The whole album (Metropolis Pt. 2 : Scenes from a Memory) would absolutely blow you away. This song has even more of an impact when you know the story behind it.
Dream Theater is my favourite band for the last 25 years. And it's always interesting to see how people react listening to their music for the first time. They play so many different kinds of music, from heavy and complex, to progressive and epic, to soft and peaceful. So if you had listened to The Glass Prison for example you would have a completely different reaction and you would not believe it's the same band that wrote this exact song. But apart from that i really enjoyed your reaction to this. Your focus, your enthusiasm, and your love for what you hear was so original and true that made me smile watching you. This song is indeed a beautiful ballad from them, and it's always getting love when it's played live. They surely know how to compose music that creates so many emotions to people. Another song you could react to at some other time, would be Barstool Warrior or Breaking all illusions. You are not going to be disappointed either way, i can guarantee that. Much love from Greece!
Wonderful reaction, please do more Dream Theater, they have so many beautiful songs. From the more complex and long ones to the more simple and minimal…The rabbit hole is soooo deep….
It's even more funny since the original name of the band was Majesty. Especially given the joking about the name. Early on, another band with the same name threatened to sue them so they changed it.
This is a life saver song!!! My parents best friend and significant other all passed away in the span of 2 years. If it weren't for this incredibly beautiful song I doubt I would have survived the pain. Gave me comfort beyond words. Thank you both for this and my deepest gratitude to Dream Theater. Bless all whom read this.
Yep... The Feels. My wife and I saw Dream Theater perform this and the whole album live in concert in 2000, on their "Scenes From a Memory Tour". Classic! 🌎✌🌱🎶🎸
Great Reaction!!! This is an awesome band and you can categorize this music but realistically, it’s just unique that can be categorized in different ways. Many bands had taken their influence…
I love your reactions and to see and listen to you react to Dream Theater is a real treat for me. I have seen this band in concert more than any other band by far and they are such a joy to behold, sonically and visually. For many they are too technical and too complicated. This was a very good song and experience to react too, from a wonderful album. You two are such a treasure. Thank you!
Amazing reaction! Thank you! I really am a fan of your reactions. Now with this Dream Theater reaction, you have reacted to all of my favorite bands, and have enjoyed them all. I really like the way you both appreciate such a variety of music, share it with each other, and share that with us.
Very truly reactions. Welcome to the Dream theater world. Spirit Carry ,Yes it's a ballad. Dream theater is Metal? No! They are Progressive Metal, ( they are founder of that genre). Spirit Carry on, it's a part of Story. It's one song of the album "Scene from memory". Most of Dream theater songs are "hard" or "Metal". some part "Dark metal" but they had done also lot of "soft" song. On the long carrier they had touch a lot of time the death theme, the most beautiful song about, in mine opinion, Are: "A change of season" , dedicate at the premature death in airplane disaster of the drummers mother. "The best of time": Dedicate to drummers father that is die due a cancer, Drummer had write the song during the father still alive , but he is die before it was complete. Remember most of the song is not easy listening, continuous tempo change, continuous change key, and not a simple riff, but almost all the lyric is great and are connected to the music. After all It's Progressive Metal. If you want listen how they can do, i suggest : "Octavarium" ( live version it's amazing), a roller coaster of type of music , start for classic , and touch almost all genre in only one song. "Illuminations theory" ( live at Boston opera ), Metropolis part one ( live at Boston opera) "Count of Tuscany" Due they had done 15 album in over 35 years of carrier you have a lot of song to choice, and during all this years every album had Dream Theater touch, but different feeling sometime more Metal sometime more Progressive . Dream Theater has always been one of my favorite bands along with Maiden, Priest and Rush. They are all virtuosoes on their instruments, yet they have so much feelings in their songs. They make long progressive epics, really heavy riff based metal songs, but also lots of ballads like this one. Hoping for more reactions to them. I want to recommend Change of Seasons live from New York.
