be the wiper blade washer hose. I tried his recommendation first because I couldn’t get under my pickup 🛻. So I lifted the car up by driving one side up the side walk and was able to get under it, located the drain hose like you said and bingo it cleaned up the hose and about a quart of water drained out and is now draining correctly. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it worked exactly like you said. 👍
Wow, this happened to me last year and a guy charged me $200 lol. Turned out that guys business went bad for lying to people and messing with their cars so his cliental would return (scammer move). Problem came back but I now know how simple it is and fortunately I looked up how to fix it myself , thank you Eric 👌🏼
$200 is high no doubt and it should have been less, but also remember you are paying for the knowledge and time it took for them to learn the knowledge HOW to fix an issue. Many places charge a minimum labor rate for just this reason.
Saved my 05 Accord down here in Costa Rica. The dealership mechanic said they needed to pull the dash and replace the unit which they diagnosed as 'cracked'. I even shot my own video to capture the money shot I awaited following the air blast :) Now with the new computer replacing the one that fried from all the water, I'm back and even better baby! Just wanted to send some appreciation. Thanks!
Thanks Eric. This was my problem exactly. I didn't have an air line so i used a tyre pump with an air bed adaptor pushed in to the end of the hose secured with a hose clip. worked a treat.
This was PERFECT! After making an appointment with my dealer, decided I should look on youtube first - and this was exactly as you described. A little burst from my compressor and about 2 cups of water poured out of my CX-9. Thank you!!
Wow. 14 years old this video is. I've been learning from you for a long time! I fixed a friend's a/c that hadn't worked in years, and he loved it. But suddenly "my windows are leaking." Nope. It's the a/c drain line. I get to look like a genius for the second time!
Perfect! Just Perfect! Thanks so much! I had this exact problem and this was the absolute fix. Three shots with the air compressor up the drain hose and, presto! The clog was released and all of the water drained out. You saved me a trip to the mechanic!
Absolutely fantastic!!! You saved me $250 today. I walked out of the dealership where I lease my car because they couldn't guarantee me the repair would be under warranty. Went home, dad and I watched your vid, rummaged in his toolbox, and about 2 pints of water drained from my car. Dunzo, thanks a mill
In year 2020 (9 years later), this video is by far the most useful video I've ever watched. Just helped me fix the problem on my Corolla. Thanks a lot Eric.
@IIGrayfoxII Mostly it's debris from trees and such that get caught on your windshield just under your wipers. This is the fresh air inlet for the HVAC and where the contaminants will come into the system. I usually clean this area when doing a service to help prevent this and make sure that the HVAC can get a good airflow.
Gotta say, I normally DON'T comment on videos, but Eric... THIS WAS PERFECT! It took about 1 min to locate the tube and seconds to blow it out and PRESTO! A TON OF WATER!! THANK YOU!
@lehinostroza I admit they may be hard to find on some cars. If you can't find it from under the car you might want to look from the top, sometimes they are in the center of the firewall sticking out near the transmission. Know that it IS there and keep looking, good luck.
Thank you so much for this! I used a ball pump to shoot air into the tube under the car. Then about 2 cups of water came flowing out. I had to get out of the way quick to avoid getting soaked. You saved me a trip to the dealer where I'm sure they would have charged a lot for this simple fix.
Hey man! I'm from the Philippines and I just went to a shop with a compressed air gun and a lift. Just had this done. I paid 1 USD as tip. Thank you! So much help!
OMG. You have no idea how happy I am that I came across your video. I have had that horrible noise all summer and dreaded taking it to my dealer to have it checked out. I canceled my appt, saw your video and it was like fate. lol. Thank you so much for this information. All I have to do is find the tube on my 2013 Avenger and I know what to do! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
My car recently started doing this and I was wondering why the a/c seemed to shift when I took corners, makes alot of sense now. Thanks for the video, I've watched quite a few of your others, just subscribed.
@ElChobi77 I don't know the exact location but they are normally on the passenger side near the firewall or in the floor in some but mostly look at the firewall for it's location.
@alexgilchrist1 It's possible that is the case but you won't know till you clear the drain and even then if the effected component is damaged just getting rid of the cause may not fix the problem.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I don't think I've had as much help from a car video before! I'm not a car-savvy girl and hate taking it to a mechanic, since I know how easy it is for them to rip me off. You've earned a new sub! This was super easy to do and informative! Thank you so much!
Thank you, Eric, for taking the time and making the effort to make and post this video. Our '06 Honda Pilot has been peeing on us for a couple of weeks now. Carpets are soaked and it is starting to smell like a wet dog. Gonna hit it with some compressed air asap!
@mrjost55 It comes from debris from trees or other stuff that collects on the cowl under your wipers, this is the fresh air inlet to the HVAC system in your car. That combined with the condensation makes a goopy mess inside the evap housing.
Thanks Eric. The symptoms were spot on!! It took longer to find the drain line than to blow it out. The A/C fan went out also but came on again after 30 minutes of draining the line.
Dude you're amazing. Every time I take a turn in my Volvo 240 I get wet feet. I've been having a hell of a time finding any information on it and although I haven't tried this method yet it totally makes sense and I'm guessing it's going to work, the only thing that even sound remotely like the problem I'm having so. Thank you
I'm a long-time fan, Eric, but I just stumbled across this beautiful video and now everything makes sense. My C-RV has been "peeing" on me on long drives during the summer but I almost always thought it was in my head!! Now I not only know I'm not crazy, but how to fix it!!
Thanks Eric.. NOW my daughter understands what I was trying to explain to her.. We will be draining our Venture swimming pool this afternoon and its fill system!!!!!!!!!
Amazing to get valid information from an 11 year old RUclips vid. You just helped me fix my AC. I appreciate you so much Eric. I've learned so much from you.
i have this issue. took the cowl apart thinking it was filling up under that, and it was dry. Still the sloshing sound while turning. Been scratching my head for a couple months now. This is it! Water build up is cancer to a car, so this is pretty important to get fixed. Thank you!
@tH3FtoN3 It's hard to say, I'm not sure if that HVAC system is vacuum controlled, if that is the case you might have a bad actuator inside the dash or a small vacuum leak. Or it could just be the expansion valve that you are hearing as a result of a low charge.
@zztopgearhead1 That does sound like a heater core or perhaps one of the hoses going to it. You can bypass a heater core by routing the 2 hoses together however you won't have any heat as a result but it will get you by in a pinch.
Thanks Eric, my niece had water draining into the passenger compartment of her Suzuki. I enjoy your channel and all of your information, thank you for what you do. Jim
I would normally call my brother when stuff like this happens. He passed away a week ago, and this happened to my car today. I came across your video looking for a solution to my issue without having to go to a shop (Im a broke school teacher). So, thank you for being my substitute brother today. 💔
@HONDAxACURA There have been products created that are meant to eliminate the odor, the best one I used was made by GM however these are but a temporary fix, the only way to get rid of it for good is to remove the evaporator and clean it and the inside of the HVAC.
