When you do bikers for the Shields of Avalon, you gotta replace the bikes with coconut wielding servitors!
That's an insanely good idea 😂😂
Came here to say exactly this.
OMG
Followed by a Ork squad as the French knights.
YES! But how did they get the coconuts? Perhaps an African swallow?
A kitbash of the Lion could work really well for Arthur
That would be awesome!
And I cannot move of my head a kitbash of Lion on the mount from Thalia Vedra kit.
YES!
Aren't lion tad too big?? Even if chapter masters are bigger than your average sm, they ain't as big as primarchs.
@@sanguinius1284 well yeah. But some sm vary greatly in size. Tyberos for example. But I do concede that your point is very much valid
Demi-Gryph knight pole-axed would make a good armament for more of king Arthur's bodyguards.
A great character to help lead an honorguard could be Sir Bedivere, the last knight at Arthur's side in the legends!
Just a heads up, the Green Knight in Arthurian lore was revealed to be Lord Bertilak, already a fantastic name, and he had appeared in legend with Sir Gawain.
"Trouble at the old mill?" Bet the Watcher in the dark didn't expect a kind of Spanish inquisition 😂😂😂😂😂
*dramatic musical trill*
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
I love the concept of their enemies encountering essentially a more dangerous order of Monty Python knights
They are fictional. But there is established heraldry for the knights of the round table and King Arthur. Sure, its fantasy lore, but historical fantasy lore. Before becoming King, Arthurs heraldry was green field with two rampant dragons standing back to back. After becoming King, he used a blue field with 3 crowns one above the other. Though sometimes he also has a red field and the crowns are sometime in a triangular formation, or there has been multiple crowns before.
I think of Sir Perceval who had a seat at the round table that was magically reserved for him called the ‘Siege Perilous’, and I think that is a great name for a Dreadnough or some other vehicle - if you go down that route.
Give Excalibur a rewatch and tell me an all gold Mordred wouldn't be a fantastic heretic splinter chapter lord.
Is Mordred an Arthurian Midas lmO
@@thedyingmeme6 More an Arthurian Judas Iscariot, I think. The more Christian-influenced that lore became, I'm sure that was the case, but I may be wrong. The type who works his way into your confidences, sows discord in the ranks, then stabs your back when you least expect it, that was Mordred's MO on behalf of Morgan Le Fay if my memory serves me correctly?
@@MaskedRiderChris Mordred's deal is very unclear in our first source for him (which is just something saying that both Mordred and Arthur are dead). Depending on the story exactly what Mordred's deal is changes. His primary thing is being the child of Arthur and one of the Cornwall sisters (Morgause, Morgan, or the other one) and ultimately betraying Arthur (or at least making war against Arthur). In some versions he's a schemer on his own, postdating the height of Morgan Le Fae's evil schemes, and sometimes he's just the blunt instrument wielded by his mother.
Pretty consistently though he fights Arthur, kills Arthur, and then dies himself.
@@benjaminprentice6837 Thank you for clarifying all that, and well stated!
@@benjaminprentice6837 Look up the last Celtic Queen and how the betrayal of her son, to the Romans, killed her & her forces, in a swamp.
If I'm right, she and her Queendom, is the origin of both the Arthurian myth & that of Ter-Na-Nog.
And Excalibur was probably made of English pure iron ore, so very high quality iron.
The yellow and deer antlers are bringing me some Robert Baratheon vibes..
One thing I'd love to see for another addition is Sir Bedivere. He's always been one of my favorite members of the Round Table and was basically King Arthur's closest Knight. In some legends he only has one arm, which could serve as a great excuse to give him a gleaming prosthetic, and there's also a myth where he catches a spear thrown by a giant and hurls it back at them, so giving him some manner of glaive could be a nice touch. Overall, I totally agree, Space Marine Knights are one of the best aesthetics, and its why I can't stop looking at the Grey Knights and Dark Angels ranges, even though I already have armies in the works, and the Grey Knight range is so damn old.
Love that sun. More knights!
And now I have the image of a texture roller rolling through the city, making people stare after it in surprise in my head.
