  • We had added a Lowrance Fish Reveal sidescan transducer to the stern of a Vexus VX21 bass boat. The Fish Reveal sidescan capabilty requires the S3100 Sonar module. We take the boat for a ride and show you some of the features, capabilities, and a little comparision to another side imaging transducer.

      You're welcome. I appreciate you watching the video. I am planning on at least one more video to dig further into the settings. Well, when I get fully recovered, which is getting closer. Make sure that you are subscribed so that you'll be notified. Thanks again.

    To get better picture with garmin you have to switch SI frequency to 455 khz just like you did with lowrance . Mega is good for max 30-40 feet deep . You have nice electronics there but also a lot more to learn . Have fun and enjoy.

      Thanks for the tip. The Garmin was on a customer's boat. My boat is all Lowrance. I am surprised that the Garmin mega Si is only good for that shallow of a depth. Do you know how much power the SI channel puts out? Lower power would definitely limit the range and detail at deeper depths. And yes, there is a bit to learn about each unit and its setup.
      Also the Garmin was only turned on to see the map page, but he had it on the SI page. So I was a bit like whoops, I didn't want to show that but here it is, that's why I did mention that it was set up better at some point but he had taken it back to factory settings. And that was my first time on the water with a Garmin, even though I have done many installations of them.
      And finally, thanks for the comment and watching the video. Keep an eye out for an upcoming video to show more settings including those for down imaging in the future.

      @@garrywoodruff960 both higher frequencies will work the same way up to 30-40’ in all 3 , HB , lowrance or garmin. If you want to get better image in deeper water you have to switch to 455 kHz . To get the best results you definitely have to play with settings.

      That's interesting, I have been running 800 KHz in auto for years and seeing very good details at depths up to 150-200 feet. So it will interesting to try the MHz range next week in the various depths to check for details.

      Thanks for the clarification. That's interesting that the signal attenuation at higher frequencies is that severe but it is going through water as the medium. I plan to run another side-by-side using the higher frequencies (including all frequencies) next week. And I will test at various water depths. I now have the HD on my boat and I got a second jackplate mount to put my old transducer back on for the testing.

    And you have to have the 3100 module for that Fish Reveal correct Gary ?

    • @garrywoodruff960

      Hi Glenn, yes you need a S3100 module for fish reveal sidescan. It is an expensive option much like the 3D module.

    Garry hello!

      Hi, right now I have not seen a viable solution to eliminating the noise problem. As I mentioned, you can only minimize the noise by running different frequencies. And yes, I did see noise issues in the down/side scan with the latest Lowrance update. This happened when I left all of my units on instead of placing the console units in standby when I go to the bow. I have a video in progress where I deal with noise but on the Pro units and Active Target 2.
      I am trying to make time to get back with the Vexus owner with those units (my boat is all Lowrance), and see if I can find a better method to minimize the noise between the brands. If I do then I'll make a video to document it.

    Gary I think I’ve asked this before but I have a HDS Live 12 and a HDS Live 12 Pro without buying a 3100 module. But getting the new AI 3 in 1 what unit would you run on the console ? And the other for AT 1 at the bow ? Right now I have the older 2 in 1 transducer in the back with a shoot thru hull for 2D. Thanks for any help ! 👍

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  2 месяца назад +1

      You will need to connect the new HD transducer to the Pro unit. So I would put the Pro at the console and replace the older 2-in-1 with the 3-in-1 HD transducer. And connect the shoot thru hull to Channel 1 on the Pro. And then you can share the output to the Live unit via Ethernet. Since both units have 2 Ethernet ports, you can connect them as follows: bow unit (Live) to console unit (Pro), and AT1 to the bow unit (Live).
      Since you have the AT1 there is no advantage to putting the Pro on the bow. Although I have seen some issues with Live units running both Ethernet ports simultaneously. I would be tempted to run 2 Ethernet cables to the Pro - one from the Live and the other from AT module. Of course another option is to use a network hub but that adds cost an bit more complexity.
      Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know what questions you have.

      @garrywoodruff960 HI Gary got my AI HD 2 in 1 installed and it's hooked to the outside port (black one) and thru hull is on blue connector. If I go into pages/sonar the internal sonar ch 1 box isn't checked internal sonar ch2 is and network sonar. Is that right ? Thanks Glenn

    • @garrywoodruff960
      @garrywoodruff960  Месяц назад

      You need to have both CH1 and CH2 turned on, as well as Network Sonar. CH1 is the Blue connector and is your in-hull transducer. CH2 is the black connector and is your 2-in-1 HD. I assume that this is on your Pro unit.

    I'm running Garmin. If u would have tinkered with it she would have given a much better picture I'm wanting to upgrade but for now I have what i can afford. Prices of these units are pushing your non pros to just live with what we have and spend our money on tackle or fuel.

      First thank you for watching the video.
      I thought about playing with the Garmin settings, but we were running out of daylight and both of us had a long drive that evening. I had turned the Garmin on to test the noise that the customer had mentioned. It was reset to factory settings as was the Lowrance transducer.
      I fully understand about prices, I saw gas up there over $4 a gallon and I paid about $5.70/gal on the water. That makes for an expensive tournament day in fuel at well over $240 plus a gallon of oil. And not to mention hotel and food prices, it is getting hard to stay gone so long and be affordable. The HDS Live units are still very good units and can be had at a good price. The HD transducer is really good. In fact, I am working on a video comparing the 3-in-1 with the HD 3-in-1, there is a difference. But the real difference is between your ears, if you know what I mean. Everything else is just a tool to help you be more efficient on the water, but you still have to make the final decisions.
