  • Lowrance Product Expert Jacob Scott walks through the basic settings, set up and interpretation of Active Imaging SideScan.
    Check out this breakdown Active Imaging Color Palettes, Contrast settings, the SideScan screen, plus tips on identifying fish, navigating back to a waypoint saved to the side of your boat, plus sonar interpretation tips on recognizing bottom composition, laydowns and how far fish are from the bottom.
    Active Imaging SideScan delivers views of structure and cover at a new level of refined detail up to 150 feet to each side of the boat. The high-level clarity, target separation and detail of Active Imaging will help you find more fish by making it easier to quickly identify fish-holding structure like rockpiles, standing timber, weedbeds, ditches and drop-offs.
    Active Imaging is available as a 3-in-1 transducer with CHIRP, SideScan and DownScan Imaging or as a 2-in-1 transducer with SideScan and DownScan Imaging for anglers that already have a CHIRP transducer installed on their boat.

    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    Truly amazing how you can get such a clear image of the passing shoreline with the boat sitting perfectly still. Don't get me wrong, I'm still probably going to get one, but it would be nice if the "in use" video would reflect the waves and steering variations you get when you're actually looking at live sonar, instead of a "demo" loop.

    Hi Jacob. Just bought a HDS 9 Live with 3-1 tranceducer. Before I had an old 5 inch Ray Marine sonar, but this is a new World for me. Allmost everyone mount the tranceducer in the rear, but I will have it on portside for vertical fishing. I will be able to rotate 360 degrees. What can I expect with side scanning if the tranceducer is pointing to the left instead of pointing backwards? Is there any video showing how the image will apear compared to the normal situation with a black area in the middle under the boat?

    Is the two black side a blind spot underneath your vessel? Time 6:27 shows roughly that you're in 25 feet of water, the blue line also starts at that mark and goes outwards to 150 feet. Does this mean that you're blind to the bottom for a range of ~ 50 feet total between the left and right of your vessal?

    When you mark a waypoint on something like a rock, does the unit do the math to triangulate it and place it correctly based on the depth of water and range to the object? Or do you need to make your waypoint closer to your boat to offset the depth component of the range? Thanks, I just got a Carbon and am excited to try it out

      I have this same unit and transducer. When you stop your screen an mark your way point let's say on a sunken tree, your waypoint will save on top of the tree so you can go back and fish that spot. I do alot of trolling crackbaits and I mark structure and schools of fish so I can go back and flip a jig to that spot and pull fish out of it.

    Great video👍...Listen i just purchased my 1st Lowrance unit long time Humminbird user here.I bought the HDS live 9.First time out last week i noticed using 800 that i have 2 black lines on either side of my image around 20 feet out on either side.I see u have the same black lines on either side what causes this?

    • @lowrance
      @lowrance  5 лет назад

      Hi,
      Welcome to the family. The black lines are the area directly below the boat. The side imaging does not send signals straight down so there is no signal returned in the area directly below the boat. As a result the area is black. You will notice the screen is black on the far outside as well. that too is caused by no return information. If you look at the display you will notice the left hand side the image to the outside stops sooner than the right side. The boat is closer to the shore on the left side so the imaging is stopping essentially at the shoreline. I hope that answer your question.

      First make certain you have selected the proper channel for the source. If that is not the issue you may have the transducer plugged into the wrong port.on the back of the unit. On the Carbon 7" unit the 3in1 trnsducer should be plugged into the the connector beside the power connector

      HDS7 has a slower processor. Multiple touches (in quick sequence) causes a 1-2 second stop in touch response.
      It's really annoying. I've never seen a demo on a HDS12 that has the same touch response stalling effect.

      Hi,
      I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties. If in less thn 7' of water I am assuming you are using sidescan as the downscan coverage would only be 3'ft or less. If you are using SideScan please try increasing the range to 10 feet or more. That should help the unit lock on to the bottom and hold it.

    • @lowrance
      @lowrance  5 лет назад

      HI,
      I have reported the issue to the engineers and they will be looking at it. in answer to your queston about seaweed; Experience will be the best teacher when it comes to distinguishing fish from seaweed or any vegitation but there are a few pointers to help you in that quest. When we mark a fish we are almost always marking the airbladder of the fish. The airbladder can never actually lay on the bottom so if it is close to the bottom but not touching it raises the probability it is a fish. Fish will usually mark with an arced shape seaweed tend to mark in longer straight lines that can be horizontal, vertical or at differing angle but not typically in an arc. And last a fish will typically mark with a weaker return that gets strong in the middle and then grows weak again. The strogest return is usuall in the middle of the arc. Seaweed will have a more consistent return acros the entire return with less veriation in the strength of the return. I hope this helps

    Should i upgrade my 3D StructerScan to a Active Image 3in1? Is it better image on the Active Image 3in1?

    • @lowrance
      @lowrance  5 лет назад

      Hi,
      Structure 3D and Active Imaging are two different technologies for displaying what is in the water. I wouldn't replace the 3D i would add the 3in1 if possible. 3D uses elements arranged in such a way that we can process the image and provide spatial relationship to the returns. It allows you to get a perspective of the target as it relates to the boat, bottom, and sides of the area you are fishing. Active Imaging uses different elements for the transmit and receive functions. This allows us to use a much faster ping speed. Ping speed ( how often we transmit a pulse of sound) has a direct correlation to image resolution or clarity. WIth active imaging we no longer have to chose between high resolution and intricate detaill or range. We can have both
