in turtle 🐢 to have a solid defensive turtle you need to keep the elbow on the hips to seal off and protect that underhook space. and your base should be wide but mobile. you can windshield wiper or transition as needed. and your forehead should be on the mat w shoulders shrugged thus defending against chokes. in turtle if you literally shrug your shoulders and just turn slightly to face the opponent then there is no chokes available- especially if you sealed that underhook space properly i would recommend checking out priit mihkelson and also wim deputter and especially the turtle god eduardo telles on how to play turtle. turtle is such an intricate and awesome position to play with dozens of sweeps, submissions and counters.
