    I much prefer flying Empire, due to power shunting. I feel greater access to boost is a lot better for my survivability than having shields, as is doing more damage to remove targets from the field quickly. Ironically, NR ships feel like they demand much better teamwork and coordination than Empire to work at their best, while Empire ships benefit pilots who fly more individually.
    As for boosting putting you in a straight line, yes, it is very dangerous unless you're sure no one is around to shoot (or cover is in the way). But when someone is on you, you can perform short boosts of speed rather than one big long one. Short boosts followed by spiraling, drifting, and juking followed by more short boosting can get you quite a bit of distance while also maintaining some evasive maneuvers.

  • @scottdean2199
    @scottdean2199 4 года назад +1

    Boost Zagging can also help - especially through environmental obstacles. Boost for 1-2 seconds, turn sharply (or drift to a new angle), boost again. You want to turn more than 45 degrees or through obstacles to keep them off. Keeping the engines at full during this might give you enough for a final push to a capital ship, and if they follow you they now have that to deal with.
    I'm torn on my favorite faction to play. I have some to really enjoy bombers (which is not what I expected). I like the shield management aspect of NR, but the innate tankiness of the TIE bomber is just fun.

  • @loot5532

    As someone who rarely leaves the sear of a U-Wing, I gotta say it has my favorite amount of maneuverability to durability ratio. Empire: I main (1) the TIE Reaper with Ion Cannons and (2) the TIE Fighter with Standard Cannons. I know a lot of people have already complemented the power shunting feature of the TIEs, but it really does bring a refreshing dynamic to the gameplay in comparison to the additional shield management. The Tactical Shields are already good for the Rebellion, but is invaluable for the TIE Reaper to have since TIEs do not have shield generators to protect themselves.

  • @jeremy6606

    Empire, only having two power systems to manage is nice helps with micromanagement. I find the star destroyer to have better turret coverage over its subsystem. Most importantly, the TIE bomber is much better than the Tugboat Y-Wing.

    I like the empire because of the ability to pour all the speed into power when I run out of ammo.

    • @thunderdragon2125
      @thunderdragon2125 4 года назад +3

      All weapons have minor aim assist, though some have less of it than others. When you fire when the reticle is red your shot it going to hit no matter what, and the aim assist makes that happen. The guided weapons have huge amounts of aim assist, and from my experience the burst lasers on the Tie Fighter and X-wing have the least.

    I honestly like playing support roles on either side. U-wing and Reaper. I'm still experimenting with builds, but I have 3 builds that I have made. Tactical, full support, and dog fight. It's pretty interesting with the dog fight build on reaper since I use ion missiles, I never thought that I would get more kills than any of my squad mates. I can definitely say the tips here are on point. Surviving as a support, you need that overshield. As for what shield you should go for, it's up to you. I, however, like to do Resonant Shield (Gives Laser charge rate 100% and has no shield decay for the cost of -25% shields) and I like it since I consistently throw all my power to shields. Having laser charge in addition to shields has proven to me to be a good tanky force. Support is generally slow no matter the engine type you pick, but having a boost is really nice, that's why SLAM engines (gives passive boost charge generation) are like the lover for support. Even more so for me since I don't put my power anywhere other than shields and I can still get boost charges from slam engines. Using those boosts to get out of those hairy spots has increased my odds of survival a lot.

    I'm literally 50/50 on which faction: Empire I love the TIE Bomber for attacking the corvettes and frigates. But I feel I just can't do the same with the Republic Y-wing, even with the same upgrades I can't punch the same damage in or be fast enough to escape.
    On the other hands I love being an A-wing to hunt down AI and enemy players. While I can do this with the interceptor, I just *enjoy* the A-wing more.
    But that's very ship specific - game play wise regardless of ships I like both equally. Boring answer, but I just feel each play differently enough to make it worth playing each evenly.
    Some of my "crew" are split over doing imperial or Republic as their specific preferences, so I end up playing each pretty evenly.

    I think, the game looks a little bit imbalanced when it comes to the attacking fighter vs. the one that is chased. It is fairly difficult to escape when someone is at your tail, since it is too easy for the attacking player to hunt another ship down. This is mainly due to the direction arrow of the HUD, which guides the attacker when his opponent manages to break the line of sight. In my opinion, when the player that is being chased has the skills to break line of sight, that should give him a small advantage. This could be achieved by getting rid of the direction arrow. In this case the attacker can still follow the movement of the fighter being chased by using his sensors, but it will be a little bit harder to do so and will need practice. At the same time the defensive player has the chance to escape from the targeting lock more easily or to even get in the attacking position, himself. So I would suggest ranking up to “Galactic Ace” should require the respective player to switch to instruments only, to prove their exceptional skills.

    • @leaflovingal1011
      @leaflovingal1011 4 года назад +1

      This seems quite interesting. I do agree, especially as an objective based bomber, that escaping other fighters is far too hard. In my experience your best bet is getting to the nearest repair area, and if you have shields, spamming them to the back as much as possible.

