How do you control the ships!? I have the game and it’s soooooo stiff!
Is it just me, or do PC users have a distinct advantage with control?? I continually over steer when chasing opponents (Xbox ONE), and tend to lose them. Although, the constant lag and bumping doesn't help either.
@@warriorpoet297 I'm a PC user and I actually use an Xbox controller. I find it much better than mouse. You probably need to adjust your sensitivity and deadzone settings.
@@JohnSmith-ej2hb Thanks for the advice!! Any recommendations on those specific settings? I'm not even sure what "Deadzone" means. I remember seeing it in my settings, but I was in a rush to start playing, and didn't bother reading too closely. Besides, some of those explanations don't read very clearly.
@@warriorpoet297 the deadzone is the amount you can move your joystick or mouse before it will actually have any effect on movement. I.e. if you move your joystick/mouse in a particular direction only just slightly (within the deadzone) -- nothing will happen (the cursor might move, but your ship won't).
Nobody:
Shen to anyone within 60 feet of him: “wanna know how I got this scar?”
Dude shen is cool
Shen is making a Darth Vader cosplay
(Gets chairs and tea, sits with tented fingers)

"Maximum Fire Power"
-Every Imperial (ever) xD
Everytime I get a Rebel in my sights: I have you now!
My brain in response: You may fire when ready.
As someone who’s never played with HOTAS but wants to for this game- I’d really love to see your setup!
Not a hotas fan but I wouldn't mind a nice flight stick
Likewise mine rocks up in a few days
Mouse and Keyboard ain't it chief lol. The game was made for a HOTAS.
Idk what a hotas is, what is it?
@@xasconrexom5741 Hands on thruster and stick
For controller users:
There's an option that allows you to swap the drift button from hold to double click on the left stick..
This allows you to concentrate more on the direction you wanna drift instead of wondering if the command was registered.. Ive ran into a lot of walls for not holding down the stick long enough.
Stay safe out there pilots
I still can't figure out how to drift, much less how it can be useful (XBox ONE)
@@warriorpoet297 it allows you to 180 in no time. You drift by boosting then clicking in the thumbstick and holding the direction you want to drift. Practice near a friendly capital ship. It will be more noticeable when you've got the capital ship for reference
@@warriorpoet297 It's not that complex, actually, You just press the boost button and...boost... and then you hold your boost button (default left stick) and turn your ship with right stick... Just watch to just press the left stick and not add any roll by moving it left or rigt. When done properly, it should look like it's demonstrated in the end of the video. How it can be useful - you turn around pretty quickly.... Which can be priceless in many situations... ;-)
BTW if you haven't played campaign, do it, at least first couple of missions, cause I think that as early as mission 4 maybe, the game teaches you to drift.
It may seem weird at start, but once you accomplish it a couple of times, it becomes natural and easy for you :-)
@@hoofarted Awesome! Yeah, I eventually realized that I wasn't pressing and holding the stick in order to drift. I was only pressing it again which just cut the boost. I'm good now. Thanks!
@@BobeshCZE I finally figured out what I was doing wrong...lol! Thanks!
They definitely need to give our pilots more things to do. Or at least show our characters a lot more. Like maybe a cutscene of them getting into their ship, or maybe a cockpit view of our character’s reaction to a victory
I was a little disappointed how little my character speaks or is vissibly even seen in the campaign. Im not expecting full conversations. Just little scenes like right before the first imperial mission where you see your pilot quickly and he says something generic. I just wanted that every couple of levels.
Richard Galdos exactly!
Richard Galdos it’s because the game is optimized for VR...
@SnipieDogX They said the game is complete as is and to not expect any DLCs.
I highly recommend playing the game Knights of the Old Republic or Jedi Knights 2 : Jedi Outcast for an RPG experience. This is a flight sim.
I love this game. It is actually my favorite recent star wars game. It is really good. I definitely would recommend it.
I agree, I've been enjoying it myself.
I don't have a HOTAS but I'd be interested in your setup. So far so good with the game for me, tho distributing shields with a controller is tricky.
I have both and honestly even if i perfer a HOTAS for the immersion they did a really good job with the controller.
Do you mean moving shields to front or back? If so there is an option in the controls setup which allows you to just tap circle ( on ps4 ) for front shields or double tap to move them to rear.
@@minners71 Honestly haven't actually looked through the options yet but I was just about to. Thanks for the heads up.