An interesting idea for a "Chapter Master Arthur" kitbash could be to use Black Templar Emperor's champion pieces
Lovely conversion, and army concept- was pleased to see the sun heraldry from Monty Python too!
It looks awesome. I want to see something bigger painted up for the same chapter. A knightly dreadnought would be cool.
He turned out awesome! The Knights Who Say Ni had antlers too.😂
Ni
@@quakxy_dukx IT
I am also doing a knightly army at the moment. But they’re Stormcast Eternals and are a mix of the falcon knights of Lego castle and the templar or more accurately the crusade knights. I love how your paintjob looks and the kitbash is simple but really effective.
Sir Lance-a-little of the Vaguely Rounded Table praises the Sun and skewers heretics. 14/10
On a side note, how I dealt with a broken off weapon once: Took a tiny hand drill, drilled holes in the broken parts, insert a piece of a hypodermic needle coated in super glue. Stays fixed years after.
Hello. As you're going for a heraldic theme, it's important to note that the "rope" around the base of the antler crest is not actually a rope. It's called a "torse", and is actually two different coloured pieces of cloth braided together. Knights wore this to hid the join between the helmet and the crest. In heraldry, if you were designing a coat of arms, it is traditionally made of a colour and a "metal" (white/silver or yellow/gold), alternating.
I mean, it's totally fine to paint it as a rope, modeller's choice. But if you want full authenticity it would be better as two colour twisted together. This goes for all you soon to be Bretonnian players with the release of The Old World.
I play dark angels, so happy to see em be painted by a pro!
These are lovely. I love stuff like this and love listening to folks talk about their stories. The kitbashes are also fantastic. As for ideas, Percival is an interesting knight I think would fit into the scout company given her was raised far from civilization and was known to make many mistakes when it came to "proper conduct" amongst knights, like not asking the right questions at the right time or knowing his place in things. It makes sense to me at least.
He looked freaking awesome even with the goofy Sun 😂
What a creative conversion! Amazing work dude
I love the ode to Monty Python!!!! Awesome little accessory!!! ❤😊❤
wow you nailed the heraldry, that's hilarious
As a fantasy nut, I really, really like this custom chapter. All power to you, I can't wait to see what else you put together.
I love the yellow and white! They lend unexpected nobility to this model. And the nod to the Monty Python classic is *chef kiss*
The gatorade gremlin 😂😂😂
I want more of this! I wanna see more Arthurian characters kitbashed and painted up!
For me as a bretonnian but 40k loving warhammer fan, this army is heaven ❤
Love it! Definitely would love to see more Arthurian inspired space marines. They are so much fun.
I love 40k special conversion armies that take inspection from other media.
That yellow is amazingballz!! I love the throwback to the one, the only, King Arthur, that I would ever follow. Definitely need more knights.
This is such a cool idea for an army and I love the idea of using different heraldry and colours. I hope you do Sir Robin lol
Since they have taken Holy Grail as a historical work, you need Sir Not Appearing In This Film as a cherubim.
Very nice project. I'm impatiently waiting for the sequel
14:30 - Sounds like the perfect time to bust out the pin vise drill and paperclips 😉
Golden Coffee makes you more creative like Emperor. XD
I would have to suggest pinning the lance (often seen done by Pete the wargamer). Wonderful kitbash, I look forward to seeing more additions to this army!
If you want to do something fun, Lancelot had a friend named Galehaut, a half giant Knight who once was a challenge to Arthur's rule. You could have a former Lieutenant of Lancelots who was injured, and now is Dreadnought bound, and who took the name Galehaut as he wished to serve alongside his former captain once more!
Ever thought about giving Grandpa El’Johnson a lion pelt?
The watcher in the dark mumbling about Gatorade was amazing
The antlers are also a nod to the Knights of Ni! He needs a little white picket fence on his base.
I've been doing an Arthurian chapter myself, this series is giving me lots of good ideas for conversions
Randomly came along this channel looking at Dark Angels videos and I love it. I'd love to see you get a full 2000 point Arthur and his knights done. Especially if we get to see more of that amazing heraldry with the mustache. Sir Robin next, he quickly runs away runs away runs away.
