- In today's episode of Sound Like, Rabea & Matt take on iconic Punk rock band Greenday! Billie Joe Armstrong's riffs, (supported by Mike Dirnt's solid bass playing) were stamped with a classic punk rock tone. However, this same sound could fill stadiums. How will Matt and Rabea strike a balance?

#Andertons #SoundLike #GreenDay - Видеоклипы
If you're old enough to drive, and you want to impress a girl with Green Day, I recommend you take her to the tracks Christie Road.
Sloth Daddy knows what he’s talking about
Absolutely
"Staring out of my window
Watching the cars go rolling by"
@@widnyana_0368 "my friends are gone."
Got it tattooed on me
That's the jazziest P bass I've ever seen
Alex Daley beat me to it dude
Alex Daley probably because it's a jazz bass
Andy Ake oh really?
Elias Motzfeldt yes, really
lol
they didn't come close to getting billie's tone from '94
Rave LTG yea, JB's have a ton of low end, which is not a characteristic of P90's, so it would have been really hard to get that sound with the gear they had
Billie actually didn't have a JB for Dookie, it came later, he had a Bill Lawrence in it during the recording of Dookie.
yes they did, but if they revisit it with the new signature gibson that came out they'll get closer if they run it through a JTM45 Head and cab
You can get a very similar sound to his tone from '94 by using a Squire with a humbucker and a MG10 configured a specific way they even listed their amp settings the difference is a MG10 can't give you their exact specifications because you can't lower the bass with that amp but you get a incredibly close distortiaion a MGCFX might be able to do it thought
probaly because no dookie drive doofus
The title should be changed to review of the reverend guitar with ap90
I may be alone, but I honestly don't care if the DSL40C keeps getting used for all the Marshall artist tones. If it's a good amp, it's a good amp. Why compromise?
Also: sound like Thin Lizzy!
MIR +
It's a great amp. Tried it once in my local store and it sounded great. Also is that Screaming for vengeance in your pic?
Someguy528 Sure is!
totally agree
Sound like Alice in Chains without busting the bank
please!!!!
yes!!!
pleeeeeeeease bloody please! @#$/^&*()
Yes omg
excellent suggestion. and by alice in chains i think we should specify "dirt"
With Rabea's fro? You gotta do Sounds Like Coheed and Cambria.
Totally! I second that.
What isn't this a thing yet!
do it!!!
I'd definitely be interested
That's a tall order, brother! They're using Axe FX units live. I know Claudio typically used a Bogner Uberschall and Travis used Mesa Stilettos for time.
If you want to cover 90s Green Day & 2000s-present Green Day with only 1 guitar, I'd recommend getting a guitar with Seymour Duncan P Rails. Those pups are a single coil combined with a P90, so you can use both together for 90s humbucker stuff or just use the P90 for 2000s-present stuff
John fruscainte by busting the bank
yes!!
yesssssss I'd love that one
Didn't they already do that one?
By not busting the bank probably
Their video room would be flooded with pedals. Like those pools filled with plastic balls for kids.
p bass? that's a jazz bass
TupolevPilot
Guitarists am I rite?
It's even on the headstock!! Cmon guys
It's actually a BC Rich Warlock.
It is a jazz bass - stupid mistake that shouldn't have made the final edit, sorry!
Mike Dirnt is really easy to do anyway. Fender P through a Fender Bassman with the gain cranked. Use a pick. Done.
Hey Matt why not do a full band "Sound Like" this would include drums bass guitar and microphones (for vocals obviously) (lead and rhythm) guitars should have the same budget. Drums and Bass can be determined by y'all. You could use the different departments in Andertons for this video series. This could go both ways on a budget or not on a budget. I feel like this video series idea could help cover bands and the general public! Tell me what you think!
