    "A Song of Ice and Fire (commonly abbreviated as ASoIaF) is an ongoing series of epic fantasy novels by American novelist and screenwriter George R. R. Martin. Martin began writing the series in 1991 and the first volume was published in 1996.
    The story of A Song of Ice and Fire takes place in a fictional world, primarily on a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east, known as Essos. Most of the characters are human but as the series progresses others are introduced, such as the cold and menacing supernatural Others from the far North and fire-breathing dragons from the East, both thought to be extinct by the humans of the story. There are three principal story lines in the series: the chronicling of a dynastic civil war for control of Westeros among several competing families; the rising threat of the Others, who dwell beyond an immense wall of ice that forms Westeros' northern border; and the ambition of Daenerys Targaryen, the exiled daughter of a king who was murdered in another civil war fifteen years before, to return to Westeros and claim her rightful throne. As the series progresses, the three story lines become increasingly interwoven and dependent upon each other."
    "Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. A second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros's northern border."
    Footage from Game of Thrones used under fair use.

    I have an alternate fantasy I've been thinking about: how drastically different would Westeros be if Queen Rhaenys had a baby girl instead of baby Aenys? In my proposed AU, Rhaenys and Aegon name their daughter Valaena to honor their mother.
    Visenya still has Maegor, so in this timeline we have King Maegor and Queen Valaena.
    How does the Faith respond?
    How many children do they have? Do any survive?

    Would the Dance of the Dragons still happen?

    Absolutely love this idea. I've also been interested in "what if?" scenarios for ASoIaF.
    One scenario I'd really like to see is how the political structure of Westeros may have evolved had Aegon the Conqueror never invaded and united most of the realms. Would another house have eventually dominated Westeros? If so, how? It's mentioned that the Storm Kings were in decline (save for the early reign of Argilac) during the 1st century BC, could they have gone extinct or became a vassal to House Hoare or another great house?

    • @SherlockHolmesb-kp4ru
      @SherlockHolmesb-kp4ru 5 месяцев назад +4

      Nope it would remain the way it was for thousands of years a petty squabbling backwater continent

    • @NeonManStuff
      @NeonManStuff 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@SherlockHolmesb-kp4ru Possibly, however much of the great houses' histories involve them gradually absorbing their neighbours and transforming them into vassals. Who's to say the same thing couldn't continue happening?
      The Reach used to be composed of four kingdoms as opposed to one. One of these was the kingdom of the marcher lords, who have now fractured and been split between the Reach and Stormlands (with the houses' loyalty now split). Could a similar division of loyalty and gradual eating of the land not occur again?
      Not to mention, another one of the former reach kingdoms was the kingdom of the Hightowers, which controlled all of the houses along the Honeywine and up to the Red Mountains (all of which then became vassals to the Gardeners). The kingdom agreed to merge with the Reach to better combat and defend itself from the Ironborn, despite being fairly powerful on its own, so such an event occuring is not impossible for this universe.
      Perhaps the swelling power of the Hoares could convince either the Westerlands, Reach or Stormlands to merge for better military support. Maybe a new house would be created from the union of two great houses to oversee both regions (such as House Goldenhand or Stormer).
      All this being said, thematically it probably would make more sense for it to require either the power of a dragon or the existential threat of the Others to unite the continent (as the men of Westeros can seeimingly only be united by ice or fire).

    • @KaiHung-wv3ul
      @KaiHung-wv3ul Месяц назад +1

      @@NeonManStuff I don't see the borders of Dorne, the Vale, or the North changing that much, the Gardeners might carve up the Stormlands(taking the marches and Cape Wrath) with the Hoares. The Hoares might turn their sights to their ancestral rivals of the Lannisters, and I bet the Velaryons or Targaryens will still intervene in Westeros without Aegon.
      However I feel like the Hoares are ultimately doomed for failure, and rebellions in the Stormlands, Riverlands, and maybe even the Iron Islands, funded by Highgarden and Casterly Rock will ultimately overthrow them. In which case these regions will probably once more split into warring kingdoms, only to reunite, either through conquest by the Lannisters, Gardeners, or Arryns, or united by a more powerful house like the Vances, Freys, or whoever ends up controlling Harrenhal.

    • @NeonManStuff
      @NeonManStuff 5 месяцев назад +1

      I was thinking about suggesting the same idea. However I do worry that we may lack enough information about pre-andal Westeros to be able to guess how things could have advanced.
      Once possibility could be that, if the Andals never invaded, the North would be able to gather more allies in the south through their shared religion (due to the absence of the Faith of the Seven) and grow to possibly conquer parts of the Riverlands and Vale.

Robb never marries Jeyne Westerling, maintaining the alliance with House Frey, Catelyn never/fails to release Jamie, keeping the events which led to Robb's execution of Rickard Karstark from occurring, and finally, Robb lets Edmure in on his plan to lure Tywin's army into the Westerlands, preventing the Battle of the Fords from occurring and Tywin from saving King's Landing during the Battle of the Blackwater. Great video! I think the Blackfyres definitely had the chance to take the Iron Throne at a few points, but there were always going to be some kind of obstacles actually holding onto it. Especially with how close Dorne was to the Throne at some of these points and the various anti-Dornish lords apart of the faction, a conflict in Dorne would be inevitable and wars fought in Dorne never go well.
    "What If Viserys Married Laena Velaryon?" could be an interesting one. It could potentially be Rhaenyra vs. the Velaryons and led to other completely different marriages and alliances.

