i think adding hip pads or following a 1700s skirt tutorial couldve made the skirt better only cuz her dress is a mix of both 1700s and 1920s with the drop waist, square bustle, and open neckline!
The design was actually inspired by the 20s high fashion that was inspired by rococo including side hoops or just very puffy exaggerated dropped hips
Literally came here to say the same thing. Lol!
Pannier Petticoat / Bustle Cages
Yes, she definitely had pocket hoops...it's not just a big round dress. This is absolutely late 1700s court gown shape.
Thought the same thing! I was like GIrL you can get SO much more volume. Look what they did in the past lol
Never underestimate the power of bum and hip pads when you need a skirt to maintain a certain shape. The pannier style of boning could have potentially helped in giving some inspiration for your design, some of those ladies wanted their hips WIDE. BUT Regardless! You fought your way into a very fun end result
Amd those can be layered to
looking back I def should have looked into more historical styles!! panniers would've been PERFECT!!
Came to say panniers too!
Hi😊@@crescentshay
@@crescentshaylove the gown you look so very beautiful and very gorgeous
the dress is perfect for talking to people without wanting them to be too close to you
she previously made a social distancing dress!
😂😂😂 should have been ideal during covid time 😅
Shay, Micarah and Bernadette are my holy trinity of chaotic sewing projects
Also gunther
Same here! Except I wouldn't class Bernadette as chaotic. Rachel Maksy, now that's another chaotic one to add to the list for sure! Lol
@@pahulgill3195gunther isn’t very chaotic. and it wouldn’t be a trinity if there was another name lmaoo
@@mallarielove I was actually referring to the sewing trinity on RUclips for me … Gunther, Shay and Micarah … but ur also correct Gunther doesn’t take on chaotic projects
waitwaitwait must needs add Rachel Maksy. Cannot have complete chaos without her.
as a dude who doesnt make anything clothing related and has no knowledge. i love that you dont just show and tell what you are doing, but how youre doing it and how it works, you explain so well and it keeps me so interested
Same bro
Cute xx
ITS SO PINK I LOVE IT!!!!!!! although i would have looked into using panniers for the skirt, they hold the sides out really well and give that sort of rectangle-ish shape that looties skirt has :) (and they could get HUGE, Marie Antoinette had some big ones)
That is a really good idea
That smart
I’ve ALWAYS wanted to have a huge princess dress like this. You are living out my DREAM!!! PRINCESS ✨✨
You should follow the seamstress who makes the gypsy big hooped wedding dresses
You should watch quince dress shopping. Those girls wear princess dresses for those functions for everyone's princess dreams : )
Same
0:15 is such a cute outfit to be in, likeee,.. shes so beautiful😭😭
i bet its from thredup lmao!
My toxic trait is watching this video and then thinking I could make my own Halloween costume this year too… despite not having any sewing skills nor equipment 😂
Thrift stores are the best to start off that and fabric glue
yeah you can buy things and slightly modify it or just buy it and then yea! i am making a halloween costume of my old witch oc and im making the witch hat from eva foam and made the staff from a wrapping paper tube and wire. i bought the shirt and skurt from shein and dyed it purple so yea u can be lazy as possible lol
@@asteroid_star @nikadoesart thanks for the suggestions, will definitely consider those options! Though I guess I now also lack imagination as I don’t even know what I’d want to be lol
Charity shops + paint you can use fabric softener as fabric medium
Lol
this dress turned out amazing omg and kudos to your friend for making a whole wig it really sold the outfit!!
she did an absolutely AMAZING job!!!!
thee dream dress!!! when i saw the animation i thought that lottie was wearing panniers instead of a hoop skirt
Lottie clearly is wearing panniers, i just think she missed that detail.
I googled what those are now, and now my desire for max volume can be further explored. Thanks.
