Glory to Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference 1000 or something.
Edit: What if characters like the Green knight and Mordred were Chaplains, Teachers playing the enemies and tragic characters of Arthurian Legend they teach to the recruits, the living embodiment of the demise of the Great Heroes and Villains, a constant reminder to the Chapter of the lessons of those legends.
A Chaplain’s Crozius does share similarities with an Axe like that of the Green Knight.
Feel like the green knight should be a dreadnought
That’s also interesting, but I had this idea of a festival where each person who represents a major character from Arthurian Legend puts on a play to reenact certain myths, Gawain and the Green Knight for example.
Besides, Dave did say he had plans for the Green Knight already.
1000? Do you mean the 1000th Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference this week?
Yeah, as soon as I saw the reference I got "Knights of the Round Table" stuck in my head.
@@benh4390 A 30k dreadnought at that with plants growing out of Him and maybe a small tree on top. like what if an Ent was a dreadnought type feel ya know.
we dont get Shields of Avalon videos very often. but its always a treat when we do.
Sir Melion was a werewolf in service to king Arthur, Sir Galehaut was Lancelot's best friend and half giant, and Sir Bedivere was a giant slayer. And also a mage in some stories!
'How do you know so much about swallows?'
'Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.'
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who's obsessed with Knights in space. My chapter is also knights in space. The Gryphon Guard are an order of knights from Aurgelon and its moon Archimedes. Aurgelon was a feudal world even after the Horus heresy, and they didn't actually join the imperium until a company of Raven Guard crash landed on their planet. They got stuck for nearly three decades, but in that time, they became the greatest warriors the world had ever known, and were heralded as knights due to the resplendent armor that they wore. However, in order for their power to be recognized, they adopted the culture of the world's people, and were thus reborn as the Order of Gryphon Knights. Eventually, members of the mechanicum heard about this new feudal world on the edge of imperium space, and they fled there from their previous research partners. The Gryphon knights would not allow the mechanicum to claim their new planet though, so they were allowed to take the moon as long as they could build ships and tech for the good of Aurgelon. Now, Archimedes is a forge world, but it's home to a bunch of heriteks that... *gasp* do their own research! So then, there is a tenuous alliance between the mechanicum of Archimedes, and the people of Aurgelon, who pretend not to notice their heretical research.
So fun fact, this channel has actually inspired me to try out miniature collecting/painting for myself. I got an AoS starter kit for a my birthday and will see how I like it. If so I'll probably continue, if not then I'll stick to Heroforge, but I wanted to let you guys know that you've had an impact on me.
Congratulations, with that intro you win the Internet
Yeah it had me rolling
if you're ever looking for long swords and good helmets,
the grey knight strike squad box is an AMAZING source for conversion bits.
they have some of the best greatswords
I now want to make a DA successor chapter focused on the honour bound aspect of knights, but with the darkness in the background. The chaplains are suspicious and paranoid, but carry that themselves, unwilling to taint the honour of the individual astartes. They use humans and servitors to investigate, keeping clear records of every death they orchestrate, in the shadows but ready to be held accountable. (Because you can be dark, brutal and cynical without being stupid)
I like it, you could use imperial agents to represent the human intelligence officer types
Have you done Sir Gawain yet?
If not, I want to suggest a diarama where he comes face to face with the Green Knight.
I think a Death Guard marine will make the best Green Knight.
Yes. Gawain was his first knight.
That intro was fun 😂
People so often think all the successors have to be like the original chapter but i imagine many will not have had any actual contact with their founding chapter, the galaxy is a big place after all.
The Mortifactors are also an Ultra successor, hard to be more different.
Black Templar and Imperial Fists couldnt be more different :D
@bremer1701 another great example
Omg! I have always Loved Dave's Knights of Avalon Space Marines!!
I totally understand the feeling of losing enthusiasm when some models break but I am sooo Glad to see these models back!
So yes please! More Avalon characters! I love all those ideas that you mentioned!
I really really love your King Arthur kitbashes, I really can't wait to see more!
to signify mythical mordred's disloyal nature you could take away the yellow/white secondary color associated with King Arthur, and make them Red/Black (even if they are just supposed to be the one that trains against the others, i think it would be fun to nod to that bit of fantasy)
lol what if the helmet being skewered by Lancelot is one from mordred's company, not to copy dark angels but they could be a type of fallen for the shields of avalon
The helmet is pretty open, I painted it as red corsairs but really it could be anything
With Mordred it depends upon the version of the mythology.
My favorite is one where Camlen was due to a cowardly gloryhound that screws himself over over the course of the story.