@@minners71 What do you use for deploying countermeasures then? the default for that is circle
@@johnspence234 Hadn't thought about that. I don't personally use the tap/double tap method but saw it in the options so posted it here. Personally I just push forward on left stick and press circle for front shields and pull back and press circle for rear. I'm guessing with the tap method it's still circle for countermeasures but more of a press than a tap or maybe it's moved to another button will check next time I'm on.
PLEASE do a walkthrough of your hotas. i've been changing mine, but even then it doesn't seem perfect
People really should play the single player campaign it will teach players all the essential skills.

Prepping shields before going into a fight is pretty much required in order to survive the Rebel side of the prologue mission on the highest difficulty, where you're boosting past the belly of the ISD. You won't make it halfway through without overcharged shields double-front.
Oh, that's how you're supposed to survive that. I ended up just setting the difficulty to story after dying... 8? 9? ...too many times.
Personally I keep all power to weapons in combat, I feel it’s more effective, but always adapting power usage depending on the situation
That’s what I do
Eck : I have about 10hrs of ingame time and i think thats concerning.
Me looking into steam : hmm I also have have 10 hrs of ingame time should i be concerned now? Nah its a great star wars game after a long time.
20 hours before last night's end for me haha. But total time, Eckhart was saying in 1 game mode was 10 hours so he might be closer to 30 hrs total.
I got 28 hours :D
I'm loving Squadrons thus far. Having fun learning and improving my skills in the various ships! The TIE Interceptor is my favorite of them all though.
"No one, literally ever":
Gunny: "So about the Battle of Mimban!"
Also yes for the love of God and Gunny, make a HOTAS video with both your PC and console setup. Would also help a lot of ppl if you show them how to get to that menu/how to start.
Nathaniel Nasarow she mentioned two different battles of mimban; the clone wars and galactic empire one
Yes to both of the setups!
Something useful I've found it using voice attack to manage certain keybinds if you don't have enough buttons or you just want to be more immersed. It really improves the game.
Best tip, play the campaign. I played half way before I even started multi-player and I dominated my first ranking games, they started getting a little more difficult but thats good, it means I was being moved to ranking games with better players, but the campaign lets you get comfy with the controls, allows you to practice maneuvers in your various ships, and let's you learn some good setups for mods. Then once you get to multi-player you'll be pretty ready to start goin at other players. Also, learn to micro drift. Just hit your boost then hit your drift then hit your boost as you drift and you come right out of the drift into a second boost. Great for dodging enemy's on your tail while in a faster ship like interceptors or even fighters. Also good for getting in to tight areas and avoiding fire after a bombing run.
Nice tip, thanks!
This game is finally a game that Star Wars fans want. I am probably gonna pick it up now I just didn't want to preorder after I did with Battlefront 2 and it was horrible. Maybe next Battlefront game will also be a "realistic" Star Wars game because that's what I want. In the shows and movies lasers will kill in one, two, or three shots, I want that in a game.
I would love a star wars tactical shooter with a fast time to kill
Just fyi if you like jedi stories Fallen Order was an AMAZING game and Respawn did the IP service
I tell everyone that THIS is what ace combat should have been doing but now that star wars has done it I am sure other dog fighting games will now follow
@@Lukke5000 yes exactly!
@@LulutheJester yeah my little brother bought it on his account and he loved it I am definitely going to play it eventually. I have no idea why I haven't yet.
I'd love to see your hotas setup and I'm sure others that use HOTAS setups will as well
This dude said "HOTAS" like 6 times and I don't know what he's talking about.
@@Joseph4997 It means "Hands On Throttle-And-Stick"
100% down for a walkthrough of your HOTAS set-up, Eck! Thanks for another great vid, as always 👍
As a tie bomber I like to make fast runs because you don't have the shields that the NR has. There is a shield system that also helps for a short period of invulnerability. That boost also increases your chances of surviving the run
My tip to Motive: give new players protected matchmaking. The majority of the first 10 games I saw consisted of 1 team all being sub rank 5 and the other team all at rank 9 or higher. It’s not exactly fun when every match consists of 1 team getting absolutely bodied, and is potentially going to turn new players off from the game.
Most of my matches involve one guy carrying the team, getting 15+ kills. I wouldn't normally complain, but it's ALWAYS the other team. I was the best on a losing team with just 6 kills. It's going to be a rough opening week.
