Wow, this happened to me last year and a guy charged me $200 lol. Turned out that guys business went bad for lying to people and messing with their cars so his cliental would return (scammer move). Problem came back but I now know how simple it is and fortunately I looked up how to fix it myself , thank you Eric 👌🏼
Hey Eric, I just wanted to update you on how useful your post was. I had previously asked a mechanic friend of mine how to fix the leak from the AC.He said it was easy to fix and that it was located under the hood by the wiper blades and to locate it and hit it with a power washer. So I removed a plastic housing and found a rubber hose and hit it with the power washer , it turned out to be the wiper blade washer hose. I tried his recommendation first because I couldn’t get under my pickup 🛻. So I lifted the car up by driving one side up the side walk and was able to get under it, located the drain hose like you said and bingo it cleaned up the hose and about a quart of water drained out and is now draining correctly. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it worked exactly like you said. 👍
Eric! Thanks a million. Water started dripping and filling the passenger floor mat. I was getting ready to take it to the shop, then checked your video. Found the drain easily and butted a similar size tube, then blew using my mouth. Water came pouring out. Fixed. You saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks!!!!!!!!
Risky method.
@mozillagenesis I love to hear when I actually help someone, thanks for the comment.
Hey Eric thanks a lot for these videos. Where I can find the AC drain hole for a Ford Taurus 2005 SE? Thanks a lot.
Thanks Eric. This was my problem exactly. I didn't have an air line so i used a tyre pump with an air bed adaptor pushed in to the end of the hose secured with a hose clip. worked a treat.
This is what I like, a video with a true explanation and how to fix it. 5 stars Eric
@abnpgreen Sweet, I love it when viewers benefit from my videos, thanks for the comment.
Saved my 05 Accord down here in Costa Rica. The dealership mechanic said they needed to pull the dash and replace the unit which they diagnosed as 'cracked'. I even shot my own video to capture the money shot I awaited following the air blast :) Now with the new computer replacing the one that fried from all the water, I'm back and even better baby! Just wanted to send some appreciation. Thanks!
This was PERFECT! After making an appointment with my dealer, decided I should look on youtube first - and this was exactly as you described. A little burst from my compressor and about 2 cups of water poured out of my CX-9. Thank you!!
I would normally call my brother when stuff like this happens. He passed away a week ago, and this happened to my car today. I came across your video looking for a solution to my issue without having to go to a shop (Im a broke school teacher). So, thank you for being my substitute brother today. 💔
Gotta say, I normally DON'T comment on videos, but Eric... THIS WAS PERFECT! It took about 1 min to locate the tube and seconds to blow it out and PRESTO! A TON OF WATER!! THANK YOU!
Where did you attach the air line to blow it out? The drain pipe in the engine bay firewall, or inside the cabin?
From underneath the truck.
Did the clog make your AC not run good at all and did your AC work better after you cleared the line?
@@hardcore4476 YES! as the water builds up the evaporator coil loses efficiency and will eventually stop working.
In year 2020 (9 years later), this video is by far the most useful video I've ever watched. Just helped me fix the problem on my Corolla. Thanks a lot Eric.
Bro, it’s August 2020 and I’m searching for this video. 👍🏼 some good stuff
@lehinostroza I admit they may be hard to find on some cars. If you can't find it from under the car you might want to look from the top, sometimes they are in the center of the firewall sticking out near the transmission. Know that it IS there and keep looking, good luck.
@IIGrayfoxII Mostly it's debris from trees and such that get caught on your windshield just under your wipers. This is the fresh air inlet for the HVAC and where the contaminants will come into the system. I usually clean this area when doing a service to help prevent this and make sure that the HVAC can get a good airflow.
Perfect! Just Perfect! Thanks so much! I had this exact problem and this was the absolute fix. Three shots with the air compressor up the drain hose and, presto! The clog was released and all of the water drained out. You saved me a trip to the mechanic!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I don't think I've had as much help from a car video before! I'm not a car-savvy girl and hate taking it to a mechanic, since I know how easy it is for them to rip me off. You've earned a new sub! This was super easy to do and informative! Thank you so much!