Arthur heads off on campaign, traditionally to go fight the romans. There's a hard battle and the knight flees in the middle of it back to Camelot and tells everyone that Arthur must be dead and his forces lost. This leads to him and others pushing Mordred to take the throne as the proper heir (being either the bastard son or nephew of Arthur there).
Mordred eventually gets forced into taking it, but the knight then gets annoyed for not having gotten the "proper respect" for having been on campaign when Arthur was "lost"...he hears that Arthur is still around, so runs off to say that Mordred has stolen the throne...
He bounces back and forth and creates a lot of the mess there, and, again flees the final battle where he's struck by an arrow and pinned to a treestump in the brush where he dies alone, forgotten, and his name forever lost.
@@AzraelThanatos it is unfortunate that his manipulation brought about such a tragedy, but his end was fitting as a traitor whose name went unrecorded
@@ieatrainbows095 Yep, and it added to the tragedy of the entire thing.
Especially since Mordred didn't really even want the throne at that point
Best intro yet
These are my favorite videos. The custom armies/chapters brings more individuality to the TTT channel.
Love this series, the kitbashes are always so clever. Using the Old World bit to represent the Lady of the Lake as a backpack decoration is genius, and the whole completed scene with the squires and heraldry looks incredible.
I love you guys so much, you three are the reason I gave Warhammer a try…I get inspired by your videos whenever I dont know what to paint or build
He's definitely my favourite miniature in your army now. The addition of the squires was such a cool idea. I love how everyone contributed to the miniature too. Looking forward to seeing even more from this army
Yes, more Shields of Avalon! Love the addition of the history and the explanation of the difference between successor chapters and their founding chapter.
Return of the shields of Avalon.... I am so happy right now 😁
For Mordred’s company: OPFOR (Opposing Force) is definitely a thing militaries do to simulate adversary capabilities and tactics. So you could have a company that leans in a very dark direction because their purpose is to become well-versed in the tactics and strategies of the Chapter’s enemies. They could simulate chaos tactics and equipment, have human detachments to simulate traitor guard, or even equip them with forbidden xenos weaponry. The options are endless! And because it’s warhammer 40k, exposure to such things would definitely have a negative effect on this almost cursed company. A very good idea!
Awesome conversion, awesome painting, looking forward to the other knight of the round table !
Oof, the pain of favourite models getting broken. I felt that on a spiritual level. Glad you've been able to fix them and get back into the grove! Looking forward to seeing the King Arthur diarama, though that Lady of the Lake knight sounds pretty good while we wait 😜
3:33 The Lady of the Lake isn't fit to be a symbol for a Commander. She's just a watery tart who throws swords at people. Lancelot can't expect to wield supreme executive power while displaying some moistened bint on his stuff. Absolute madness!
lol that's a lot of words to indicate a lack of understanding the source material
@@queenofzenk It's a monty python reference.
@@Hatypus lol my own lack of understanding is embarrassing, gotta watch it again apparently.
I'm really looking forward to Brave Sir Robin and his accompanying minstels
Noise Marine helmet with enormous speaker grill?
And the aptly named; Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Chapter
Excellent intro, even more excellent model. Would like a mini series over a few months with 2-3 videos on the project before it is put to bed for 12 months.
In terms of a general idea… A fortress keep for these, including training ground and Knight dock for the future lady of the lake
Well it doesnt matter what you want does it
@@EdwardWB97 right. okay.
Awesome work done by all . Jen the base is beautiful, Murray outstanding job on the squires and Dave excellent job on the concept building and painting of Lancelot. Also congrats on all the information behind your successor chapter love it .
The gangs all back together! Masterful kitbash/paint/base job! Love the custom lore for your Shields of Avalon!
Your kitbashing skills really bring the character to life in a whole new way. This is such a unique twist on both the Arthurian legend and 40k universe-thanks for sharing this awesome project! 🙌
There is actually a decent historical argument for the Shields of Avalon making sense as an Ultramarines Successor chapter. The Roman to Aruthrian myth connection does exist and fairly directly too. There is a fairly common idea that if there was a historical King Arthur he would have been a Romano-Breton Leader. The evidence is basically a mention in two early medieval chronicles, the Historia Brittonum and Annales Cambriae to an Arthur who fought against early Anglo-Saxon invasions. Even though 2 thin sources does not a solid historical narrative make it is perfectly enough for warhammer lore.
