This guy is honestly one of the best Star Wars Squadrons players out there. He's coached myself & Eckhartsladder in the past. I really recommend checking him out!

Eyyyy
We just had a chance to play with him tonight! Was a team that was, technically, balanced. In the sense that there were 3 valiant/legend players on each team, one placement player on each team... And then an ACE!
Was fun, but man were we outclassed
Thanks for having me on guys! Was an absolute blast!
Hehey! I couldn’t notice but to hear De Lorra - Dissonance in the start. But I have a question, I want to make YT content in the future and I’d like to play simillar music from the channel Electronic Gems in the background. How do you guys get permission to use the artists’ tracks? Do you ask permission from the artist themselves or is it more complicated and do you have to ask the company who owns their music?
Some of De Lorra’s music is open for use. But must be credited.
- Charlie
Watched your twitch feed just now. You said “JESUS CHRIST”. You blasphemed our Lord and offended me and my brethren. If you do this to a catholics face, expect to defend yourself. A protestant will tolerate it becauae their father is the devil. Why do you think, oh puny little white boy who speaks like a homosexual that it is ok to blaspheme our Lord? Would you use the heretic muhammeds name in vain? When you offend us are you saying that you dont respect us and that you and others like you are free to speak blasphemies without consequence? As i said. Say it to our face.
Well why the hell didn’t you ask him about his ship cosmetics? Winning means nothing if you don’t look cool.
Red squadron A-Wing, interstellar tie int. Look good play good!
So true, especially when the cosmetics are hard earned in-game and not bought with real life money.

I got back filled into a lobby with scalpwakka on my team. He carried us to victory in under 10 minutes and was on top of the star destroyer before I could even get out of the hangar.
I have the need, the need for speed!
I got matched against him once. It's not often you get that thoroughly demolished in a video game

i was matched against him in dogfight mode- i proceeded to get shredded and died about 8 times in 5 minutes, all to him
Squadrons is installing as I watch this, honestly TYSM for these tips
I hope you enjoy the game!
They got on builds but when it comes to tactics, I'd recommend a lot of hit and run for newer players. Dying hurts your team A LOT. I had a 30 kill match where we still lost because I had a guy on our team who was 0-17. Don't fly in straight lines, kill bombers first when on defense. Above all things: Learn to drift.
Yup, installing as I watch too. Hope the population is good along all skill levels
Welcome to Vanguard/Titan Squadron. Hope to fly with you

Now this is podracing!
I do like that so many different loadouts are at least *viable*, even if they're not optimal. I definitely learned a lot and will be trying out the loadouts he recommends, but it's nice to see I wasn't completely incompetent with my choices.
We also used some new music in this video. Massive thanks to De Lorra for the utterly amazing vaporwave music. You wanna hear the music on it's own? Go listen over here:

This is great. Nobody is doing these kinds of in depth interviews. You should make a series interviewing people, esp now all the ships and major patches are out. Maybe do a series per map as well?
So much strategy still to discuss! The depth in this game is crazy!
All?
I don't think we received everything from this game still.
Excellent video! This really helps. Love to hear about strategies and approaches when on offense/defense.
Routes and positioning would really help my game.
Fleet battles is super complex! Tons of stuff still left to discover and learn!
Love the format - best vid yet. More collabs!
Really well made video i like the organized concept of the advices. Would be nice to see more of that. At the end ScalpWakka said the best way to improve is movement, maybe in future a video covering only that aspect?
Great idea. I took on board his advice for constant drifting. And there was a dramatic, instant improvement. Might cover that in a video!

So much great information for someone that's just getting started and his loving learning everything about this game thanks so much for this guy's really appreciated
guys i really want to thank you for the tips you provide all this time, after long time and effort and trying what i was watching here i managed to go in the mid tiers ...finally, now another mountain to climb
Great video! Definitely make more with him, so great! Just got my WiFi installed and played squadrons before anything, averaging a 15-3 kd with defender rn. Such a great game
Glad you enjoy the game! Keep slaying my man!
Yes, a Defender pilot! Welcome to the "family".
I started using the Goliath missile after watching this video. It's also pretty effective on defense. I use a rotary cannon to bring down shields on corvette/raider and then firing the Goliath. Most of the time that destroys about 5-6 turrets in one strike. It kind of became my new go-to thing to do.
Great interview Charlie! Hope to see more content like this. I love what you guys are doing for the Squadron's community!
Great video, would definitely like to hear more from your guest. Maybe have a whole team on to discuss their strats.
I could talk hours and hours about strategy!
Nice video Charlie! Really made me rethink my loadouts. Especially interceptor. It’s so hard for me to aim rockets on a Tie Defender even with your loadout. I still see the value in it and am looking forward to mastering it’s mechanics!
I played his 5 stack tonight. My randoms were crying before the match. I'm thinking we are only going to lose like 3 points, let's have at it. It was a lot of fun even though I didn't have a lot of help. It was insane trying to keep them off my squads back. I figured he would get target because of his stream so I tried to get the jump on the other guys.
Great video, Charlie! Thanks for bringing ScalpWakka on. He's great.
I downloaded the game yesterday have been playing it nonstop since . Thanks for the tips 💪🏿
Wow I’m so trash compared to what he’s talking about. Also amazing content, hope you get 1 mil subs.