You left out soooo many notes on Longview :(
I've been waiting for this, thank you so much Matt and Rebea.
insomniac was one of my childhood faves .
finally get to see you fingerbang that sensei
I was waiting for them to do this for so long, but frankly, I am really disappointed with this one. I love Green Day and have a Marshall half stack, Les Paul Junior, and a Strat with the angled SH4 and have gotten closer than this. That being said, the junior was $600, the Strat was about $350 with a $65 SH4 and the Marshall was about $400. All without busting the bank. For the money, the Marshall MG100HDFX blows the Blackstar amp they are using out of the water. I dont think any of this really sounded like Green Day at all. It was more of an ad for the guitar than anything else. Disappointed but i will live.
i have to agree, going with blackstar was a really bad choice.. however i think if you chucked a golden plexi from tonecity in you could get a bit closer
Simon Firth That's what I was thinking. Even if you got a cheaper amp along with a golden plexi, that would still be better in my opinion.
beatletrainfan129 Yeah, the amp they chose is easily one of the worst choices possible. They could have even grabbed a fender amp and they could have done Kerplunk/39 Smooth tone xD
Exactly what I was thinking, wish they just used a Marshall.
It's interesting because it seemed like they didn't play many songs where you could even hear the rig's tone. They played the intro to Boulevard, which doesn't give us much information about the tone. Then they played Longview which gave us zero of the guitar tone. I love Green Day and I love Sounds Like but I think they missed the mark on this one
Plz make a sounds like Green Day BY busting the bank
Super Manja I hope they'll make this video xD
Ali Rafiei why
You'd still be under £1,500 with his exact rig
No you wouldn't. You'd be somewhere around £6500 with the two modded Marshalls, the guitar and the pedals. His actual rig has a few additional elements.
AnyTechReviews more than that. He plays old 56 lpjs some times
pistol goo His main guitars are the classic 50's lp junior and his strat blue, easily with just two guitars and both amp w/ mods you'd be in for at least 6 grand
As a bass player, I cringed when he played Longview like that...
Jake Stevens he's obviously not really a bassist cut him some slack
Same
Why? (not a bass player by the way)
Actually I take back what I said because I got to try my cousin's bass and I learned Longview correctly without any trouble so if he plays guitar he should be able to learn it the actual way pretty easily.
He's basically playing it right, but he's just missing a couple passing tones.
Please sound like The Beatles!
I don't know why they haven't done this yet.
PhiI93 The problem with that is that the Beatles had so many different eras. You'd have to make at least 4 videos to cover the different types of music they did.
And those would be at least 4 awesome videos :)
Epiphone Casinos, Rickenbacker & Jazz Basses & Fender Telecaster & Stratocaster....could be pricey.
Alex Creed I agree it would be difficult to chose an era, but those tones are so classic it would be a shame not to attempt them. Plus it would be a real challenge I think, cause the gear was so vintage. I'm talking about those clean/slightly break up rhythm tones like in Taxman, Yer Blues, The Word, One After 909, Savoy Truffle, I've Got A Feeling, chorus of I Me Mine.
Sound like Gojira without busting the bank! :D
Or Deftones
GOJIRA AND DEFTONES
THEY ARE THE BEST
THANK YOU
They are, thank you 😃
For Gojira: Charvel Joe duplantier signature (with lace dissonant agressor in bridge), carbon copy, noise suppressor, octaver and a 5150 ;)
And bust your bank, because the sound is worth it ;D
5150, emg 81, ts9, isp decimator and drop tuning. Done!
