One thing I know is that you still hear the engine noise from the 68 in the distance after it passes you

When I’ve seen them depart Lea Green I can sometimes still hear them for quite a while afterwards if the wind is blowing right wouldn’t be surprised if they are close to Rainhill by the time you can’t hear it by far the loudest modern diesel locomotives

Indeed. You can also hear the engine even before you see the train coming.

The 88 has got the same front end as the 68 but the difference is that 88 isn’t strong enough to go haul heavy trains so the 68 has to help it by pushing it along

Explains why you sometimes see two Class 88s together The brummie Rail enthusiasts, thanks

The Class 68 Diesel and Class 88 Bi-Mode Stadler Euro Dual built by Vossloh and Stadler are very reliable locomotives. Plus Stadler is to manufacture the Tri-Mode Class 93 Stadler Euro Dual for Rail Operations Group which I have no idea when of if the Class 93s will be built and to be in service possibly from next year. Which the Class 93 will look identical to the Class 68 and Class 88 locomotives.
