You were on N7869A, the #3 MLG tire was changed on April 14th and was installed on March 12th. The #4 MLG tire was installed on March 12th and hasn’t been changed yet. 30 to 40 days is about what they last. Both tires looked pretty fresh in the video so I’m guessing this was recorded a few weeks ago. A brake will last about 4 or 5 months in case you were wondering.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
It seems like a Golden Age to be a young pilot.
Definitely, especially with captain upgrades happening in a matter of months instead of years.
My 17 year old is a pilot and is going to fly for a living. A few more years!!!
Some contracts top out at 500 an our for Captains.
Ha! He was the FO on my Newhire jumpseats a few weeks ago. Small world.
You can tell big ern is a legitimately good person. always taking a peek and looking for him in the cockpit when i fly swa.
My favorite thing about Southwest is the boarding. Not scared to use multiple doors and they don’t load front to back like other ridiculous airlines!
I work on heavy maintenance and modification of 737NG here in middle east. Below the throttle levers are micro switches which convert angle variations to signals. Don’t let liquid drips on that area of pedestal.
As a passenger I agree that Burbank and Long Beach are much easier.
Love how you easily explain stuff for us who may not be pilots. Thanks so much for sharing with us, I always look forward to your videos each week!
Nice of you to grab the walkaround for your FO. A lot of captains still don’t do them at SWA.
I recall my early training days in the 152/172 before PPL. Having a confident and calm instructor “captain” was paramount to building my own confidence. Big Ern exudes these qualities - he’d be an amazing pilot to fly with. Great job crew!
I know what you mean with airports that feel old school - I feel like that about MDW and RNO. Worked there back in the early 1990s with the original Midway Airlines and with Reno Air in the mid 90s. I remember Southwest was blossoming into quite a large airline back in the 90s. Most landing gear tires on commercial airplanes last for about 200 to 400 landings on average.
I have been watching your videos for awhile Big Ern! Today, I just passed the PAR. Let the journey begin!!! See you in the sky
Big Ern! Met you at KPRC about a week or 2 ago. What a beautiful Cirrus! Hope to see you again at KPRC!
Awesome video Ern. So nice to see a young smart hard working person like Eldon (hope for correct spelling) starting his career! Cheers from CYYB.
Great video guys loved it
Thanks for being a good mentor !
Love the videos. Thanks for sharing. I learn something every video. Keep up the good work.
Another FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!
Love flying out of LGB. Thanks for the vlog Big Ern!
Loving your vids Ern. Tell the family RUclips says hey. Hope you got some more acai bowls in brother :)
Hello BigErn. You and Sara are my favorite Southwest pilots, and you both have awesome RUclips channels. Take care and have a Blessed day.
Loving your vids! Your such an inspiration for a young pilot!
@Flyingwithbigern Sir... this is a very inspirational video!!!! I'm new to aviation in terms of flying, and I now have been encouraged to continue!!!! Thank you sir!!! All the best!
Thank you for sharing your trip.😊😊
Another excellent, superb video production from the SWA "BigErn". I absolutely enjoyed the professional camaraderie between you and your almost one year "Probie". That is the sort of thing that makes me a sort of a "SouthWest Fanboy." If it ain't SW, I ain't flying ! Back and forth between BDL and TPA every year and I especially remember when those bars became FOUR bars. Three green and CAVU always ! 👍👍👍
When I was driving my special needs school bus i would tell my bus monitoe I was going to build my nest meaning adjust my seat to pre trippingĺ.Never heard another say that til you👋😉😉✈️✈️
Love your blogs.
Great video!!
Hi Guys, fellow 737 driver here. Would you mind sharing more detail on your iPad mounts. They look great.
Hello, Captain Cool. Love your videos. Keep um comin'.
Time for a captain intro 😂great video as always.
Enjoyed that BigErn. LA center is out there in palmdale
LGB! Love that airport.
Nice video again!
So sorry for what happened to your cirrus, terrible. I believe everyone survived thank god. But still terrible. RIP green hornet.
Pretty cool probie.
As a former plane captain in the Navy,I want to thank you for your service to this great country
It's a Love tap.... I do that all the time to my V.W. 😁
San Jose used to have the little hometown airport feel. Maybe still does...haven't been there in about 20 years LOL.
Hello and "Good day!" from KBJC/KDEN.
Fly and stay healthy! Have an amazing week. Cheers.
Always enjoy your videos. Learn something new every time.
A quick question, if I may. Is it a rumor that the pilot is supposed to eat a different meal than the first officer?
I heard the disappointment in your voice on the airplane change that you didn't pick up a MAX 8😂 Great video as usual!!
I still can't believe that jetBlue gave up those treasured slots at LGB due to a disagreement over customs. B6 made a huge mistake & messed up their west coast network as a result. WN was right there to grab those slots.