TTT PLEASE let there be more bits with that little goblin from the begining
We need to see a full squad of these guys converted up 😊
The King Arthur's chapter is one of my favorite things in the channel :D Please keep doing them!
As someone still wrestling with NMM, I really liked how the gold turned out on this one. The color combination is a winner, too, as is referencing one of the funniest movies ever made! Good work!
Gosh this looks so incredible!
That shield heraldry is amazing! I was shocked that stuff like that can be done so well with free-hand, great job Dave.
This one turned out amazing! Love what you did
Mordred: Black. Espionage, assasination and more covert/underhanded operations.
Galahad: Purple. Ariel assault(jetpacks or flying vehicles) due to Galahad's purity, essentialy making him and his men "above" the rest.
Tristan: Pure yellow. Cavalry bikes.
Percival: Turquoise. Naval/Underwater missions?
Queen Guinevere? Silver. Sisters of battle.
Also, i'd love to see you make the rest of the knights as well as Arthur himself.
So strangely enough, I started working on a chapter I've called The Fists of Avalon. But I went full into some of the weird Arthurian legends. The subsector is a series of Feudal worlds stuck within the Brocéliande Nebula, that blocks Vox communications so the Mechanicus avoids it. The subsector lies on the western most edge of the Imperium and defends the narrow Warp Corridor against Orks, Dark Mechanicus, and Traitor threats. I am going to start working on an Ork combat patrol that acts as the narrative foil of my Feudal Guard (who are chapter serfs of the Fists that serve their Space Marine lords and help defend the subsector), the Warband of Morkdred, which I am going to use AoS Orruks to make some heavily armored Orks with.
Never played Warhammer before but I love art and dnd and I love watching mini painting. Very good looking soldiers!
Super cool model, good job!
"Oh, you want me to paint some Dark Angels?"
"Gatorade!"
Since Gawain is already there, it would be a great idea to add his brothers: Agravaine, Gaheris, and Gareth, all of whom had a seat at the Round Table.
Im also excited to see how you would adopt the Grail story in 40k. Percival is the original Grail knight, but Galahad, a much more popular knight, actually found the Grail. Lancelot is also a Grail knight, but because of his relationship with Guinevere, he wasnt deemed worthy to find the Grail. Galahad and Lancelot also has a weird relationship 😅
The emblem was the best part, I love it! x,D
Antlers/horns not being worn by Bertilak the Green Knight feels wrong, so you gotta give him antlers when you make him! Amazing stuff once again.
This is so original and nice, keep going bro love to see the whole chapter when you done man
If you’re still having trouble getting the lance to stay glued, I recently started pinning those kind of things, but in stead of a metal pin, using plastic glue and a piece of sprue trimmed to act as a pin and it ends up a lot stronger.
Loved it! Its a very fun and nice concept :D
Awesome job, well done Dave!. ❤
Cool conversion, and would definitely like to see more like this.
You had me at the Watcher in the dark
That's a cool concept for a conversion army. I'd love to see the whole army done! 😁
Absolutely want to see more Knights of Avalon!
Love love love love LOVE IT!!!!!!
I want to see the entire chapter of king Arthur's Knights! this is such a fun Idea! The whole concept woks and your execution of it is good as well! it fits in a similar way to bloodborne and the sisters of battle.
Grey knights gotta get this same treatment! The new deathwing are awesome.
Love the vid ,I find using a fine piece of thread & super glue helps strengthen it.
loving the new shields of avelon minis you have been painting
Ah, so cool. Love it. Such fun!
well dang, I was wondering about doing a conversion of the deathwing knights for my own custom chapter because I adore the shields and this showed me that it is possible and was fun to learn about your custom chapter. Love the ideas you have for it and can't wait to see more of it
Wow! This is fantastic work man, please let me see more of the Sheilds, defo would love to see the whole lot. Thanks for making this video
In heraldic legend, Arthur's iconography consisted of three golden leopards, and later included a dragon. Monty Python got it surprisingly close, and ipso facto so did you!