Please do Green Day by busting! You could also include their second touring guitarist so you can have 2 super expensive by busting rigs, it's more fun & you'd nail their sound
Billie actually now has a new signature les paul by gibson and it's around £1100 for it so it's gotta get used
he uses Marshall JTM45 Heads and Marshall Cabinets so obviously get them
and for FX he has the BD2 Blues Driver, the GE7 EQ and a tremolo pedal, as well as a Tube Screamer 9
for Jason he uses Les Pauls, ES335's and a weird silvertone guitar so i think get the ES335 and perhaps another Marshall JTM or a JCM depending, along with an MXR Phase 90, Boss PS6 and a Dunlop Wah
and Mike is just his signature Precision Bass into a Fender Bassman head and cab
The newest BJ sig from Gibson won't get his sound at all since the pickup's totally wrong. He's used P90s for almost 20 years now, so even though it's a humbucker it's way too low output to get the 90s tones. Idk what they'd do for his amp since Pete & Meat are both modded Marshalls. You got everything right though. They should do a "sound like the band" series where they include the bass rigs with the guitar stuff, then you could really sound close. They could do Mike's rig plus BJ's & Jason's, and that would be epic. Everyone would love that if they did a whole band thing, we've been asking for that for ages
Why bother?? Billie Joe's rig, and Jason White's rig, are basically the same, except Jason has a 335 with Piezo's in it, line 6 rack delays, and a JD wah! That's the only differences
@@studio31productions83 no they' are different
@@yt_user5614 you talking about his guitars right?
Great job, Matt and Bea you guys always knock it out of the park. I would love to see you guys tackle Joe Bonamassa.
Eric Johnson. Really interesting i feel, and hella smooth
I was gonna suggest the same thing, his tone is magical
Do Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and or Chevelle
love the request 👍
love the profile pic!
chevelle is dope. I have lyrics from send the pain below tattooed on my arm
sound like Johnny Marr
for soundgarden, some kind of gretsch, an epi les paul or an ES, and for the lead part some kind of SG or Les Paul, Marshall DSL40C for the amp, and for pedals, a chorus or rotary and DEFINATELY A WAH FOR THE BLACK HOLE SUN SOLO (If your daring enough to play it >:3)
i wish they would do one of these for weezer
They did
Awesome job on this one! I like it, a lot!
The Edge of U2 without busting the bank
THAT'S NOT A P-BASS!
You guys are absolute goofballs!! (no disrespect)
Do you still do sounds like videos? They're always entertaining and fun packed!
Cheers for the awesome content.
Unusual to see Andertons sending emails about this today. Four years later.
For the love of God, please do AVENGED SEVENFOLD!
T Salty Yes dude! I was about to comment this. Something with a nice boutique clean with tight metal distortion as well. And any guitar with a Seymour Duncan Invader.
yeah! I just think it would be a good one because it's a sick hard rock/metal tone where they use passive pickups and EL34 amps! So unique in their tone!
that would be great!
YES!
***** not for metal they don't...I'm not retarded. It's not unheard of, but very rare for someone of their genre. I just want to see it done. Thanks for taking the time to grace us with your comments.
Nice job.. Choosing a J-bass and then calling it a P-bass.. You could have picked Mike Dirnts squier signature if you had to.
Nikolaj Christensen My mistake! We weren't focussed on the bass either here, just threw it it to support the guitar sound :)
***** It's okay. Guess the sound you had with the added distorted was green day'ish. So still succesful :)!
#fail
Yeah that was a stupid mistake
They also called it "Holliday" instead of "Holiday"
Love the video, would absolutely love to see a sounds like st vincent since she has a lot of gear and itd be really cool and useful
Perfect. I always have to roll down on the volume knob to get the Green Day tone. But bit less treble and you're set. I did it with a Behringer GTX60 and a Modern Player Tele Thinline. It was SUPER close for me.
Could you guys do a video on Smashing Pumpkins?
Would absolutely love this, but is it possible with just two guitars? All those guitar overdubs on Siamese Dream, man.
Dunno if we really need another classic vibe strat into Marshall DSL with a Big Muff video, really.
yes we do.
Hey they could do a reverend since billy corgan has a signature with them (granted the sig is out of the price range)
Pastafarian, I don't know, I have the Stratocaster Billy Corgan Signature and even that doesn't perfectly catch the sound of the "real" Pumpkins (from Gish to Adore, the golden era). Too modern sounding. I think the only combination possible is a 57 AVRI Stratocaster with Lace Sensors and the original Big Muff, all in a damn Marshall JCM800.
