- Uhhhh yeah I forgot to cancel the Crayola CIY Art/Craft Box. So. I opened 2. One of them was WORSE than the first one I opened a few weeks ago!!
Crayola came out with a brand new arts and crafts box called a CIY Create it Yourself box...it was $40 and not even worth $15. I'm so disappointed and pretty angry that it would cost so much for so little in return.

Aw man I’m moving houses on the 8th ): I wish I could make it
HELLO FELLOW EUROPEANS THOUGH SADLY I CAN’t ATTEND :(
As a mom there is no way in heck I would pay 40 bucks for those boxes. You can buy ALL of that stuff at the dollar store or similar enough for kiddos....
I’m not a parent but I agree you can look up craft ideas online and spend not even 20 dollars on the necessary items for said craft.
If I had a child I would start out with cheap and slowly build up to expensive depending on how much of an interest they have. But yeah that stuff I’m sure you could get under 15 at a dollar tree. What a rip off
IKR
Don't buy the junky crayons though. As a kid I hated Rose Art and Crazy Art. They may seem the same but their not.

I hope not, I like these vids the best.

When doing the wolf, the pins should go in wherever there's a corner or connection point.

I agree with the conclusion that the boxes are over priced. They can easily lower the cost and put more in the box so that the people who order the box have everything needed to complete the craft. In the second craft they could have easily included a colour wheel, instructions on how to use the colour wheel and the primary colours along with white and black paint. This would teach the users of the box how to mix colours from a limited pallet.
I agree. They MISSED SO MANY teaching opportunities in those kits!! Not to mention how they could have AT LEAST included more of the cheap simple things required to complete each project that would’ve AT LEAST made the boxes SEEM worth more!!
Exactly!
It probably would have only cost them like $5 or less n profit to add more paint & canvas. Even with extra stuff they could easily clear $30 pure profit. Those supplies n the box probably only cost them like $6 or less. It makes me view Crayola very differently.
There is a lot of R&D in lesson plans, money spent in graphic design of instructions, accountants to pay for sourcing, advertisers to pay... More colors means more kids mixing ugly gray and brown. This is an easy box for those who can afford it and nothing more.
@@MilwaukeeWoman yup and guess what ? other subscription boxes do it without overpricing their boxes. If the children know how to handle pins, they should know how to mix colours. This is flat out stealing money, but go on. Continue to copy paste the exact same comments and then don't reply when people prove you wrong
putting pins in a subscription box made for Children is a fail on their part, I bet there were a lot of unhappy parents with that one!
Depends on the age of the child an if the parents actually supervise. Children are able to do simple hand sewing, this is easier.
I used pins in kindergarten. I don't think they are too dangerous for a 6-7 years old kid
@@Serena-or7sl Depends on the child, I know a few classmates of mine (mind you, they're teenagers like me and should be a little more mature since the general age range for my Form is 16-18) and whenever they get their hands on a pin from Clothing class be sure to stay far away from them. They will poke you with it and possibly leave you with dots of blood on your shoulder to stain the white blouse uniform we wear. Man, my school are huge savages.....
@@ChrisStuart911 I wouldn't give pins in the hands of adolescent male for all the gold on earth if I'm near them. Children usually aren't so mean and... immature. Everybody in the class did that project and I don't recall anybody getting hurt from it. (btw, I though about accidental damages and not intentional ones)
That’s what I was thinking. Her last video said 8 and up for the box. But I don’t think I’d let a kid do this until 10 or 12 depending how clumsy they are.
Like couldn’t they include red paint as well like let’s get all the primary colors.
it wouldn't have been that much more to include a red, black, and white. *sigh*
And then the kids mix ugly colors and never paint again. No. You teach color mixing with a couple colors at a time and build on it.
@@MilwaukeeWoman ok, but you can't mix much with only 2 colors. besides what was the age limit for this? 6 and up? I'm reasonably certain most 6 yr-olds know how to make green. including a few more colors would not have been that big of a deal.
@@MilwaukeeWoman i think you are thinking about that way to much, like imagine the scenario
mixes blue yellow and red
makes brown
cries
"im never painting again!"
i mean... seriously?
@@MilwaukeeWoman man you sure love defending this bs and dumbing down 6 years olds in every single bloody valid comment that seems to oppose yours. kids aren't as stupid as you think, my guy.