Hey i was in Scalp’s sights there at 1:08 ;)
Was it an honor to be pursued by him, or was it a scary experience?
@@michaelandreipalon359 Either you don't have time to realize or you will feel high pressure. He will kill you faster than most and you will take longer than most to kill him, if you have the skill.
@@cloudwalker9572 Still, what's the answer from me?
@@michaelandreipalon359 exciting ;) i got him a couple times in that match. I have a video on my channel if you want to see my perspective. We lost, but it was closer than i'm sure they would have liked.
I’ve noticed that not bothering to over charge my rotary and running double bombs in a b-wing is super useful if you just run around under full boost (crazy long duration) and have u-wing supporting you.
Surprisingly the defender I’m not figuring out quit.
Eckstwo’s defender vid was super useful for me, personally I think it’s all about managing and keeping up your shields with the advanced power systems component
I struggle with loadouts so this was nice!
First game back from this got a 300% kill ratio and got all 4 subsystems it works
it is a bit weird that bombers are used defensively instead to go bomb the crap the enemy capital in high tiers
Theyre just really really slow!
@@ScalpWakka yeagh this is true
Brilliant video. Earned a sub
I can toggle on or off the nameplates but as soon as the match starts i can't see the names of my allies. Hud is already at default everything turned on. I'm on ps4. Anyone know how to fix this? Much appreciated
So I've only just finished the story and started playing online. For some reason the other team seems to ignore me when I bust out the TIE Defender and before I can blink I've shot half of them down. My instinct says beginner's luck but it keeps happening haha
My issue is the game launches, but since I am using a joystick, I have disabled the mouse/keyb and now I can't click the 'Close' on the strange blank grey-coloured launch screen that pops up just after I launch the game...any ideas guys?
Currently pushing up the ranks of Hero at Hero III with a B-wing with Rotary cannon, meme beam, resonant shield, and either Ion Torpedoes or Proton Rockets (after cruiser shields are down). My go to for the Empire is Tie Bomber with Rotary Cannon, Reinforced hull, meme beam, assault shield, and Jet Engines for the quick boost charge to shunt over to the lasers.
Always make a run straight for the Corvette as soon as possible to take it off the field when on defense, I then have to try to take out enemy players with the rotary cannons, which is challenging, though when you do catch them, they are gone pretty quick.
Be careful with the rotary for anti-fighter! It will fall off pretty hard once you get into higher valiant as literally everyone is drifting around in circles! Keep up that ranked grind my man!
@@ScalpWakka thanks! I’ve mostly just been trusting my team to take care of enemies for the most part and it has worked out most of the time, I may set up two of each of my load outs so I have one with rotary and one with standard.
I've been in a lot of matches where the first component they're going after is the Power System. That said, no idea if I'm playing against people purposely playing together or not. I don't have a "squad" myself, so I am often just trying to fill in wherever. I find a lot of players are more focused on zooming interceptors around as if it's a dogfight instead of trying to be part of a well-balanced effort. For what it's worth, I've spent the last couple weekends (typically when I get to play) buzzing up the Hero ranks. Picked up 3 in a couple weekends.
The tip about ion torpedoes taking out Raider/Corvette/Cruiser/Frigate shields in one shot is definitely helpful.
But I do wish there were more people willing to communicate and truly work as a team!
A question - what percentage of time do you run at full engines vs full lasers?
Almost 99% full engines or shields. I run rapid fire lasers which basically charge themselves. I only really overcharge them right before shooting tanky things!
I'm a support convert, I'm all about the tac shields and turret mines. Those rocket turrets are nuts.
Beacons and Squadron Mask are nutty, especially with little cover like Yavin
@@SydneySininen that sounds like fun for a coordinated squad, unfortunately I don't have one, always solo queue. Setting up laser turret walls on defense and rocket snipers on attack while shielding anyone who crosses my sightline gets me by pretty ok with randos thus far. When I find a squad I'll have to give your loadout a try . . . Ugh . . . Yavin . . .