Joe Banamassa !
yes
I've commented Joe Bonamassa in nearly every video
.
les Paul.cranked tweed amp.that's it
No, Pete Townsend of the Who, he who inspired Green Day
zz top
Man great tunes mate!! and I love that fckn amp it has ballz
sound like the MISFITS!!
Avenged Sevenfold please!
also means Matt can play something other than bass ;)
Nothing wrong with bass mate.
I agree, Syn and Zacky are great and have unique sounds.
Yes!
Dustin Crysel I disagree, Avenged Sevenfold are an awful band
Sound like Jeff Beck without Jeff Beck.
what?
oh yeah, its totally unique
...Without Jeffing the Beck.
jeff beck's an incredible guitarist but his vocals can become whinny towards the end of songs
I think you guys did a great job. That guitar was a huge, surprising curveball! I have the HT Stage 60, which I absolutely love, and with the two modes for each of the 3 channels, you could have easily done without the BD-2 and/or TS-9 and still get the OD sounds you were looking for.
Do you guys like J Mascis and Dinosaur Jr? I would love to hear you do their sound.
Sound like SOAD by busting the bank
pretty sure they did that one
Yeah but they did the cheap version, now the full scale one
really stupid idea. they should do a by busting the band only for the really influential guitar players
Just use the gear you want, fuck people who are impossible to impress. Speaking of which, you should definately do a video about YOUR FAVORITE UNDER 1.5K RIG using all of your favorite pieces of equipment for what is essentially an "Best of the best". Would be cool, since clearly you have some favorite items like you mention with the Marshall.
also, have to add that great job with the video again, really entertaining!
the bd-2 was my very first pedal ever. still love it, just great for that price
Another great video. Love them, keep em coming. A Richie Sambora one would be good please?
Hey guys, that sounded really good! Two ideas of who would be good to do next. One is Johnny Marr, just because he has a really different tone from some of the more rocky Sounds Likes you've done recently, and he's great. Another is the Velvet Underground, again just because they're something a bit weird and different, and they're a classic. Keep on doing the vids, they're awesome!
pearl jam without busting the bank
Sound Like Hozier / Steel Panther / Cancer Bats
Also you guys could do a "Sound Like *GENRE* for under: X amount of pounds" so for example one week you could do a Sound like Blues for under 750/1000/1500/2000
I think a show like that would really appeal to beginners who've been at it a while who want to start to find their own sound aswell as people who have been at it a few years looking to upgrade their products to really fine tune what theyve got at the minute.
Sounds like a day to remember!
ALICE. IN. CHAINS!!!!!
I love these series and I know that this may sound stupid, but I think that it would be awesome if you did a "sound like without busting the bank" with like 2 bands or more. This will be even harder and awesome! I mean, there aren't many people that want to sound exactly like one band... I know that you can play other types of music with the same setup, but still... For example, I would really like a video "sound like guns n roses and metallica without busting the bank"!! This is very hard and almost impossible, but you can do something between these bands, a setup that can handle easily both! What do you guys think?
I want a reverend so bad they're are perfect guitars for the price I think so anyway.. I own a ht 40 so it's refreshing when you guys you something from the ht series too great video!
Bass and Drums part:
·Mike Dirnt
-Fender Standard Precision Bass with rosewood or maple fretboard. Mike Dirnt uses both, maple for the old songs and rosewood for news
-Fender Rumble 100. A regular Fender bass amp, flat configuration in vintage mode
·Tre Cool
-He plays on mahogany sets. Pearl Export are made of mahogany, but they are so expensive. You need 22 size bass drum and 12x8 single rack tom. Two floor toms if you can, for that configuratio DDrum Journeyman Rambler is a perfect kit
-Tre uses a wooden snare, the 14x6'5 one from the Journeyman Rambler is perfect
-Zildjian cymbals. ZBT series is very good, you also should get a china, it's better the ZBT 16 china cymbal
I am waiting for a sound like Pearl Jam without busting the bank
"infamous Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day" Why infamous tho? That's a negative adjective, GD are a great band!
probably because of his drug addiction problems he had a while back. lol remeber iHeartRadio? shit got a little outta hand.