GrizzyLatrizzy You just can’t have a competitive game with a ranked system, and only have a matchmaking system for half of your modes. LoL, DoTA, etc will still match players by ELO in their unranked game modes like ARAM or casual queue on summoner’s rift (which also the ranked map). LoL keeps players in protected matchmaking until level 30 as well. So to see none of that in a game that’s this competitive comes across as typical EA laziness and half-assery
@matthew Kirk your spot on calling this out! I've completed the story but have got annihilated online by the opposition because they are higher ranked etc!
@@bengejuknowit3048 I'm giving it about a month and a half before the "new game smell" wears off, and we get that black friday/ christmas boost of new players, when people are going to start complaining about it in larger numbers. And don't get me started on how the A-wing and TIE Interceptor are basically the only fighters that matter in Dogfight mode.
Just spent my first hour on multiplayer, can confirm.
Loving the content eck and loving Sqaudrons
Yes! Hotas walkthrough! I’m really questioning my layout, specifically with roll and yaw. The default has roll as rotating the stick, but I’m used to pushing it left and right for rolling. I switched it to left and right for roll, but that makes aiming less intuitive.
Also I’m subbing rn as to not miss the hotas walkthrough and for more tips!
Wow. Just used your interceptor tactics in ranked. 24 kills, two shield generators and a targeting system. Very effective, thank you ;)
UPD: 25 kills, ALL mc75 systems and a WIN 3vs5. Aaaaaaaaaaaaa :D
Impressive, most impressive!
We will continue to monitor your performance
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I'm still new at the game, but here are some settings I found very useful for the xbox controller:
1. Using the "toggle" setting for shields. You press X once to distribute shields to rear, twice for forward, and hold for balanced. You only have to hold for a quarter of a second so it's not obnoxiously long. I find this WAY easier to do, especially in the middle of a fight, than having to hold down X, move the stick forward or back, and then press X again.
2. Double-press for drift. I'm still getting used to drifting, but by default to drift you need to hold down the left thumbstick. I find it harder to control your direction when you have to press down simultaneously, and the input also doesn't seem very consistent. Double-clicking the thumbstick works better for me, but I suspect mapping to a button would be even better, I need to experiment.
3. When starting, set power redistribution to max instead of incremental, to get used to it. Once you're more comfortable, set it to incremental.
Been watching all your squadrons streams and I love watching y'all kick butt as a squad!
Just wanted to pop in and say thank you. this video changed how I viewed power management, and definitely helped me become more effective as an Interceptor-class. Still having trouble getting the hang of the drift, but nonetheless, this video was quite helpful.
Would absolutely love a video on your Hotas setup. Great vid! Very helpful
So far, in my 6 dogfight matches, I've learned:
1. Stick with a buddy. Being alone gets you killed.
2. Know when to stop. Sometimes the enemy flies behind a rock, you can hide behind it and ambush him on the other side.
3. Safety first. Don't give up a life for a kill, the respawn time are precious seconds when your squad is down one ship. Get out of danger, tell your squad to do the same.
4. Don't stubborn on one enemy. Some players are nimble pilots and may be better positioned than you. If he got away, he got away, better find someone you have an advantage on.
I never really realized what power shunting did for imperials. Thanks for that info
I bought myself a HOTAS recently and I haven’t used it much yet because I can’t find a configuration for it. Seeing your HOTAS setup would be a blessing!
Excellent video! Thanks so much for this!
Im a pretty good player, but what this video was teaching me was the power shunting and how important that is especially as an interceptor player. You want the engine power atleast lingering in there for a potential drift whenever that's needed, which should be a lot at with that class.
Grey almost every time you talk to him: I've been doing this for a long time
Haven’t been able to play since it’s release date with full time work and school but I’m sooo excited to get back on and master the bombers
Just got the game 2 days ago and it brought me back to my rouge squadron days. This video instantly made me better after I customized my controls
YES! Give HOTAS key binding tips!!! The HOTAS may not be the same as mine (Virpil throttle/TM F18 stick), but at least I'll know which commands should be bound.
its perfect Eckstoo love it thanks for tips and tricks too I could really use a practice as well I could make a squadron better
Great Video! I already have people on xbox asking me "how did I do so well" and "how do I get better?" I'll be sure to send this to them!