    A "what if" that's been stuck in my mind for a while, is what if Robert succumbed to his wounds at the Battle of the Trident. Like he was wounded after he killed Rhaegar, so it was very possible and it's a far more interesting "What if" then him just losing the battle. With one last big defeat, the Targaryen forces were done no matter what, but how would the rebellion really function in the aftermath. Also, with the death of Big Bobby B, the Lannister might be slower to responded and have to change plans, maybe even march towards Storm's End instead. I mean if Tywin wanted to butter up the rebellion, he might try and save Stannis instead. He would be the Heir of the rebellion after Robert's death. Which would lead to the Stark Forces reaching King's Landing First, I still think Jaime would kill the Mad King, but the aftermath would be way more chaotic.
    I can probably write 2-3 more paragraphs of this idea, but I don't feel like boring y'all. But just to share possible endings from this idea, there would have to be another Great Council to pick the next king. Yeah, Stannis would probably be chosen, but if the Stark's had taken King's landing, there would be no sacking or kid-killing. This means little Aegon, Rhaenys, and Elia Martell would still be alive, yeah Viserys and Daenerys would still be out there. But there will be more claims being seen. Plus, an unsuspecting chance of a possible Stark takeover.
    Like yeah Stannis is like 90% going to get it. But Eddard was leading forces, married to another great house in the Tullys and spent many years in the Vale. If the Tower of Joy stayed the same, then he would also have given back Dawn which would just give him more renown. Plus, if the rebellion allows the defected houses to vote, I don't think the Reach would want Stannis to win. Since you know, their probally afraid he holds a grudge. While Dorne would see him returning Dawn and sparing Elia Martell and her children as a plus. Not even mention the North, it's hard to not see the possibility of the realm picking our boy Nedd.
    But then again, Jon Arryn might not fully support Nedd, because like Nedd himself, probably sees it through the eyes of Stannis being next in line(Justice and all of that). Then Tywin would try and push for Stannis since Stannis can marry Cersei. His Faith would be a problem for some (sort of counterbalance with being married to Catelyn). And the fact that if Nedd spoke on the matter first, he would probably put his name out of the running right away and support Stannis.
    But if other people speak for their support for Nedd first, then there is a chance for King Eddard Start to be a possibility. (I could say more but I rather not write an essay on this idea.)

      @@SaltoDaKid I don't think it would really matter if a lot of lords aren't familiar with Stannis, he'd still be Robert's heir AND unmarried. Knowing Tywin, he would probably want to marry him to Cersei if he still sided with the Rebels with both Robert and Rhaegar dead.
      Even then I still don't think it would be Jon. Either baby Aegon would still be alive, Rhaegar's firstborn son would have a much stronger claim than him, or Viserys, who would be older than both and was named heir by Aerys after Rhaegar's death over Aegon (who Tywin also supposedly wanted to marry to Cersei).

    Alternate history is one of my favorite fantasy genres. I really enjoyed this video. I hope you expand the concept to a regular series featuring Westorosoi alternate history.

Or simply: What if any of the past attempts to hatch the dragon was successful, like the Dragonbane’s attempt, Daemon II Blackfyre’s attempt, Aegon the Unlikely, Mad King Aerys II’s attempt, etc

      That's a really good idea! Given that different houses in the same regions supported different sides of the conflict, it could completely transform the borders of the seven kingdoms as we know them (although it would be more likely that the eight regions of the seven kingdoms would remain the same - with individual regions simply being split amongst the two sides).

    Daemon has so many kids that it's more realistic that instead of swapping Lord Paramounts in all kingdoms they only do it for places like the westerlanders and reach and daemon marries his many kids into the lord Paramounts of the vale, Riverlands, stormlands and maybe even marry his kids to the yronwoods to give the martells something to worry about. His kids are genuinely his biggest advantage to securing the realm.

    I love the alt fantasy! I would be interested to see your take on what would have happened if the Andal Invasion failed, especially in the Vale. Also alternate timelines for the main series: Stannis doesn't kill Renly with a shadow baby, perhaps going after King's Landing first like the King's Men suggest; Edmure allows (or is unable to prevent) Tywin's crossing of the Trident, so Tywin can't stop the fall of KL; Theon is more competent when meeting with Balon and convinces him to invade the Westerlands for the greater plunder; Robb doesn't marry Jeyne Westerling so no Red Wedding but he's still losing the war and has to retake Moat Cailin from the ironborn; Oberyn isn't killed by the Mountain that Rides, and he and Tyrion sail to Dorne to crown Myrcella as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. There are so many cool options. Can't wait to see what you do next with 'What If?'

      I think Leo Longthorn must have had a pretty favourable position on the small council or something, or just wanted to retain the status quo. Even though the Stormlands is historically anti-Dornish, they didn't outright support either side at the onset of the war. I'm guessing since Jena Dondarrion was married to the crown prince, and the reality that the king (Valarr) would eventually be half-Stormlander played a part in their eventual support of Daeron. Also, seeing Baelor Breakspear riding north through the Stormlands with a considerable Dornish host likely scared them into choosing the Targaryen side.