thank you Eric this was incredibly helpful. I was going to be charged 200 dollars for this 5 minute fix. subscribing and telling my friends. I am very thankful!
If you don’t have an air compressor, a can of air (the stuff used to blast dust out of keyboards) also does the trick in my experience. The cans come with a super thin flexible nozzle which can be helpful if the drain hole is in a tight area. Also, make sure you’re off to the side when you spray or you WILL get wet
Thanks for the video. I haven't used my A/C once this year despite some of the heat we've had in MD because of the leaking that started last year. I'm wondering if that's why I didn't have any water drain out after blasting some air. I went at it with between 40-80 PSI, which I figure is more than enough to loosen up whatever would've been in there. Hopefully the reason there was no drainage is because it all leaked out after the last time I used it. Thanks again.
Eric, I used one of those computer duster cans on the AC tube and worked like a charm, exact thing in the car happened with mine.Thanks. Also haow often does the drain get clogged?
@InferiorThanYou I don't remember half the crap I think I know. To really learn this stuff you need to do it a lot, books just get you started. Thats not going to stop me from writing one however, see Episode 1.
Wow, thanks so much man, I just fixed my girlfriend 's car thanks to you, dealer wanted to charge her 1/2 hour to do just this, the longest part for me was to wait for the compressor tank to fill.... At least a liter of water came out of the drain pipe after a single blow!!!
Thanks mate. You saved me 250$ or more. I couldn't go under the car so I located the drain horse just below the glow box and blowed some air and it is fixed now. Great help.
@97markviii Most cars of this vintage don't have a filter. During a service I've always removed the debris from the cowl as a preventive measure for just that reason.
I noticed the sloshing sound two weeks ago after heavy rains. I thought rain had gotten inside of my 2015 Chrysler 300. Each time I turned or braked it sounded like a gallon of water was inside the car somewhere. I don’t think I can blow the line so I hope Chrysler won’t charge me for taking it in tomorrow. I’m driving over 2k miles and don’t need any problems. Thank you for the info. It was very helpful.
E.T.C.G. once again you got skills, thanks bro, Im having a problem with my 97 vtec accord it will stutter after the car warms up, usually after i stop at a light, it will also do it if on a drive down the interstate, it will only do it once per start up, then I don't have to worry about it until next start up, The stutter is I can only describe it as a hesitation like it's not getting enough gas or air. Any thoughts Eric?
Eric, great job on the video! I have an '05 Grand Am GT with a suspected ac drain clog. Would a clog cause water to get under the carpet on the passenger side? Thanks in advance!
awesome this worked perfectly ! my wifes 2018 kia sportage had the sound of water in the dash. This saved me money as she wanted to take it to the dealership to be "fixed".
@ElChobi77 I'm certain it's there it's just a matter of finding it, sometimes they mount them under the car or high up on the firewall you just have to find it. Good luck.
Thanks for sharing, I was just about to remove the hose off the to of my 07 Ridgeline and do that. After seeing your video I’m going to try your method, it looks so much easier. Thanks again
Great Video. I have a 2009 LR2 Land Rover, and yes I have the passenger floor mat all wet. I've located the drain under mat by the front but could not find it under it. By any change you would know where is located that drain under the car? Again great video
Thanks. Will try this after the rain stops! The gunk will probably still be up there, but this is a good suggestion to clear the drain. Alternative is to remove the whole blower assembly and break the refrigerant line seals.
@ncrdisabled Happens all the time, they can make quite a mess up in there but this method may not help if it's too bad, you may have to pull the evap out to fix it.
Thanks. You saved me about 100 bucks. Would have been more but I bought a pair of car ramps to get at it. Pumped in a bit of air from the manual pump I use for my daughter' s kiddie pool. About three or so cups of water came out. Took all of ten mintues. And to think two places I called were starting at 100 bucks just to tell me what I already knew. Anywah, thanks again.
My Tiburon is doing this. I was freaked out when I heard a water fall inside my car. Now that I know its that simple im gonna handle this myself. Thanks Bro!
Aloha Eric, do you happen to know where the ac drain is in a 2004 VW Touareg? Same problem with a soaking wet drivers side and sloshing water. Seems to be coming from up inside the dash near the center. By the way, fantastic channel. Mahalo
Hi Eric I'm new to this but I have learned a lot from your videos, so far I have done the Throttle body clean and it works like a charm now, but I run into this problem with the AC drain, Do you know where the drain is on a Mazda Protege 1997 LX, I have looked but don't seem to find it, maybe it is one of those DUH! moments, jeje thanks in advance for your help !
Hi Eric great show love your videos!!.I own a land rover freelander 1 ( I think it is a 2000 model) and the ac makes a strange noise from underneath the front passenger side. Could there be a leak?
@madsam64 Have you tried cleaning the AC drain? it's quite possible that's what the issue is. Sorry to hear about the tornado, thought there was going to be one here the other night, glad there wasn't.
Interesting video. What if there’s no water in the dash or on the carpet/floor? But I can smell a musty odor inside the car after it’s been sitting especially on a hot and humid day?
Eric, I have an 08 Accord, and am having this problem, could you explain exactly where I should be looking for this drain? thanks a lot man i appreciate it!
I have the same problem, guessed the cause but you confirmed my suspects. Now I need to find the drain pipe in my Toyota Corolla. Thanks for this video Eric.
That's the situation of my car now, from the driver side was soaking wet up to the firewall. I wish it's just the A/C drain only. Thanks for this video, it really helps me a lot.
Hey Eric i have watched all your videos, thanks for posting all of your informative videos. I have a question, my friends 2007 lexus is 250 has a big problem. The carpet keeps on getting wet, there are two black plastic vents under the driver and passenger seats and im almost positive thats where the water is coming from because i dried carpet and later in the day the towel was wet, also the draining ac tubing does not leak any water at all underneath the car, i only see a few drops of water.
Great video! I have this exact problem but I think that it might be a dead mouse clogging the drain. Is this possible? If so is there a way for a professional to remove it. I have a horrible smell and it is making me hate my car :(
@M1dyGamer Well I see your point and thank you for the comment but I "subscribe" to the philosophy that ETCG would not exist if no one took the time to watch and in some cases hit the little yellow button. Is it OK if I thank you for the comment?
Thanks for the tips, I did this on my Chevy trailblazer only I used a zip tie strap to unclog and the water poured out but the next night my whole floor board on the passenger side was soaking wet again. Is there anything else I could do or maybe I didn’t clean it out right? Please help if you can
Hey Eric, I just wanted to update you on how useful your post was. Where did you attach the air line to blow it out? The drain pipe in the engine bay firewall, or inside the cabin?
From underneath the truck.
Did the clog make your AC not run good at all and did your AC work better after you cleared the line?
@@hardcore4476 YES! as the water builds up the evaporator coil loses efficiency and will eventually stop working.
@lehinostroza I admit they may be hard to find on some cars. If you can't find it from under the car you might want to look from the top, sometimes they are in the center of the firewall sticking out near the transmission. Know that it IS there and keep looking, good luck.

