Great job man as far as free gear and plugins! I have the Dookie Drive pedal and was shocked at how close you could get with that as well! Spot on about finding your own sound. In the words of the great Mike Ness (Social D) "I'd you don't have your tone....you may as well go home."
There’s just something about his setup, having the modded Marshall’s just give it some type of heavy grit, while not being too distorted at the same time that I’ve never seen anyone replicate. I have a Marshall origin 50 which is like a plexi, and a DSL 100 that I like to blend together along with my dookie pedal to get his tone. (Check some Of my Green Day covers for reference) And while it’s close, I still feel like there’s something left to be desired. Great video. Pretty close but I think it’s nearly impossible to nail it 100%. I’ve tried for 12 years 😂😂
Just checked out your basket case cover and the tone is very close. Great job. I'm not delusional enough to think I could ever get BJ's tone, but it sure is fun trying!
I have a guitar with the Dirty Fingers in it too, and it’s what I used for green day tones because it was the best option of what i had at the time. Got pretty close, granted I have an Axe FX 3. This was good especially considering you’re limited to free plugins
Honestly if it works, it works. I just like showing that you can do ALOT without spending money on expensive modeling amps and such. Nothing wrong with those things, but they aren't available to everyone!
@@anndynegative yeah definitely! I don’t regret getting an Axe FX because I love it, but I’m also in the camp that you can get great results without breaking the bank
It's a pretty simple tone, not surprised you got there. Like you say, the tone is in Billie's fingers. Also -- the songwriting is really the focus in Green Day and the reason why they're big, moreso than their guitar tone. It's a three piece punk band. The core of it is so simple, Green Day can't hide behind anything, and so the songs really do have to be strong for them to succeed. Same with Blink and others
Hey man, this is great stuff! Any suggestions on getting this tone on a Strat? I’ve got a hotrails pickup in the bridge that I literally JUST dropped in. While I was in there, I went ahead and wired it up to the tone pot as well. So, any advice on different amp settings than what you are using or dialing in a close tone using the volume and tone controls on the Strat? Also, when you say double track everything… are you tracking 4 times? If so, do you pan a “pair” to each side? Or is it two tracks of the same amp panned to the left and two tracks of the other amp panned right? I’m using GarageBand so unfortunately I can’t play through two different amps at the same time. I can however take one take and duplicate it to another track with the different amp. I’d also like to know if when you blend these two together, if they were on two separate tracks, would you use the same volume for both? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🤘🏼
@@DNovak814 duplicating the same track wouldn't have the same effect of recording a new track 😐 Garage band is a bit limiting, I hope you'll find your solution soon
It's producing too much noise in my headphones. The problem isn't with guitar I'm using humbucker and as I turn on the bluecat with these settings,it makes noise but decreasing gain and overdrive gets away the noise but I loose the greenday sound 🥲 Any trick to remove that noise
can you make the Kurt Cobain guitar tone with a free Plugins? I mean in fact we know that Nirvana was actually 'Punk' Band, right? maybe it can be a good idea for you
@@anndynegative ha that's what I've been trying but I haven't been able to get a satisfying green day tone so far...thanks tho...will try different combinations of virtual pedals and see where it gets me...cheers!

This is very cool. Thanks for sharing
Hope it helps you in your tone journey!

Could you do some bass tone recreations? Like hoppus or dirnt?
That's a great idea!
was waiting for this
Heck yea!
What’s your channel EQ looking like for both amps? Sounding pretty bassy for me

Agreed. There is no doubt that BJs songwriting chops are top tier. He could probably play through a line 6 spider and it would sound good!
idk if it’s just me but 6:08 kinda sounds like the second verse of Basket Case 😂
Anyways, great video man!
Yea I totally just played some green Day progressions. Glad it sounds like the tune!!!
The MIW sticker made me happy
Me too!

Sounds like you may have a grounding issue. Maybe try a different patch cable!
Billie used the gear he had at the time and that's where is tone came from. His technique came from his fingers and his style came from his mind
Exactly
Eh, kinda, but if u have the same modded heads he has anyone can sound just like him
ayyyy you use studio one and youre a green day fan?! *smashes subscribe*

Why does the plug-in have both Gain and Drive? Aren’t they the same thing?
