this is pretty much how i play every pokemon game. team of 5. no starters. mono-types only. my last pearl team was Floatzel, Carnivine, Kricketune, Mismagius, and Lopunny. nice vid!
As someone whose favorite Pokemon of all time is Purugly, I'm glad to see her shine in a video. I make a conscious effort to take one to the Pokemon league in every game theyre in.
Love seeing this as i love using more unconventional teams that arent necessarily bad but are comprised of mons you dont see that often. Im sick of seeing the standard starter/staraptor/luxray/floatzel/garchomp/lucario team lol. Gimme PorygonZ, Rampardos, Octillery, Medicham (which btw are all insanely fun to use, def recommend), just whatever random mon that at least doesnt have Kricketune level garbage stats and movepool lol. I replay Platinum a lot, always ditch the starter, and the game has a great variety of pokemon that allows for a fun unique team for many, MANY playthroughs. Cant say the same for HGSS; i struggled making a team for my bloody second playthrough that i liked! Edit: i think of the team you used, i only wouldnt use Pachirisu and male Combee. I dislike Pachirisu as a pokemon and Combee is just too garbage man, props for sticking with it lmao. Would use Purugly but its not available normally, have used Chatot and Carnivine, and plan on using Lumineon for either my next playthrough or the one after.
Oh yeah, Lumineon is definitely worth the grab, such a solid mon but I completely agree. I love the odd mons, there's a few that I wish I could have on the team as auxiliary mons, but that makes the video a little too bulky
actually that pretty good idea! Mostly sinnoh teams are the same. for remakes i made a team with Drapion, Vespiquen, Mamoswine, Yanmega, Torterra and Abomasnow and i thought i had pretty unsual team. You proved me wrong
No yours is still pretty unusual compared to what generally exists, I like all of the gen 4, 3rd generation mons so like Magmortar and Electivire, I just wish they woulda added a jynx one
@@shoopwoop3470The reason she didn't get one? It's the racism. They got bullied for 'blackface' in the anime (despite it being its own _harajuku_ parody instead) and thus, despite being a Fire-Electric-Ice trio in gens I & II, the pattern *didn't* hold into Sinnoh, and they gave the cool-lookin' _Yuki-onna_ design to... uh, Snorunt?? When Glalie is already fine???
Yea , Ive got some longer stuff in the works, but I just know that runs through the main franchise have been so done to death, that I'd hate to waste people's time lol
This is one of the games I've never finished (my ds is currently dead, but I'm thinking on fixing it and finishing kid me's runs) so I didn't really know which Pokémon were good or not. That said, I truly haven't seen a playthrough with them, so it was nice seeing some new faces. Your comments about why you like this game and how it felt different playing with a "bad" team were really nice, I really enjoyed the video! ALSO, THE DEDICATION TO FIGHT CYNTHIA SO MANY TIMES OMG
Awesome, thanks homie!! yeah I was yelling at my computer, I think I had a sore throat the next day and when my coworkers asked me why I had no good reason to tell them, cause they don't play Pokemon
im enjoying this series greatly! in the future, once you've done all the games, i wonder if the idea of running back this series but with the runner-ups and other underused pokemon sounds doable. Newer strategies, more light on some lowkey pokemon and what not.
So yea - I was thinking of releasing a "the movie" with all of the episodes compiled, but that felt too lazy, so I'll probably make one with the doubles so - illumise instead of Volbeat- and take a bunch of suggestions, and put it all together.
I personally really like Purugly, think it stems from Mars feeding my Pokemon their own teeth with hers the first time I ever played a Pokemon game (Pearl). Made me respect it thanks to being a pretty effective beef gate. Anyways, can't get enough of it, love to see it.
I used a Lumineon once when I was a kid in Pokémon Battle Revolution. I didn’t know how to bring mons from DPP so I just used rental teams and in one of the stadiums you could trade mons with the opponents permanently. I had never seen Lumineon before so I traded it and beat the game with it. I didn’t get to the super bosses of course but the regular game was very fun and I kind of have a soft spot for it in spite of never really seeing outside of being the forgotten Pokémon. Platinum is still to this day my favorite game and I use Lumineon from time to time even though it’s not that good. Thank you for reminding me of one of my childhood favorites
extremely solid video overlooking some kinda laggy gameplay which you already acknowledged (and honestly isnt that servere anyway, just enough to comment on). nice to see some carnivine love too. good work, earned a sub
Yeah, I'm looking at new emulators for it, I think I fixed most of the bugs for an upcoming video, but I think the problem is emulator plus my crappy computer. It's an all-in-one and I can't afford an upgrade atm- I think I'm just gonna try to have to edit it to where I get the scenes with not as much lag, but it's certainly frustrating because sometimes I can't tell if the lag is from my video editing software or just how OBS recorded
loll thanks, when I look into making the team I go with my personal experience, and then look at the dex and see what's there and it just really stood out
Awesome, yea I'm always a little worried about the pacing, I try to keep em concise, cause everyone's seen a playthrough of most of the games at this point
I am actually playing through Pearl right now with a male combee!! Its one of my favorite pokemon so I wanted to use one. Great video - hope to see more from you!
