My cousin is 2 and a half and she lies all the time. I think if something sounds too ridiculous to be true then it’s easier to tell, but sometimes she’s crafts lies that are impossible to distinguish from the truth. One of the main reasons is because she convincingly cries to her parents when telling a lie or uses a unhappy facial expression. She’s so easily able to pull herself into the fantasy that she tells others. For me, this is convincing evidence that children are not only very good liars but use lying in order to understand how the world works and how they can manipulate it.
Why should he be a terrible person? Lying isn't always bad. The world isn't that simple. Think of the people who helped people hiding from the Nazis. Is it really evil to lie in such a situation? It is terrifying if you think those people had the technology to find out who is lying. Every single person who was secretly against the regime would have been in danger and probably killed. Stop judging people without thinking Jason Horton!

I was literally screaming all the time. No one suspected anything. She would have kept me there all day.
Yeah, I had my hand in my pocket- my teacher told me to give her my phone. My phone was in my other pocket. She still didn’t believe me and shouted at me for being on my phone. It was confiscated and lost in the teachers custody, they refused to pay for the lost property

I have one small thing to say, I think if adults trust children, they wouldn't lie as much. Because they would know that it's alright to tell the truth and that they're gonna believe you. Even if you say you trust your child, they know you don't, they also know just as much about you as you know about them.
Love this comment so much. I think parents should make it easier on themselves by just teaching their kids about the perks of being honest and let them decide for themselves what they're going to do. Personally I don't think being honest is what gets kids in trouble, how the parents REACT to their kid lying is how the kid would get in trouble.
@@youtubecommentator6023 agreed. 😌👍😎 So basically here is the lesson for the parents: don't live through you child, trust your child and let them grow and change. Treat them with respect and they will treat you with respect.
Last time I told my mom when I was little, that my brother whack me with a stick, her response? "I think it's you're fault that your lying", parents should sometimes trust kids cause we don't know what they'll do next? (Time to get the, you have a unhealthy mom) she was fine, she's kind, great mother, but sometimes doesn't listen to me. We had a fine
Technology like this can be so useful in child abuse cases. Often kids are not believed or taken seriously, adults don't trust the word of a child but they would probably trust a lie detector like this.
unfortunately, its still only as honest as the person in control of its use, and frankly, that nullifies its usefulness at best, and at most realistic, is more likely to be used as a weapon, not a shield.
As a child you don't get rewarded or receive a neutral response for telling the truth. You are told that if you tell, you won't be punished. And you lie anyway. Because when they said that before, you got punished.
Yup. My father the other day wanted to take my computer for 2 days. I didn’t tell him where my computer was so he said he’d take it away for a week if he found it. Or I could not give it to him and hide it when he was home, and use it every day when he was away. Eventually he gave up or forgot and I didn’t loose anything
elsypie well you still have to suffer the consequences no matter what If they find out your lying you will get a worse punishment than if you tell the truth If you don’t get caught you will start building up a habit of lying because you think you won’t get caught But eventually someone or something will figure it out and prove that you are lying and you will have to suffer the consequences there Even small lies prove your not trustworthy and coming up front is ALWAYS the right thing to do
@@m_artroom If everyone had the same mindset Earth would be a Utopia, but I don't think everyone has that mindset. I think what she means is that you have a way better chance of getting away with what you did, and even if they caught you the punishment would be basically the same.
The problem is that this technology could be very easily abused. There are also huge ethical issues with the entire concept of invading someone's innermost privacy.
Yea I know it's such a bummer when companies try to sell me the stuff I want most instead of randomly bombarding me with ads hoping something will stick.
I thought the girl was behaving very self-disciplined while the boy was at ease. Either reactions come out respectively when you have something to hide, or when you don't.
I read somewhere that people lie because we have been taught that if you did something wrong and tell the truth you will be punished therefore people begin to avoid telling the truth.

Quite surprised the audience didn't get that the second child was the one that was lying. The strong shaking of the head in addition to the simple 'no' was what gave it away. Why go to the effort of seeming innocent when an innocent person would be confused why they were even asked the question?

He will adapt, my friend. Probably in the next few years to come, he will come up with another way to lie. So that his dad can spend the next few decades to find out how to tell if he's lying or not
Denial , blame ,excuse. This has been known for many years in children and adults. We lie to protect ourself some think. Big brother may read our minds someday....if not already now. Scary manipulative future maybe. Or will we become more compassionate? Time may tell. Mind games continue. Sadly many do not know that they are being nudged . Fortunately Ted and Internet helps some see things as they are.
Back when I was in 9th grade I was late to school because the public bus I’d taken stayed at the same stop for 6 minutes. Since I was late, I had to be taken to the principal’s office. It went something like this. Her: Why are you late? Me: The bus stopped at the same stop for 6 minutes. Her: Is that the real reason? Why are you lying? Be honest. Me: *lies to her* Her: Good. See, that wasn’t hard. You should be honest about everything. Shouldn’t lie. Me internally: *facepalm*
Lol, in 1st grade we had to get a new fridge, had to wait for roosters, and then had to go to CVS to buy something. I went to the office since I was 1 hour late and then I told them what happened they said, “not likely.” And they called my parents and they confirmed it. I wanted to say told you but couldn’t obviously.
when i was younger, parents often said im lying...and i hated lying so i almost never lied, but since they often said: you are lying, this is not the truth..i just stopped caring and started lying often.
Teachers be like: " Tell me if you did it and you won't get in trouble " Students: " Ok fine I did it " Teacher: " Detention, rest of the week " " Go to the principals office " Student: x walks out door x " Wow teacher says I won't get in trouble if I said I lied, but then they go and lie them self, good job "