@@ava4689 no worries, champ
15:52 the way she runs omfg perfect 😂
Shay’s creativity is really endless
You know, I really appreciate how much confidence you have in figuring things out yourself as you go. As someone who nearly gave up sewing altogether due to constantly being told "your seams aren't perfect enough" or "you made one little mistake here so the whole thing is bad", it's refreshing to see someone so happy with a simular mindset to me. So long as you like the way it looks it doesn't matter how you get there!
I could replay this forever, so enchanting.
I think what you really need for Lottie's dress, more so than a hoopskirt, is a grand pannier. They definitely had some super big ones back in the 1700s! And her dress is def more rectangle than circle: wider at the sides than it is at front and back
I feel like panniers could have also helped with even more poof, at least in the side-regions, since panniers make a skirt wider to the sides. I'm not sure if that would do much if she wanted to get the same volume of poof around the whole skirt, though.
The whole video I was shouting panniers!!!
This turned out amazing! 😍
This was so unbelievably cute!! I definitely agree with the other comments that panniers would probably be a lot easier or perhaps adding vertical support to the hoop. I also think adding some horsehair to the hem of the actual dress would prevent the edges of the soft satin from getting dragged under the hoop like it did when you were moving around. I respect the reuse of your old project. That pink tulle was perfect!
Wow, what a dress! I just thought if this floor-length hoop skirt had also vertical support, you could basically use it as a support and maybe even doze off a little in it...But it sure looks cute and a lot like Lottie.🥰
You can’t go wrong with a giant, pink princess dress! And it’s Lottie’s! Child me wanted her treasure trove of princess dresses like you wouldn’t believe!! Honestly I still do!
the hard work and effort u put into making that dress is sweat , blood and tears ,like u spent an enormous amount of time , dedication and money to make that thing . i appreciate ur amazing hard work and love towards making dresses !
It’s always great seeing what creation is coming our way from you. Don’t stop girl! You make it look fun and it’s always refreshing seeing someone as bubbly as you showcasing their talent for people to enjoy.
I love it when people put their errors in the videos. Learning alterations and fixing errors is a very important part of garment construction because most times we go into sewing projects not knowing what the heck we doing ❤❤❤❤... you got my subscription just for that.
This turned out so good!!! Everytime Shay makes a dress from a cartoon its like she makes them alive! 💝👑😊
As a princess and the frog fan, I am absolutely in LOVE with this. The kid in me is gushing out rn🥰‼️‼️
This is so darling! I’m not a pink ball gown girly, but Lottie is such a wonderful character that this gown brings so much joy to me! You did an incredible job!
I wonder if Shay thought of adding in a drum farthingale or French farthingale, and possibly bumb roll or pads, to help with the poof and supporting the weight.
She didn’t do her research. Maybe next time she will 😅
I hope she reads your comment for the next gigantic dress she makes 🩷
@@natashahenriquez6417 I would love to see her collab with some of the dress historians.
I did not 😅😅 honestly for this dress my brain was stuck in costume mode rather than historical mode so i forgot about ALL the other skirt support systems - I was just thinking princess dress so I went with a straight hoopskirt! 😅
@@crescentshayany chance you’ll try again?
Oh my gosh, Lottie’s Dress looks gorgeous! Now I am more hyped and determined to make Lottie as a custom doll and give her the poof for her dress.
I don't understand how you keep doing this, but my jaw is once again on the floor at your talent, well done, ma'am, well done!!! 👏👏👏
0:33 I FORGIT ABOUT THAT DRESS, THAT WAS ICONIC
This dress reminds me of one of those barbie dress cakes! Great build, Shay!
I have been obsessed with watching your channel! You seem fun and adventurous... I am a self taught sewist, but never had the guts to try to make elaborate dresses like the ones I see you making... I think it would be so cool if you made a "living dress" one made out of plants and vines.... or how about a dress made of bubble wrap? How about a fairy costume made of fiber optics? Or A gown made of roses? A mermaid swimsuit? or a dress that transforms... for example starts as a cocoon, and at a pull of a string becomes a winged butterfly... how about trying your luck at one of those "quick change" dresses, you know the ones that have secret compartments that store a whole new outfit... maybe you could do Sleeping beauty's blue/pink dress or cinderellas dress that transforms from rags to the ball gown... I am so excited to see what you make next!!!!!