@@LindaGailLamb.0808 I mean they have 8 eyes and still can't see properly, I wouldn't be too envious about it
Imagine being so rich you don't notice when $80 leaves your bank account lol
lmao was thinking the same xD
Well if I know anything about the youtube world, she is not "rich". I think it's a little disrespectful (I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here) to assume and say she is rich and saying that her not realizing that $80 left her bank account is on her fault. She has ordered a bunch of art boxes time and time again and forgot a few of the ones she ordered (it's simply a matter of her being forgetful and making use out of the situation. Next time choose your words wisely and criticize a little more nicely). Have a good day, sorry if I was a little harsh.
All my subscriptions/bills go onto my credit card. That has no effect on how much money is in my bank account and it does it automatically without me needing to do anything. I don't even know if you're able to put subscriptions that automatically renew on a debit card.
Chrartsic Gameplay ....imagine being so irresponsible that you don’t notice when $80 leaves your bank account because you were not mature enough to track your own account properly.... better?
creativityatbest the harsh of RUclips community and how poorly it credits artists or whatever has nothing to do tbh.
If that money had really hurt her in the last video, because 40usd for a box is way TOO much she would have unsubscribed instantly even before editing the vieeo, and she got 2. So imagine.
Why not include a red paint as well with a colour mixing chart? Finger daubers would have been nice with the stencils too.
You don't include red so little kids don't accidentally mix gray or brown and become too discouraged to learn color mixing. You start them off with two colors.
@@MilwaukeeWoman You learn colour mixing in kindergarten, so anybody using this box should be able to work with the primary colours. Not to mention that if the kids are still very young, the parents will help them. So I see no problem with adding red/magenta.
You're acting like kids are stupid.
@@MilwaukeeWoman So kids can't mix red but they can handle a gazillion needles? OK then.
Adding red is so obvious whoever decided not to should absolutely be fired. Such a scam from a billion dollar company, so not surprised.
Honestly, the supplies on the first box weren't $15 either, so both boxes were severely overpriced. But that is the standard problem with subscription boxes. They get things even cheaper than the general public price it, and then jack the price higher than the highest price people will likely find.
selbarton stonks👩🏻🦲 📈
this reminds me of these educational hello kitty activity books that my parents subscribed me to as a kid- it would list like 20 different crafts you can do with one technique/material and they were adorable! obviously, they didn’t come with any materials but that was a much better deal than this. it was like, ten dollars a month for a hardcover book full of 20 crafts and the instructions were so much more clear and creative
Omg I remember those XD
Aaaah Memories
That's cool lol
The twine, yarn, pins, hoop, Corkboard, and templates from the second box also isnt more than $15
How much does the lesson plan development cost? How much does the graphic design of the lesson plan cost? How much does the marketing cost so that you even know about the box? How much does it cost to pay the accountants and material sourcing people to put together the box? How much does customer service cost? How much does it cost for the web page for the box?
If you can put together something yourself, you should. You pay for all these services when you can't or don't have the time, the same as every other service.
@@MilwaukeeWoman Subscription boxes claim to give you more than the value you pay for it. It would be easy to make the boxes yourself. You can download patterns online for free. Its expected to at least have a $50 value in the boxes. Which there isnt. This isnt supposed to include the goodies in, because they are supposed to be additional. The cost to make the box and market it should not count. Almost all subscription boxes usually give you more than your money's worth, or exactly your money's worth. I don't think you've seen many subscription boxes, huh?
@@MilwaukeeWoman Are you working at this subscription box company? You're really dedicated to responding to a lot of these valid complaints and with copy-paste at that. I think you have an invested interest that you aren't disclosing and that's also underhanded.

Edit:Damn all of you were very patient and naturally talented 7 year olds. Bc I definitley couldn't do anything at age 7 apart from pick my nose.
I was wondering that about all the crafts, unless you have a very gifted 7 year old. If an adult artist is struggling, how do they expect a child to get on with the projects?
@@katw6757 Exactly!
Well, I don't want to be mean, but she does seem a bit on the clumsy side. I don't know if I was just a patient child, but because I didn't rush I never really hurt myself (with scissors, pins, needles, sewing machines...). I think Chloe is a wonderful artist, which is why I watch her, but she doesn't seem to have much love for crafts 😅
Idk man, kids can be really pacient since they dont really have any real responsabilities and can waste time all they want. I know I invested a LOT more time in my art projects as a kid then nowdays.
Honestly you should never do string art with pins anyway as you need a certain amount of tension, all string art i have seen has been with thin nails, also cork is too soft, the nails or pins will move and it's not conducive to making the craft work
I think you rip of the paper after the string. I could be 100% wrong tho.
i would turn out better lol
Well she was doing it according to the instruction, wasn't it?
@@milkeyway7105 maybe she misread? I dunno, makes more sense to me too to rip after stringing..