Absolutely fantastic!!! You saved me $250 today. I walked out of the dealership where I lease my car because they couldn't guarantee me the repair would be under warranty. Went home, dad and I watched your vid, rummaged in his toolbox, and about 2 pints of water drained from my car. Dunzo, thanks a mill
Thank you, Eric, for taking the time and making the effort to make and post this video. Our '06 Honda Pilot has been peeing on us for a couple of weeks now. Carpets are soaked and it is starting to smell like a wet dog. Gonna hit it with some compressed air asap!
Robert Bentley hi did it work ?
@alexgilchrist1 It's possible that is the case but you won't know till you clear the drain and even then if the effected component is damaged just getting rid of the cause may not fix the problem.
OMG. You have no idea how happy I am that I came across your video. I have had that horrible noise all summer and dreaded taking it to my dealer to have it checked out. I canceled my appt, saw your video and it was like fate. lol. Thank you so much for this information. All I have to do is find the tube on my 2013 Avenger and I know what to do! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
@mrjost55 It comes from debris from trees or other stuff that collects on the cowl under your wipers, this is the fresh air inlet to the HVAC system in your car. That combined with the condensation makes a goopy mess inside the evap housing.
Hey man! I'm from the Philippines and I just went to a shop with a compressed air gun and a lift. Just had this done. I paid 1 USD as tip. Thank you! So much help!
@ElChobi77 Glad you found it and that it's working now, thanks for the update and the referrals.
Thanks a bunch. I didn't have access to a compesor so I used a can of Dust Off and it did the trick. You saved me a trip to shop thanks again.
Thank bcuz I was wondering how you could do this at home.
Did it make your cars AC run colder and better or just got the drain to work and water out?
Thank you so much for this! I used a ball pump to shoot air into the tube under the car. Then about 2 cups of water came flowing out. I had to get out of the way quick to avoid getting soaked. You saved me a trip to the dealer where I'm sure they would have charged a lot for this simple fix.
Amazing to get valid information from an 11 year old RUclips vid. You just helped me fix my AC. I appreciate you so much Eric. I've learned so much from you.
@ElChobi77 I don't know the exact location but they are normally on the passenger side near the firewall or in the floor in some but mostly look at the firewall for it's location.
My car recently started doing this and I was wondering why the a/c seemed to shift when I took corners, makes alot of sense now. Thanks for the video, I've watched quite a few of your others, just subscribed.
I'm a long-time fan, Eric, but I just stumbled across this beautiful video and now everything makes sense. My C-RV has been "peeing" on me on long drives during the summer but I almost always thought it was in my head!! Now I not only know I'm not crazy, but how to fix it!!
@zztopgearhead1 That does sound like a heater core or perhaps one of the hoses going to it. You can bypass a heater core by routing the 2 hoses together however you won't have any heat as a result but it will get you by in a pinch.
@mrjost55 Absolutely, that's one of the reasons you started seeing them.
A thousand times THANK YOU!! Worked like a charm on my 2007 Accord. Quick and easy once we found the drain.
Headed out the door going to find the hose and get this done. thank you for your help. God Bless
Dude you're amazing. Every time I take a turn in my Volvo 240 I get wet feet. I've been having a hell of a time finding any information on it and although I haven't tried this method yet it totally makes sense and I'm guessing it's going to work, the only thing that even sound remotely like the problem I'm having so. Thank you
You're a great honest mechanic.
and don't forget to check/replace the cabin air filter as well, for smell control.
Thanks Eric, my niece had water draining into the passenger compartment of her Suzuki. I enjoy your channel and all of your information, thank you for what you do.
Jim
Jim I am having that same issue right now. Where did you find the drain? Was it closer to the passenger side or the middle?
If you don’t have an air compressor, a can of air (the stuff used to blast dust out of keyboards) also does the trick in my experience. The cans come with a super thin flexible nozzle which can be helpful if the drain hole is in a tight area.
Also, make sure you’re off to the side when you spray or you WILL get wet
@tH3FtoN3 It's hard to say, I'm not sure if that HVAC system is vacuum controlled, if that is the case you might have a bad actuator inside the dash or a small vacuum leak. Or it could just be the expansion valve that you are hearing as a result of a low charge.
