I started watching this channel because Im a pilot. I keep watching it because it teaches me the value of a positive attitude and just being a really nice guy.
I love flight radar 24 i use it everyday I’ve had it for a few years now, when i see a plane go over Tells what kind and where there going, gives registration it’s a must have for people who love planes I live on the route between Nashville and Memphis so I see a ton of FedEx heavy’s and southwest flights
Hey, Big Ern, just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate and enjoy your channel. I'm a SWA captain's mom, and I've always been interested in what he does for a living. Your videos give me so much insight into the every day goings on, so they help me to better understand what his days must be like as well. Thanks for taking the time to take your viewers along on your trips. I'm sure they motivate many aspiring pilots, as well. May God bless and always keep you safe in the palm of His hand. 🙏💙♥️💛
5:40 I can say its much longer when your traveling at 7.5 knots in a 76' yacht across that stretch, although the destination was Seattle, non stop, about 2 weeks en-route or 330 hours one way. Keep up the good work Captain! ⚓✈
Hey Ernie, another great video , the flight planning and the walk around the aircraft in PHX was professional and superb. As usual you always operate professionally and the scenery in Honolulu was excellent and you get to see the sunset. Great details on the route back to PHX. Have a great week.
Thank you for the knowledge you share. It helps to better understand all that goes on to keep us safe. You have great presence. Keep up the amazing work and thank you
I heard a story from someone who went thru Falcon transoceanic recurrency training at Flight Safety (or somewhere) ... They said to have a Marine Traffic tracking app on your tablet downloaded. They gave a slow fuel leak scenario where you have time to plan... if you are going to ditch.. ditch in front of a freighter in a shipping lane. Makes sense.
That was one of your best videos to date Captain Big Ern! Loved it. I enjoy hearing about the struggle of being a junior captain at a very senior base...but at the same time, you have the big picture of a first year as a captain that was truly great AND you gave a shout out to the FA's you fly with every day Way to be humble, grounded and appreciative.
As always Captain Ern I love to watch your informative videos. I’m in the Motorcoach sports team driving for many years. We are all people movers Stay safe
You’re fantastic Ern. A few days ago, I failed my commercial check ride, in Phoenix of all places. One day, I’m going to be an airline pilot, for a major airline somewhere. You’re a real inspiration. Thanks man.
@@TB-um1xz Thank you I really appreciate that. It must be so fulfilling overcoming setbacks and achieving your dreams. Perhaps in the long run, you’re wiser for it too.
It’s good to see you doing what you love doing. And I hope one day I get a chance to fly on one of your flights. I’m retired Army and would love going over the ocean with you. BigErn, Southwest has become my go airline thanks to you, take care
Great video, Big Ern....it's really interesting to see that all of your impressive technological tools include FR24, which I use to track whether there are firefighting aircraft flying anywhere near my home here in Central Orygun....
Thanks Ern sharing your flight too HNL from PHX, HNL return PHX. I lost private lic yrs ago I too like Flightradar24 I like because live what’s going on.
Hi Ern, I'm new to the channel. What led me here was your recent command upgrade--I too am just going through that process, though I'm on the Airbus side of the house! Unfortunately I had to have a period of time off during line training (UOT I think you call it in the US) and have enjoyed watching your videos as I get ready to get back at it! Love your enthusiasm and great content!
Awesome video captain! Just started flight school at Sierra Charlie at chandler municipal airport KCHD! Hoping to work for Southwest in a few years! Maybe even your future First Officer!
Did that many times ( HNL-LAX) on a New United 747 when I had shore duty in the Navy ( '72-'73 )....... then seven years later the United Capt. that I flew with was a regular at my little airport ( Compton ) and sat with us on Saturday mornings in the hanger for our round table hanger flying meets....... was interesting to hear his stories about these trips.... and to find out he was the guy up front all those years ago...... Looks like you are doing a great job Big Ern, would love to do that trip again with you.😎
Hi Ernie great video as always. You are such a humble great guy. A true inspiration to all pilots. At 15m 51s did you say "as we are going across the Atlantic". Might just be my hearing. Keep those engines spinning.
Just found your channel. I never realized my dream of being an airline pilot, but great content to watch and learn. And some thingsI can still apply in today's amazing flight sims....though I mostly fly Airbus :)
Among the Polish governmental planes there are two 737-800s and a BBJ 737. They flew into NYC for the UN summit and they had to stop in Iceland on the way. Interesting stuff to follow
I fly out of Phoenix quite often always watch for you. My nephew flys to Hawaii quite often sometimes from Pheonix and sometimes from Oakland. Glad to see you use the Max 8 for that. Thanks for sharing
G, day Captain Ern from Sydney Australia. Great video production and love the prawns and rice hotel meal. Had me some "mighty fine" pasta and prawns in a tomato base dish, just the other day!!! 🌏🇭🇲
Capt. Ern, at 5:25 you mention turning back to SFO if any trouble, seems like LAX would be closer, just wondering. Keep up the good work! From a fellow Zoni.
You would think, as would I. But we have to think about the curvature of the earth and also the state of california as the lower half cuts sharp right (towards the east coast. The direct mileage between HNL and LAX is 2552.67 miles; whereas, the direct mileage between HNL and SFO is only 2397.54 miles. But, once they pass the halfway point for SFO, it’s on to Honolulu for any problems.
Hey Big Ern, Love your videos. I can tell you had a lot on your mind because at 15:52 or so, you said you were flying across the Atlantic on your way home! 😁 I hope one day you are my pilot!
Howdy from Dallas! I just found your channel and really enjoy it as an airplane nerd! I wish I was more proficient in IFR planning but I know just enough to have a basic understanding of your descriptions. Regardless, it's still fascinating to me. Hoping to see you one day on a flight to or from KDAL!
..as an early sub..it's always a good day..when Capt.Big Ern..posts yet another great..and very enjoyable..flight video..and please.. please ..keep 'em coming..Ern..
Hey BigErn love all your videos any chance you can make a Pilot proficiently training video in a sim where in flight emergencies could occur and what they throw at you mostly or in general thanks if u can 🎉
While I know you cannot film any portion of the flight, you did not talk about the takeoff roll/ runway used considering the hot & heavy departure at PHX. Thanks for the video!
Look how far both aviation over the pond and you have come! Another great video - really enjoyed getting into the weeds on oceanic crossings. It would be great to hear about your experiences with San Francisco Radio (AIRINC) sometime too. Mahalo!!
Just completed a trip from Oakland to Kona & back & was hoping you were our captain on SW. No such luck but both crews took excellent care & provided great service.
Hey Bigern, awesome video as always! Did a Calgary to Pheonix flight last week on the 737 and it was very interesting going from +10 C to +45 C within 3 hours! We thought summer was over up here in Canada but clearly it isn't in Pheonix. Love your work sir!
Great video Big Ern. You mentioned this particular ocean crossing is the longest anywhere without an alternative landing site. Is the pacific crossing to HNL from the LAX area in fact further than for example than BOS, YYZ etc. to HKG up and over the Artic Ocean? The journey up to 89 degrees north and back down again on the other side on the polar route is lengthy.
😂 Hahaha. Thank you for sharing your trip. You made laugh when you said junior Captains!! And you are right for being able to bid and hold or pick up a great trip. But And having other senior Captains seeing those nice Hawaii trips and they may want them, well you may not be able to pick up that trip until some other time.
I use to love flying on my former 777s from Chicago to Hawaii. You are right about head winds going west. But it is so nice to back from a good layover with a nice tail wind pushing you along!!!☺ I see now my former airline is flying the 787s on the few non-stop flights to Hawaii. A few former coworkers have told me how the trios have been recently. I hear it is still nice.
I started watching this channel because Im a pilot. I keep watching it because it teaches me the value of a positive attitude and just being a really nice guy.

