"A Song of Ice and Fire (commonly abbreviated as ASoIaF) is an ongoing series of epic fantasy novels by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Martin began writing the series in 1991 and the first volume was published in 1996.
The story of A Song of Ice and Fire takes place in a fictional world, primarily on a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east, known as Essos. Most of the characters are human but as the series progresses others are introduced, such as the cold and menacing supernatural Others from the far North and fire-breathing dragons from the East, both thought to be extinct by the humans of the story. There are three principal story lines in the series: the chronicling of a dynastic civil war for control of Westeros among several competing families; the rising threat of the Others, who dwell beyond an immense wall of ice that forms Westeros' northern border; and the ambition of Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter of a king who was murdered in another civil war fifteen years before, to return to Westeros and claim her rightful throne. As the series progresses, the three story lines become increasingly interwoven and dependent upon each other."
"Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. A second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros's northern border."

Who's your favourite Umber?

Crowfood, I mean look at him!
My boy Smalljon 😢
The Greatjon, his King in the North speech is Great!
Smalljon Umber dude picked up a wooden feasting table that was probably bolted to the ground to shield Robb at the red wedding, Smalljon gets a bad rap because of the tv show shit version but I personally think smalljon would've been one hell of a Kingsguard. RIP my boi smalljon.
I low key love Whoresbane ngl
One thing I love about the northern houses is you read up on them and you go “wow this house is the most insane group of mad bastards ever” and then GRRM is like “but wait there’s more”
The first men are just built different.
All the (very little) chill went to the Starks and the rest are just batshit
@@nickbenton4881 id say Manderlys are the chillest ones.
@stepanpazderka5497 but is that because they originally came from the Reach, and have less First Men blood?
@@jinxcraft1170 they are first men as well they just come from a different area they existed before the anduls showed up
The Umbers are basically the second line of defense behind the Wall. Because of that I would not be surprised if there is a battle at Last Hearth at some point.
I just realised that if Hother had actually become a maester, he would have been a chained giant.
We all know GRRM based a lot of Westeros on things that exist in the United Kingdom irl, like The Wall being inspired by Hadrian's Wall, for example. And the eastern half of Hadrian's Wall is in Northumberland - North Umber Land. George's creativity knows no bounds.
YES I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the Northumberland connection
He out here Umbering this Hearth! Northern houses making me feel properly festive this winter! Love it! 🤎❤
“Fall of the House of Umber”
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE LORD HAVEN.
👌
What is
@@sportsshinobicomo la caída de la casa Usher de Edgar Allan Poe, quizás??
During a ck2 agot game playing as the Umber, i once found a Valyrian steel sword during a Campaign in the service of the Starks and dubbed it "Chains Breaker". I thought it to be apt.
👍
House Umber doesn’t have any bland or boring characters in the main story, good for the Giants, not a lot of Houses can claim that honour. Also in Seasons Six of the show (I’m sorry for bringing it up) House Umber is one of the four most powerful vassals of the Starks alongside the Manderlys, Boltons and Karstarks. I feel like that could be true in the main series anyone agree? And if so what would they be ranked?
I think in the books, I'd replace the Karstarks with the Dustins. Barrowton's a large and important settlement.
I say:
1-Manderly
2-Bolton (realistically they don't seem to be that powerful but there must be a reason for them to keep up with the starks)
3-Karstark: their heavy cavalry is constantly mentioned
4-Dustin because of Barrowtown
5-Umber
I always got the impression that the greatjon was more respected and a powerful personality than a powerful vassal, but not in a shitty way. Rob earning his respect was pretty much the signal to everyone else that the kid was worth a shot.
Thank you Lord Haven for this video on The House of Jolly Giants for the winter season it's perfect.
I commend you for your attention to the canon in the art! Drawing Robb with and without a beard based on when it's described that he shaves in the book does not go unnoticed!
Lmao Ser Merrett Frey faceplanting on the table was such a good touch, great video as always Lord Haven
George went unnecessary hard on Mors Umber’s design, best viking-esque look ive ever heard in any book.
Also the animation with the Freys getting drunk with Greatjon made me laugh outloud, it was great!