That solo turret support... so annoying to deal with XD. If you ever get a group or even coordinate with a team, mask and mark is extremely powerful!
I wish there was a ranked dogfight mode, I love dog fight but I have trouble getting into fleet battle
I got put up against him last night lol we lost... lol
Sorry buddy!
My tier is haven’t even completed the campaign yet cause I’m crap please send help
Don't feel bad. I haven't finished it yet, either.
Do you use the training grounds for movement training or do you just play?
bro does this work with a drone radio like an frsky q7s ??? could you by anny chance test it and revieuw it compared to a real drone simulator ?
Cap ship attack runs - do you always prefer to coordinate w/ team and drop shields with ion weapons first? Or is flying beneath the shields still reliable enough to dmg subsystems and still make it out alive?
In fact if you do that follow-up Q&A video, I'd love a brief but more specific discussion of attack runs in general.
To be brief a full team assault is ALWAYS better. In high level play we rarely ion shields on flagship! It takes too long to hit and can be inconsistent. Better to just go under shields and pop the generators! There are a few cool attack paths i would love to show!
@@ScalpWakka Please do. I'm lower tier and trying to focus on specific skills. Still trying to crack reliable attack runs without feeding morale.
Question: when is it more appropriate to go after the raider/corvette as opposed to the enemy fighters? Seems like morale shifts more rapidly when you kill fighters.
When no more players are attacking is the time to take a few shots but when you spot an incoming enemy switch focus to them and once all of them are taken care of finish off the corvette
This is a little gray and not so black and white, as with just about everything in this game. At higher levels players can be near impossible to kill so you simply try to prevent their missiles from hitting! The time to go for raider is whenever you have an opening, a support mark with full team focus wrecks the thing. But it has to be killed quick if it is going to be killed!
see, the squad that i fly with have a plan we use almost everytime. i'm the bomber in my squad, so usually i start AI farming immediately, while one of our fighter drops the shields of the corvette with ion torps. once shields are dropped, i swing my focus onto the corvette and take it down while the rest of team is getting player kills, defending me and obj. Whole process takes less than a minute, and im back to farming before the enemy knows it. We get the flip and move on
Corvette should be first to go honestly, as its not only about morale, but about stopping all the dmdg the corvette will be doing to your frigates/capship. One Ion Torp and team focus fire can bring it down in under 10 secs.
You sort of have to keep in mind that the tiers don’t necessarily correspond super well to actual skill level. At least until fairly recently there were top level competitive players still in Valiant. The ranking system is heavily dependent on the number of public matches played and how it rewards you. Playing with a strong team can really put a nerf on the number of points earned per win.
Great vids. Thanks. But PLEASE do one of two things for future vids. One, invest in a pop filter for your mic. They are rather inexpensive and can keep you from popping so much in your recording. "Popping" is that puff pop sound when you make "p" sounds (and others similar) when speaking into the mic. It is extremely distracting. If you do not want to add a pop filter to your mic, you can easily reduce this greatly by moving the mic out from right in front of your mouth. If you move the mic to the side of the "breath channel" you can also greatly reduce this effect. When you speak the "p" sounds a puff of air comes out of your mouth and can hit the diaphram of the mic causing it to vibrate. This puff is picked up as a sound by the microphoine. So, either use a pop filter or move the mic. I believe this can greatly increase the "listenability" (is that a word?) of your recordings. Keep up the great work!
I do have a pop filter. But I moved it out of the shot for this one video. Was a test for face cam video.

