I started off with the 12 menu mres in the 80s. We ate everything cold. Didn’t care. It was fuel. In Iraq, eating the black bean bean burrito really got my motor running. King mre of all time is the beef stew with cheese, hot sauce and salt packet.
I transitioned from C-Rats to MREs, and it brings back memories. Everyone had their likes and dislikes during that time, providing an opportunity for trading. Bartering was quite common in the field. Thank you for sharing!
The good ol John Wayne tp ( takes no crap off anyone ) . Those small tubes of drink mix are sugar free ( which makes me happy ) I'm thinking that the apple sauce may taste better warmed up .
Yeah, that's a good one... I had a current one for breakfast one day with the kids so they could see what an MRE was as a fun activity. It was probably the best one to try with them because everything was sweet and they understood making the main into a taco. The beef stick was still edible but I really do think it's like a stale slim jim.
The first MRE I ever tried was the Menu 24 southwestern style beef and black beans. I love that kind of food (Mexican) and I read good reviews on it, so I decided to get one and try it. Probably not the best one to try first because in the world of MREs, you can only go downhill after this one! This is BY FAR my favorite MRE and although all the other ones I've tried were not bad and even very good, this menu set the expectations bar WAY too high! The only ones that come close are chicken burrito bowl and the old chicken fajita menu that has been discontinued for 10 years. Beef taco filling is pretty good too. I would eat this meal any day of the week! And I like it far better than any fast food.
My first MRE was the beef roast with vegetables and I had it back in 2015. I ate it cold in a obstacle course competition in Camp Bullis while I was in JROTC my senior year of high school 😂 funnily enough it tasted decent. It had real strips of beef. I have no idea what menu number it was nor how old it was but it wasnt a halal menu and it definitely did come in the whole cardboard box as opposed to the sleeves they have now.
Never heard the claim about Ranger School requirement of one-handed eating while standing & holding the weapon overhead ... sounds like a tall tale, or at most, some sort of silly pastime competition. I recall there were races to open C-rats with the P-38, with the prize being the canned fruit. There's definitely truth to consuming the entire ration, but that makes complete sense considering you're only issued 1 a day. I never got a slot (I served prior to the "female Rangers" & infinite recycles) though I was in "Ranger Challenge" which amounted to ROTC varsity prep to qualify for the precious slots (rather than going to standard Cadet Basic). A game we *did* play was blindfolded timed assembly of an M1911, M60, and M16 from a box of mixed parts.
Soldiers fight better with high morale. Good food is one of the best sources of high morale in the field. It's why so much money and time is spent on MREs
Right!! Makes me so happy. I came here just for the MREs. I mean I'd still support the channel if he did do other videos, I just wouldn't enjoy them as much. WB NATHAN ❤
Can tell this guy was never in the army and had to live on MREs for a couple of weeks. Usually at them cold or luke warm. Used heat tabs with canteen heater to make coffee.
Mess hall in Ranger training was torture. We hated the instructors. We were forced to stand to eat. And we never knew how much time we had. It might be a few minutes we might have one. They said stop we had to stop. Even if the spoon was at out lips.
Hello Nathan. Good meal. Unsure of Epic. Good solid meal, regardless. Holds up well. Most simple meals are good. You ate well friend. Need me, Yell. Peace, John. Nicely done , sir.
Served 1991-92 here in Finland , Lapland . We ate a lot of Mre ,that time and everything was pretty good . Execpt canned cheese , it was tasty as ski wax😂😂😂 but I'm still alive , so it wasn't so bad😂😂😂
This is a good one Chili beans Is still my favorite I like the cornbread and everything is has They is a few good ones But still not like other country’s We need better for our troops
All US Mains are basically Chef Boy R dee in a pouch. Because of that, they are much better quality than the dog food the Russians get. Althouth the Asian countries have menus that appeal to their pallets and I haven't tried any of mine. I have A chinese Navy, Singapore, and a JDF main from Ebay that I'm honestly kind of afraid to try. I think I saw this guy eat the Chinese one I have, at least the package was the same. I am content to live vicariously through channels like this. But I'll gladly take a US MRE out into the sticks for camping or hunting any day of the week and not really worry about it. They are good for the most part. I liken the Spiced Apple in Sauce to store bought apple pie filling, or like the stuff they put in the apple pie things from the gas station... they're almost too sweet. The beef stick isn't bad but it's always dry, it's like a stale slim jim. My least favorite thing to find in an MRE is Apple sauce, or a smoothie. They don't taste bad but those textures put me off even in regular life.
It’s really only the American mres that look bland and boring and they do have that mre taste. Western European and baltic country rations look amazing
I think that all MREs should include salt, pepper, and hot sauce in every accessory packet. Like the Frank's Red Hot commercial says, I put that Sh*t on everything!
The most difficult thing for an individual to do is to think and function under stress. The more stress the more difficult life becomes. Can tou open and consume a MRE with just one hand? Problem 1. how to open the sealed package. See what I'm getting at?