I love the fact that you had actual first hand experience with making a hoop skirt so big that nobody has tried to go for the record of it yet.
Like imagine being able to say, yes I’ve made a hoop skirt this size before 😅
11:05 the song is so nostalgic for me 😭😭 i used to watch Georgia productions and she’d put this song in a bunch of her videos
Same😭
You know, seeing you dive head first into such a huge project without much research is so inspiring, I need to do more of that!!😂 Also, you are such a good fit to be Lottie, I loved it. 💖
Lottie's dress has always been so satisfying to watch ❤ I'm super stoked to see it come to life!!!!
i'm listening to the plan for all the petticoats and just thinking "oh that's so heavy. they're gonna be so sore" respect for the dedication
Lottie is an icon, a legend and she is the moment 😂 I love your creativity and your designs Shay! 🩷
You suit Lottie so well! 😭 so cute this made my Halloween
Lottie is so iconic. I love this, you look super adorable. Amazing job.
Nailed it as usual! Shay's costumes and makes always hit a 10 out of 10 from an onlookers perspective!
Lottie is my FAVORITE princess!!! I love the dress!!!!!!
Hot glue use is so real. Looks great! Very impressive make 🎉
Hip buckets might've been a better structure shape to then layer with petticoats. You got the proportions though and that's the hardest part!
I would absolutely love a tour of your closet! (not a costume tour, just normal clothes) because like how do you organize it all? What are your favorite pieces?
When she said “you put this together and this together you get a princess” but instead it said “you put this together and this together you get ( safelight ad comes on ) you get a princess.
Wow the wig really completes the look!
I’m glad to see a side character have the spotlight 💞 love your work Shay 👗 ✂️
Bustles!!! They're so perfect for the bigger width and padding out the dress too
how you knock these dresses up so quickly astounds me. bravo
The wig is beautiful and so well done. I just don't think the shape is quite right. But good on the designer for getting it so CLEAN. It really is a triumph of a wig.
The way you absolutely SLAYED this look! 🔥🔥
This was such a good idea and you look exactly like Lottie! You did an amazing job like always! The wig is really cool 💕💕
Seeing this as I bought the stuff to make for my Tiana prom dress is such a good feeling
Wow, I've never been this early. It was worth it to watch this beauty come together!
Her dress is Rococo style, and I love how it matches her. Your version is cute too!
I don't know how i could have forgotten about this dress!?! 😍😍You absolutely killed it, and i couldn't help but smile through the whole process!
I love Lottie so much. She is amazing. I have found myself loving hyperfeminity with not as feminine characters so Tiana and Lottie are my FAVOURITE pairing
Lottie: she’s an icon.shes a legend. And she is the moment.
I adore Lottie's dress sm! Great recreation
It was such a stroke of luck that you posted this right as I was about to get the fabric to make a huge petticoat! This was really helpful!
Sooo good, tip my hat to the really great wig girlie,it brought it all together ✨✨🎃
I’m so in love with this project! Lottie has always been one of my favorite Disney characters 🩷
I just love how she takes her Tina to post it and it isn't like the rest... Crescent shy we all love you
my head was hurting and when i drank cold water and put you on i fell much better😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lottie is such an iconic girls girl like Elle woods I love her so much 😭❤️
Beautiful dress as always Shay! You are such a talented young lady, please keep doing what makes you happy.
the Lottie run is sending me 😂 as someone who cannot do math to save her life i understand the struggle lol
You did a great job on this dress and your friend did a great job on the wig. The social distancing dress was an excellent source to recycle into a Lottie petticoat!
The clip of the clothes racks during the ad segment looked like the door storage scenes in 'Monsters Inc'.