Thanks a bunch. I didn't have access to a compesor so I used a can of Dust Off and it did the trick. You saved me a trip to shop thanks again.
Thank bcuz I was wondering how you could do this at home.
Did it make your cars AC run colder and better or just got the drain to work and water out?
@ElChobi77 I don't know the exact location but they are normally on the passenger side near the firewall or in the floor in some but mostly look at the firewall for it's location.
@alexgilchrist1 It's possible that is the case but you won't know till you clear the drain and even then if the effected component is damaged just getting rid of the cause may not fix the problem.

A thousand times THANK YOU!! Worked like a charm on my 2007 Accord. Quick and easy once we found the drain.
Thank you, Eric, for taking the time and making the effort to make and post this video. Our '06 Honda Pilot has been peeing on us for a couple of weeks now. Carpets are soaked and it is starting to smell like a wet dog. Gonna hit it with some compressed air asap!
Robert Bentley hi did it work ?
@mozillagenesis I love to hear when I actually help someone, thanks for the comment.
Hey Eric thanks a lot for these videos. Where I can find the AC drain hole for a Ford Taurus 2005 SE? Thanks a lot.
@mrjost55 It comes from debris from trees or other stuff that collects on the cowl under your wipers, this is the fresh air inlet to the HVAC system in your car. That combined with the condensation makes a goopy mess inside the evap housing.
You're a great honest mechanic.
Headed out the door going to find the hose and get this done. thank you for your help. God Bless
Thanks Eric. The symptoms were spot on!! It took longer to find the drain line than to blow it out. The A/C fan went out also but came on again after 30 minutes of draining the line.