The tldr story is that as the Western Roman Empire started to fall apart they withdrew their Legions and Administrative support from the Roman Province of Britain the people who were living there still kindof carried on doing Roman things even though they were now on their own without the official institutions of the Roman Empire. This situation lasted for about a century and a half before Anglo-Saxons began first raiding then invading Britain. It is in this era where chronicles say that Arthur came along to rally the britons to repel the invaders. If you want to avoid reading up on it you can look up Roman Britain - The Work of Giants Crumbled on youtube that documentary does a good job of going over the vibe of Roman Britain.
So there is a lot of good backstory fodder there if you look into it, the idea that following the Heresy the Ultramarines were spread thin and had to withdraw support from the periphery of ultramar, only for a small group of space marines drawn from that world to swear an oath to protect their home world even without the support of the primarch could be cool. Anyway love this series it is always cool to see how imaginative your renditions of the Arthurian Legend come from.
As much as I prefer the medieval Arthurian aesthetic, if he was real he would’ve been Roman yeah. Sword in the stone would be a spatha or something like that
@@ad_astra5 Yea maybe though the concept of Arthur is very much a medieval construct, even the sources that people draw the Roman Arthur from were made in the early medieval period with sources closer to Roman Britain making no mention of him so the medieval Arthurian aesthetic is as valid as anything.
I just wanted to support Dave's decision to make the Shields of Avalon a Ultramarines successor chapter with some history as it totally makes sense for an Ultramarines Successor to have a medieval chivalric aesthetic after 10,000 years away from the Legion and has lots of potential to add a cool bit of texture to their backstory
i love kitbashing videos as it shows how creative you can be with the parts infront of you. and heroforge is such a fun tool. i use it ALL the time and the team being hero forge puts out new content terms of items, clothes, races and what not to really allow you to make your own characters come to life.
I love the idea of doing a display base like that! It's a nice compromise between painting a diorama and a playable model.
Well, I have to admit, one of the army I get the most fun painting, is my space marines which take this idea of heraldry, with every marines having a different colors. A lot of fun to imagine good combination, some research about heraldic and each miniature is it's own project (thanksfully, it's more a killteam than an army x) )
As a massive King Arthur fan, I love this. I also love how true to the original lore you were. I think using Sir Ector as a chaplain or scout character could be really cool. The Green Knight would also be good as a chaplain as he is associated with testing the worthiness of Gwain.
The Green Knight 100% needs to have an big two handed axe, to fit with his Legend.
I quite like the idea Mordred is a Chaplain.
Also, if you ever field Lancelot in a game for any reason, you could use him on the bigger base as a proxy for The Lion. The idea that his swordsmanship is so peak that he can parry bullets with his sword is somehow perfect Lancelot.
If the Green Knight accepts mortal wounds (allows himself to be decapitated on the condition that he’ll come back in a year to do likewise to whoever “killed” him), he ought to be a Dreadnought. I agree with the idea of giving him a giant axe for a weapon though. Both his arms *are* arms rather than weapon turrets and he’s wielding one like a human would, save that it’s too big for even a space marine to lift.
@BassoeG that is an excellent idea honestly, a colossal Axe in the hands of a Brutalis Dreadnought. Make him an old friend of... I think it was Gawain, who had a misadventure woth Bertilak/The Green Knight?
17:20 A Green Knight would be an amazing challenge video for Christmas!
“Even though we’re in slapping distance.” You wouldn’t happen to mean, FISH SLAPPING distance there Murray???
one of the most creativy minis that you guys have painted. Its amazinh. And the monty Python reference it was perfect
I love it so much. Y’all are really bumping up the production and quality. I really appreciate it
Mordred built from an Eliminator as captain of the scout company? I don't know Green Knight I just see a dreadnought or an actual Imperial Knight? Super cool project!
Dude I know you don't necessarily do these very often, but these videos I really love. Find them quite inspiring...I don't normally comment on videos....and this one made me do it. Keep up the good work, you're killing it.
That feeling of a broken army, I remember it well. Decades ago a buddy and I where going to a tournament that weekend so he was staying at my place on the couch. He was fast asleep I was putting the final details on my custom chaos marines and just as I finished and put the last one on my display board he kicked in his sleep knocking over some things and sending a 2x4 of wood crashing down right across the center of my army and board. I repaired and still went to the event but I feel like that kind of killed all the joy in that army for me after that.
Really awesome video guys! We thoroughly enjoyed it. Always love your kitbashes.
This was awesome! I find your advice on making your own chapter very insightful, and I'd love to see you tackle the Lady of the Lake
I love these kitbash videos !
Really leaning hard into the opening gags today, I see.