It was more than that. They were sick of being fined too for curfew violations
I fly into Burbank quite frequently... maybe I'll see you there sometime? I hope so! ❤
I recently got accepted into an aviation high school in Albuquerque and I can get my PPL for nearly free, by the end of my junior year. I'm so excited, I just can't wait to start. After that I'll try to get into D225 and join you guys in the sky!
I am the random king. Never fails. If I make it through KCM , someone made a mistake
I've never flown Southwest, but if I do I hope you are the captain fair winds and godspeed
Nice
Good Afternoon from KATL!!
Hi Big Ern, I watch your channel all the time. I'm an Ops Agent at LGB. Bummer that I missed you. Maybe next time...
On your question about tires airplanes don’t go by mileage. They go by Landing’s about 300+ landings and they are good for new ones.
You couldn’t be more right about trying to get a late morning start the 1st day, on to an early finish the final day. I could get a few hours of farm work done on both days. If you can cram it all in to a 3 day, even better.
It would be amazing if my oldest could get her foot in the door at 26. She is already networking with the Wisconsin National guard, and she is only 16. She wants fast jets, and it’s not much further to travel North to Madison WI. The illinois guard is all heavies. Of course, the way bases get shuffled, closed etc… it’s hard to plan that far ahead.
By the time she is 26, she will have had 2 years to get established at a guard unit and be ready for a major airline. I am so grateful things are now better for the young men and women of aviation.
very good video, but when I watch, I kind of get sad and depressed. Being an Airline pilot was my childhood dream. In my late teens that dream got crushed. Oh well I worked on planes as a mechanic but was not a fulfiling career and was not kind to me. but I do enjoy your videos.
How was that dream crushed in your late teens?
Maintenance is responsible for washing the windows just like In the guard
I always sit in the back going to Burbank. I have managed to get to my car in long term parking in 5 minutes after the plane opened the doors.
😂 Good save there Ern almost didn't mention the wife! Otherwise your hotel would be the dog house. I end up there so many times it should have my name on it.
Great report as always sir, Question in the UK we have to wear Hi-Visibility vests when on the apron at all times, inc walk-arounds where if we don't' we are reported. It seems in the US this isn't a thing with crew?.
It depends on the airline, United requires it SWA does not
@@PbairsoftmanIt also depends on the airport. ATL, for example, requires hi vis vests.
Thankfully that isn’t really a thing in the US. You’d think the uniform would be enough.
@@Micg51 I definitely agree!
The other thing most people don’t know about aircraft tyres is they are remoulds most of the time!
No printer strikes again! We have ATIS on our FD Pro, wonder if it is a contract thing?
I'm syre you will train him well.He has tbe VERY BEST.👋😉✈️✈️✈️
Curious how you ran that red cable to your EFB.
what's the proper protocol on when to retract the landing gear after takeoff ?..
Curious, What’s the average wait for upgrade at SW?
👍🏼✈
Such a young copilot today...
Regarding Tesla and other electrics, everyone knows about EV tirewear since they weigh 5,000+ pounds (I bet the tires cost $300-400 each).
Well, not exactly. The empty curb weight of the 2024 Model 3 is just 3862 pounds. By comparison, the curb weight of the 2024 BMW 3-series is 3988 pounds. With a 10.6 gallon fuel tank full of gasoline, you're looking at a weight of 4052 pounds. So the BMW is heavier. The Model Y isn't much different at 4363 pounds empty when compared to a 2024 BMW X3 M40i which is 4392 empty. So, neither of these Tesla vehicles is anywhere near 5000 lbs and actually weighs less than comparable ICE vehicles. Yes, tires wear more quickly on the Teslas than the BMWs, but the facts don't support the idea that's simply a matter of weight.
OK, I've been going by reviews of EV's, many have said these vehicles are heavy.
The S model is very close to 5k, but the others are not. The tire wear is most likely because of the ridiculous torque these cars produce. @@denault3985
What's the name of the song in the intro?
Have you been to Columbus Ohio airport cmh
If I was an up and coming young buck FO, I would bet all my coin on you Ern.
wazz up #5
Just finished training on the 737 came from the 767 and 787. It's so underwhelming 1960s tech
It is a total dinosaur. Mostly that’s the airlines and particularly Southwest’s fault. They are so keen to save a bit on training there’ve successfully pushed Boeing into building an aircraft that’s now giving them huge certification issues and frankly isn’t as safe as an aircraft with modern alerting technology.
Build a nest? Birds are we 👀
Long haul. Spoken like a true SWA pilot 😂
Knock knock. Who’s there?
Do you have any desire to fly another type of plane ?.
No not a lot of cycles just Navy landings
👋🏻KSRQ/KBNA☀️🌴🇺🇸✈️
Tires once a year on a Tesla?? Wow... That just doesn't seem right to me...
I’m so so so sorry to hear about the green hornet.
Very nice jacket Captain.
Hey Big Ern, are a lot of airline pilots ex military?
