      I’m glad yall have the privilege to have this viewpoint. This is how I knew yall are of a certain hue.
      Start pay attention to wigs in movies, especially if the character is black. Bc production uses cheap wigs majority of the time. Straight from party city.
      This shouldn’t have to be said bc I thought everyone knew that black people when it comes to their hair in the entertainment industry whether it be acting, modeling etc they always come into issues with their hair. The stylist never knows how to do their hair and sometimes straight up refuses. There are so many examples of this. Just go look up the story of Monique Coleman when she was in highschool musical. Gloda rosheuvel got emotional on the set of Queen Charlotte bc they actually took the time to understand her hair. Many black actress have to arrive on set with their hair down bc they know the stylist won’t be able to do it and the list goes on abt hair discrimination for black ppl.
      Yall comments ignores the commonly known issues of black hair discrimination in the industry. Yall really just shouted to the world I dnt noticed inequalities. I only pay attention if someone tells me to bc if it doesn’t happen to like me, a person who doesn’t have a hair texture past 3b it doesn’t exist.
      Yall just did the equivalent of saying “of color they have her shade of foundation, she’s the main character” knowing good and well how the shade ranges are when it comes to dark skin. 😑 like go educate yourself and start paying attention to inequalities, maybe then you wouldn’t post an ignorant comment on a video praising a black actress wig. the creator made the short bc she understood the importance of the wig being made in its entirety bc it literally never happens.
      Black actress’s have been screaming abt hair discrimination for years and yall still made that comment, thinking “got cha” 🙄

      @@Lady.Fern. It shouldn't have been a black actress to begin with. The original Wicked Witch was based on an anti-semitic stereotype, and that's why many of the Broadway cast (including the original Elphaba) have been Jewish actresses. I love Cynthia but if any of this was reversed people would be PISSED. Also, she has the most wonderful voice but it doesn't sound like ELPHABA. Her version of Defying Gravity? Nah. I think that was such a smart and creative way to maintain the slick and pulled back hair that was important to Elphaba’s look and arc, while still emphasizing her Afro hair and not trying to white wash Cynthia. And the micro braids make it easier to keep her hair consistent even as her style becomes less meticulous and more free throughout the movie. Great way to combine Elphaba and Cynthia’s styles into the role.

    • @Scarspain
      @Scarspain 16 дней назад +5

      What do you mean Afro hair we it’s just hair. Just call her hair normal hair please and this is a black person’s hairstyle. It’s nothing new. I don’t know why people act like these are new hairstyles. These are hairstyles that black women use anyways. So it makes sense for them to use it.

    • @kittyscreativecorner
      @kittyscreativecorner 16 дней назад +30

      @ I know they’re not new hairstyles, I just meant usually Elphaba’s hair is pin straight, and the micro braids was a smart way to maintain Elphaba’s iconic look and Cynthia’s natural hair at the same time. It took a lot of time and dedication to make these wigs, and they could’ve taken the easy route and just given her a wig like most of the stage Elphabas have worn, but instead they made a change to suit the person playing her, rather than make Cynthia change to suit the character. And the micro braids also make it easier to put her hair into any other kind of style or shape without having to straighten anything.

      You do know that decisions aren't made in a vacuum Right. Lots of people can be involved in the creative process. Cynthia might feel like she made an decision but it was based on the options and creative vision of others. Actors are actors. There's a lot of people involved in the making of an film. That's why the credits are so long. Then there's the people not on the credits due to union reasons.

      But Elphaba isn't a black woman. Nah. Hearing her in other musicals, her voice soars. This just wasn't the role for her.

      Take when actors/actresses say that they did all of their own stunts with a grain of salt. They may have done some low risk stunts (running in heels/ being harnessed up/etc), but directors can't risk production stopping or being delayed over an injury. They also have to protect the actor's money maker (aka face). Think of it like how Beyonce can be credited with "writing all of her own songs." You can do the smallest of efforts for stunts and still say you did all of your own stunts, even if you have a team doing the risky stuff. Like, The Rock has a stunt performer (aka his cousin).
      While I can't think of anyone in recent years that 100% of the work, Jackie Chan and Bruce Li are one of the few that can say that (probably not anymore, but they did in the hight of their careers).
      -source: I'm a former stunt performer.

      Can't you just compliment the process and product, then leave? And what do you mean by "Queens" Girl, the hairstylist is a black woman. Black women who worked diligently with her to make her wigs. 10 wigs. Took 10 days. Open your ears and listen. Either way, why is it always Black people always wanna say something negative about another Black person's process? The wigs are great. Simply just say that and go on, not everyone can move their fingers fast when doing hair🤦‍♂️ no need to bash them over it, or compare.

    I find it a bit troubling that they cast a black woman as Elphaba and a white, skinny girl as Glinda. It feels like an implicit message that black people are "ugly." Why couldn't Cynthia have been Glinda? I'm not trying to start a race war here, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's just how I see it.
    If you've read the book, you know it's very dark and emotional, with a lot of political themes. It tells the story of the green-skinned girl who grows up to become the terrifying villain we remember from the classic tale. Book Elphaba truly becomes evil. She's a leading figure in a terrorist movement, nearly murders a crowd of children, kills another child with an icicle, mutilates a corpse, and instructs her bees to sting a man to death. She's an abusive mother who doesn't acknowledge her own son and even admits she wouldn't mind if he died because it would be "one less mouth to feed." Book Elphaba is a very dark and misanthropic character, with serious mental health issues, including symptoms of chronic depression, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, narcolepsy, and psychopathy. Yet, all this darkness and malice make her interesting and relatable.
    Given that our society often depicts dark colors as "evil" and black people as "dangerous," I think it's incredibly irresponsible to cast a black woman as the character depicted as evil.

      @MadameCorgi she's the only one that thinks that, because she's her friend. Fiyero likes that he can have her (no one else wanted her). The Wizard likes that she's smart (for his ego). Nessa needed Elphaba to survive because she was her caretaker. Only her best friend thinks she's beautiful.