I wonder if panniers or a bustle would help with the understructure? The dress looks like it floofs out to the side and back more than in the front. Something I've seen once, I think as a costume not a historical gown, was a central hoop skirt with three 'columns' of hoops around it, on the sides and back. Of course, as seen when Lottie gets knocked over after Frog!Naveen and Tiana get chased through the party, she *is* canonically wearing a hoop skirt, not multiple pieces.
Shayyyyy!!!! You queen!!! This is literally my dream project
Patiently waits for Galinda if it comes out I’m instantly subscribing
The running down the stairs in the reveal was ✨EVERYTHING ✨ 😍💖
It’s lovely! U just missed two things: Lottie’s fan and her absolute sass
I love your channel you actually saved me from depression you cheered me up when my brother died and it means the world to me I love you and your humor thank you
Also, I was wondering if you could do a rayla themed dress from The Dragon Prince I just love her so much she is a sarcastic assassin queen
It has been my DREAM to see her dress IRL so I am so thankful for your channel! Love the dress!
Im glad someone did this because idk if im just seeing certain people just make her fairytale book dress and not her party dress
“All the historical girlies, look away” 😅 made me chuckle. This turned out so great and you learned so much!!😊
Going down stairs really sells it. My goddaughter LOVED this movie, so I enjoyed the memories, thank you.
The reveal of the full costume (including the wig) makes me so jealous of you and your beauty. I hate being a boy! 😭
Lottie is my favorite Princess - also she is the best
OMG this looks so beautiful!!! ❤❤❤
this dress is so fun !! can't wait to see the other costume you made
Talent never ceases to amaze me omg !!🫶🫶
I love how huuge and pink it is, honestly the chaotic making is very relatable!! I think you should look at Bella Mae's Designs cinderella 2015 hoopskirt and underskirt making videos, since that skirt is also ginourmous and she is a very skilled sewer!
Okay, but not the broken clip onthe pencil being SO relatable.
i have loved your content for years now but recently re-fell in love with princess in the frog and THIS MY NEW ROMAN EMPIRE ❤ (this sounds a lot less enthusiastic than i am LMAO)
If you put something like wood at the bottom, it helps to hold that weight. I think that is a historically accurate method.
It is SO FLUFFY! I love it.
Having fun is the best part.
I love seeing you make things they always turn out silly cute silly sometimes and just I love it. I just love it in the end. It’s always perfect.
The sheer size of the dress is awesome. You look so ready for a cosplay 😂❤
She needs to make a silver mist dress. That one fairy from the kids show if we’re following the kids theme
100% she did not go down a historical rabbit hole of French panniers.
First of all!!! LOVE YOU !!!!!!! I made a few hook skirts and petticoats in my day. What I learned is.....If you have 6 hoops take hoop 3 and duplicate it. continue to make your hoop skirt.....use hoop 3 as a separate piece and tie that over your hoop skirt. That one extra hoop at the top will take off some of the weigh of the dress. Trust me. I made a hoop skirt out of hula hoops and duck tape.
I am so shocked you made this video under 20mins for all the work you did! I love watching other people sew projects so I have inspo energy to do my own hahahha
Im working on Lottie as one of my potential cosplays for next year and what I did was I bought the biggest hoopskirt I could find and I sewed multiple hoopskirts to the exterior to make it bigger then I added a built in petticoat to it to smooth out the layers. Basically I frankensteined the hoopskirts together.
We love thrifting, last year I was in drama at my school and I was the lead and I had to get a dress because I didn't have one that fit the character, so I went to my local thrift store and found the most amazing Calvin Klein dress for only $25! Thanks Shay for introducing me to ThreadUp. I will definitely be using it.
The absolute BOOFNESS of the wig sends it over the top!! Can we make BOOFNESS a new thing?
Thank you for this, PATF is my favorite princess movie!!💕🐸👑
The best part of your videos are not just the final result, but the process. It's so beautiful
Love from Ausi 🥰😍
