congratulations on your first spot, you really earned it!! I think this whole Timeattack-Season and your video about it teaches a valuable lesson for anyone that engages in mid- to long-term racing. Its not the one race or the one lap that counts, much more you have to stay consistent throughout your laps in a race, or your races in a season.
I used the time-trials as a sort of mental rehab over the last 4 weeks and really enjoyed chasing down yours and Guglielmos Laps all along :)
Though i really hope you guys will compete again next season, because now Im really in love with the idea of doing it again!

Dave, you are my inspiration for what an "older gentleman" is capable of with iRacing! I used to think being up there in age (north of 50) meant I was destined to just run around the middle to back of the pack because we slow down with age. Obviously, this is not the case! It just takes practice and laps. Thanks for showing us all what is possible, regardless of age! 👍👴
Hi Rich, I agree buddy I am going to celebrate my 62 birthday later this year & I am still pushing it just started staying in the over 2k iR too _ even got a seat in a team which competes in all special events - loving the competition - keep at it young one - LOL

I am 100% a mid pack man. But one time in the GT4s at donnington i had Flawless Victory. Qualified on Pole, Lead every lap, Won the race and Got the fastest lap. that was the peak of my sim racing career lol

Dave, hearty congrats on the 1st place and well done to those finishing 2nd and 3rd, you were all a class above.
At risk of doxing myself I was the one who came 4th (thanks for the name checks, I almost feel famous!)
One thing worth mentioning re Time Attack is that you can race against the ghost cars of anyone who has set a laptime.
Where there are various cars, as in the case of GT4s you get put in the same car as your opponent which isn't always ideal but if you exit back to the UI, choose the car you want and hit drive (not against a specific opponent) you can go up against the ghost car of the last opponent chosen.
It's a great way of learning to increase your pace.

I noticed you pop up in the TA's mid season. Impressive run and congrats on the win.. I'm the overall 5th place in your TA. I like to think of it as the mid field pack :) I used the McLaren all the way through and it is only good on some tracks. I also do Time trials and can say that you don't know frustration until you get an incident point on the last corner of the Nurburgring on what would have been your best lap. Arrgh!

I keep saying I am going to get back to doing officials and I have decided that this coming season the time is right.
I finally feel my driving is good enough to get back racing strangers on the internet.
I will still do the odd league race with the SGN crew but it will not be my main focus going forward.

Congrats Dave... These wins mean a lot to us personally... I won the 2nd division of the LFM BMW TV champs last year... Not a high profile championship but meant a lot and gave me impetus to improve.

I managed to scrape P1 in division 3 Clio Cup. It’s been a fun season, especially the 8pm UK Wednesday time slot.

I finished 21st overall in the GR86. I broke down my rig around week 10, as I moved to a new house. When the rig is back up, I feel like I should work with a more powerful car. I love the GR, but I also want to race with higher iR guys. They seem to gravitate to cars bigger than the Mazda and GR.

This is something I'm going to look into. While I've been an iRacing member for 5ish years, I probably only do a race every two or three months.
I'm retiring at the end of this month and am going to get more focused on this hobby. Time attacks might be a good way for me to compete without the angsty feeling I get about racing. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Thanks Dave for another great Advice and tips content. I am trying to get up to pace in the races and I am also running Sunday to Sunday. I feel I can improve in places. I haven’t really thought about doing the time trials. Is that a good place to start on working on your pace or should I just keep racing in the GT3/4 races?
I won a Legends Time Trial championship once. Got it by grinding SR. I must have been the only one who ran time trial in the Legends. But I'll take it.

Very nice! Congratulations. Me I'll never win a time attack, because I really don't enjoy hotlapping. I'll focus on my racing career instead :) My dream atm is to partake and complete a 24h race with some friends I guess I have yet to find. I really enjoy endurance and have done a couple 6-hour stints already, even one 8-hour stint :D That breaks a man though, but damn is it rewarding!

i know how it feels, i did first season of gt3 fixed time attack driving Lambo only and managed to win it
might also be my only season long win
altho i started it to try and get better at gt3's once i saw many people are doing it it became a bit of nostalgia to to those old grand prix games hotlap competitions (in previous millenium :) )
also great racing in Formula ford today was great fun :)

I've got only 1 win, and it's because the leader disconnected on the last lap. Not the way I wanted it, but it counts.

I did the same competition this season in the mx5 and finished 4th overall. Could have easily improved to 3rd place but was away on holiday for the final week... but it's a lot of fun doing this competition. You set a good time, come back a week later and someone else got a better time, so you get back to work and try to one up them 😅. It's also been a way to practice for me, cause I'm still relatively new to iracing (6 months in), not driving each and every week, so there are still some free tracks that I learned this season doing lots of laps in time attacks😊. A couple of those guys are a bit too quick for me at the moment though. But I'm getting there 😅

@@davecamm by the way... you've got a video or tips on how to learn a new track quickly? I mean, I eventually get pretty quick after a while, but it usually takes me around 200 laps of focused practice, then I get into the whole "respawn" action to master specific corners I'm struggling with. To me that seems a little long. I've got the impression guys learn tracks much much faster. Also, I absolutely respect guys like you jumping from one car to another... I don't know how you do it (at least not yet). The braking points are way different, accelerating out of corners is different, everything... I guess years and years of doing it makes it easier, but right now... I'm in awe with people like you and others who make it look so easy when it's anything but...💪👍

No, I don't even think anyone needs the Invicta. I think the SC2 Sport and Forte are plenty 👍

Dave, is it an asetek button box and rim you’re using? I’m looking to get the forte wheelbase and can’t decide on a wheel. Do you tend to always use round rim, even for gt4, gt3 etc? Cheers mate. Keep making great content
Yes I use the Asetek button box and rim and think it's superb. I always try and match what the irl car has 👍

I had bad experiences during the just concluded GT4 season, so I'm hesitant to try again.. depending on the tracks for the new season, I may give it another go.
I may switch from the Aston Martin to something else. Just didn't like the gearing and view out of the cockpit..

I have it set in my wheel software to 900. No wrist pain at all 👍

Just measured the angle on the wheelbase. It's 12.8 deg 👍