Thanks Eric. The symptoms were spot on!! It took longer to find the drain line than to blow it out. The A/C fan went out also but came on again after 30 minutes of draining the line.
i have this issue. took the cowl apart thinking it was filling up under that, and it was dry. Still the sloshing sound while turning. Been scratching my head for a couple months now. This is it! Water build up is cancer to a car, so this is pretty important to get fixed. Thank you!
@HONDAxACURA There have been products created that are meant to eliminate the odor, the best one I used was made by GM however these are but a temporary fix, the only way to get rid of it for good is to remove the evaporator and clean it and the inside of the HVAC.
@ncrdisabled Happens all the time, they can make quite a mess up in there but this method may not help if it's too bad, you may have to pull the evap out to fix it.
@Znitso It seems to work every time for me. Thanks for your comment.
EricTheCarGuy cuurr u
@MG03x I recommend finding the drain tube and performing the procedure in this video. Good luck.
@JODY254 Your welcome, thanks for the comment.
@ElChobi77 I'm certain it's there it's just a matter of finding it, sometimes they mount them under the car or high up on the firewall you just have to find it. Good luck.
@InferiorThanYou I don't remember half the crap I think I know. To really learn this stuff you need to do it a lot, books just get you started. Thats not going to stop me from writing one however, see Episode 1.
@madsam64 Have you tried cleaning the AC drain? it's quite possible that's what the issue is. Sorry to hear about the tornado, thought there was going to be one here the other night, glad there wasn't.
@nobleheight Enough for weekend air tool use but not for paint, grinders or sanders.
@simtech30 Your welcome, thanks for the comment.
@malecco1 Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
@tdogg4575 I've had people in the comments to this video say they used a can of spray air and it worked.
@NissanAltima2005 I'm trying to figure out if this is a question or a comment on the video.
lol , IT PEED ON ME ... over here in Australia , its the passenger that gets peed on ! hahaha!
thank you Eric this was incredibly helpful. I was going to be charged 200 dollars for this 5 minute fix. subscribing and telling my friends. I am very thankful!
I could not find why this was happening. This worked! Add a keyword for interior water leakage...good stuff man!
Thank you!!!! I've had this problem for a while dont know why I didn't think to check your channel out to find out why it was doing that
@tmz90 Given the evidence perhaps you should try the method shown in this video to see if that will cure it.
Thanks! This fixed the problem! Your video made it easy to find. Much appreciated!
Where is the drain for 2004 Buick Rendezvous when is coming inside I can't find the drain line to blow it out?
Erci, fortunately I saw your clip before taking off an disassembling the entire dash.... :-)
Thank you for posting this !!!
Damn the bad luck. But hope you got it fixed.
@cesarin76 Possibly but it could also be a leak if the case is not sealed correctly you'll have to get up under the dash and have a look to know for sure.
Once again thank you eric the car guy.
@cargam1 Not exactly but check the bulkhead on the passenger side.
@97markviii Most cars of this vintage don't have a filter. During a service I've always removed the debris from the cowl as a preventive measure for just that reason.
Thanks Eric.. NOW my daughter understands what I was trying to explain to her.. We will be draining our Venture swimming pool this afternoon and its fill system!!!!!!!!!
@adrianalanis20000 Glad you liked it, thanks.
@mixwell1983 Thanks for the comment.
I noticed the sloshing sound two weeks ago after heavy rains. I thought rain had gotten inside of my 2015 Chrysler 300. Each time I turned or braked it sounded like a gallon of water was inside the car somewhere. I don’t think I can blow the line so I hope Chrysler won’t charge me for taking it in tomorrow. I’m driving over 2k miles and don’t need any problems. Thank you for the info. It was very helpful.
@Michiganborn1969 Thanks for watching. I worked too BTW, no worries it was short and t-shirt day. No rest for the wicked I suppose.
@KNTRIDER Naw keep doing it cause I've gotten a couple of free extensions because of that.
Great tip. Worked like a charm. Biggest trick was finding the drain outlet under the car. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing, I was just about to remove the hose off the to of my 07 Ridgeline and do that. After seeing your video I’m going to try your method, it looks so much easier. Thanks again
@Bushougoma Yes you are correct it is but a temporary repair. You might try parking away from that tree though.