Doug Donnelly He had a right to be pissed off at that event though, they cut his set in half for more time for shitty Usher.
oh yeah no doubt, I'd be pissed too. but he was hard core on drugs for a while and that's what he was known for really
+Doug Donnelly but that was sorted out in 2 or 3 months. He came back and sold out Emirates Stadium. . and his new song has been #1 in Rock Charts since the past month.
Shun Jags yea I heard he was clean now. I hope it stays that way tbh. I'm not a fan of green days new stuff tho. Anything newer than like American idiot I don't really like.
Nice vid once again! Sound like The Clash sometime? Maybe?
Hey dudes, I really appreciate you taking a crack at Green Day, the band that first inspired me to pick up a guitar. As a guitarist, I know that once one "graduates" from power chords and aspires to become a "great" guitarist, listening back to Green Day can be pretty funny. Love the "Time of Your Life" nostalgia bit!
What always draws me back to Green Day after all these years is their iconic tones. You guys did a great job, particularly with Holiday. That was absolutely spot on.
If you ever cared to revisit the band on a more serious note, simply as a guitarist listening for some new tonal ideas, I would recommend their forgotten album, Warning - particularly the tracks Misery and Deadbeat Holiday. The album is dusted with some of the crispest crunch tones I've ever heard, and the simplicity of the song structures allow the tones to be fully realized. On top of that, the songs are more mature, which makes it easier to appreciate. As the guitar geeks that I've come to love you two as, please give that album a listen.
Keep up the good work,
Caleb from NYC
There's too much treble in there. Green Day has more Bass and Mids in their music with some distortion and a little gain. Close, but not quite Green Day.
JakeRD I think boulevard of broken dreams was way off
JakeRD I think it was caused by the p90s somewhat
The Star Wars Craft actually they run the master vol and gain at 3 and also you can't use those setting with this gear because it isn't the same amp. Even if they could use the same amp those setting would still need to be tweaked because the amp that Billie uses has the dookie mod.
Jack Hail To The Kid i thought the depth of the tremolo was too high
@@rollingon5566 i think it was way on
I was really into Green Day when I was younger, so the second guitar I ever got was a Gibson Melody Maker - which I think achieved the tone of Billie Joe's LP junior a lot better than the guitar chosen here, even though it is equipped with a single coil pickup and not a p90 and costs quite a bit less.
great great sound that acoustic!
Cool! Can't stop watching! & yes, the DSL 40 does sound great! keep that amp in use. from Michigan, "bird".
Green Day are like my favourite band ever
Sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd would be awesome and fun to do!
The Original band, not the new one.
Great suggestion!!
LOL that intro. I replayed it 3 times before watching the rest of the video
Said it the other week on an unrelated video you did about inspirational videos, but you should definitely do a Sound Like Karnivool video!!
SOUNDS LIKE KORN!!! THEY WERE THE ONES WHO BROUGHT THE 7 STRING INTO THE MAIN STREAM!!!
Sound like Johnny Marr, please.
good job! great sound!
I think it's really awesome that you guys do this there so many people out there this learning to play and they have their favor artists use done a lot of mine would be really cool if you could do a sounds like Megadeth
Pearl Jam without busting the bank
Sound like System of a Down should happen sometime.
they did that already.
They did that one, but if they ever do a By Busting the Band
I've watched several and enjoy the series. This one is my favorite so far, mostly for the unconventional but successful guitar choice.. You even have me thinking twice about the amp. I don't know if you control this but the advert at the beginning had me laughing before you even started. What percentage of your demographic is looking for a custom horse saddle? Loved it! Maybe I can get one to fit our chihuahua mix...
