      I hate myself when I do this, then the other person would continue saying "you're lying right? you're smiling, yaa you got caught" for some unknown reason I kept smiling and laughing while my face is red, really make it seems like I'm lying when I'm not, and I can't stop myself ;;
      I also do this too, uncontrollable laugh, when I'm presenting in a group, I don't know why I can't stop laughing, there isn't even any reason to laugh, maybe I'm too nervous or embarrass or smtg (it frustrates me sm). aaaa (btw sorry for my english it's my 2nd language)

    I once babysat my nephew, he was 6 at the time, and we made his mother a craft to give on mother’s day. I told him we couldn’t tell his mom because it was a surprise, and that if she asked what we did during the day, not to say we made a craft. When his mom came home, she promptly asked what we did together and he said, “We didn’t make you a mother’s day craft” 😂😂😂

    When I was a kid I learned to lie often because I'm very scared of the consequences or trouble that I will face. I think that if the parents/guardians teach their child that "saying the truth is okay" than "lying is bad". Like most of kids have trust issue with their parents bcuz parents will say "I won't do anything bad to u,just tell the truth" then goes hitting,yelling,cursing and saying bad things to their kids. I know not all parents do this and sometimes is the kids fault.

      "I won't do anything bad to u,just tell the truth" then parent says "I lied" and goes hitting, yelling, cursing etc. Now it looks not like a parenting fail, but an instant object lesson that lying feels bad for whom you're lying to.

    My natural reaction to being under pressure is to smile, or laugh, or tell a joke, anything to relive that pressure. It has lead to many people believing I am a liar, when I was telling the whole truth. I’ve tried so hard to stop it, but it just builds up and makes it worse.

      Same here. When whenever the mood is down, and something serious happens I always laugh, or tell a sarcastic joke. I don’t know why, I just can’t help it. It always makes me second guess myself when it happens, though. I don’t know what the reaction will be anymore. Whenever I try to lie, I just burst out in laughter uncontrollably. Whenever I’m telling the truth, I…burst out in laughter- quite a dilemma if I do say so myself.

    My cousin is 2 and a half and she lies all the time. I think if something sounds too ridiculous to be true then it’s easier to tell, but sometimes she’s crafts lies that are impossible to distinguish from the truth. One of the main reasons is because she convincingly cries to her parents when telling a lie or uses a unhappy facial expression. She’s so easily able to pull herself into the fantasy that she tells others. For me, this is convincing evidence that children are not only very good liars but use lying in order to understand how the world works and how they can manipulate it.

    Great talk! I just had a 40 yo housemate who lied in order to rent from me. In interview, I asked “what do u do for breakfast?” He said he eats oatmeal every day & prepares it in Microwave. So IMMEDIATELY after moving in he’s making HUGE breakfasts, & filling the house w/ hot olive oil odors, all at 6 am. Then, when moving out I asked if he vacuumed his carpet, he said of course, many times, which I was shocked to hear, since I’d never seen a vacuum near his room. So that day, I vacuumed & got a canister full of dirt & I realized the carpet had NEVER been vacuumed over 2 years. LOL. So he lied coming in & lied going out. How appropriate. I’ve a new nice guy as a housemate & he lied as well about his work schedule & more. I’ve concluded that people learn to lie when young & it’s habitual. They believe, Why not lie? It’s easy & convenient & rarely will u get called out on it. Plus, I definitely can’t tell when people are lying & It seems 99.5% of people I meet are outright, unapologetic liars.

      That's his joke. If a lot of audience members hold up their hands, they're being honest about their prior falsehoods. So they're honest people (now). But if few raise their hands, it means they must have been honest children so they grew up to be honest adults. So his response is the same no matter how many people raise their hands. The next layer of the joke is that of all the people who didn't raise their hands, 90% are lying right now, and are about to be called out on it statistically. So when he says they're honest it's secretly sarcastic but only just for them.
