I actually spent a YEAR doing this as a kid. First Pokedex I ever completed. I'll never forget the friends I traded with both online and in person, playing GBA games to transfer up older Pokemon, participating in every online event, getting all the spinoff games to get the extra legendaries, and even trading from HGSS when that came out for johto mons. If I could relive it all again during that time I would.

We would often trade and visit GameStop together in order to receive the event pokemon from the events. The spinoff games during the ds era where very memorable given how unique they were and how they played a role in obtaining every Pokémon in order to complete the Pokédex. I really miss those times and wish I could relive those times even if it was for only a day.
@@KingZoroark I'm inspired to do a speaking segment in the next video I record talking about this very thing (literally just a low quality vlog at this point LMAO) I have memory problems but using Pokemon and the games I played during all times of my life since I started helps me remember large parts I feel I would otherwise forget. I believe it was discovered that there's a part of the brain dedicated to just Pokemon that has developed in certain children growing up. I'd say mine is well exercised.
Same that's why Gen 4 is my favourite as I finished my first living dex in this game too. Though with some event Pokemon I had help from my brother's friend, I transferred them into the game just to get them on the dex and then traded for them on the GTS. I also got my first Shiny in a copy of Emerald I bought to work on the dex, it was a Tailow. I also got Shuppet and Numel from that game. It was a big journey, though it was mostly on Diamond so even though Platinum is the better game, Diamond was my main. The other thing I loved with doing it, is I didn't ask for these games. I skipped gen 3 outside ROMs because I didn't get a GBA.
@@caitiedid yea I got super lucky with finding my Munchlax trees the crazy part is once you find the tree it spawns at it’s really easy to find just like the feebas tiles in 3rd gen games.
@@SaltedNeos(Pre-Watching) To be fair, if they were from the same tree, then it's much more likely, since chaining honey uses on the same tree gives a good boost to using the same encounter table - so if you a Munchlax, then you're reasonably likely to do it again
It wasn't until ORAS that I finally dedicated myself to obtaining a Living Dex, somehow you made this look like a fun journey, instead of an incredulous grind, and I love that, it made me relive all the good times of the grind, reaching milestones, catching that "one legendary" in a Premier Ball as soon as the encounter starts because "this is the 6th soft reset, idc at this point", something about this video made that whole grind feel a lot more fun.

Spent 940+ hours as a 14 year old trying to finish this via help from my friends, my old gen 1,2,and 3 games, and the GTS. Never got it. I got within 30 left, but was never able to get it. It bothers me to this day 😂
I actually completed this task last year. after spending close to 300 dollars getting all gen 4 games released on the ds, some dns shenanigan's to get the mythicals and even items, watching hours of tutorials to manipulate the HG/SS safari zone Pokémon spawns. it was a proud moment that i will never do that again
I completed a shiny only nuzlocke on my Heartgold and started doing a shiny living dex challenge on it . I’ve used the cute charm glitch, RNG manipulation and the tweaking glitch and currently I am about 370/493. I had to replay games to get all starters and buy a copy of Diamond to do the tweaking glitch to get Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus. The biggest challenge so far is how I’m gonna get Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, the Regis, Manaphy and Phione all shiny.
@@justinhamilton8647 I know of a glitch known as ASE in the DPP games that allows me to get a shiny manaphy egg guaranteed. I’m just not sure exactly how to do it and not even sure if I will do it as it is very complex. And there’s also a battle corruption glitch that should theoretically let me obtain all the other mythicals.
Can we take a moment to acknowledge how many variations of pokeball and items you’d have to grind for along the way if you planned on catching/evolving some of the legendaries and rarer random mons haha? Great video, great channel!

from memory, I feel like Pokemon Black and White 2 is harder due to the need and hurdle of transfering pokemon from the honen line to platnium, then to the heart gold and soul silver games and then to the B&W games haha

