I really didn't understand in previous videos why you wanted to avoid this video. I soon played Heartgold for myself, and I realized the horror. For example, I learned that I needed to wait real 100 days to get a Gible in the safari zone. Props to you Chaotic, keep up the good work.
TopHatBear I assume HeartGold and SoulSilver have the same mechanic that Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum have where if you try to push your clock forward to speed up timed events then it will disable all timed events for 24 hours.

Hah, I started on this challenge with the Storm Silver romhack. It involves evolving a tyranitar and a dragonite before the first gym. I stopped after the tyranitar (and had already encountered my first shiny by then). Imagine grinding a larvitar to 55 on level 11-13 mareeps and ekans'...
@@shuckle9529 doesn't take away the fact that you encounter some pretty ridiculous pokemon before the first badge in storm silver. Like I said, you can find larvitar and dratini (among a ton of other shit you need to evolve) before the first gym. That means you have to evolve a tyranitar and dragonite and a lot more before you can even beat falkner. I think just getting past the first gym in storm silver is going to take longer than finishing the entire challenge in HGSS. For the record that savegame with my tyranitar before falkner is at 38 hours and 19 minutes ingame time. Double that to get the dragonite as well. Then you're stuck with all of the other pokemon you still need to evolve before even hitting the first gym. Yeah.
Having dragonite before Whitney is absolutely hilarious. So many props to you on this. I can’t even imagine your patience with this: I came back to edit my comment because I felt inspired by this. And to make my life harder. I prepped my offical oak challenge with eggs of every single starter. I bred 9 different eggs including sinnoh so I’ll be picking chicorita with eggs of all the others. Post red I’ll get squirtle and torchic to cap it off.

Astounding how you can pretty much catch almost all of the Pokémon at the time on one cartridge. How has there been not been a single game that at least gets close to that number without some shenanigans around it (though go head and correct me if I’m wrong bout that). Pretty much proves how much dedication been put in this game and challenge. Nice going
I gave that POC a shot. It's miserable. Especially since the EXP changes. Plus you also need to get at least 1 Pickup Lillipup to 41 for the Sun Stone pre badge 1 - where the highest level mons are 5/6 so after level 20 you get about 10exp per battle. I gave up when I had my game crash and lose the save data

This was insanely informative, and I'm glad to see there's an entire side category made up of one of my favorite self-pacing challenges from when I was a kid. I loved doing this with Yellow and my original copy of Silver.

When i was 12, i didnt yet have a phone, only a 3DS, but the 3DS was connected to wi-fi, so I could have an access to limited content, so i mainly used it for guides one time, and i so happened to stumble upon this video, and I watched it, ever since then ive been watching and loving all your content, love your vids, dude
To give you an idea of how insane that dex total is I’m gonna bring out percentages. In Generation IV there’s a total of 493 Pokémon. 373/493 equals roughly 75.66% In other words with just a single cartridge of Heartgold you can obtain a little more than three quarters of the Pokémon that existed at the time. If you had used the Poké walker the total would’ve been 394 or 79.92% of the Pokémon that existed at the time
If u have a 3gen card and maybe eventually a gen4 diamond or perl I think u don't need platinum for anything else but donno if u have these I think ur really good around all of em and if u do the wifi events via DNS servers u can actually optain alot of mythicals and legendarys so maybe u can get even more than 400

As frustrating as it would be to have to wait a month to be able to evolve pokemon, i feel like i wish those type of grinds were in Sword and Shield. It honestly doesn't take that long to complete the dex, nothing really to do now beyond shiny hunting.
@@kitsunelynchwood5637 catch one then infect as many pokemon as possible. there rarer than shines and you could faint/run from one since you don't see it has pokerus unless you catch it. I've gotten some pokemon through GTS with pokerus but they were always "cured" (meaning it can't infect anyone else.)
Here’s a tip (even though it will only save a few seconds at the start), pick the female character. When playing as the male character, the female shows you how to catch Pokémon, she goes into the grass once and “fights” a Pokémon before showing you again how to fight one. When playing as the female character, the male goes strait into how to catch a Pokémon instead of screwing around.