This gives me some awesome inspiration for the Howling Griffons kill team I'm planning. Great stuff!
the white and gold normally comes with a splash of red in Arthurian lore, as it harks back to the red dragon that profised the comming of Arther, in Nennius's Historia Brittonum. the white and gold comes from the golden dragon on a white banner that was suposidly king Uthers (Arthers farther) banner
A fun idea could be a company called "Seekers of the Grail" -- Its wizened Captain Percival / Parzival and the promising new Lieutenant Galahad -- on an eternal crusade in search of relics!
For breaks like that I use a small drill bit to drill into each end. I then use a small piece of metal (usually a paperclip) and glue it into one end with superglue. I then put a little superglue into the hole on the other end with plastic glue on the edges on each part. I then join the parts, only takes a few seconds to hold and gets you a very solid connection. I have never had a part pinned that way break.
The problem I faced is that because it was one of the new games workshop hafts where it gets wider and thinner, it had broken where it was so thin I couldn't even find a drill bit small enough to get in there and leave some plastic on the outside to actually support the pin
@@TabletopTime That is part of the reason I bought some .508mm bits.
Lol Dave, loved the video, but what makes me need to comment is the paint-coffee. I regularly drink when glazing my pottery (don't do that, kiddos; it's unsafe! Do as I say, not as I do). Since glazes pre-purifucation-by-fire are toxic, lids are an absolute must. I recommend them for every artist that must dip brushes in any liquid. 😂
Gotta love medieval x 40k
definitely, I would love to see more of this crazy knighty space marines ;)
I had trouble with the swords on my Paragon Warsuits snapping off during painting as well. I worked out that taking a short length of paperclip wire (no more than 4mm) and using it to pin it where it the break occurred worked a real treat in repairing things.
love to see more of this and the Sa'kura Tau
😂 the Sun I love it so much.
the Britannin helmet in there is sweet looking!
very cool and unique!
Sir Marrock was a knight who got rolled into the Arthurian mythos, most noted for his ability to turn into a wolf. Maybe another assault company/ biker captain as a sort of 'Master of the Hounds', use some Space Wolf bits and a hunting dog/ wolf?
I built a Space Marine Order based on Bretonians with the helmets, shields, lances, etc. like you did. Was my first Space Marines projects over 20 years ago and I restated it 2 years ago or so and now, Bretonian Bitz are available again without having to give a kidney for 5 parts...
I choose to believe that rather than copies of "The Once And Future King" or other literary works of Arthurian Legend.. The Shields of Avalon were blessed with a singular LaserDisc of Monty Python's: Holy Grail.
That would explain why my Merlin has Tim's staff
amazing conversion and paint job. Not sure I love the antlers but if they work for you than thats awesome. Great job!
If you can get your hands on the King Arthur Pendragon RPG from Chaosium, they have the Mallory heraldry in the book. White with red cross (the Crusader cross) was Galahad. Arthur's is three gold crowns on a field of blue.
Gotta get Morgan le Fay and The Lady of The Lake in some how. Maybe also a unicorn as a mounted unit. Any and all Monty Python references are welcome too (Black Knight with a missing limb maybe?, Holy handgrenade? Rabbit? Tim? Coconut Horses?)
Can't wait to see what is next
Dave is SO Aussie: "I then paint the purity seal in a CAR KEY"
I've been wanting to make a black templar army using bretonian helmets to make them actually look like crusaders but I was scared that I'd have to take off too much of the head dress, this video has shown me it's possible.
They're maybe gonna release a 'fallen' codex. It's been wanted for years and they'd sell twice as many dark angels, which is g dubs biz plan
Paint spears on the the sprue..they don't break off that way
Every time these videos come out, I lament that I am too busy with work to put my own 40k minis together. Looks great!
Want a good name for a character? Try Kay. Sir Kay was Arthur's foster brother and one of his most loyal. Other good ones are Percival, Galahad (his greatest knight), Bors and Lionell. I didn't know that anyone else had made a King Arthur themed chapter, but I am not surprised. A lot of Bretonian models have symbols traditionally associated with the Kingdom of France, and Arthur was supposed to be Welsh but that will probably be ok as the monk that wrote the first Arthur story was French. Also bear in mind that the sword in the stone is not Excalibur, that is Caliburn. Excalibur came from the lady of the lake.
Amazing job!