Doing the platinum dex has been a dream of mine, I’ve got platinum, pearl, heart gold and soul silver, and I’ve got fire red, leaf green, and emerald on my gba
I just got done completing it myself. You will need Diamond to get Stunky. Thankfully diamond/pearl are the cheapest gen 4 games. I had to buy soul silver for $130
I spent like 15 months on a gen 1-6 living natdex in 2016-2018. And that was with the help of the GTS (but I re-bred everything so it had my own OT). I can’t imagine doing this without internet connection
I did this a while back. Back in 2018 I did it in Diamond. I've since sold that copy of a game, sold it to a CeX shop (yeah I know). I only really remember using thief to get trade evo items and not being able to get Mew. iirc Mew was the only pokémon I didn't obtain in the end. I used ruby, sapphire, emerald, colosseum, fire red, diamond, platinum and soul silver.
Been trying to get the shiny charm in black 2, actually isn't too bad to complete that dex. All I'm missing for it is tornadus and landorus, and for mythicals all I would need if I wanted to truly complete it is mew, celebi, jirachi, manaphy, phione, keldeo, and genesect. I really wish they made mythicals more accessible in older gens, but at least for some of the gen 4 ones you're able to catch them by bike tweaking in the void to encounter darkrai, shaymin, and arceus
@@trinxty6099 none of them are needed for the shiny charm since they're mythicals, but I still managed to get them anyways by using the bike tweaking glitch in gen 4 that lets you go into the void and bike to the areas of those pokemon
I've been doing this myself over the past like year, i've been trying to do it mostly legit but have used some cheats since I don't have all of the games, such as using cheats to get the Purugly and Skuntank lines without having to buy repros of Diamond and Pearl, cheating in the event Regigigas so I could catch the Regi Trio and then get the actual legit Regigigas, cheating in other event items like the Azur Flute and Oak's Letter and the Hotel card, stuff like that. I also said "screw that" with the munchlax hunt and just decided to trade over Snorlax from my repro copy of Heartgold and breeding him, Murcrow and Misdrevous were also traded from HG.
A small bit of criticism from me. I wanted to get into this video, however the phrasing for catching Pokemon felt super repetitive after about 7 minutes in. I don't think its deal breaking or anything, but in future videos, it might help to try not phrasing every capture almost exactly the same as the previous one.
May i ask how long did it took to find all fossils? I've been looking for kabuto and lileep for months now and i'm finding literally everything you can find on the underground except for these two fossils. Am i just having really bad luck or do i need to do something in scepecific to find these two?
No it's luck based. The only exception to this is the skull fossil being available in Pokemon pearl and the armor fossil being available in Pokemon Diamond, since Craniados and Sheildon are version exclusives. If your playing Platinum, it's tied to your trainer ID making one of them unavailable in your game.

I was mad I couldn't use a fire besides infernape and begged for a cool fire type on serebii chat. @@JoshuaTonna Yes, however for Jirachi and Celibi it requires the Japanesse and American Pokemon Collosseum bonus disc. For Deoxys you can buy an event distrobution cart for the event item.
This is what triggers me so much They diddnt mega evolve the Starters in the Remakes thats OK they diddnt do a Story expension in the Remakes thats OK But they could have at least Made all the Event Pokemon from Back than catchable Like thats the Minimum but nope they had again a whole Thing in the Game locker behind an online Event thats even worse because you cant get the distribution cards for These Events because they are online 😭 Like wtf where they thinking
@@Mert_ens17 always actually once you defeat the Elite 4 and obtain the national dex you can insert a gba Pokémon Cartridge into the bottom of a ds and both haunter and gengar will appear in the old château only in the room with red eyes on the wall. Keep in mind that gengar has a 1% encounter rate.

I'm super close to completing the Gen 4 national dex believe it or not. I still need Pearl exclusive Pokémon so that I can trade it to my Platinum copy and be done with it once and for all. Oh yeah I also forgot the Regi trio🤦♂️.
Well good luck on you platinum national dex the Regis can be tricky if you don’t have a copy of the gen 3 games but if you can use the dns exploit I would recommend that instead.

I finally obtained all 493 after having the same save for 10 years
I completed my Pokédex as a kid & my uncle released my starter so I reset my game. I still regret it to to this day.

Im trying to complete the Pokedex on the remake diamond but stuck on a trouble we cant get celebi and Deoxys
I thought you get drifloon after the first mars battle but it shows you defeating her after the drifloon capture and you only get one but on a Friday.

@@JoshuaTonna Yes, however for Jirachi and Celibi it requires the Japanesse and American Pokemon Collosseum bonus disc. For Deoxys you can buy an event distrobution cart for the event item.

@@Mert_ens17 always actually once you defeat the Elite 4 and obtain the national dex you can insert a gba Pokémon Cartridge into the bottom of a ds and both haunter and gengar will appear in the old château only in the room with red eyes on the wall. Keep in mind that gengar has a 1% encounter rate.
The multiples of any Pokémon does not end in an S. It's just the standard name. For example multiple goldduck are goldduck not goldducks.

I'm super close to completing the Gen 4 national dex believe it or not. I still need Pearl exclusive Pokémon so that I can trade it to my Platinum copy and be done with it once and for all.

Well good luck on you platinum national dex the Regis can be tricky if you don’t have a copy of the gen 3 games but if you can use the dns exploit I would recommend that instead.