Love it though. Great seeing more of the homebrew armies.
Liked the green screen bit and the water bottle mic holder. 😂
I loved the space bears you guys made. Please do a kickstarter for the shields of Avalon. They look so cool
Such a great model and paint job! I love the approach with the larger base as a display piece. 🔥
You guys should make more conversion videos. This is great and would love to see more :)
Green Knight on a bike, Lady of the Lake and Mordred - yes please! Thanks for another great video 🙂
That’s amazing great job!!!! One of my favorites you have done
The lady of the Lake would be an awesome mini to see brought to life.
I never thought to do display bases for miniatures before. Definitely going to have to do that for my imperial guard force now (and my skaven and Tau).
15:03 , Really resonated with me, I'm working on a custom chapter of what I've dubbed Conquistamarines I have no plans to make it into a full army or anything but I just take core units, lightly kitbash and paint up
It does need to be a whole thing it's just fun
Really excited to see more of the round table made easily my favorite table top time project
It really is nice to see these guys again!
Would love to see more Avalon Space Marines, I realy like the idea behind the chapter, and the minis you have made so far.
Loved the way Jen made the base n Lancelot, so that it looks good as a display model, but also can be used in a game of 40K.
I really like hwo you try and make most videos team efforts so everybody gets to have some screentime.
Turning the lady of the lake into a themed knight would be amazing. Especially if you started with some opr sisters walkers as a base.
Or she's an eldar trying to spy on humans
I just watched this series of videos this week lol super excited to see Arthur
Love the intro! And those squires are a really cool addition!
11:38 meanwhile one Ultramarine thinks a Salamander trying to save a human "a burden"
~Horus Herasy: Forgotten Sons
It's a simple touch, but easily missed; I like that the banner on the lance, Lancelot's cloak and Bors'/ Lionel's flag all flutter in the same direction. A subtle thing that really ties the diorama together
Thankyou that was quite deliberate, it's not perfect but I did my best with the parts to still also have a good angle of view
17:27 You could do a Destroyer/Dreadwing type thing with that
Turn that spark into a flame dave! 🔥 Vintage TTT 😁👌
I love heroforge and have been using it for years but seeing what you guys can do with kitbashing really does excite me and now I want to get pro..... I would love to see more heroforge videos similar to when you made Murrays undead ship brute thing I thought that was awesome!!!
That is a proper job! Well done Brother.
Awesome! I loved the Monte Python intro!
They look fantastic!
This is my favorite one so far, awesome job man!
I know you want to do a bike green knight, but hear me out... Green Knight is the warboss of a WAAAAGH on the Shields of Avalon's planet. He is an ork with a BIG AXE, and he survived Gawain chopping his head off.
Amazing minis and great production value on this video
This looks amazing!!
Amazing awesome beautiful love those figures 😉
Such an amazing kitbash!
Oh joy, another inspirational video that's going to tip me over to making a killteam... Damnation (awesome kitbash btw)
I love this, what a great idea. Can’t wait to see more.
As a quick mention the first company of a space marine chapter has its own captain, the chapter master leads an honour guard in battle instead
Lovely work on these!
so glad to see the shields return
Jen is killing it as Patsy
Enjoyed this one guys. Thanks!
Didn't realise swallows migrated that far!
Aaron Dembski-Bowden listed as one of his core tenets for creating an interesting chapter "It doesn't matter who your daddy is."
Gotta love some Monty Python. 🤣👍
This chapter is great. I can't wait for you to make Tristan and Percival.
Love these!! Really would love to see more!!
Very inspiring. Thank you!
Loved the intro, nothing beats a good monty python reference
I honestly think it would be cool if Mordred was kitbashed using some of the chaos space marine bits like the power packs, where the difference is being spiky rather than actual chaos symbols.
Counter-suggestion: the Lady of the Lake is the tech-priest caring for their armory (she was the one who created Excalibur, in some versions, after all)
I'm totally here for the Mont Python references!
The Shields of Avalon they don't need to be an army they are just a bunch of merry lads
I think there’s also an interesting historical lens through which to view this, because the medieval British world of the Arthurian Romances would have been very recently influenced by the Romans. So in the 40K setting it makes sense to have a chapter of chivalric knights branch of from the classically influenced legion.
A way you could do Mordred could be some phobos units, Reavers are designed to cause fear in the hearts of their enemies which could be a great way to represent a host of black knights
Love the Monty Python reference 😅 You need the Knights of Née with exoskeleton bits to replace the bits that have been cut off 😅
Should make a black templar black knight model with less limbs.
Great result!
