I just want to correct one thing. There is a ninja reference in Mahogany town. The secret shop which is basically the entrance to the Johto Rocket HQ has a hidden staircase found and revealed by Lance. Real life Ninjas during their time actually uses a hidden trap door underneath the tatami or the thin wooden floor of their houses as a means of hiding weapons or connected to an underground tunnel as a means of fast escape. What do we see under the secret shop? Its not a tunnel but it is similar to the concept of a hidden path underneath. The game only used a stair sprite to help the player indicate that you could access it. Furthermore, remember the trap floor where you encounter a bunch of Koffings? Ninjas are well adept on using explosions, smokes and poisons as a means of distraction to help them escape. Koga uses Weezing because not only Weezing is a poison type, it also produces smoke which Ninjas love to use to escape. I kept saying escape I know. Ninja's main objective during their time was merely to spy and to gather info. They are never meant to fight or to kill. They only fight and kill as a last resort since if they fought and/or killed someone, it would leave a huge mark of their precense within the enemy territory. Something a ninja always avoids in a mission. (I learned all of this from Gaijin Goomba.)
6:18 I'm actually a little disappointed. When naming the Rival, the guide states "- so go ahead and say what it is." CLEARLY, the intention was to canonically name the Rival "what it is", in all lower-case, just as his father intended. Though I'm pretty sure spacing would need some liberties based on Rival naming limitations.
If I remember correctly, there was a whole other part two guide for the Kanto post game. It was a lot thicker I if memory serves because it had the national dex.
Ever since I played gold/silver as a kid, Heracross has been my favorite Pokemon. And yeah, he's a champ in gen 2 and gen 6, no one picked up on it then because bug types were garbage in gen 1.

This is the first of these you've done that I have the guide for as well. I really loved this one as a kid, especially the pokedex in the back of the book
Can't wait for Beating Life the way this world intended
Seeing you use brick break on Whitney’s clefairy confused me because I forgot fairy didn’t exist yet. That’s my main problem going back through the older games. Forgetting the fairy type Pokémon are just normal types
Fun fact: in the Pokémon Adventures manga, Morty has two Misdreavus
Gen 1 and Gen 2 will always be my favorites
Time for my not important random comment: If you want a good nickname for Drifloon/Difblim, try naming in “Goosebump”.
The rival when you named him ‘rival’:
“It’s like...I was made for this”
“You are challenged by rival rival!”
29:08 my dad did this when he first played this game, he was devastated
Your Totodile reminded me to subscribe. even though I thought I was already
I remember in Gold the text says you saw “???’s” name. So thats what 7 year old me named my rival. Good ole ???
So good to know I was not the only one!
5:10 That is the single best sentence I've seen in any guide ever.
I've watched so many of these videos by you right now I finally decided to hammer away at that subscribe button. Great videos man, having some good laughs in between here. Keep laying down the law and dispatching your enemies. And don't forget to Hammer Away.
Thanks
thank you!
Oh my, I forgot I have that guide, haha.
The hype was real when I snatched the game. I replayed it last year and might do it again.
So glad you had the music in the background just so nostalgic love Johto music
I see a new video, I instantly hammer away the like button and comment. Thanks for all you do, PaPaSea!
(I learned all of this from Gaijin Goomba.)
when i first played gold and silver, i explored the herb shop and touched EVERYTHING. thats how i found out how to turn off the statue
6:18 I'm actually a little disappointed.
When naming the Rival, the guide states "- so go ahead and say what it is."
CLEARLY, the intention was to canonically name the Rival "what it is", in all lower-case, just as his father intended.
Though I'm pretty sure spacing would need some liberties based on Rival naming limitations.
Everyone is demanding unova remakes while hgss haven't been remakes for like 12 yrs
What if Gen 2 was remade, but it was a Let's go game?
But hgss WERE the remakes? Unless you’re wanting like a Let’s Go style switch game?
facts been saying this gen 2 is next in line for remakes unova stans need to stfu
@@32rush79 no need to be so worked up about this.
Just asks our fellow Gen 4 fans
@@32rush79 unova came out 11 years ago
6:00 It says "Lyra/Ethan" referring to the NPC, not the player character.
The HGSS guide is actually in two different parts! I only have the book that goes with the Kanto Region :’ )
I only have the book that was used in the video
Recently went on a binge of these vids, great to see another one out now as well. Keep up the awesome work
"I picked totodile for no real reason"
Me: "Failure! FAILIURE! YOU FAILED ME! I DISOWN YOU!"
Picking Totodile over my actual son. The nerve...
If I remember correctly, there was a whole other part two guide for the Kanto post game. It was a lot thicker I if memory serves because it had the national dex.
31:04 It's because of 'No Guard' the move Rock Slide hit
These are my fav games! Thank you so much for doing this
Ever since I played gold/silver as a kid, Heracross has been my favorite Pokemon. And yeah, he's a champ in gen 2 and gen 6, no one picked up on it then because bug types were garbage in gen 1.
Oh man! I have that guide! I don't remember why I wanted it so much, because at the time i got it, I already had access to the internet.
I remember the highest consecutive level I ever got in voltorb flip was 31. It takes actual mathematical reasoning.
Damn and I thought I was cool for getting to level 8. I always end up with a 50/50 scenario between the last 4 cards, 2 are multipliers and 2 are voltorbs, and just have to hope I guess right.
@@jordanlindsey4299 sometimes it's a coin flip like that, but that's a rather rare circumstance. If that happened to you at lvl 8, you just had a run of bad luck. I will say though that getting to lvl 31 and losing made it so much more bitter than sweet.
I could've sworn there were only 7 or 8 levels. I played the heck outta that game and I never remember it getting into the double digits
I've never gotten over 8 or 10. My brain sucks.
There is no level higher than 8.
