1000 nerd points if you can name all 3 things in that quick "ultraviolence" clip at 13:56 - also, don't forget to check out the Veil Touched pre-order page: gamefound.com/projects/miniwargaming/ravaged-star?refcode=KX2MUKXc0ESndQiJx1HXmA
Pretty sure the second one's Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor, not sure about the other 2.
quake, guyver, and the last one eludes me - i think its a isometric dungeon crawler but cant remember the name
Quake 2 and Guyver... But you got me beat on the 3rd.
Inception isn't an old meme! It's only from (check notes) 13 years ago.
Mother of God.
The missing game on everyone's lips is The Immortal.
I only remember this because an issue of GamesMaster magazine I had showed detailed frame by frame stills of the exploding head animations.
:)
How to paint World Eaters without telling everyone that you are going to paint World Eaters. Stellar job!
I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even think about that, haha
@@MidwinterMinis That’s even better! Well, off we go for fancy shmancy gore when new Khorne line drops thanks to an accident… Tzeentch’s machinations can be really clever
Had the very same thought, I love the 30k paint scheme. The blood shows up much better! Great idea with the toothpick though, I was making a terrible mess with my finger.
How close can we get to 40k without GW suing us?
Ravaged Star-Team: Hold my beer!
This is such a doable way to achieve a super detailed look without actually "wasting" much time to get the details, I love it
Including a ‘what went wrong’ segment is incredibly helpful! Many videos don’t show that, which can convey a sense of ‘you’re doing it wrong’ for newer painters, when they make mistakes. Thanks for keeping that in the video!
Great to see Hatty in more videos. These models are amazing. Great work making it quick and ready for play. Having it pre-assembled just make it easier and removes a step just paint and play. New paints were great. Hopefully you'll paint more of these. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
What a treat for a Monday morning!
Those sculpts look so good!
8am Monday morning, perfect time for gory angry space lads
Wow I did not expect red paint and glue to trigger such a... visceral reaction from me, but I JERKED my head away when you were applying it to the weapons hahaha. Gross look definitely achieved.
"I call this home-brew chaos space marines army, 'Hepatitis.'"
Awesome gore effects and highlights, you two!!!
When I first saw the Ravaged star minis I thought they looked way too busy and unfocused, but this paint scheme makes them look really nice! I might actually get some of them
I'm actually starting a CSM/World Eaters army, and my scheme is pretty much identical to this one - white armour, red robes and obscene amounts of gore splattered everywhere. Maverick Nicholson's videos helped a lot, but I scrolled past this video and was astonished to see a Marine that looked just like mine!
Epic point job, keep it up.
For spraying inks, I've found it to be much sturdier when I mix some matte medium into the ink. You can varnish after the ink instead, but that takes more time than just mixing in some medium 🙂
Also, the paint jobs ended up awesome!
Great tip! I'll remember that :)
Weird tip: Apply your black wash to the models with them upside down. This will get the wash to pool in the undersides of the details more effectively and will make the shadows look more realistic.
Cool scheme, these models look really cool, though a little too busy at the same time, so it's really great you've come up with a nice method to tackle them!
They are busy, for sure, I would be a bit intimidated by painting them with a more traditional method.
@@MidwinterMinis I love a challenge (painting wise,) but even I feel a little scared of the details, it would take me years to finish that box traditionally!
I pretty much exclusively play A Song of Ice and Fire, and I think the thing I love the most is that the models come pre-assembled. The more I watch Warhammer videos, the more blown away I am that y'all have to assemble AND paint them. Were it me, I'd never get anything on the table that way. Sure, the pre-assembled minis aren't always the best, but sure makes for a more approachable experience. Thanks for showing another game that follows that same methodology! Will definitely check it out once it's released!
Nice to see Dave has eventually arrived with so much Chaotic prevalence, as he is exalted to being a Chaos Combatant and has been most of his career in Gaming. And cheers to you Guy and Hattie for allowing us a glimpse of the future Chaos.
The toothpick technique is fine and all but you can also load a brush with a blood effect paint, hold it in front of the model and then blast the brush with an airbrush.