    • @74oshua
      @74oshua 4 года назад +1

      Honestly, I haven't had that much of an issue with it. Have you tried boosting towards the attacker? That lets you get behind them, and then you can drift to get back on their tail. If the boost mechanic didn't exist, I'd agree with you, but with well timed boosts and micro drifting you can get out of most situations against a single fighter. (Btw, I use instruments only. It's great)

    • @Kurayamiblack
      @Kurayamiblack 4 года назад +1

      I agree with the idea that the attacking player has a big advantage, but I also think if the arrow were removed, 2 people attacking each other would lose track of one another too easily and interceptors who drift toward the opponent and fly past them would have too easy a time escaping. Every time you fail to kill someone on a single pass becomes a huge chance for them to get away. With 360 degrees of turning, you won't know which way to turn to find your opponent again, and then there's the times when you overshoot the turn. That already happens alot but now it could cost you the target as they zig somewhere else as you correct yourself and lose them again.
      You'd basically have to fly far enough away from where the encounter happened and then turn around just to have a decent shot of re-targeting them and then instead of dogfights it turns into a series of strike runs. And the durability on some of these ships could make things frustrating especially in the Dogfight game mode where
      larger ships aren't around to get random kills and it's all on the pilot
      That's just my observation and opinion though

    While I like the fast and more drift focused (I noticed they can drift better) imperial fighters. the republic I prefer. Mostly because they can take more damage generally than their imperial counterparts. before a fight I can overcharge my shields to absorb more fire, while I put a majority into my weapons and engines, meaning I have better speed, manoeuvrability, and charge rate for my cannons. I can also swap more quickly between overcharging my engines and weapons, meaning I can do a lotta damage quickly and immediately swap to my engines to get my boost charged so when I have a tail (and I normally do knowing my luck) I can be tricky and manoeuvre behind asteroids more effectively using the drift and boost near in unison.

    I'm just getting the hang of drifting and dead drifting, and it has worked to improve my survivability. Also, it took me a while to figure out how to ping my pursuer, but I've noticed a difference during Co-Op play.
    All that being said, I've noticed that when the AI wants you dead, you're dead. Each AI "player" is a fucking sniper, and can pick you off at a km, no matter what evasive actions you take. I can't imagine players pulling that stuff off, although, with my luck, they'll be even worse.

    Still prefer Republic almost exclusively because of shields. I can survive whole games with hit and run tactics recharging my shield between each wave and using maneuverability to get it back even when I'm being tailed. The self preserving tactics of the Empire not having a shield on 3/5 ships doesn't work with my preferred methods. The laser charge can suffer a bit when necessary, but I try to never engage anything big without a full boost and a full overcharged shield.

    Hugging the enviroment was such an op strategy in battlefront 2. Im curious how it works out here (im about to jump in my first multiplayer match)

    If you shunt power do you just do it once or you keep having to do it?

    You can drift in all vehicles I believe, it is certainly hinted in the story that X, Y and A wings can.

    I prefer playing the Empire. It's just more fun to take out an M-75. When attacking a Star Destroyer everything is more straightforward. With the M-75 you've got to fly more creative.
    And I prefer power shunting to shields. It's just so much easier to keep laser power that way. All too often have I been out of power on a Y-Wing even when I put everything into lasers.

    Can someone help me out? I’m having this problem in squadrons you know how the game says that you need to play 10 matches to calibrate your rank well I’ve played 25 matches and the game still says I’ve only played 3

    I play on mouse and keyboard. And it is super hard to stabilize the ship. Shooting to me is just spray and praying. Or I just lay completely still and put full power to weapons and shoot at enemies charging me.
    I did realize that X wings are much easier to control than Tie fighterd

    I prefer running Empire bombers. Im usually averaging 50-70k of cap ship damage a game, but with the Empires bombers I usually feel like I have a fighting chance in 1 on 1's. The rebels bombers though I feel are better for cap ship runs as I have a couple games now with over 105k in damage... but in dogfights I cant get above like a .30 kd ratio with them. I really enjoy focusing the objectives and boost drifting out and picking a fight with a player or two afterwards.. The power shifting ability and output on the empires side I feel has a huge advantage over the shields in MOST scenarios.
    Thats just me and my playstyle though I guess. I would like to think im pretty good at power drifting, and evading people and their projectiles... but I cant seem to pull of anything on the rebel side. .

    I guess I just need to "Git gooder" as I was told by a kid in a lobby when talking with someone ELSE about the pros and cons of the sides.

    Re-thought my life and been living by those words ever since.

    Hugging rocks in the A-wing is bullshit. I'm a master of rock hugging from years of playing Elite Dangerous, I have the awareness of the size of my ship in relation to my view, and the A-wing seems to get caught ALL the time on rocks when I know the top of my ship is nowhere near. Seems like I can get closer with the Tie Fighter or Interceptor. Doesn't have that problem when getting close to structures, though. Just rocks.