Wait... this isn't an art box unboxing channel?... I LEGIT SUBSCRIBED BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ART BOX UNBOXING CHANNEL LOL 😂😂
I work at an arts and craft supply store and seeing the contents of that second box makes me wanna throw it at the wall and scream. The items in that box? All of those items combined - and of higher quality, i might add - you'd get for less than 20€ at our store. And that includes a RED color too, so you could at least mix all the colors on a colorwheel.
How much does the lesson plan development cost? How much does the graphic design of the lesson plan cost? How much does the marketing cost so that you even know about the box? If you can put together something yourself, you should. You pay for all these services when you can't or don't have the time, the same as every other service.
Not including red keeps kids from mixing ugly browns and grays. It's a quick craft kit, not full art instruction.
@@MilwaukeeWoman That's honestly such a dumb excuse. Crayola is a huge company, they don't even need a ton of marketing.
@@MilwaukeeWoman Concept development, graphic design, customer service, and marketing doesn't explain why Crayola's traditional craft kits, available at box-stores and online, are $15 dollars instead of $40 dollars.
Also, we can learn by experimentation, failure should always be an option, but if the kit actually explained any color theory to kids, which is cheap to do when they're including full-color instructions already, then they'll learn how to effectively mix colors. That's valuable for a budding artist, especially if they want NICE browns and grays that aren't just murky versions but intentional results. If they're painting a nice doggo, friendly kitty, cute elephant, or a fearsome shark, they might want brown or gray. You're just excusing bad practices...

Or maybe, just maybe, they just have difficulties. Just like you, you got difficulties with your behaviour! Did someone get roasted or nah? Hopefully you learned your lesson. This is a family friendly channel so behave good!
The difference between these and the jazza boxes is that other boxes like to see how much they can charge to get the most product for the least amount of things - and jazza is about trying to pack as much value into a collection as possible
There are hidden expenses like creating the activity, designing and printing the booklet, warehouse packers. But the price is high compared to other subscription boxes and does look incomplete.
You keep being you, you're gorgeous! XX
And graphic design of the booklet costs, marketing of the box, customer service, etc. Lawyers, accountants, safety testers (since this is for kids.) I doubt the profit is very high. People undervalue work they can't see. They think a booklet is only worth the cost of a scrap of paper.
@@MilwaukeeWoman I mean, I feel like that's not really relevant though. If I have the option to buy one cucumber that has a designed packaging and one that has clear plastic wrap, I'm still gonna judge if they price the packaged one at 2 dollars more, even if it was because they needed someone to make the designed package. It's still stupid no matter how you phrase it :P

That cobweb thing that you were really stressful with is called a "dream catcher"
rythym gaming no it is not a dream catcher a real one has feathers and beads and stuff
@@2verysnowyyy pretty sure it's the web bit in the middle of the hoop that makes a dreamcatcher a dreamcatcher. That's where the dream spider lives and where the bad dreams are caught. Feathers and beads are more for decoration. Although some dreamcatchers do have a single bead inside the web part to represent the spider
APeaches16 dream catcher are also kind of a closed practice. it’s specific to Native American cultures and the feathers and beads are sacred items. and it’s not necessarily bad dreams but harm. it’s a protective charm

Yes, totally agree. Some subscription boxes short change their subscribers and have forgotten the reason why people sign up for them. They want to try new art materials for a cheaper price than when we have to go buy them in full size at the store. Instead, they get smaller supplies and amount for more than regular full set prices.
Chloe, based on your analysis, it appears that marketing people put together these boxes with a profit target of 50 percent. They need to hire artists to advise them. Thanks for sharing!! ❤️ your videos. You cheer me up!! God bless! Be safe!
NerdECrafter rating: IN THE TRASH 🗑!!!!!

*you should compare the supplies (amount, price, quality), compare your crafts( who's turned out better), and compare the price(of the supplies)
I clicked so fast for the most iconic art queen
Okay, I can imagine kids saying "order me something on the internet" (actually, i know a kid who keeps saying this). I can imagine these kids loving to get a "surprise package". But in this case I wonder if the kid would not be disappointed and if it wouldn't be more interesting for the kid if the Mom/ Dad chose and bought some things and then send it themselves or give it to another relative such as a grandparent, aunt/ uncle who would send it, thus making sure the kid really only receives things it will actually use.
Also, I may be oldfashioned, but I believe as a kid I would wanted each item wrapped in gift-wrapping, not "naked" in the box....
Pretty sure they should have got you to pull away the paper from the string art AFTER winding the string onto the pins..
Love watching you open those boxs please dont stop 💯💖💖💖
I love watching your videos, they're fun! A few observations: 1) One of the reasons the stencils didn't work well is that you're supposed to stipple (forcefully "pounce") the paint with a stiff brush, not brush the paint across the stencil. 2) For children it's often a good idea to limit the palette of colors so they don't end up with "mud" ;) And I totally agree that the price is high. 3) On the other hand, if you are looking at it from a parent's point of view, they have a once a month box with a craft for each week of the month, so eh, not great but could be convenient. and 4) I would have tried to cut the watercolor palette into individual pieces and just put the whole piece into a cup of water ;)