I love the poc challenges what I'd love would be some stats next to the time spent, but like how many pokeballs you used or how many rarecandys it needed as that would give it some perspective:D
The fact that this man took on this challenge is an honorable act in itself but looking at how he had to restart mid way, and start all over and he still had determination is god tier.
HOW YOU PROBABLY LOST YOUR PROGRESS TRANSFERRING TO A NEW PC: If you're using Demume, you have your .nds file (which is your base ROM), but in the "Battery" folder of desmume program folder there are all of the .dsv files. If you change the name of the .nds file/bring it to a new PC without also transferring/renaming that corresponding .dsv file, YOU WILL LOSE ALL SAVE DATA. In other words: the "save game" feature doesn't save progress to the .nds file, but instead onto the .dsv file in "battery," so make sure to transfer that dsv file next time too. p.s. you the dsv and nds files have to have the exact same name (caps differences i believe are okay) in order for the nds file to read the correct dsv save file.
Started completing the pokedex for fun and completionist mentality Currently 359/371 (soulsilver) I must say that catching the Beldum in the safary zone and waiting for Luvdisc to appear in swarm (almost 40 days of checking still no signs) were/are the most painful thing of this run

Playing this game as a kid i was only concerned about beating it... but this... this makes me want to go back and try to complete the pokedex. I mean i didnt even know you could catch kyogre in this! When i was 12, i didnt yet have a phone, only a 3DS, but the 3DS was connected to wi-fi, so I could have an access to limited content, so i mainly used it for guides one time, and i so happened to stumble upon this video, and I watched it, ever since then ive been watching and loving all your content, love your vids, dude
I had never heard of a POC before, and now I want to watch you do all the main line games!
To give you an idea of how insane that dex total is I’m gonna bring out percentages.
In Generation IV there’s a total of 493 Pokémon. 373/493 equals roughly 75.66%
In other words with just a single cartridge of Heartgold you can obtain a little more than three quarters of the Pokémon that existed at the time.
If you had used the Poké walker the total would’ve been 394 or 79.92% of the Pokémon that existed at the time
If u have a 3gen card and maybe eventually a gen4 diamond or perl I think u don't need platinum for anything else but donno if u have these I think ur really good around all of em and if u do the wifi events via DNS servers u can actually optain alot of mythicals and legendarys so maybe u can get even more than 400
I'm soon hitting 200 mons rn cuz I do this myself but not in a oak challange but I still fill it and this video and the guides are very useful

As frustrating as it would be to have to wait a month to be able to evolve pokemon, i feel like i wish those type of grinds were in Sword and Shield. It honestly doesn't take that long to complete the dex, nothing really to do now beyond shiny hunting.

@@kitsunelynchwood5637 catch one then infect as many pokemon as possible. there rarer than shines and you could faint/run from one since you don't see it has pokerus unless you catch it. I've gotten some pokemon through GTS with pokerus but they were always "cured" (meaning it can't infect anyone else.)

Here’s a tip (even though it will only save a few seconds at the start), pick the female character. When playing as the male character, the female shows you how to catch Pokémon, she goes into the grass once and “fights” a Pokémon before showing you again how to fight one. When playing as the female character, the male goes strait into how to catch a Pokémon instead of screwing around.

HOW YOU PROBABLY LOST YOUR PROGRESS TRANSFERRING TO A NEW PC:
If you're using Demume, you have your .nds file (which is your base ROM), but in the "Battery" folder of desmume program folder there are all of the .dsv files. If you change the name of the .nds file/bring it to a new PC without also transferring/renaming that corresponding .dsv file, YOU WILL LOSE ALL SAVE DATA. In other words: the "save game" feature doesn't save progress to the .nds file, but instead onto the .dsv file in "battery," so make sure to transfer that dsv file next time too.
p.s. you the dsv and nds files have to have the exact same name (caps differences i believe are okay) in order for the nds file to read the correct dsv save file.

I must say that catching the Beldum in the safary zone and waiting for Luvdisc to appear in swarm (almost 40 days of checking still no signs) were/are the most painful thing of this run