you dont need scientifically proven facts to understand common sense. If a kid has strict parents, they'll learn how to get out of trouble, unless they have some sort of domination fetish where they like getting beaten with a belt.
Great talk! I just had a 40 yo housemate who lied in order to rent from me. In interview, I asked “what do u do for breakfast?” He said he eats oatmeal every day & prepares it in Microwave. So IMMEDIATELY after moving in he’s making HUGE breakfasts, & filling the house w/ hot olive oil odors, all at 6 am. Then, when moving out I asked if he vacuumed his carpet, he said of course, many times, which I was shocked to hear, since I’d never seen a vacuum near his room. So that day, I vacuumed & got a canister full of dirt & I realized the carpet had NEVER been vacuumed over 2 years. LOL. So he lied coming in & lied going out. How appropriate. I’ve a new nice guy as a housemate & he lied as well about his work schedule & more. I’ve concluded that people learn to lie when young & it’s habitual. They believe, Why not lie? It’s easy & convenient & rarely will u get called out on it. Plus, I definitely can’t tell when people are lying & It seems 99.5% of people I meet are outright, unapologetic liars.
That's his joke. If a lot of audience members hold up their hands, they're being honest about their prior falsehoods. So they're honest people (now). But if few raise their hands, it means they must have been honest children so they grew up to be honest adults. So his response is the same no matter how many people raise their hands. The next layer of the joke is that of all the people who didn't raise their hands, 90% are lying right now, and are about to be called out on it statistically. So when he says they're honest it's secretly sarcastic but only just for them.
So, not only is dude giving a highly entertaining, insightful, and highly technical scientific speech in front of 100+ people, he's ALSO giving a highly entertaining, insightful, and highly technical scientific speech in front of 100+ people in his *SECOND LANGUAGE.* I am always impressed with people who obviously didn't grow up speaking English but who learned to speak in college or even childhood and now speak to such a high degree they are able to do technical speeches or instruct in the language, even to express humor. ((And it goes the other way, there are some Western commedians in China who sound damn close to native)) I speak Spanish and a bit of Russian and I would be MORTIFIED to even sing "happy birthday" in front of 10 people in either language.
Strict parents make sneaky children. Sneaky children make good liars. Good liars can spot good liars. And that's why me and my friends are never in trouble with out strict parents. Because we know how to play the lying game :)
After guessing the correct child that lied, I realized that it's cause I've dealt and took care of children ever since I was 8. I was literally a child but I had to take care of another child(my niece) Not long after that, I had to look after my little brother who now lies and gets away with it when confronted by my parents. I'm pretty much the person in control of disciplining my little brother cause he knows that I know when he lies. And he can't get away with it

😌👍😎
So basically here is the lesson for the parents: don't live through you child, trust your child and let them grow and change. Treat them with respect and they will treat you with respect.
I mean, doesn’t matter how much you trust your mum, when she asks if you’ve brushed your teeth you say yes. It’s just what kids do
Also believe them. When a child is accused of lying when telling the truth, they will start lying more.
Eventually he gave up or forgot and I didn’t loose anything
elsypie your g ay
elsypie well you still have to suffer the consequences no matter what
If they find out your lying you will get a worse punishment than if you tell the truth
If you don’t get caught you will start building up a habit of lying because you think you won’t get caught
But eventually someone or something will figure it out and prove that you are lying and you will have to suffer the consequences there
Even small lies prove your not trustworthy and coming up front is ALWAYS the right thing to do
@@m_artroom If everyone had the same mindset Earth would be a Utopia, but I don't think everyone has that mindset. I think what she means is that you have a way better chance of getting away with what you did, and even if they caught you the punishment would be basically the same.

Wow this is the most honest group of people I’ve met:
*They just said they lied*
That's his joke. If a lot of audience members hold up their hands, they're being honest about their prior falsehoods. So they're honest people (now). But if few raise their hands, it means they must have been honest children so they grew up to be honest adults. So his response is the same no matter how many people raise their hands. The next layer of the joke is that of all the people who didn't raise their hands, 90% are lying right now, and are about to be called out on it statistically. So when he says they're honest it's secretly sarcastic but only just for them.