Definitely a new unique take, you usually see people who do these ridiculous hard challenges that make no sense, this one uses the OG game and just picks pokemon that are tricky, awesome concept would love to see a black and white version
Carnivine is actually my favourite grass type from gen 4. Even tho he’s really weak, i have a soft spot for his design and i hope he can get some more recognition someday
you - are totally right, this comment section has let me know a ton haha, yea I get the rivals confused in my head after silver honestly they kinda blur. They're all energetic copies of each other. I guess Wally is actually different too, but Barry onward and they feel kinda meh imo. But yea just an honest mistake on my part lol
Really cool video! Also, I may try to use that shiny method when I play through platinum. It would be awesome if you named a pokemon after me in one of your videos. (Especially a Ground, Grass or Dragon Type)
Best intro I've ever seen in my life. Bro praised our lord and great creator Bidoof, complimented my favourite starter and Pokemon of all time, and ofc... *Void Pancake* 🥞🔥
hahaaa thanks man! I do remember as a kid thinking that the graphics were awesome, but new games have ruined my perception of the older ones, so now... void pancake
On my first playthrough, I used Carnivine and Chatot for my Elite Four run. On my first run with Torterra (second overall), I used Mantine... as a special watermon with Water Absorb. Ended up switching it out for Bibarel after making it to the Elite Four.
@shoopwoop3470 With actual Pokémon strategy it's... fine. Like a less effective Skarmory that is weak to really common types like Rock and Electric. But it's not unusable.
When I bought White 2 when it first came out over a decade ago, I used a Maractus since I thought it was such a cute design. Turns out, it was actually very powerful for a Grass type.
this reminded me so badly of the times I replayed Pokemon diamond with new teams each time I still very vividly remember a run I only used blue pokemon on mixing up the pokemon to use always makes it a good time
I just realized that "Goku" Infernape and "Vegeta" Luxray are the aces (sub-aces in Platinum) of Flint and Volkner, two major trainers that were rivals. I dunno if that was intentional on Game Freak or your end, but that's still pretty cool.
As someone who's used Bastiodon before, I feel ya. That thing took forever to train up. I did actually use Biberal one time recently not as an hm slave, and it was a ton of fun. It put in work early and late in the game, but slows down a lot during the ghost, water, and fighting gyms
@@shoopwoop3470 Well besides that, it held its own better than I thought it would. Water type for Byron, and teach it Iron Tail for Candice if needed. And then pretty much use it as you did with Lumineon in the E4
absolutely, I almost didn't include him because James has one in the anime, but I figured that he isn't as iconic as victreebell in that regard so I felt like it was a safe choice
I've got a few in the works, but I'm working on this stupidly long project right now, so it might be another week or so before I can drop another video
Great video, hope you keep it up. Probably isnt the content for me though, was looking for playthroughs to watch whilst being on another tab and your content seams to rely a lot on visuals, especially when you literally mentioned the part about not saying whats on the screen and to use our eyes. Sort of skipped off to another video when the music started. Anyway, came back to leave a comment for the algorithm and all that, and to mention that your story you went into about your own time playing platimum was fun, same with your sense of humour.
@@shoopwoop3470 Play to play style, yeah, I think that would be a better way to describe it. Something that doesn't need me to be tabbing back into to be kept up with what's actually happening. Despite not being on the screen, I'm able to actually follow along with everything.
@@coloureve9433 def worth considering, idk it's hard just cause I know most have played against the e4 in most of these things and it feels repetitive to say, But then I beat it with this idk it's something to work on for sure
@@shoopwoop3470 Shouldn't need to. Just keep pumping out the content that comes naturally to you. It's fine not catering to everyone. There are others they can jump to for that, what matters most is creating content that you actually enjoy making. Otherwise it can be very easy to just burn out.
