This whole concert is amazing, with the entire second act having that orchestra. The fact that they played Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Octavarium in their entirety with that full symphony was just magical.
So, the parabolic mirror on Portnoy’s kit is so he can see the orchestra conductor and hit certain cues. The whole show is great, one of my favorite that I own. Good stuff!
Song and performances like this are why Mike Portnoy is in my top 10 favorite drummers of all time out of every genre of music ever made. Perfect technique and a great showman all around.
You should react to early live performances or the studio recordings. “On December 30, 1994, while vacationing in Cuba, LaBrie was stricken with a severe case of food poisoning from contaminated pork and while vomiting, he ruptured his vocal cords. He saw three throat specialists who all said there was nothing they could do except have him rest his voice as much as possible.” James’s didn’t feel like his voice was fully healed until 2002, although he lost some vocal range that he never got back. The albums after 1995 were sung with his “post poisoning” voice so they wrote the songs accordingly. The stuff prior to the poisoning had his stellar voice and range intact. He can’t hit the high notes with the crisp clarity that he once could.
I bought this after work when it came out. I bought two CDs that day, I got about halfway home when I put this CD in. I actually had to pull over, I was struck so hard by this song. It had just hit the shelves, and I'd never heard of them. These guys are some of the most talented and well trained musicians in any band, ever. You might want to try something from Liquid Tension Experiment. It's an offshoot band from Dream Theater. Most of the members, plus Tony Levin, of King Crimson on bass / Chap,an Stick, etc. Fantastic offshoot of Dream Theater.
The drummer, Mike Portnoy, rejoined the band start of 2024 after being gone for 14 yrs. They are putting the finishing touches on a new album now and will begin their 40th anniversary tour soon. It should hit the US in 2025. That will be a must see.
Finally more dream theater reaction again, I've been following the wolf hunterz for a very long time and waiting for people to request dream theater, to the point that I always repeat other dream theater reactions, if you remember, that live was one list with the songs six degrees and sacrifice sons which I always listen here, because I see your reactions which are very fun and exciting,, and also because I still can't pay for the request 🤣 Good job and always waiting for more dream theater in here 🤟🙏
Part 1 was a song on Images and Words. Part 2 was a concept album. You guys should do Octavarium live from this same show, it's amazing with the orchestra.

My favorite DT song ever!
This song is really a miracle.
Just the best live band on the planet. That's all.
If I had a favorite band it would be Dream Theater.

Amazing
Band of Gods 😎

Part 2 is a full concept album.

This dying soul - Budokan live 2004 - Don't thx me
Wow
That album is one of the best live albums of all time
:Dvd:
React Dream Theater: In the name of god, live at budokan please
The orchestra strings sound way off key, tells you how challenging the sound situation was for them.
could not make it two minutes with y'all........horrible