That is facts mors is unreasonably badass
Finally the giant daddies of the North
I can't wait to see more of their storyline in Winds, they're more clever than some give them credit for and their one of the most significant houses to the Northern storyline
I love how you drew Sleepy Jack.
It would be so cool if the great Jon gets released but he keeps his irons attached with a bit of broken chain to be the image of his house sigil
WOW!!
I never knew that Smalljon was guard of Robb... Its so different in the show WOW. I am shocked xD
I like to think that the bit about the Night’s King being an Umber, Bolton, Flynt or Stark or however many families is literally true. Like a fun wink from GRRM that he is born to parents that had blood of all those families but had the surname Snow or maybe Stark. Is that crazy? We see case with the Stark children having blood from House Stark, Tully, Whent and at least half a dozen other houses if you go far back enough.
It’s also possible that it was so long ago that whichever house the night king was from wasn’t anything of those at all. It was their father house. It might’ve been the progenitor house from which sprang all the other northern houses before they were even a thing. Like a common ancestor type thing
Exactly this
Ah, the Late Lord Haven is now the Early Lord Haven. It isnt Winter yet, and we have a winter-themed video!
Good video though, keep this great content up!
Loving all your animated House history videos. I hope you continue to do many more. I would love to see one on House Blackwood.
the more I learn about book Stannis the more I like him.
Love the Umber crown.
In my headcanon this family is the one which in average packs the most in all of westeros
I DEMAND!!! You make a vid on house crakehall next
This videos meat… is bloody tough!
Great video!
Only GRRM could create "Whoresbane" and "Crowfood" into a single family. Man, that guy can write.
u dropped at exactly 12 lol
Please do a history video on the iron islands.
Crowfood was taken for dead after a battle and lost his eye to a crow, not on the side of a road. It's after a battle.
“The Fall in the House of Umber” lol I didn’t expect an EAP reference here. EAP is amazing.
for some reason george really cooked when it came to the umbers, design, history, all 🙏🙏🙏
Great video, could you do a video about house karstark?
I rise from my slumber to be regaled by Umber! Today is a good day
ITS OUT LETS GOOOOO
I really want to see the great jon freed and goes on a rampage against every enemy he sees. But that might just be wishful thinking for me.
The late lord Haven grants us his presence 1800 in the evening. Ruffians on the road, mayhaps?
Mr haven I think a video on the twins of Westeros could be cool like the cargylls, redwynes and wildling kings
You should make a video about theories how the different houses in Westeros got their Valyrian Steel weapons.
The Greatjon is Azor Ahai. Btw, I saw what you did there with the last sentence. Someone's been reading Poe, it seems
The northern Houses are the Most interesting in my opinion maybe because they have such a great Focus
The first kings of the Barrows, house Dustin when???
I personally love the Umbers they are huge and grumpy but they also loyal as f*ck and hype men beyond compare
I wanted crowfood in the show. He is badass. Should have been played by Brian Blessed.
I hope we see the great John at the red wedding2.o
@@Darius-_ There’s a theory Lady Stoneheart and the BwB will enact a second Red Wedding (at Riverrun most likely) at Daven Lannister’s wedding to a Frey girl
Appreciate the Poe reference
Don't forget the like button ❤
The great john is also the name of the toilet Gregor Clegane uses.
Let’s see a “house Florent” video
❤️
If George RR Martin touches anymore of our beloved Umbers, we the fans are going to make him into a pie.
Always hated how GOT made the Smalljon a Bolton lackey
Your subscribers want a video on who will get Rosby in the WoW and want you to tell us why it should be Perwyn Frey. Thank you Merry Christmas
Wow, I did not realize how one Last Week Tonight joke featured that many plot details for a decade-old book lmao
The show really got House Umber wrong in season 6.
TIL: Giants have furry feet like Hobbits :)
Giants are furry everywhere, they're basically giant apes (albeit smarter).
Another nanger of a northern house.
I like the Umbers, so I hope it’s not true that they are still practicing the First Night. Even if they are as Northern as Northmen get, I like to think their respect for the Stark’s rule overrules any wish to back to “the good old days” and that Roose is full of shit.
Maybe Hoarfrost or some other less moral Umber practiced it during Roose's lifetime and he's just generalising.
