      RIGHT?! I had to scroll back and rewatch the part where he takes the Agrax from Jazza’s armpit. I laughed so hard. Especially because Jazza did such a good job of keeping a straight face and focusing on what he was doing until the end (last half a second) where the smile hits his eyes. 😅

      I was thinking the same thing. If there’s any Legion that could legit look like any other it’s the Alpha Legion. The best response you could have, Dave, is to pause and look into someone’s eyes and say “That’s what they WANT you to think…”

    I mean...to be fair, having your Alpha legion marines being miscategorized as other chapters, is the most alpha legion thing ever.

    The best part was seeing the "little kid paint job" on the first mini, it was like showing us your baby photos, no matter how embarrassing they might be. And the rapid step-by-step explanation of the final paint job is terrific! I want to see that in just about every video from now on.

    If you lack "OLD" Nuln oil, I strongly recommend Pro Acryl Black Wash - it's virtually and for all intents and purposes 1:1 with pre update Nuln oil.

    Really enjoyed watching the repainting of a model and hearing how your Alpha Legion came to be. Also, love the bit with the paints hidden in obscure places!! but hearing your story of life and the hobby was genuinely enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. I'd love this kinda style video from other members. Love you guys

    10:55 The severed hands on the heavy bolter really made me chuckle... Hmmm, that sounds worse and weirder than I meant it to.
    The Defiler's painted scales are very impressive.
    That Ravaged Star's obliterator is so much cooler than the GW original; though do have a soft spot for the converted Centurion idea.

    Seeing journeys like yours and the evolution of your hobby time really helps with knowing Im doing alright going into my second year in the hobby. Fortunately I started this hobby with the best the mini hobby has been in terms of models and painting as technology really has expanded its accessibility. I cant imagine where my modeling and painting will be after a decade or 2 like so many I follow have already experienced. It gets me excited and motivated to push myself and enjoy the ride

  • @TotemStorms
    @TotemStorms 11 месяцев назад +4

    It is always reassuring hearing from the professionals that looking back on your crafting journey and thinking "why did I do that (for so long/ that way/ at all)?" is normal. Seeing the progression is great, and the work in progress on the model during the video made for an interesting change of pace along the way.
    And based off Dave reading through the list of paints that he used, I think that the next Bob Ross video (probably on Jazza's channel, but Tabletop Time could join in as well) should be painting a mini/ diorama in the style of Bob Ross.

  • @JohnCharlesBetts
    @JohnCharlesBetts 11 месяцев назад +1

    That was fun - especially the frozen pot. My own Space Marines have a history of evolution, they just became Blackshields, and the idea of hanging on to the older ones appeals to me. The current colours you chose for the Alpha Legion are superb, but seeing the progression was fun.

  • @glrasshopper
    @glrasshopper 11 месяцев назад +1

    Important lessons learned in this video: 1) Dave was once as bad at painting as we all were. 2) Regular practice means that we can get better, just like he did. 3) Dave keeps his paints in really weird places!

    I always appreciate a good alpha legion homebrew, I havent been in the hobby very long. But my first army is alpha legion and I love the combinations of alpha legion visuals and historical inspirations into their aesthetic. That defiler is the only conversion I’ve seen that makes me actually like it, too many people maintain the hybrid fleshy demon parts.

    • @TabletopTime
      @TabletopTime  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thats what I hate most about the new chaos direction. Get this flesh junk off everything. Daemon Engines are daemons forced into machines to fight for mans whim, not daemons fused with machines all buddy buddy

    DAVE. The little details you have on your custom models is AMAZEBALLS. In particular, with the Defiler, the Imperial Guard arm that is severed and still hanging onto the gun on the base. It’s so awesome I can’t even!

    What an great video. So cool to hear about your journey and wow, what a model Omegon is! That scheme pops!
    I was also struck by how much I liked baby Dave's blood stump marking idea. It's so fitting for the universe in that "turn it up to 11" sort of way. Clearly you'd nailed that aspect of Chaos and 40k from an early age.

    thats the best Alpha Legion scheme ive seen
    for models that can be upcycled i will repaint them, but i will keep my favorite example or two from the group and stow them
    the ability to go back and look at old work is super valuable, especially when you hit a wall and have major issues with getting a certain technique or look right
    going back and seeing just how far you have come really inspires you to pick up the tools and try again ... also the wandering through memory lane is nice
    but i certainly dont need 2000 points of models that i cant or wont ever use again
    so if i can put them to better use, i do
    after primaris made it clear they were the new standard, i took all my old marines are true scaled them
    been chipping away at the project and now with 10th, the distinction between marines is gone, so my custom chapters time to shine is soon
    but i made sure to keep some of my classics intact

    Really enjoyed the journey of this video, and the repainting of thr model - and especially the locating of paints.
    I've been lucky to have never needed to sell my old models (though should probably sell the models I know I'll never actually build, paint, use) but I have repainted some.
    My regret here is not taking pics of my old work in order to see the progress I've made in skill and technique (or sometimes just the quality of the materials used).
    Alternatively, i can memorialise an era of my journey by keeping one of the old squads, and repainting the rest so they get used.
    But it's a personal thing, i guess.
    Great video anyway. And would still love to see more Traitor Guard.

    the fact that your alpha legions were mistaken as other legions should be seen as a compliment when ya think about it, means they infiltrated successfully x'D
    Me i like to go with a black primer, some gunmetal metalic, use some red and purple tones for shading, ultra chrome highlights, then some turqoise with some extra blue speed paints(contrast over that. sometimes ill wash with some purple or blue tones, depending on what i want.
    Though i also try new ways of painting them all the time, see if i can get that exact tone i want, experiment
    besides, its alpha legion, color shift armor is basicly their thing (have also tried greenstuff worlds color shift paints for em)

    I won’t lie but looking at that model I know it’s suppose to be that charcter you made. But because of how it has been painted I see it as a new charcter all on its own. It being so beautifully made so a part of me if I were able to give him a name it would be either going of the Charybdis the lord of this alpha legions army. He just gives that overwhelming and yet also terrifying and overwhelming presence. As if the very tides of any battle could change when he and his army come onto the battle field.

      @@TabletopTimewell I can’t wait to see what other hombre characters come out of this custom alpha legion task force. Part of me thinks that for a demon prince it may take up bits of other beasts from Greek. Hell for a warlord titan. (Titanicus not forge word) I get the feeling its name would be inspired off of maybe either leviathan or even typhon.