I used Pachirisu in my playthrough of Brilliant Diamond (with an otherwise pretty good team) and he was the only one that could take down Cynthia's Milotic (who almost destroyed my whole run). His thunderbolt was weak but he had super fang and that move was crazy helpful to whittle her Milotic down.
I like doing these kinds of challenges. Find the most difficult team you can, and use that. It makes winning and progressing more rewarding, and you have to be more creative than just using the same Luxray, Infernape, Staraptor, Garchomp, etc team.
@@shoopwoop3470 Yeah. My last run was Torterra (objectively the worst starter, even though he's my favorite of the three), Seaking, Chimecho, Drifblim, Rapidash focusing on it's lower Sp. Atk, and Lopunny. None of them are really "terrible," but they're also not very good compared to what you can get in the game, either. Low/mid power level team.
Great idea for a run, not original but inspired me to attempt a few for myself as I've been on a replay of the entire series using mons I've used less than others, combine that with this and it's a fresh experience.
Poor chatot he didn’t deserve to be here with these bozos. Also you could have had it in eterna city using an in game trade. I love catching a buizel and trading him away for the best gen 4 bird every time I play
WHAT?!!!! I waited so long for Chatot - I play generally in the evenings, so it took me forever to realize that I didn't get him because he was a morning/afternoon bird. I do like learning new things about old-ish games though
Good on you for not using Luxray, Staraptor, and Infernape like every basic person that plays the Sinnoh games. I gotta say, Glameow is a good early pick. I like seeing different teams in the Sinnoh games, especially ones that are generally overlooked. I feel like Lumineon and Purugly are pretty good with the right set up.
Honestly Lumineon was great, water type (aside from the last gym) is just a pretty great type to have in this game, and if you don't have Swampert then Lumineon is a great backup

Because as Karen says "play with the ones you like"
Great video, great commentary, funny and enjoyable. New subscriber unlocked.
Sick! I do love getting achievements!
Several of my favourites are on this team. Good on you for giving them some love
Of course, I've been assured that these mons would absolutely DESTROY a Pokemon competition though
this is pretty much how i play every pokemon game. team of 5. no starters. mono-types only. my last pearl team was Floatzel, Carnivine, Kricketune, Mismagius, and Lopunny. nice vid!
Why a team of 5? Just to kinda prove you can, I think I would die too often lol
My favorite part of this video was that every time male Combee was fighting it just immediately got knocked out. Like comically fast
Yahhhh it was really hard keeping him alive tbh
As someone whose favorite Pokemon of all time is Purugly, I'm glad to see her shine in a video. I make a conscious effort to take one to the Pokemon league in every game theyre in.
That's a wild challenge, that actually sounds kinda fun ngl
Great video! I hope more people find your chanel, so you get more attention.
Hahaa, thanks! I'm still looking to improve where I can, so I think until that happens I'll stay pretty small
Irony is I never had this team xD
I legit thought this was a video with millions views i was suprised when i saw it wasnt! I had a blast watching your video cant wait to see more!!!
Lol I try, we'll get there one day, or at least a few hundred thousand
Great video as always man.
Thanks homie!
Mystery men reference in the first 30 seconds is god tier
lol thanks, such an underrated gem
actually that pretty good idea!
Hope you like gen 5. you won the name lotto
@@shoopwoop3470 proud to witness it. 😙
The “blue skadoo we can too” about killed me cause me and my daughter watch that, you have earned a sub my friend
lol thanks! yea I grew up on that show, that Steve video hit hard a few years back
Great video, i’d personally like to see the videos be longer!
Oh yea Mars's Purugly is just straight up a terror loll
Really enjoyed your style of commentary, keep it up!
Hey thanks! There's definitely some stuff to iron out, but I think I'm trending in a good direction
Of course, warm/cold nostalgia is what I do best!
extremely solid video overlooking some kinda laggy gameplay which you already acknowledged (and honestly isnt that servere anyway, just enough to comment on). nice to see some carnivine love too. good work, earned a sub
The male combee is such a good choice for this run I would have never thought of it
loll thanks, when I look into making the team I go with my personal experience, and then look at the dex and see what's there and it just really stood out
this is so funny to me bc my first ever play through of Diamond i used a chatot pachirisu and combee (albeit it became a vespiquen)
lol, there used to be a rumor that if you beat the e4 with male combee that he'd turn it into vespiking
I did one playthrough using Lumineon just on a whim and I fear it’s become a staple on my sinnoh teams now
It's just too good to pass up if you don't get swampert honestly
Hey man these videos are cool, with the least used mons. Also youre pacing is really good throughout the story of the game not making it too long.