Please do How To Sound Like Dance Gavin Dance Without Busting The Bank please, their guitar work is amazing and they have a lot of really cool effects
I would love a sound like Alice in Chains. A lot went into Jerry Cantrell's sound though, so that might be a really hard one for the money.
Sound Like The Doors!!
Best intro I've seen
nailed it!!
Guys I love our videos but, as a Green Day fan I'm kinda disappointed, cuz I was expecting a better sound (since you didn't achieve that Green Day tone). You should've went with the classic Marshall and les Paul junior!
Sound like Bon Jovi and please do a sound like acdc by busting the bank.
1) Get a great a great SG
2) Get the loudest Marshall you can
3) Turn everything up
Done :)
João Reis Billie has never played an SG. A fat strat is much closer.
Well, the Schaffer Vega Tower by SoloDallas he uses is 1300$ alone, look at the Rig Rundown. Custom Shop SG is around 2500 and a Plexi, which in comparison isnt that expensive.
well... lol he did at the bizarre festival around the time warning came out
Billie Joe has played many SGs. Look up performances from the insomniac and warning tours
I would love to see how they would do a Green day by busting the bank because Billie has so many different sounds from the way he plays and his amazing guitar collection
I think the Reveren guitar looks good and has a nice shape. It is good to see some alternatives.
How can you do Green Day and not Johnny Marr ffs
Scott Williamson who tf is Johnny Marr
well cuz Green Day only sold 80-85 million records.
I Neither Love or Hate Everything its a joke
Who gives a fuck about record sales. Marr is one of the best guitarists out there.
We need johnny marr!
SOUND LIKE MOTORHEAD ( yes i know lemmy was a bassist !)
SOUND LIKE PRINCE ! it would be a great tribute to two extremely influential artist, prince i believe would be your undoing , no way for under 1500 squid. i'm interested what people we think princes rig was as i only know he played a tele , but he played so many other guitars that i have no idea what they started out as before being modified to his symbol. what pedals did he use ? i love this series and loved this episode especially as it wasn't just a ephy or squire etc
Out of all the Without busting the bank videos this was has the closest sound to the actual band. It is spot on and with a budget too! Good job guys! Now you just need to form a Green Day cover band.
Really enjoyed this one fellas. Any chance of doing The Edge?
Epiphone LP Jr. ( P90) Boss Overdrive, Boss EQ, Marshall Lead 12 ( Solid State). That's Billy Joe on a budget
sneifert1968 I can’t find an epiphone lp jr. with p90s.
Billie*
sneifert1968 I think that’s too budget
Hahaa Leap of Faith, Reverend guitars. Don't worry Bea, your pun did not go unnoticed.
Nailed it
Sounds like..Slayer one day maybe ? ^^
Awesome videos and keep it up!!!
Van Halen would be so good
Even Green day don't bust any bank when buying new gear 😝
hey, nice metronome trick with the TR!
I have the left handed reverend double edge. I'm glad I picked one up when they were more affordable than now 😂😂
Van halen... no... ok:(
How about Extreme then?
Nuno's tone is outstanding!
Nuno's one of 'Bea's favourite guitarists.
Pretty easy really. Use any EVH guitar and amp, and play the exact same 4 or 5 solos for the next 40 years.
Done.
it's harder to get his tone than what you think
A sounds like Periphery would be fuckin' sick
I have 3 Reverend guitars. I love them.
Hi,
Another Great Videos. Ever thought about a Sounds like Joe Bonamassa? That would be awesome!
Sound like Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow
A Day To Remember
sucks!
It´s never to late to do a Sound Like Rush :)
the blues driver (BD-2) is my favorite drive pedal, I own. but I also own a vintage Ibanez tube screamer (ts 9 )that I don't use often as it is not the sound and tone I'm after