No mention of using a jammer in an interceptor to slip past a solid flagship defense line? Against a team that knows what they're doing I usually have a really hard time getting past them in anything but a stealthy reflec + jammer interceptor/a-wing. Reflec hull to slip around behind/to the side of the enemy flagship, then boost in and activate the jammer before the defenders turn around when I'm within 1500m of them. I then can usually dump almost all my barrage rockets on whatever component I'm targeting. Even if they know I'm there as long as the jammer is on the only thing that can hurt me is a goliath dumbfired against the flagship's hull. In the TIE Interceptor it's usually a suicide run but in the A-wing I can usually make it out unless the enemy team is really on the ball, but even then it never takes more than two attempts to blow up whatever component I'm looking at.
In a full 5-stack it isn’t worth going for subsystems in interceptors! I leave that to my fighters! The way i play interceptor is essentially like chasing a rabbit, except i am a rabbit. I fly in, clearly visible so the whole enemy team can see me. Dive to their backline for their bonber getting their interceptors on me, then just evade for as long as possible. By the time I die my team has typically gotten one or both shield gens. I will either die kiting their whole team around after killing their ai farmer, or i will get out low health. Deal damage while dancing around their players. Leave obj stuff to obj classes. Unless you’re solo queue, thats an entirelt different beast!
@@ScalpWakka I see! I should’ve mentioned that yeah, I almost never have a full team. I don’t usually play solo either, though, I have one solid wingman that regularly joins me (just one good teammate to communicate with makes a world of difference though).
I’ll give the rabbit strategy a shot and keep my eyes open for enemy ai farmers. I was also on the fence about targeting either the power system or shield gens first, but now I know to focus on the shields. Thanks!
@@Vercuric yea man solo is a different beast! As long as it is working for you keep doing it!
I may just be getting lucky a bunch (Happens with odd frequency), but I do find that when the targeting systems are down on the cap ship, I survive a decent bit longer when making bombing runs or even just strafing/flying near. End up taking less fire as you get close, and I can slow down and sometimes even stop (though that is still not always a good idea if enemy fighters are on to you) without needing to worry too much about the capital ships guns. I still get hit, but far less. It looks like they fire less frequently and less accurately. Biggest threat is generally enemy players who tail me because my options to try and dodge have become limited and very predictable. I can either deliberately crash my ship (bad), or fly away from it where they already know I am going to fly to (not as bad, but still bad times).
Taking out targeting systems on the star destroyer is a good target as it means less fire not only against fighters, but also against the corvettes. The flat top and shield gap on the dorsal armor also makes for an easy run where I can even get away with firing a torpedo off inside their shields (can do the same with ion torp on the underside for a quick power systems kill, but tractor beam makes that slightly suicidal) For the MC-75 its a little trickier because of the angle you have to fly to get the most time on target with shields up, but also not the worst target.
I think people underestimate just how much damage you and/or the corvettes can end up taking from the capital ships guns. If taking out the targeting systems means I get another 3-5 seconds at least to line up and execute a full bombing run, or the corvette stays alive a little longer giving us more time on the attack, or even just to make retreating a little safer to resupply without costing us moral, I'll take it.
Side note on the torpedo run, while the minimum fire distance is 500m, you can kind of get way with firing it at about 450-480 because there is a minor delay on losing the lock, I have even managed a 400-430 launch by boosting when I fired to make full use of the delay on the lock breaking. Not a huge benefit, but sometimes its what you need to get under the shields and land a shot. Or just to increase the chances of it making it to the target (I know the long range torp launch is a thing, and against a team not looking out for it that can be really effective, but I took out at least 10 torpedoes about two games ago, and at least half of them were fired within 700m of their targets. its not that hard to nullify a torp)
Ok, so I did some testing in practice mode and... well I got weird results. I actually survived longer while the targeting system was not destroyed than when it was destroyed. It was a minimal test, but I did 4 attempts ith the system still active, and 4 attempts with it destroyed, both using emergency shield to get close and particle bursts to take care of missiles (going purely on laser cannons/ion cannons), and only flew at 45% engine thrust while making the laziest "maneuvers" you could make (swaying side to side, slow 180 turns)... Despite the limited extent of the test, I find myself wondering what the targeting system actually does based on these results. Apparently I have just been strangely lucky when it comes to flying close to capital ships in online cap ship matches.
(edit) Ok, yes, disabling the targeting system does actually reduce fire rate and accuracy of turrets, but if that small test was anything to go off of, the effect is rather... minimal, compared to the other subsystems (losing the shield subsystem completely removes that regenerating layer of defense, and power systems opens up weak-points on the ship to deal good chunks of damage to it with a few well placed blaster shots). It feels weird that the effect isn't more immediately noticeable, but then again, I could just need to run a lot more than 8 trials to get a better sense of the effect.
When AI farming for Imperial, I noticed that the multilock won't bring the AI x-wings down in most cases. They will have a little HP left. When flying for Republic a multilock will bring all AI tie-fighters down however. Is this normal?
I think this is an issue depending on map according to my bomber guys! Hopefully this isn’t intentional and is being looked at by the devs!
5:46 Am I a child for laughing at the fact that he almost said ai farters?
Pro tip targeting is the best to ko , it allows the corvettes to do much more damage and last much longer
Y'all have a merry Christmas!!!
You too!
That depends, since we still got this virus all around.