I love all the funny words you use. Keep using them. They get me laughing every time. Especially teriyukie! 😂😂 It's definitely nice to see you back!

As a kid growin' up in the Air Farce I thought the C-Rations were treats...lol
I took them camping

I agree with everything you said above. Those are my favorites. I wish I could buy that shredded southwest beef to make sandwiches with. So delicious!

I missed ur vids bro!! Watched all your old ones some more then once..

Never had an MRE teriyaki beef stick that was any good. Usually I throw those away.
Where’s the Matches. Did they stop putting Matches in?
Thank you Nathan. That looks like good food I could march on that.😅
why does everybody expect a gourmet dinner these mre's are simply made down and dirty fill you up give you energy thats it. The hell with taste. LOL
Don't know man chicken burrito bowl is pretty damn tasty
Soldiers fight better with high morale. Good food is one of the best sources of high morale in the field. It's why so much money and time is spent on MREs
so is your DI's BOOT up your Butt@@thatperson3485
no way ese a real mexicano wouldn't get caught dead with that in his hands@@hukaman88
In Vietnam I ate c - rations that were packed in 1952 . I was born in 1952 .
Glad you're back into the MRE game 🎉
I was bummed when he told us he was shutting down the channel. I'm really glad he's back
@otravis676 Yes sir
Right!! Makes me so happy. I came here just for the MREs. I mean I'd still support the channel if he did do other videos, I just wouldn't enjoy them as much. WB NATHAN ❤
Got this for Christmas and can't wait to try it out just wished it had some regular coffee.
I'm British and my grandfather fought with the Gurkhas in WW2, he said the would eat all their rations in one go, so they could carry more ammo.
LOL my wife actually pronounces them as Tor-til-ias. She doesn't understand why I crack up every time!
Nate that is one of my favorites and I always keep them on the fire truck for the crews they love this one
Can tell this guy was never in the army and had to live on MREs for a couple of weeks. Usually at them cold or luke warm. Used heat tabs with canteen heater to make coffee.
3k views in 9 hours! Thats pretty good dude!
😊
I'd tuck into this one. 😎👍
American mres are a classic example of we understand why you do it this way, but it still doesn't mean that you should do it that way
only thing missing is the coffee.....
odd I just finished doing the 2016 version of this menu, only differences was mi e had cinnamon gum and hickory smomed beef stick
Again let me say yippeeeee you are back ! Great video ! 😊
This MRE looks really good I could live off these no problem
A regular flavor beef stick would be better.
Rangers eat everything!?|? I wonder what a flameless ration heater tastes like?
Mess hall in Ranger training was torture. We hated the instructors. We were forced to stand to eat. And we never knew how much time we had. It might be a few minutes we might have one. They said stop we had to stop. Even if the spoon was at out lips.
INPROVISE, ADAPT, OVERCOME
That one and the shredded beef and bbq and the taco was the best
Everything looked delicious I have this menu but it’s older I hope it has the cake and apples so I can mix them
Hello Nathan. Good meal. Unsure of Epic. Good solid meal, regardless. Holds up well. Most simple meals are good. You ate well friend. Need me, Yell. Peace, John. Nicely done , sir.
I'd heat the applesauce bread and the apples, tear up the bread and serve the apples on it.
Hahaha i love how you pronounce that... It they don't want it said like tortilla they shouldn't have spelled it that way🤣🤣🤣
This guy quit and now he is back again, cool.
Served 1991-92 here in Finland , Lapland . We ate a lot of Mre ,that time and everything was pretty good . Execpt canned cheese , it was tasty as ski wax😂😂😂 but I'm still alive , so it wasn't so bad😂😂😂
YES YES YES

LOVE YOU LIKE FAMILY NATE
Thanks Duane
This is a good one Chili beans Is still my favorite I like the cornbread and everything is has They is a few good ones But still not like other country’s We need better for our troops

Wish I had cases of these things
After chili Mac prolly my favorite
One of my favorites is the brisket , very good
What no Tabasco? Everyone knows it makes an MRE a gourmet experience
I really miss the Vietnam era M.R.E.s with the small packs of cigarettes.
I love watching MREs, but I think Western MREs look bland and boring. Do some czech, serbian or belarusian stuff :)
Yeah, enjoy your canned sardines and store bought stuff that have no chance of lasting. Hahahaha.
It’s really only the American mres that look bland and boring and they do have that mre taste. Western European and baltic country rations look amazing

Tabasco makes some of the MREs much better.

Art said the FDA shut them down. Not sure why but it sucks either way.
MREs today are much better that the brown bag MREs and C rats of the early 80s.
I don't see anyway you could open all that stuff with only 1 hand
You have teeth.
What is with the serving tray??? Silly...
not a Mexican MRE Hopi Apache Navajo Mexican American thus SOUTH WEST MRE
HELL YEA BRO
I guess a bayonet doesn’t count as a knife?
uploading depends on your internet speed
Where is the hot sauce???? MREs are only edible when hot sauce is added.
