    I don’t resonate very well at higher registers. This helps a lot, even if I sound ridiculous following this video.

    Love you, Sophie, and your instructions are both accurate, and refreshing. Coming from some "old school" methods from years ago, I have been making some mistakes with my voice that other instruction did not help me find and erase. Your explanation and examples of resonator placement is the clearest I have found. I am now healing from years of lessons that fortunately did no real damage to my chords, just left me with a very dark voice, placed too far back. Your short lessons here have lightened and brightened my voice, and I have added 6 reliable tones to the top of my range! When I can afford private instruction I would choose you! Thank you!

    My placement is the nose ridge. It gets me to mix and relax my sound. I did WAH for about 1 month (2 hours a day) and got it down lol. I really hear the resonance now. My vocal coach said it was in my speaking voice so I knew I had it. Thanks for the video.

    WOW!!! You are good!!! Just putting my finger under my nose helped me straighten my pitch/ breath out. This is the most common range for folksters like Paul Simon/Art Garfunkel, Janis Ian, Fairport Convention, Joni, james T...etc... I have the sweet tone, but was struggling with pitch/volume. I have been practicing a lighter higher pitched sound in breathy head voice...but this brings it all together. THANKS.

    It's interesting that opera voice teachers say pretty much the same about the voice as pop voice teachers. Given that that's the case, why do pop voices sound so flat, while opera voices have a rich vibrato, not to mention a much broader range sung in full voice, however, rather than in falsetto as is the case in pop or musicals.

    Can I access the Mix register if I'm not done in my puberty? Because I think my voice is changing, and even I do some exercise it's not gonna work?
    Please answer me coach!😢 I'm struggling almost 1 year. 😭

    • @1108vocalstudio

      You can still access your mix voice! It may feel a bit wonky, but try to push through the wiggles to find new growth. But I understand your frustration. When your body is changing, you may have to adjust to a new normal! But don't lose hope, you got this!

    i just confused....does the pharyngeal placement should have sound that nasal?if it is a no, how to fix that nasal sound when you place your voice at the pharynx?

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 лет назад +1

      It sounds too whiny until you sing with words. Then it just sounds edgy, piercing and loud, which is a good thing.

  • @nickrhodes4834
    @nickrhodes4834 5 лет назад +3

    Is it accurate to say that for speaking we also need a little bit of that pharyngeal resonance to have a strong voice or it’s only used for singing?

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  5 лет назад +2

      Hi Nick. We all speak a little bit in pharyngeal (girls more than guys). The pharynx lifts the pressure off of chest voice, creating a piercing, strong sound. But chest voice is strong too. I wouldn't worry too much about adding pharyngeal to your chest voice while speaking, unless you project your voice without a microphone for work or something.

    Hi sophie how do i add power because i think my mixed voice is kinda light.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  4 года назад

      Hey Kento! A great way to add power is by adding attack at the initial onset of cord connection. Practice going up and down your mix range with short staccato movements. First at a light volume and then adding more once you've found good resonance. You can even go as far as making monkey noises - short staccato "ooh ooh AH AH's". Pulling in some pharyngal whine!

    Is there any exercise for screaming like Chester Bennington?
    does it need false chord?
    i tried to do vocal fry exercise but it makes my voice more thinner😂

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  7 лет назад

      The reason why your fry sounds too thin is probably because you aren't using enough air. Try putting your hand in front of our mouth. You should feel a small amount of hot air on your hand. Vocal fry should be very slow and lazy. Try slowing it down. Another thing to think of is, can you fry and sing different notes at the same time. Try frying while going up half steps. Can you hear the note and the fry at the same time? If not, just practice. Then, when you get really close to a microphone, it will sound like your screaming.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  4 года назад +1

      Hey Miguel! It is difficult to give in depth feedback without hearing you sing, but try adding your pharyngeal voice or attempt mixing earlier in your range. Don't wait until you begin getting to a high range. The sooner you add in your pharyngeal sound the more delicate your approach. If you're having scratch or grit pull back on your volume and try singing the song through a straw! If you would like more information, head to our website www.sophieshear.com

    Hi I got a question I stated to sing in mix and I love it. I am slowly building it and now I am getting used to it but I get this weird sensation underneath my jaw like its vibrating but it stays there for a while. Is it normal? I just never felt this before and I get worried sometimes.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  7 лет назад

      Great question! Usually when singers say they can't sing quietly, it's because they do have tension. My question to you is this; How do you know you don't have tension when you are singing higher?

  • @michaela2776
    @michaela2776 2 года назад

    I don’t like the idea of different registers. It depends on the singer. A tenor will always sing in the middle register. The guy will a low voice will always sing in chest. Can you imagine Michael Jackson sing in chest?

  • @tinaclementetamayo8788

    Can you apply this on classical?

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  4 года назад

      You can apply this to classical music; however, classical technique is deeply routed in developing a strong head voice. This video is more directed to help navigate transitions or "breaks" between our resonators, which will ultimately help in classical music.

  • @bpetii1

    I think its a good explanation but she leaves out ( on purpose? ) some really important resonators. As I learned, not just the "nose" but the forehead and your paranasal sinuses are also crucially important, especially the higher the note is the higher and more focused the placement is in your head, you have to feel on the top of your head if its well-done. :-) Other than that, I agree with her.

    • @1108vocalstudio
      @1108vocalstudio  6 лет назад +5

      Hi Peter. I like to keep it simple for people who don't know a lot about the voice. Getting super detailed will sometimes confuse people.
