- It's finally here folks, a ROM hack Professor Oak's Challenge! It's been highly requested, so I figured I'd start it out in one of the hardest ROM hacks I've ever played, and I hope you enjoy. It's definitely the hardest POC I've done so far, but that doesn't mean there's harder ones out there. In fact, request them down below, I'm always open to new ROM hacks and fangames!

Emerald Kaizo: Have you ever lost your sanity over cancerous battles, catching legendaries that will flee or explode because you looked at them funny, and having to evolve high level pokemon in the same game?
Chaotic: No

try telling that to theta emerald, nice difficulty progression but insane and i mean insane pokemon catching per route, until u get pass a few gyms 13 new encounters per route, some of which being starters, i forget the earliest pseudo though

Try playing it with hardcore nuzlocke rules besides allowing potions because it would be impossible
That Wynaut grind is hilarious, considering Wobbofett is super common as a wild encounter later on in the game

Fair but also it's with the intent of getting ALL possible pokemon before being able to continue, so they had to do so
That’s why I’ve never understood poc challenges. Looking at it logically professor oak would rather you fill the Pokédex as quickly as possibly rather than how the RUclipsrs do it. If you can can a larvitar, pupitar, and tyranitar in 1 place for each of them then oak would rather have you catch one of each than grinding a larvitar into a tyranitar off of level 10 Pokémon and wasting time.

rival: "you should try and catch more pokemon!"
May must've been doing the Professor Birch's Challenge this whole time. But then again, you'd think we'd run into her with a powerful Pokemon and a bunch of Linoones at one point. I guess she didn't know about the Pickup strat.
@superlombax1561 sadly pickup doesn't exist in Kaizo ;-; I'm attempting this noe myself
I got tired from listening to the catches massive respect for this guy going through this
He didn't mention that, for extra annoyance, no Pokémon can have Pickup, Flash Fire or Damp. (The last one would be VERY useful for legendaries due to them having Selfdestruct/Explosion)

you know what's ironic? the fact that getting every pokemon in this game to level 100 would be less mind straining than doing the POC
You have to get a team of level 100s to defeat the game, of course grinding every Pokémon in Emerald Kaizo to level 100 is more tolerable than finding every Pokémon in Emerald Kaizo

By every do you mean *just* your party, or do you literally mean *every* pokemon?
Because the latter is contradicting.
@@thewanderinggamer1369 Not necessarily contradictory, even if they did mean all 386 Pokémon in the game. If you put off the evolutions until you get to the Pokémon League (where you can buy Rare Candies for a very low price), you can just spam Rare Candies on everything. Meanwhile, in the Professor Oak challenge, you have to do all the level grinding manually because you have to do every evolution as soon as physically possible.
Especially since you have to get and grind over half the dex on level 12 pokemon
Renegade Platinum might be similar but it’ll also be fun to watch.

I’m doing it right now currently at the second badge and it’s actually kinda fun, the grinding isn’t too bad and you have a lot of freedom on how to approach things + documentation is really good.
Toughest thing was to get linoones up to a good level to grind rare candies. Before badge one
The chansey trainer is a good speed boost when leveling them up

I'd love to see you do a POC in Altered Emerald. It's not a difficulty hack, just an enhancement hack of Emerald. There are new places to explore, wild Starter Pokemon, Quality of Life changes, and so much more. The story was altered and NPCs have witty dialogue (hint: talk to an NPC in their house in Mauville, pay attention to Maqua's dialogue because they all have some interesting things to say).
It's not finished and there are still a few bugs, but it's an incredible game that is fairly popular for a reason. And this is coming from a person who wasn't too big on gen 3.

Balls and Dick, how is the HG/SS so bad? I got all my gen 2 dex filled with SS but never tried Oak's Challenge
@@carlrygwelski586 The safari zone is the big problem because there's a ton of Pokemon to catch. Not only that, but a handful of them are very labor intensive and pretty confusing to encounter. Check out his Oak's challenge for HG/SS because it's very impressive that it was completed

So I went to Route 101 to try to catch some pokemon in Emerald Kaizo
my first encounter was a pichu
not kidding
I am having really weird luck in emerald kaizo. I find all of the rare 1% chance pokemon really quickly without trying. But then i get destroyed in every trainer battle because my attacks miss every single time.
Same actually Ive found multiple. I think minun is the rare one

Would you consider formatting the Dex Total like x/xxx instead of just x? It’s makes it easier to understand how close you are to the end of the game for people who aren’t as familiar with how many Pokémon there are in each Pokédex.

These challenges are amazing to watch because of the sheer effort it takes to complete them. Chaotic is out here levelling up everything to evolve it meticulously while I barged into Lance's chambers in HGSS with a team that's ten levels lower than his because I REFUSED to lose my mind grinding them up. That's why I liked Audino grinding in gen 5.
Also I'm laughing at how a level 14 Shuckle survived crunch from a level 45 Steelix with a little less than half HP. Shuckle. you KING
Tbf, crunch is special in gen 3 and I think Shuckle's hp is boosted
The key for this pokemon kaizo gridding is:
“sweet scent” by bellspout leaning at lever 12,Early game at petalburg woods by lever 8.
“teleport” by Ralt learning at lever 9,Early game at route 112 by lever 4 or 6.
Yeah that's what I did and posted on reddit back in March or Feb
I actually leveled a mawile for sweet scent, still in the party cause goddamn i love the low encounter rates but sometimes i don t :)
I think a Fool's Gold Professor Oaks challenge would be really cool, personally.

I was just thinking the other day "Huh, wonder how a POC would go for this game..." AND NOW THAT I SEE IT, I didn't have a clue prior that it was gonna be this crazy! The creator sure likes their late evolutions! I commend you for beating the game AND finishing the dex!!!!

I restarted my pokemon emerald and did the zigzagoon party with pickup thanks to watching your emerald oak challenge, it made my playthrough much more enjoyable having all of the extra items :) Subbed today!

You should do Sacred Gold/Storm Silver or Blaze Black 2/Volt White 2. They are similar to Renegade Platinum, as they are also made by Drayano.
Matthew Ross he blocks off some area due to story and whatnot occurring back there. Or you are able to acquire Pokémon that are too strong for the point of the game that you are at currently, it’s not unnecessary although there are some easy workarounds
I know that there's an upcoming version of SG/SS 2.0, with fairy type and other stuff
I'm doing a storm silver poc rn and it's pretty fun, I'm almost done with section 1
Sacred gold really isn't that bad, after Bugsy anyway. The first section will make you murderous though. No safari zone alone makes it worth it, but also higher wild levels for grinding, better movesets available for the same

Pretty sure the regis were catchable after getting Dive. I used one of em to challenge the E4. Might have played an older version though and an update patched it.

you should do radical red, theres a level cap before each gym so it would be weird but it would be interesting to see!
I'm so used to hardcore nuzlockes in this game that it feels weird that you're catching multiple pokemon in each route, overlevelling and stuff

In a way this brings back memories, when I was young I had a rom hack of Emerald that allowed me to obtain all 386 Pokémon, though they're found in different areas compared to Kaizo Emerald
I found out how to make infinite money is Emerald Kaizo. You go to the first city. You catch a slugma. You take his fire stone. You sell the stone(1 fire stone=1050).
Or use thief, which you get in slateport museum

On the topic of roms and stuff, I think a Professor Oak Challenge of Pokémon Insurgence would be pretty cool
Imagine, Prof. Oak's Challenge, but randomizer is on...
Depending on the type of randomizer, you can figure out what each encounter slot randomizes to and use that to know when you’re done.
That would be a nightmare if it was something like a Drayton hack
