I watched this episode when it came on channel 5 last week. It’s so sweet that Dian and Jovian are now friends. Yes students have different perspectives of their peers. It’s reality and sad that most don’t end up becoming friends like Dian and Jovian. A little intervention and Dian sees a different perspective of Jovian. Kudos to the production team and Mother Mazni for making this happen. There’s a moral to take back from here. Give your peers a chance and see what happens. If a friendship blossoms, cool. If it doesn’t, it’s ok, you tried. All the best Dian and Jovian. Also kudos to all other parents and kids for putting yourself through to show us a glimpse of secondary school life. I joked to my son that I should follow him for his JC lessons and he just laughed haha.
I remember my past as I saw Jovianne. Because i am mildly autistic, i was friendless and was bullied by many students and even the teachers back in primary school in johor, before i came to Singapore in 2010, and the bullying gradually ceased over the years. Plus, i find Jovianne resembles my mother, because my mother talks loudly and tough as nails, but she is one of the nicest persons I know by heart

Please watch the full episode. There's always 2 sides to a story and we got to see Joviannne story here. Plus c'mon to all commenters, didn't you all face or see incidents where one person was singled out and left behind? No one did anything then. Mazni had a chance to see it happen in front of her eyes and she educated Dian the right thing to do. Dian did it and they both became friends at the end. Now that's an exemplary mother for stepping up when she saw something off. No one is perfect, neither are all of you. Everyone has a learning journey and so do you. So please stop finding fault in everything here and appreciate the learning journey 2 kids had through this show. Parents don't get to see the reality of their child behind their backs and the four of them here did. Instead of calling a child out, why not look around you and see if someone is left behind for any reasons? Why not give it a shot and talk to them and see? Know their story and react accordingly? Thank you Mazni, Jovian and Dian for showing us the truth of what is happening around us.

On using education to reduce inequality, Prof Tambyah pointed out that school- and class-ranking be scrapped. Schools will not segregate pupils according to their examination results.
Have you tried teaching 2 students with totally different learning ability in 30min. Eg putting a 3 yo learning ability and a 7 yo learning ability together and learn the same topic. One has yet to learn ABC due to family situation, understimulate or poor understanding, the other is a regular cognitive ability and was able to read the whole book like others. putting them in the same class, teaching them the same content, I think that is not fair to either one. The understimulated one will be clueless and helpless, finding it hard to cope throughout the whole lesson. To teach easier content, the typical student is discounted for what they could learn more and find it boring. Even putting children with similar ability in a same class, the teacher will already have challenges to teach as individuals ability differs, but not as extreme when you put the '3yo' and '7yo' in the same class. Talk about 30 students in a class. It definitely would help if the class is segregated according to the students ability like what the schools are doing, subject based learning where some could take advanced subjects if they are better at certain ones, otherwise stay at the typical class or foundation class for the lesson that they has challenges in understanding.
You should not have aired Jovianne’s part, or should’ve atleast blurred her face and her name. The SDP believes that education must be the process where an individual learns to discover oneself and, in doing so, endeavour to improve the human condition. For the sake of our nation’s future, it is important that we teach our children that reading and learning can be enjoyable and intrinsically rewarding.
SDP also proposes to abolish the PSLE, and this should be complemented by broadening the curricula and reducing the workload. He added: “Such an approach will enrich our students’ educational experience and prepare them for a future that will require them to be well-rounded, intelligent individuals.”
