An underrated legion surely. In the games(and the "hunt for voldorius" novel), they're the punching bag and moustache-twirling villains. In novels (post-heresy notables are sons of the hydra, shroud of night and renegades harrowmaster), they are the force to be reckoned with, especially in latter (main character has been shown here, with dreads, demonic left arm and partial pale spear, think of him as alpha legion's answer to decimus from night lords trilogy).

Both of those may have already happened. According to the Siege of Terra books, there's thousands of Alpha Sleeper agents among the rest of the legion. Some are loyal playing a long con, some fell to chaos and its promises while others just fucked off into the galaxy.
Also I believe Alpharius was the 1st Primarch found but since the legion required both of them, you can't count it as a whole. Just 0.5 of a Primarch found so no point in counting them or trying to round up when their whole purpose is supposed to be espionage.

Dark Angels and Alpha Legion have a lot points of contrast, I've found. Besides being the first and the last, respectively, they also have contrasting cultures. The Dark Angels are paranoid as fuck, and the Alpha Legion are the ones who would make you paranoid if you knew their MO. Besides that, the Dark Angels (before the Lion's return, at least) had an ongoing thing about their loyalty being in question, while the Alpha Legion's betrayal may have been a lie this entire time. The two legions are also split between loyalist and traitor, the Dark Angels with their Fallen, Unforgiven, and now Risen subfactions, and the Alpha Legion with their Loyalist/Traitor split between their twin Primarchs' diverging motives.

A ship full of 500 Ultramarines has been in the warp for weeks. In the mess hall one day, 499 of them all draw bolt pistols and all shoot each other dead. The 500th guy, left alive and confused, was the only actual Ultramarine. The rest were all pretending the whole time, so well in fact that none of them figured out everyone else was also alpha legion (not real lore but a good example of the meme)

a whole chapter of space marines who are actually sleeper agents
and every time this chapter recruits new members and does the standard mind wipes or mental conditioning on them as any other chapter would, they actually put activation code into the mind of another astartes from the very startm meaning that not even chapter master or any actual member would know that
Like imagine this happening, a 1000 marins who all though themselves to be normal chapter like blood ravens and such, suddently turn to alpha legion because apharius comes back, says that he faked his death for 10k and then uses the code phrase to wake an entire chapter as if he was summoning some fuckin army out of nowhere

Another iconography trick of the Alpha legion(if we can believe it) is that the higher rank you are in a squad the less ornate your armour is. Drawing attention of would be assassins onto the lowest ranking member of the group. But at the same time Alpha Legionaires are all trained with more independence. So they can act alone when on stealth or infiltration missions. Which also leads to any Alpha legionaire being capable of taking command if their leader is killed. So who knows if that's true. Did you kill the seargent just for the nextguy in line to easily take control? Or did you kill the leastimportant person andleader is still around?
Even on a macro level this works. Cause when G-man killed supposedly Omegon. it didn't take long for the entire legion to rally, decimate the ultramarines ina counter attack, and nearly trapped G-man on the wrong side of the battlelines.

And alpharias is the image of the rest of the legion... While omegon is entirely unknown... The two primarchs are very much the same size as other primarchs.. the reason they say there head and shoulders taller... Because the legion just doesn't stop growing... The two prinarchas have two different ways of keeping out of sight... Omegon... Has chaos camelion abilities... And stealth... Light dispersion... While alpharias... The same just scientific... Tge third head is the legion... The just haven't individulized themselves yet...

There is a short story in Endless War called “Hunters Moon” about the Hydra visiting some small Ocean world. “I was there, the day the Hydra came to Pallago.”
It really shows how even other Astartes don’t know when they’re fighting an Astartes of the XXth OR their Primarch himselves….

The Hydras heads are the Legion itself and the two Brothers. Now what i like about thr Alpha Legion is the very same reason why i like Askeladd. They are bastards, likeable, cheeky, sneaky, smart bastards who do anything for the Ultimate Victory. They are sly, and are most likely Chaos by percentage of Legionaries being willfully servants of chaos. Their Leader Alpharius Omegon is most likely a Loyalist, and has a few warbands that reflect more of his true nature and intentions. Another thing is how many gaps you can fill and how you can essentially make shit up for them, and you will have a pretty high chance of it being correct. Whatever facts we do know about them we can use to try and discern the truth, even if its Sisyphusian in futility.
For instance, we know that AO has been confirmed actually dead by Dorn on Pluto. This was most likely, according to the Primarch Book, Omegon who was found Last. Alpharius the Loyalist one, who had been acting as Omegon since he had been discovered, then had to become Alpharius Omegon, answering to his first name once again up until he feigned his death during the Scouring.
Alpharius Chose to put Omegon at the front of the Alpha Legion because it allowed Alpharius to continue his work that we was groomed to do since his discovery in the Himalayas. Alpharius has always known the plan, Omegon didnt. Omegon wasnt privvy to his purpose or to the skills which is why he had ended up being turned towards Chaos, because while Omegon was being Noble in his sacrifice of Humanity for the Galaxy, that wasnt the plan. Now Alpharius is working from the Ultimate position of Secrecy, manipulating his Chaos legionaries to weaken themselves and to also bolster the Empire by targeting specific locations to get the attention of the Empire.
This, of course, could be a lie.

Dorn killed one because there was a true primarch death from that one, the lightshow and all.
Also basicly the dominant twin joined chaos on behalf of Cabal, because he thought that he was doing Emps work and the other one just quietly done everything to counterrac the dominant one, so the future tellling of the cabal wouldn't happen, then the dominant dies from dorn and the loyalist one fucks of with mixed legion of loyalists and traitors and quietly works to dismantle the traitors using his own mariens that fallen to chaos, because they didn't get the memo about still being loyal, even if fighting against lotalists.

That they are so deep into their espionage sauce that they can no longer remember what they are doing and why. They are a psyop that has gone completely off the rails, much like how their meme has grown into a massive out of control joke. To the point where two alpha legion members, running two different missions, have actually 0 ways to tell if the others alpha legion.