Very nice seeing you again Have never liked flying over water, did many, many yrs ago from Guam to Travis AFB with a refueling at Honolulu- Hickam.👋✈️
Love a peloton workout. The instructor Kendall is always awesome. Love watching the vlogs in sunny Scotland
Am I the only one who gets excited when a post pops ups
I, too, look forward to Big Ern as well as Mentour pilot

Always a pleasure to watch you do your thing BigErn!!
I just stumbled on this youtube. Fascinating to watch route planning. My uncle was a 747 pilot way back in the 80's and they had none of this tech.
Air Canada also uses the 737 max 8 from Vancouver (YVR) to Honolulu (HNL). That's the flight I took in April.
This might be my favorite video so far. Keep it up captain!
Love you man. Thanks for the videos
Glad to see you doing well Captain
Thanks for being so original. Love the channel and info

Great video!! I recent started my PPL training, 4 hours down. You played a huge part in my decision!! Keep up the great work!

Here from Paul’s My Layover Life! Looking forward to riding along on your adventures! Peace be with you
First ever flight from. LAX

Great content on the Hawaii trip! Currently I’m in training for a FO position for a regional company and I can’t wait to do awesome trips like this!
I would feel so say with you as Captain. You are a real aviator....and I really love your channel..
Thanks for a very cool adventure, Big Ern!

Always been interested in the oceanic stuff from the pilots POV. Love the content, sure I'll hear you on the airways here at ZFW!

I didn't know the max 8 was ETOPS certified. Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing with us.
3:25 It's actually closer to 23 tons.... 👍😁🤠 Just a tad over a ton! ✈
BigErn, I really enjoy your videos. I learn so much even though I am only a Flightsim pilot (MSFS).
thank you so much for the trip !

Bidding for a trip has to be similar to us passengers checking in 24 hours before to get that elusive “A” boarding group
when I flew SWA, if wait to last then sit in 1B
Shout at from Thornton Colo Ern. Thanks for showing us on the map. lol. Deicing soon at DIA.............could snow anytime here.
Hi Ernie great video as always. You are such a humble great guy. A true inspiration to all pilots. At 15m 51s did you say "as we are going across the Atlantic". Might just be my hearing. Keep those engines spinning.