Jim
Jim I am having that same issue right now. Where did you find the drain? Was it closer to the passenger side or the middle?
I would normally call my brother when stuff like this happens. He passed away a week ago, and this happened to my car today. I came across your video looking for a solution to my issue without having to go to a shop (Im a broke school teacher). So, thank you for being my substitute brother today. 💔
Sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss and your last sentence is awesome.

Thank you!!!! I've had this problem for a while dont know why I didn't think to check your channel out to find out why it was doing that
@Znitso It seems to work every time for me. Thanks for your comment.

@JODY254 Your welcome, thanks for the comment.
Have you tried using a vacuum to draw out the clog versus blowing it back in?
Eric, I used one of those computer duster cans on the AC tube and worked like a charm, exact thing in the car happened with mine.Thanks. Also haow often does the drain get clogged?
@malecco1 Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.

@MG03x I recommend finding the drain tube and performing the procedure in this video. Good luck.
Once again thank you eric the car guy.
and don't forget to check/replace the cabin air filter as well, for smell control.
@NissanAltima2005 I'm trying to figure out if this is a question or a comment on the video.

Nice video!
Is this a more common problem on some brands/models?
What are the alternativ reasons for this problem?
@simtech30 Your welcome, thanks for the comment.
Thanks. Will try this after the rain stops! The gunk will probably still be up there, but this is a good suggestion to clear the drain. Alternative is to remove the whole blower assembly and break the refrigerant line seals.
Where is the drain for 2004 Buick Rendezvous when is coming inside I can't find the drain line to blow it out?
@ncrdisabled Happens all the time, they can make quite a mess up in there but this method may not help if it's too bad, you may have to pull the evap out to fix it.
Thanks. You saved me about 100 bucks. Would have been more but I bought a pair of car ramps to get at it. Pumped in a bit of air from the manual pump I use for my daughter' s kiddie pool. About three or so cups of water came out. Took all of ten mintues. And to think two places I called were starting at 100 bucks just to tell me what I already knew. Anywah, thanks again.
That's a good fucking idea. I was wondering how I would do it without an air compressor, I'll use my air mattress motor
@MurphManPB Thanks for the comment Travis.
@nobleheight Enough for weekend air tool use but not for paint, grinders or sanders.
Eric, wouldn't it be better to vacuum it out instead to prevent it from happening again too soon?
Even though EricTheCarGuy has taken time off RUclips, his videos are very helpful.
Indeed you helped a lot remove the lake in my AE92. Appreciate it. Stay dirty!
Mahalo
Great video. Thanks for posting. If I can't get a compressor to blow out the tube, could I use a wire to free up the clog or will that cause damage?
@Bushougoma Yes you are correct it is but a temporary repair. You might try parking away from that tree though.
How could you fix it permanently? I just did this yesterday to my car and it worked but now it’s clogged again today. What should I do?
It took me longer to gather the tools than to do the actual work. Great Vid!
This is a great video.....if you have one of those cool air guns
If not what should you use Eric?
Hi Eric great show love your videos!!.I own a land rover freelander 1 ( I think it is a 2000 model) and the ac makes a strange noise from underneath the front passenger side. Could there be a leak?
@madsam64 Have you tried cleaning the AC drain? it's quite possible that's what the issue is. Sorry to hear about the tornado, thought there was going to be one here the other night, glad there wasn't.
thanks eric... u explain things soo well. i ws facing this problem n i fixed it myself
Thanks Eric! My drain is now clear!!!