I prefer GSW True Blood because it's thin so you can airbrush it. It's super easy to get some speckling simply pulling the trigger back with no airflow to let little bit of it build up on the needle and then just press the trigger down to shoot out a speckle.
I've got no idea how the science behind True Blood works but if you let it pool it will actually build up in volume just like blood for the blood god builds up, which is nice.
That sounds cool! I'll have to add it to the list next time I order from GSW.
Ooooh that blood splatter and random gore chunks method is very cool. I think I'll be using that one!! Thanks!
That was the most Dave response I've seen Dave do in a while.
Full disclosure, I got a full backer pledge the moment the game found went up. But a couple things to follow up to from Guy's info. Price; I did a calculation and for a 500$ pledge and shipping (I'm in the US, so I had pretty low shipping, but I don't remember exactly how much it was) it ended up around 3-4$ a model, and that was including things like the tanks as one model. Definitely do the math yourself, in case I missed something, but it was a good deal for mini hoarders like me.
The line: there are tanks, tons more troops and specialists and some giant demons. You can see all of them on the game found page. You can also buy a pack, about a quarter of the line, which focuses on one part (troops, demons, tanks, etc)
Production: they're either almost done preparing or are done and are waiting for the minis to be made and shipped over. I only know what's in the updates, but it seems likely they'll be shipping out in six months to the end of 2023 at the latest. So these aren't that far away, but there is still some final things to get done. Lazy Squire Games is the other main part of the team, so it's not just Dave figuring out these logistics in case anyone was worried.
The game: yep, that is public info. There's a preview for the next campaign, which includes Gorkog (bug monsters) and Immani I think they're called (space dwarves). That won't launch until the veil touched is done. If you are a backer of the veil touched you also get access to the beta rules in the next campaign even if you don't back the next one.
More info: if you love lore like me, Baldemort (sp?) did a fantastic video synthesizing some of the lore into a story of the Veil Touched. Liam Dempsey did a video on proxying them for 40k. The game found page is stacked with pictures and details, and the next one is up for preview.
Also also, as someone who hates space dwarves, oh my God the vehicles look awesome I want those mechs so bad!
They came out so killer, love the effects on these guys
Oh my god! MOM! MOOOOM!!!! IM ON MIDWINTER MINIS!!! 🩸💀🤟
Loved this video. The gore on the Warriors is class. I've never got to paint anything, but hopefully with my birthday coming up and being new to WH I'll get some. Really want to get into kitbashing and making my own types of Chaos
Birthday Warhammer is best Warhammer
I backed mine when they released last year, looking forward to them coming in (Especially looking forward to not having to build them). I really do hope they end up for sale after though, would be such a shame for people coming in later to miss out.
Those are really nice. I really like Hattie’s paint job. Simple but really effective and pleasing. 👍 Thanks for the links.
Ooohhh! I backed the full project with everything in it. I am so excited. As a beginning painter, I am a bit intimidated and clueless as to how I am going to paint them up. But this just might end up being the scheme I go with. So cool. Thank you!
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THROOOOONE
This is one of my favorite color schemes so far. Taking a look at the color palette, blue-eyes white dragon comes to mind and I'm all for that. Great work!
Looks cool, I like the lighter less saturated colors which makes the blood really pop. Pretty neat
Some blood! So much gore! Bring it on! Let the corruption and the murdering begin!
Thanks dave! The painting is great too.
This really felt like a 2 for 1 video. It’s cool to see and hear your different approaches. Both sets turned out great.
Tip for the blood splatter, you got a airbrush, so just dip the brush in the blood paint of you choice and use the airbrush to blow air through the brissles and make a super Nice blood splatter , airbrush gives more control
Thank you Guy and Hatty .
🐺
Dave approves. Blood for the Blood God! Those cultists look slick!
These models are cool but my god there's so much going on with each model.
If you dont speed paint these dudes i cannot imagine doing a full squad of them
I sort of feel they have abit too much going on detail wise, but they're still kinda cool
Mental, totally from a Metal Album cover!
