I don’t know what a smart key lock is, I just bought my house last month and it just donned on me to change my locks. This video was really helpful since I’ve never had to change a lock before. I was very hesitant since it took my apartment complex maintenance guy half a day to change out my locks. This looks really easy.
I know it’s been a year since your post. I’m a locksmith and completely agree if to rekey or change your locks when moving into a new home every time. But most forget to erase the garage opener memory and reprogram your remotes. Remember to do this as well. In case your not aware home warranties now pay for one rekey with a $75 deductible Everyone should know these smart key locks are known to fail at anytime. Although I personally believe locks only keep honest people out. Kwikset smart locks can be defeated with just a flat head screw driver. That’s how terrible the design is. And do not recommend them.

Just moved into my home and stopped by the 3rd time to drop some boxes off. I noticed that the regular lock was unlocked. So there’s still someone out there with a copy of the old key
Thanks for the video. Short, concise, practical and very informative. With a glass door, is it worth considering a double cylinder deadbolt to prevent trespassers from just breaking the glass and reaching in to unlock the door?
That's a fairly common practice but I didn't think it was necessary as they could just break out the entire window on this particular door and walk through the opening. If you have small windows on the door or right next to the door that option would be your best bet.
Sr. What is the seguiré house and inside house room door (in case we rent a room,) luck. I went to Walmart to buy a luck then, I went to RUclips and they teach me how to open the combination luck on seconds. What can we do to trust in all those lucks. ❤
On this type of lock, there is a little lever on the locking bolt that allows to you actually extend the bolt shaft to get it centered. I watched this video and picked up these units but realized he didnt mention that; its very handy. Hope that helps someone else. Great video.
We are unable to remove the cylinder (tumbler/spindle) after removing the exterior and interior locks. It spins around a little, but doesn’t slide out. It’s the Defiant door lock and deadbolt. What could we do about this?
I have a front door, back door and garage door - all with deadbolts as well. If I key them all the same will I just end up with two keys that open all the locks?
My brother wouldn't give me back the key to my house. A few years ago he replaced the deadbolt & doorknob set on the front door. Dummy got them keyed alike. So when he didn't give me back the key, I replaced the deadbolt. So now ya gotta have TWO keys to open the door & he only has ONE. He tried to get in & said:"You changed the locks, didn't ya." I just smiled & said: "Yup." So satisfying & I saved money learning how to do this🤣
Did you get it? If not on the inside of the door there's a small and I mean small notch in the round brace that's against the door. Pry it up with a tool and there should be screws under it. I'm about to go try mine rn but I remember hearing that from my childhood.
I have the bottom lock on my bedroom door but when you push on it hard it just opens even when locked. Can I change that with a dead bolt like the top lock you attached at the top
Sorry. It was an oversite from another diy description. I don't have any sponsors but I do link to things that I like or use. It would be cool if they were though. lol. Although... I've already purchased most of their gear so I don't really need anything from them. : ) Hope the video helped!
Kwikset smartkey locks can be forced open. They also have pot metal and aluminum and plastic in them. They are also poorly made and cheaply made and low quality. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend kwikset smartkey locks and I wouldn't use them.
I have never changed a door handle & deadbolt lock, but this makes it look much easier than I thought.
you rekeyed at the end of the video?
i thought the newly installed lock already came with its own set of new keys

Sharing this to my real estate page! Really helpful walkthrough!
Thanks! Typically the very first thing we do after closing is go change all the locks, except for our previous home which was new construction.

This installation doesn’t have a segment where I get yelled out thank you
May God bless you. Thank you so much for sharing. This will be shared with all of my homegirls!! 💜💜
Update : I just got done with all 3 doors. I did the Brinks from Walmart. I did just fine and fast!! 🤩🤩
Thankyou for the info ! Very straight forward as I am changing the door locks on my new home soon

Why would you have to rekey the lock if you already changed the whole lock itself

Double cylinder then requires you to use the key to exit, which may be very often vs. a potential breaking in that door which you hope won’t happen.
If the kit comes with a key, why do you have to use the tool to set the lock?
That part!
Simple and to the point. Thank you!
Straight to the point.
Excellent post 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Great video👍🏼I’m ready now, so easy to do and plus you save some money by doing it yourself🤩gracias
Very helpful, thank you!

I would like to know to replace the regular door handles with lock ones
Need to learn how to do this
Cant wait
OK I’m missing something here. The key is the same for all of those different locks how is that safe?
Can you explain how it’s not
Are these all set to the same sizes or can I buy some that the lock bolt and knob bolt extend out further??

I have this same problem did you ever get it figured out?
@@jasmineprice2645 We tried harder and it slid out.
Thank you for your reply I finally got mine’s out
You should change the strike for colour matching

Crazy ex won’t give me my key back. Got a surprise for his ass 😛

What did you use to get the deadbolt you did so fast
To remove it
How do I change it from rounded edges to squared edges. I can’t seem to remove that plate which is on the deadbolt side
How would you remove a knob that doesn’t have screws? Thanks

What about on metal doors like in a basement building where the boiler is at?
I just started a job and my boss wants me to change all the locks on these type of metal doors..is it basically the same?
Wow thank you. Now I don't have to hire a locksmith and I can save money
It's actually really easy to do. After you change the first one you can swap out locks in less than 5 minutes.
I have the bottom lock on my bedroom door but when you push on it hard it just opens even when locked. Can I change that with a dead bolt like the top lock you attached at the top
Thank you! Useful Tips!
So cool thanks fr sharing
How Do You Take It Off Of Your Lock If Your Door Won't Open
Thank you Sir
Schlage is great
What kinda of locks are these
You listed a resip and circ saw in the tools used - was there a part we didnt see, or was that your Ryobi contractor kit plug? Haha

Great video! God bless!
Good job.
Thank you.
Thx for the video
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped.
gracias
why someone want glass door in toilet? wtf
thanks
You're welcome!
If you have a glass door those locks aren't going to stop anybody.
The best lock is useless if the door frame isn't strong!
glass door lol and other parts is wooden. 1 kick enough
Deadbolt lock on glass door.
Try using a different color background next time. The doorknob is practically the same color as your countertop
Don't get a cheap lock, it is easy for burglars to hack.
My kitchen is better than yours