How could you fix it permanently? I just did this yesterday to my car and it worked but now it’s clogged again today. What should I do?
That's the situation of my car now, from the driver side was soaking wet up to the firewall. I wish it's just the A/C drain only.
Thanks for this video, it really helps me a lot.
Eric, wouldn't it be better to vacuum it out instead to prevent it from happening again too soon?
@MurphManPB Thanks for the comment Travis.
HI Eric, I used air duster and it works!
@M1dyGamer Well I see your point and thank you for the comment but I "subscribe" to the philosophy that ETCG would not exist if no one took the time to watch and in some cases hit the little yellow button. Is it OK if I thank you for the comment?
Thanks for the video. I haven't used my A/C once this year despite some of the heat we've had in MD because of the leaking that started last year. I'm wondering if that's why I didn't have any water drain out after blasting some air. I went at it with between 40-80 PSI, which I figure is more than enough to loosen up whatever would've been in there. Hopefully the reason there was no drainage is because it all leaked out after the last time I used it. Thanks again.
Thanks. Will try this after the rain stops! The gunk will probably still be up there, but this is a good suggestion to clear the drain. Alternative is to remove the whole blower assembly and break the refrigerant line seals.
Thanks. You saved me about 100 bucks. Would have been more but I bought a pair of car ramps to get at it. Pumped in a bit of air from the manual pump I use for my daughter' s kiddie pool. About three or so cups of water came out. Took all of ten mintues. And to think two places I called were starting at 100 bucks just to tell me what I already knew. Anywah, thanks again.
That's a good fucking idea. I was wondering how I would do it without an air compressor, I'll use my air mattress motor
Have you tried using a vacuum to draw out the clog versus blowing it back in?
@djtiesto69 I'm working on making AC videos for future shows.
thanks eric... u explain things soo well. i ws facing this problem n i fixed it myself
@nobleheight I've never seen that one so it would be kind of hard to make a video of it. I have seen plenty of valve cover gaskets leak and cause what you describe however. Perhaps you should make a video of it.
Indeed you helped a lot remove the lake in my AE92. Appreciate it. Stay dirty!
This is such a great and useful video! I recently had this problem but I did not have an air pump. My dad helped me fix it with a leaf blower 😅 it worked though, for anyone wondering if there was an alternative to an air pump!
Thanks mate. You saved me 250$ or more. I couldn't go under the car so I located the drain horse just below the glow box and blowed some air and it is fixed now. Great help.
hey this is subin from India, your video really saved my 60$ for A/c repair. thanks a lot man....
It took me longer to gather the tools than to do the actual work. Great Vid!
Dude thanks!! Past 2 days I've seen steam coming from my vents and hearing that's sound. I saw ur vid and bought a can of condensed air for my 2005 Sierra. Shot it in the hose real quick and a gallon of water came out. Thanks for the vid bro was wicked helpful
Even though EricTheCarGuy has taken time off RUclips, his videos are very helpful.
Thanks Eric!!! This fixed my issue with the dripping water and swishing water issue! I didn't have a air gun but I managed to use a ShopVac on blow and it did the job!
Hi Eric,
I was worried about the a/c water leakage in my car cabin. I saw your video and solved the problem in my car. Thanks a ton!!! :)
ETCG: Always great videos-very helpful to us trying to save a few bucks. 01 Silverado, water on passenger carpet. Can hear sloshing around behind dash. Used coat hanger on AC drain; nothing came out, hanger was 100% dry entire time. Compressed air did nothing either. Advice on next step? drains for reservoir (where wiper motor sits) at base of windshield clogged? heater core clogged? i get occassional low coolant warning (maybe once every 2 months) and only need to add a few ounces. Your ideas are greatly appreciated.
That Was Awesome! You need to add an option to your help videos that allows us to donate a buck or two. I did exactly what you said to do and got the exact results, only I used a piece of weed eater line.
You are one cool dude. Thanks from Queens NY.
Wow, thanks so much man, I just fixed my girlfriend 's car thanks to you, dealer wanted to charge her 1/2 hour to do just this, the longest part for me was to wait for the compressor tank to fill.... At least a liter of water came out of the drain pipe after a single blow!!!