Hey thanks! A playthrough with a single male combee would be rough! Let me know how it goes
Not Chatot being an absolute goat during this gameplay, i love it!
Little fella saved me a lot
I like seeing you use the Alsorans and Region's Finest. It's quite fun
Ofc, - it was legitimately a very fun run for me
Loved the video! Beating this game with some underrated mons was cool to watch
Hey thanks homie, I appreciate the support!
Definitely a new unique take, you usually see people who do these ridiculous hard challenges that make no sense, this one uses the OG game and just picks pokemon that are tricky, awesome concept would love to see a black and white version
Definitely upcoming, but I'm working on a bit of a different project right now
Going with a male Combee is crazy
Yea it was kind of rough at points
Thank you for doing a run that didn’t involve a summary of a story we’ve all hired a million times
Hey no problem, I don't hate the pacing especially since people HAVE played this game a ton
Carnivine is actually my favourite grass type from gen 4. Even tho he’s really weak, i have a soft spot for his design and i hope he can get some more recognition someday
Yea, I hope he gets a mega or something, if Tangela can get one, so should carnivins
Carnivorous plants need a bug eater abilities to make bug do not very effective dmg to them imho
9:15 isn’t his name Barry? Not Wally
you - are totally right, this comment section has let me know a ton haha, yea I get the rivals confused in my head after silver honestly they kinda blur. They're all energetic copies of each other. I guess Wally is actually different too, but Barry onward and they feel kinda meh imo. But yea just an honest mistake on my part lol
@@shoopwoop3470 no hate ofc. I love your videos but I was like errrrm Wally is quiet and Barry is not quiet lol
Yup, this convinced me to go back to Gen 4 again very cozy video thank you
lol thanks, def one of my favorite gens, glad you're gonna give it a go
Really cool video! Also, I may try to use that shiny method when I play through platinum. It would be awesome if you named a pokemon after me in one of your videos. (Especially a Ground, Grass or Dragon Type)
Done, won't be on my most recent video, but I got you on an upcoming one
@@shoopwoop3470 coooool!! I'll be looking forwards to it!
Back when I was a child, I played with a Lumineon as a tribute to my younger sister. That fish carried me through half the league!!!
Glad to hear, that fish IS awesome!!
Yep! I never forgot it! It's been 16 years now since the little fish that could triumphed over Bertha and Flint all by herself!
I liked the concept and your commentary. And the Cynthia fight was basically Fake Out into Hypnosis 😅
Lollll yea that I think was my only win con, maybe flinches and crits too but even at a lower percentage with enough retries I can get a win loll
I remember that fish, even if I may not remember the name because it was the last one I needed to complete my Pokédex back in the day 😂
Hahaha, yea and it's not in an easily memorable place when you first get access to it
No chatot’s pokedex entry is the “people make me say swear words Pokemon”.
oyea you're right
Fun script and great video! Keep going
Hey thanks for the supporrt homie!
On my first playthrough, I used Carnivine and Chatot for my Elite Four run. On my first run with Torterra (second overall), I used Mantine... as a special watermon with Water Absorb. Ended up switching it out for Bibarel after making it to the Elite Four.
I don't think I've every actually used Mantine on a playthrough, might have to give it a go
@shoopwoop3470 With actual Pokémon strategy it's... fine. Like a less effective Skarmory that is weak to really common types like Rock and Electric. But it's not unusable.
Nice team! I always use a Luminneon and Patsurishu on my play through^^
They're definitely awesome! I liked learning how to use em
When I bought White 2 when it first came out over a decade ago, I used a Maractus since I thought it was such a cute design. Turns out, it was actually very powerful for a Grass type.
I'm saaayin - I actually have never beaten B&W2, I've played through all the main stuff, but never the postgame
The three pokemon that you put on the Cover are all one that i love
Lol, I had a few different thumbnails out with different mons on the cover, which ones did you see?
@@shoopwoop3470 lumineon,pachirisu and purugly
Ah okay awesome yea if it was combee i would've been surprised!
there's one clear odd pokémon out here, in that Pachirisu has a VGC world championship to its name
Yeahhh I needed to do more research for the vid, but I do think that even with that the other electric from this gen are more popular
this reminded me so badly of the times I replayed Pokemon diamond with new teams each time
I still very vividly remember a run I only used blue pokemon on
mixing up the pokemon to use always makes it a good time
Oh for sure, it's just a fun way to play, it makes me think of the times that I would imagine myself in the anime, and what Pokemon I might catch
I just realized that "Goku" Infernape and "Vegeta" Luxray are the aces (sub-aces in Platinum) of Flint and Volkner, two major trainers that were rivals. I dunno if that was intentional on Game Freak or your end, but that's still pretty cool.
