Yes, if your cabin air filter is full of debris, replace it then, spray the lysol or disinfectant into the outside "air intake" while
set to AC and fan is on full blast, and settings are set to allow "outside air" in the cabin but NOT set to recirculate. Spray
ample amount of disinfectant into the intake cowl located outside, below the windshield. This should kill mold and mildew
in the entire AC unit and ductwork. The AC will cool better and faster, smell better, and mold and mildew is eliminated.

This method will refresh the vents and cabin but so not solve the problem. The AC evaporator and lines must be cleaned out. The correct way is using a proper cleaner with an attached cleaning tube that is inserted through the AC drain line. The cleaner is sprayed upthrough the drain line back to the evaporator. The cleaner will break up and dissolve the moldy deposits and release them through the AC drain once the cleaning tube is removed.

    • @mikehuang1369

Air conditioning is a closed system. Mold doesn't get into the AC lines where the refrigerant is. Mold can get into the heat exchange coils where the cold refrigerant passes through to cool metal fins. But when you blow lysol through the vents, the lysol would get circulated through those metal fins.

For easy access to the blower motor fan like yours , Use a professional hvac (a/c) condenser coil self rinsing foam spray after the lysol shot , Try to find one that comes with a small hose attachment for better coverage spraying , For those of you that can't get to the fan/ evaporator/ heater core easily you can locate your condensation drip line normally on the fire wall under the hood , Turn your a/c on low and look for the wet spot under the car to get an idea of the location, Put your windows down , stick the foam spray hose as far as possible & use the entire can , Now your bacteria/ mold is gone and the evaporator plus Heater core is clean with a more efficient working system for atleast a year, You can find the coil cleaning foam spray in H.D or Lowes or possibly a hardware store . Be safe

I have improved the presented methodogy of using this product by adding a long hose and spraying it under pressure directly into a/c coil from both in and out sides. I have swamped the coil in it and kept a/c running for longer time.
This stuff helped to remove a musty smell just for few days. It temporary kills an odor but not that mold as pro foams do.
May work for little issue but not for serious one.

Thanks for sharing. I sprayed that product through the front last year and the moldy smell came back this year. I learned to use foam applied through the air conditioning draining hose to target the evaporator and the foam turned into liquid rinsing and cleaning because the liquid drained down dark and the cabin smells really fresh. I used the kool that includes a hose which you can re use because it also fits on a foam can to clean the AC sold at Home D for about 6 dollars. Yes you have to get under the car, but I really like that it rinses the dark mold in the evaporator.

There are multiple reasons of causing bad smells in your car. It could be AC on or off. Intake or circulation. There are 4 or more possible air route that could have that smell. Just doing the cabin filter might not solve your problem.

  • @angloedu5499
    @angloedu5499 2 года назад +102

You have to remember to first change the cabin air filter after several months or yearly, then run the A/C on full, spray the Lysol into the vents, run it on RECYCLE Air mode for several minutes, and then allow the cold recycled air to work itself into the A/C unit itself. Again this is a temporary fix, and unable to get cigar or cigarette smell out of any car.

They’ve had to invest in air cleaner products for their house, cabin, and cars. I know I clean their cars by my cleaning services business. But on a lighter side, I found that the best way to get rid of mostly bad smells for cars is to leave then in the sun with the doors wide open for a couple of hours, The Suns UV lighting kills most viruses and opening the doors wide open gets rid of the smell naturally. I inherited a good looking, imaculate 2000 red Chevy Z71 ext cab With bullet hole mags and Mickey Thompson tires, however, tbe seats smell like a gready garage. Scott was a core driller for a mining company, he passed away from cancer, a few minutes after midnight into 2021. He left me his Chevy, even though I already have a 2001, because I was his best friend and took him to all his treatments, and he didnt want his younger brother (52) to junk it and park it in the weeds. I dont drive it much, b7t I cant stand that greasy shop smell. Any tips?

Please don't use lysol. It's highly toxic. I'm sure you can find more than 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Having a carbon filter helps as well as using charcoal bags.

Just one more comment if it's the summer time it could be mildew and mold in the condensate pan of the air conditioning evaporator coil. Or it's simply the upholstery in carpet stinks. Try ozone

I don't recommend spraying an acidic vaporized liquid such as Lysol directly into electrical parts such as a fan motor, fan motor resistor and evaporator. (all are in close proximity to one another), electrical parts don't react well to liquids. i guess if you want to shell out $2000 plus for a new evaporator and fan motor and resistor this is the way to go. there are other safer alternatives for your cars a/c system such as coil cleaner for the evaporator, or just go see a pro that will have to fix it at his cost if he jacks it up.

So I don't have a problem with this method but you should really use alcohol instead because Lysol leaves a sticky residue and that will attract a lot of dust build up and that's a whole nother problem..... so for this one at least 91% just put the alcohol in some type of spray bottle 100% works better and you won't have to worry about your electronics with alcohol either 100% factual