Such a fun game. Once they iron out the issues it's probably going to go down as one of my favorite games. especially if they end up adding more content
I wasn't too sure about getting this one since it was in First person but ended up did since you know Star Wars. Glad I did, I am really enjoying it a lot. I thought it would be really difficult, but it wasn't that bad although there is a slight learning curve,.
I find that when using interceptor I like to keep full power to weapons rather than shields, because interceptors already have a big speed advantage, so it helps to be able to pack a punch too.
I have been drifting like crazy you can double tap your boost mid drift for example to almost immediately hit full speed going another way while in an interceptor makes darting and dashing through the obstacles in fights intense and incredibly valuable. You can also do drift bys with heavy weapons when hitting a ISD or MC when using a lighter armored ship to make it less likely to just insta die. I use this by hitting the drift turning part way and just for example letting lose the missle barrage on the subsystem or the hull at that point then with the rest of the boost boom I am out and gone.
I would absolutely love for you to show your HOTAS controls!!! Keep up the great work👍
Yeah mate, really keen to see your hostas set up!
Looks like spending time playing has made me learn everything in this video. It was a nice watch by the way..
Squadrons is so goooooood. Being able to drift your star fighter and do a full uturn on someone before just wrecking them feels satisfying as all hell lol
I'd love to see your HOTAS setup! I've spent soooo much time finetuning mine trying to make it as efficient as possible. Seeing yours would probably give me some good ideas.
Got the game 6 months ago, waited for the hotas to come back in stock. Im hooked. Just started today with VR and its like a disney ride in my living room
Awesome video! Love your channel. Please do a HOTAS setup video. What HOTAS do you use.
Definitely want to see your HOTAS set up. I have a X52 PRO and my set up is pretty clunky and needs to be fixed!
Great tips. Yes, I am curious about not only your HOTAS setup and bindings, but also which HOTAS you use and if you have tried more than one. When stock/prices recover, I plan to pick a higher quality one up than the PS4/PC hybrid one I have. Also, I completely agree. This game has fulfilled dreams a younger me would have never even known to dream. While still perhaps a bit early, this is feeling like a very high pick in my best games of all time. Possibly the best. Squadrons in VR, with HOTAS, in multiplayer with a squad is a top of the top tier gaming experience.
Thanks for theses Tips I really need all the help I can get.
I definitely want to see your HOTAS setup! I cannot get my keybindings set correctly on my HOTAS and I've just been using mouse and keyboard.
Thank you for whoever did the subtitles
I would love to see a HOTAS walkthrough of your setup. I find myself getting overwhelmed when getting into those options.
I believe the button input for the emergency power conversion in a Tie Fighter is the ‘X’ button on a X Box controller and it’s the ‘🔳’ square button on PS4.
I would recommend learning to pay attention to the little targeting screen as it tells you how much health the target you’ve marked has to know if you should chase it and maybe head into a dangerous zone to get the kill or back off if it still has a lot of health less it also helps you to know what sub system you should attack or if it’s worth it to do a direct run at it
I have yet to go into a dogfight. Kinda scared, tbh. Thanks for your vids. They've helped my game a lot.
Would you consider making guides for the different ships? I don’t really have time to test everything myself and I’m eager to see things like if/how a U-wing could be an effective support.
Eck, could you possibly make some videos based on the best class set ups for each ship on each side, would be a major help!
I just picked this up and I've been impressed sofar.
One useful thing, when on Xbox, you can double tap X (my bad, I missed typed, double tap A) to target the ship currently targeting you, regardless of what you targeting computer is set too. That way you could set you targeting computer to attack capital ship sub systems, but still be able to ping an enemy ship attacking you.
Great video, liked and subbed! Question about your hotas - do you have a stick extension? Are you using curves in external software? Any tips for getting better accuracy in this game? I have a warthog and I am having a hell of a time with accuracy - I do not have this problem in IL2 or DCS
I'm really interested in your hotas setup. I bought one a few months ago but I never used it so it would help tremendously
Soooo stoked to play this
Distance and direction are always the two most important aspects to air to air combat. An being that the intel is free I'd say the targetting system and the cockpit are first priority to learn.
Ty i was having many problems figuring it out because i never play the tie fighter or x-wing games.
I have an old Logitech Wingman Extreme stick with only 7 buttons and my POV hat that is used for so much functionality. So I have a lot of remapping to do. Currently have a countermeasures button assigned I could probably make my boost/drift . I might embrace my X-Wing Alliance strategies of assigning different keyboard buttons to different targeting to help out.