But for now, let us make peace this Christmastime. Truces are a must, fighting is a no-no until the time is done.
Can somebody explain chaff? A few people have mentioned it now as clearly better but I was under the impression it only worked for straight away like bombing runs because it’s a static block right behind you?
It also goes around you, a full circle about 200m in all directions. Really good four jousting and preventing dumbfire rockets from eating you! You can also drop it in fromt of subsystems and stuff if you’re feeling really spicy!
Oh brilliant. Thanks! Hope you come back for another video to expand on your “movement, movement, movement” comment at the end!
@@mj_SR22 Drift, drift and more drift! Get used to flying fast and in an out of objects comfortably and you’ll be miles ahead of most opponents!
Why are the capital ships so small in this game?
What Auxiliaries does Scalp recommend for the U-Wing? He said the Reaper, but didn't say anything about the U-Wing. I would assume everything else would be pretty similar, since the U and Reaper are so similar stat-wise, but he specifically said that the TacShield/Marker combo was an Empire thing, then you guys moved on without talking about the New Republic.
Standard Laser cannons can be effective at dealing small amounts of capital ship damage. But Ion Laser cannons can do well at stripping down shields of the raiders/corvettes when on defence. Or taking out a TIE Defender.

Serious question - bombs. Love em? Hate em? How are they best used? Do missiles or torpedos do the same job better?
It really depends. Missiles and torps tend to be used over bombs from what i can tell!
ScalpWakka wrecked me and my friends in a game a few days ago! We didn't know who he was at the time, but could tell he's a streamer by the name, so a friend looked him up. The friend noted getting wrecked hard by him despite only having had the game for 2 days. ScalpWakka responded being apologetic over the matchmaking, which was pretty cool of him. We were overwhelmed by the match, but walked away with nothing but good respect for him as a player and as a streamer!
How do you record squadrons every time I try it just black screens or only records the sound
Try Windowed Borderless!
- Charlie
When you play ace combat so you destroy people lol, good tips but at this point I just need to hope my teammates can carry their weigh in their job. It’s hard to carry more then one job with a build made to do one specific thing very well. Hopefully people understand roles more and get better because honestly people who use x or a wings and the tie versions of that kinda don’t do the job they have to do (get enemies off bomber and support/obj.) and as well with bombers and supports not being able to do their damage or just support. Once people understand to focus on their one job it’ll be so much better because I have no friends so I must solo cue
Question for Scalpwakka: How much can someone alter the deal before we should start praying they don't alter it any further?
Im not sure im understanding your question!

Scalp is a dope streamer!
Is Ranked Match dead or why is it impossible for someone new to find any game?
10:04 what was that?
Imagine if this game had Occulus, HTC, and PS Move controller support.
I think I’ve played against scout before he’s insanely good
How bout capital ships what should you do to take down capital ships because it said for mid tier players it said interceptors but that’s not very good for taking out capital ships
This is a very loaded question. Piercing torps/proton torps and conc missile are very strong against subsystems. Tie bomber meme beam works too! Thats just surface level though, so much depth here!
Also to clarify, i said mid tier start to learn interceptor just for the movement mechanics! Using interceptor without being used to flying around stuff can quickly become a death sentence as they’re super fragile! It’s good to get used to objective runs when you first hop into fleet and add the pvp stuff later. But again, thats just my recommendation fly what is most cool or fun to you!
@@ScalpWakka ok so should I instead of getting up close and personal fire piercing torps to take out sheild gens then switch to a b wing for the other subsystems with torps and for the empire meme beam the rest of them

The built in ping system works wonders for co-ordinated with randoms! You can also use in game comms as well!
If no one is talking. Abuse the ping system. Sometimes it's a pain to get teammates to take out my tail when I ping them but other than that, mostly ping systems and bombers (B-wings especially)

Me, Ace Combat Hardcore veteran:
I finally started to put myself on AI farming duty for my teams in the solo que and it really makes a huge difference, but It's boring as hell. I kind of wish it wasn't so viable.
The game is a moba after all! It’s only so viable because the enemy team isn’t applying pressure to you! Good teams ensure that bomber stays dead and it puts no clock on their offense. Fleet battles without ai just doesn’t work at high levels!
Wish the AI were more than just target practice.
I just got 19 kills and 60k capitol ship damage today lol
Can we get a video on team comps and roles instead of just loadouts?
That is a very in depth topic! Team comps and roles get really juicy!
Using controller? If yes, I rly would like to see the controller settings