It was semi-intentional on my end, but that's if it was intentional on GameFreak's end then they are deeper thinkers than I have given them credit for
As someone who's used Bastiodon before, I feel ya. That thing took forever to train up. I did actually use Biberal one time recently not as an hm slave, and it was a ton of fun. It put in work early and late in the game, but slows down a lot during the ghost, water, and fighting gyms
Ooff yea ghost water and fighting would be wiiild, but late game you also have to worry about electric no? Unless it learns some good ground stuff
@@shoopwoop3470 Well besides that, it held its own better than I thought it would. Water type for Byron, and teach it Iron Tail for Candice if needed. And then pretty much use it as you did with Lumineon in the E4
This Vid is cool Dude, Keep Up the Good work :)
Hey thanks for the support homie!!
Carnivine is unironically my favorite pokemon and I'm so glad he made it in here
absolutely, I almost didn't include him because James has one in the anime, but I figured that he isn't as iconic as victreebell in that regard so I felt like it was a safe choice
@shoopwoop3470 I would say he's underrated but he really isn't lmao, great video overall!
Grass-type Levitate is swag.
Such a fun idea!! I always forget I love Finneon!!!
It's just a little inconvenient to remember where it is, but past that it's an awesome mon
Pokemon Platinum is my favourite one. I hope you do more videos about newer pokemon games too.
I've got a few in the works, but I'm working on this stupidly long project right now, so it might be another week or so before I can drop another video
Commenting for engagement, amazing video😎
Awesome thanks for the support!!
Hmm okay, yea I get that, but are you saying more like play by play style or what?
@@shoopwoop3470 Play to play style, yeah, I think that would be a better way to describe it. Something that doesn't need me to be tabbing back into to be kept up with what's actually happening. Despite not being on the screen, I'm able to actually follow along with everything.
@@coloureve9433 def worth considering, idk it's hard just cause I know most have played against the e4 in most of these things and it feels repetitive to say,
But then I beat it with this idk it's something to work on for sure
@@shoopwoop3470 Shouldn't need to. Just keep pumping out the content that comes naturally to you. It's fine not catering to everyone. There are others they can jump to for that, what matters most is creating content that you actually enjoy making. Otherwise it can be very easy to just burn out.
That’s funny , I used all these pokemon in my main teams LMAO
Have you really?? a Male combee in a main team is wiiild, but power to ya
Male combee is a step too far man
I played Shining Perl with Kricketune, Seaking, Medicham, Purrugly, Torterra and Honchkrow.
It was a bit hard sometimes but I had a lot of fun!
Wowwww what a team, that is definitely not an often used lineup
I always liked Lumineon, it's a lame that Pokémon was so forgotten
Had the same problem with Seaking, it's like just a fish, but it's so so cool though lol
This has mad potential dude
Thanks homie!! I sure hope so, current vids taking a while, but it's a little bit different in concept
Ben Askren got the fastest knockout in Pokemon history
That's the world champ for ya
I used Pachirisu in my playthrough of Brilliant Diamond (with an otherwise pretty good team) and he was the only one that could take down Cynthia's Milotic (who almost destroyed my whole run). His thunderbolt was weak but he had super fang and that move was crazy helpful to whittle her Milotic down.
Ohhhh I didn't even think about super fang, that would have been super useful
I like doing these kinds of challenges. Find the most difficult team you can, and use that. It makes winning and progressing more rewarding, and you have to be more creative than just using the same Luxray, Infernape, Staraptor, Garchomp, etc team.
This gen was especially bad with the "same team" that everyone seemed to use
@@shoopwoop3470 Yeah. My last run was Torterra (objectively the worst starter, even though he's my favorite of the three), Seaking, Chimecho, Drifblim, Rapidash focusing on it's lower Sp. Atk, and Lopunny. None of them are really "terrible," but they're also not very good compared to what you can get in the game, either. Low/mid power level team.
Great idea for a run, not original but inspired me to attempt a few for myself as I've been on a replay of the entire series using mons I've used less than others, combine that with this and it's a fresh experience.
Hey fair enough I'll take it!! Lol
Can’t wait to see more of this 🤩🤩
Lol, mores coming but it'll be a while before I get some time off
Poor chatot he didn’t deserve to be here with these bozos.
@@shoopwoop3470Chatot was my strongest pokemon in my first ever gen4 playthrough
