@@Wigaloti know that's considered to be sloppy, but that kinda works still? I spend hours with edge highlights and my minis still look mid as fuck, while she spent, like, obviously the reasonable amount of time, and that still looks presentable.
@@MrFiremagnet Right so not great painters like I said. It's basic techniques and is as little work as possible. That isn't great painting. That's lazy.
Great video! You can still get the same effect for number 3 if you're not a 3D printer - using a short length of wire as your flightstand equivalent going into each thruster, once you've painted your model you can cover the wire with cotton wool & brush coloured pigment or ground-up pastels onto the wool instead of paint to colour the smoke. Or you can glue the cotton wool onto the base as a dust cloud being kicked up by the model landing.
They look really cool. Only thing is the arms for the running marine should be the other way around. When running, the arm that is forward is typically the opposite to the leg that is forward (so right arm forward, left leg forward etc). Other than that, more models need run poses.
This is true but this is done to keep your body level and moving directly forward. Using the same side arm and leg would exaggerate how much your centre of gravity is thrown off while running. Effectively zigzagging with little extra mental effort making you harder to hit by energy overwatch.
I know this is the tabletop time channel, but I want jazza to know that we are here for him and to support him. If anyone is mad about the patreon let them. It’s a choice to support and your giving the option. Everyone at table top Time take care too!
I liked Daves and Jens approach; imagine the running space marine, but there's a little 3d printed cones of jet flames coming off the back pack, pushing him forward
Im sorry, but that solid moment of Jens realisation of what just happened reminded me of the "Hello darkness my old friend" meme xD Tbh, ive been in that exact same situationt too so that just had me in stitches
I also love how dynamic Murray's mini looks. It would be awesome to finish it off with afterburner effects on the pack, like bright blue concentrated flames, giving it that powerful look of being activated and in motion :D
I do like the smoke plume effects Ive seen other people use for flying stands but I actually did enjoy Murrays idea for a lunging marine. I think some added 3d rocket effects for the thrusters would have sold it a lot more especially using the jump marine legs to put tiny thrust effects on those too
Love this video. I am a raven guard fan. When I saw the transfer step it reminded me how I chose to paint my marines as the Raptors chapter just cause raven guard decals are not readily available in the assault intercessors kits. Then I found out all the raptors lore and now I am fully committed Raptors player. And uh...drilling into that marine's....family jewels???? (is that the right word??) very entertaining and I do like the old style acrylic flying stands over today's "GW attaches sticks to give you the illusion of flying." Also, I am posting this comment a couple of days after your video on how you guys are struggling as a channel. I just gotta say, I love the hobby content you guys do. I think algorithms in general (not just RUclips) suck. It is the worse invention known to man. It just makes us as a human race more isolated in our own little worlds instead of together. I am planning to buy a t-shirt to help support.
I love all of the paint jobs! I think build wise, I like Dave's the best as it like most like true gravity defying. I'm not in love with the acrylic post being visible on Jen's model (no shade to Jen! Outcome still looks great!) I've heard that the acrylic sticks can be used to suspend an object and then visually disappear inside a resin pour. Maybe that could be a neat project for you all to try...
To be honest, Jen's flying marine without any plumes or jetpack thrust looks a tiny bit weird, but it is still cool! I absolutely love Murray's running pose and the white colorscheme, but I have to admit Dave's creation is the best of this batch. I just can't look away.
You guys should try creating that jump-pack effect with some steel wire, led lights, cottons, and airbrush. I got inspired by "nuke lamp" DIYs but don't have the time to build it for one of my assault marines. I was also thinking about wiring an led light to a bolter (somehow) with some cottons to truly make my marines look like they are in the action.
Poor Jen! Dave, if you take want to knock it out of the park with that fire/plume stl, add the thrusters to the column of smoke. That way, people can just trim them off the model and glue on the print. Fewer places for human error.
These look stunning. I haven’t gotten the jump packs - didn’t fit with my Sallies - but the effects on your boys is *chef’s kiss* Can’t wait to see what you guys do with the Company Hero’s.
I still think the best route is to just use a metal rod in the bottom of the foot and paint it black, you don’t see it and you see a jumping model that can easily be pinned to any base.
I’m actually going to still have tactical rocks on mine, but I plan to replace them with some red lava rocks that will stick out of some water. So they’ll still be on tactical rocks, but there will be better context as to why they’re on them.
You could make it also more dynamic, just put some on the rock, couple mid flight, and one high up. So it looks like they just followed their captain to new grounds.
I just imagine this: GW: look at this, we're going to send them jump pack marines and watch them struggle building it into a space bear. Just don't tell them. TTT: We're going to make these look actually good. GW: that took a turn
Great video. What plastic glue was used with the blood angels ? I currently use the GW plastic glue but would like a brush applicator rather than the GW nozzle that tends to get blocked.
Yeah, I really don't like tactical rocks (usually. New croak model does it really well. I think mortarion is great also) for smaller models I think clear stems are just the way to go.
All 3 look better than the base kit, but Murray's is my favorite approach to it, as it's exactly what I would do, but then Dawn f War 2 was also my jam (2handed thunderhammer and jump pack for the win) and I play jump assault in space marine. 2nd would be Dave's approach as that style of flight stand always gives motion to the model that a lot of gw flying mini's lack. Jen's is perfect for people who want to commit to the flying unit, but don't want the jet plumes or can't paint fire well.
I realy like the smoke cones. Is there any way to get the file? can't 3d model for my live Edit: guess i should have watched the video till the end. its on their website for now
When it came to how Jen did the blood angel my cousin when he used to do blood angels back in the day he did Black prime and then he did a gold zenathal and then he did contrast reds it was so that the reds had a candy effect and when he did his sanguinary guard he did the same thing but silver over the black with the zenithal and then he dry brushed with Gold everywhere he also did that when he did his death company or whatever their name is the ones that are suffering from the black rage depending on the unit he would rather do a silver or gold and then go over that in the red contrast.
I think these all look nice. I just wish I couldn't still see the seam lines at the end. I know they are minis and the seam lines are pretty small. However, it is still distracting for me.
Just a little nerdy feedback for your audio editor. I reckon you could dail back the threshold on the compression. It's very loud and harsh in the upper mids, at least to my ears!
the new jump marines just look so weird the poses look strange especially on the rocks , they look badly kitbashed , just slapping jump packs on normal assault intercessors looks so much better
Maybe it's jsut me, but I have never liked any model I have seen the smoke plumes on to give the effect of flying. THey always feel like these chunky blobs that are just stuck to the mini, and never seem to actually look like real smoke, more like they have industrial-strength toothpaste dispensers on their backs.
They all look sick, you are such great painters. RIP Jen’s Blood Angel 😅

Arguably view it as a lift-off jump pose. If you do that, then there's nothing wrong with the current pose.