It would be awesome to see your hotas setup as I plan on buying one soon for their game
I’d love some more tips and even load outs for Rebel ships.
Eck, can you do guides on attacking cruisers and loadouts you've found to be effective? I'm pretty good at hitting the MC75's, but I keep getting annihilated by ISD's, and I'm always looking for different ways to play.
My current favorite for fleet battles is the bomber class with the mini-gun, multi-lock missiles, and super laser. With power to weapons the mini-gun and super laser let you really put DPS on capital ships from distance, and the multi-lock missiles are great for the cannon-fodder AI fighters. I set the Y-wing shields up to reduce as much laser damage as possible and the TIE bomber gets the slam engine to get around better. This'll wreck corvettes and frigates, and I'm usually top of the scoreboard for capital ship damage. I just usually struggle hitting ISD's because it feels like their turrets are better placed to hit you before you get close so I just get melted as soon as I'm in range. I'd flank around back but the levels are too small.
What I did woth my boost was chsnging it to L2 on PS4 (The default button for targeting front and opening the target well). I moved the target functions to other buttons as I think boost is more essential in clutch combats and never been happier. For me it was really hard to click the stick and/or hold it down to boost/drift
That was fun to watch!
Love this game, I used to dream of playing a game like this when I was a kid.
Like the game. Just a thought: X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (1997) came with: a dozen different multi-player fleet missions, including strike, escort, dogfights, shipyard raid, small fleet battle, large fleet battle, etc. With the expansion there were 2 campaigns with at least 12 extended story missions for each side (way more than a six hour running time). This game is a lot of fun, technical issues on launch aside, but they are skimping on the content compared to their predecessors.
I would LOVE see a video on HOTAS setup!!
I Just got the game 2 days ago and have been mad BAFFLED until now, THANK YOU for this video!
Got this game last week and am still making my way through the campaign. I really like that mastering the controls is the core of the challenge to this game. it feels very old school in that regard. Biggest challenge for me right now is getting my thumbs mixed up on controller with how the roll and yaw are mapped by default. sometimes I even hit the throttle when I mean to hit the pitch. anyone else wrestling with this or have some suggestions on a better way to map it?
A Hotas settings video would be awesome!
I need to try the boost mapped to a button. I've been jamming the stick on my t16000m to the side, then boosting again to drift and it's somewhat unreliable honestly. Also, I would like to see your controls and compare to my own. I need to figure out something better for my target selection and shield controls.
Thanks for the tips, I’m defo stealing your interceptor load out.
I’d love to see your HOTAS setup, also which one are you using? As far as I can see there’s only one for Xbox one?
I’m personally loving the heavy damage rotary cannon and beam laser for Y wing and TIE Bomber. “Fire everything!”
Plz do a video explaining your set up, I’m sure others would also love that
Thanks for the video
This is helpful and all but. How do I change where my shields go and how do I do that energy shunt thing. And what’s your interceptor set up
Following your tips, just the first part on power management got me 19-20 kills on 2 consecutive games
HOTAS purchase recommendations and setup? Yes please!
For drifting, if your ship isn’t very maneuverable, you change lower you engines to half throttle to turn faster
Thank you! I was just thinking how I need this video. I am getting creamed out there. LOL
I'm VERY interested in your HOTAS setup!
Definitely interested in your hotas setup
A quick video on the HOTAS setup would be nice.
Thanks of this tips! I win nearly every Ranked Fleetbattle i play. 😁🐡
HOTAS Setup thank you :)
Hotas setup advice would be much appreciated
On PC the default is two buttons, to drift you first hit SPACE (boost) and then right before you turn, you hit SHIFT to drift in that direction
A-wing and intercepter are godly in dog fights once I got the hang of it I was crushing in dogfights
Hi Eck! I'm loving this game and had a blast with the HOTAS, but ended up switching to controller because I had a difficulty lining up precision shots with the stick. Do you have any tips for tighter HOTAS controls? Has the dead zone issue been a problem for you? Or do you think it might be because I have a cheap HOTAS (I had similar issues using it on XWA). Thanks man, loving your channel!
Yeah I put in about 3 hours with my HOTAS before I switched to controller. I had problems with mixing up the right stick and the left throttle with button layout.... and I mean in fights not binding keys. My brain just randomly mixes up with "d-pad" to use for what I want.