Really amazing work for both of you! Honestly the deal for Raveged Star is so RUclips! I don't mean to bunger but What MiniWargaming has done is incredibly RUclips of themselves
Absolutely never disappointed with the content and minis. Fantastic job as always Guy!
@2:16 "jerry, go vape somewhere else, we're trying to film a video here"
I've been painting for a really long time but I think these are fantastic for beginners. It's also nice to see more of the Ravaged Star minis. I can't wait till mine come in!
really good stuff mate keep up the good work
As someone who just finished a similar project. Mat varnish the modle before blood effect then add and its all perfect. No need to blood/varnish/blood
😂Big thumbs up for matching nail polish! 👍
This painting style is exactly what I did with my chaos tau. White armor, pale skin of varying tones and a lot of chains and gore!
This is pure art!!!
21:04 These models are definitely acceptable for customization!
Strongly approve of the very short Enzyme clip from the Guyver 5
Ah yes, my favourite Veil Touched Warriors, the Planet Munchers.
Love Hattie ladies awesome paint job.
OMFG I HAVE BEEN WATCHING MAVRICK FOR SO LONG
These models look amazing love the gore puts a real chaos look to them
Chaos Warband: The Star Ravagers.
Warcry: For Gore and Glory!
Lead by: Chapter Master Hadrock.
Info: Formerly known as the Star Seekers, the Fleet-Based Space Marines chapter fell to Chaos out of necessity, having no other choice due to the Imperium declaring them heretics for their butchery. The Glorious Blood is their Main Battleship of their fleet, a truly impressive on at that. They seek out other Warbands as well, as they despise their brethren for their willingness to fall to them.
Despite their love of gore, they are an Chaos Undivided, and care about the non-Space Marine crew members, valuing them as equals in battle and duty. Known to induct Guardsmen into their ranks if they surrender, unlike the World Eaters, they do not mindless slaughter, but still enjoy it regardless.
I think a few more regular paint accents would have helped the armour. The regular human models looked much better. Thank you for the future ideas.
Dana Howl! Welcome back! Hilarious!
love these marines! ugh, I missed yall's's content
More honest downsides;
Bendy plastic
Soft details in places
Overdone details all over the place make the models extremely busy
Harder to paint because of busy soft details
Oh those sculpts, poses, no assembly, mix of details. Man those figures are the mix of pretty and easy mode for beginner friendly techniques. I am not kidding, They look downright relaxing to paint.
And I am grateful these weren't painted with golden demon/crystal brush levels in mind. No shade but hobby videos have had a creep in skill level/level of commitment that has been daunting.
This is doable, and anyone not in a painting competition would think they're a really professionally painted army.
You had me at " Five Funky Fighty ladies"
Awesome 👍
For blood splatter a great tip (from Broadsword Wargaming) is to put the blood paint on an old brush and use the airbrush (with no paint) to blast the paint from the brush to the model. I love Army Painters Glistening Blood as it really contrasts my usual grimdark schemes.
As a backer, it is great to see these models getting a hands-on treatment ahead of getting my own mitts on them. Cheers!
Absolutely going to use all these gore techniques on my Leviathan Bugs!!
This scheme may be used for my space wolves succesor
I wanna see a Hatty vs Guy starter box paint-off.
I like it! Nice job!
This video hit me right when I needed it 😊 I'm about to start painting World Eaters for Horus Heresy and I was looking how to paint white armor, I'm definitely following this guide 🥰❤ thank you for making these videos.
pretty bloody cool!
Your painting videos are beautifully made and always inspirational. This scheme has encouraged me to buy the Ravage Star models - or grab a box of Khorne Berzerkers when GW releases them. Thank you.
magic
I would love to see ultra marines that look like this!
🎉I got some chaos marines recently so this is handy
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
Space Dwarves and bug monsters... Deep Rock Galactic!? Hype!
haha, i was thinking the exact same thing!
Definitely plan on backing this project as soon as I can
Nicely done and very instructive. I’m just now building my first Warhammer army.
Space bugs versus space dwarves you say... sounds like someone would rock some stones over this
Tip: edge the blood splatters with a translucent orange. As real blood can go towards that kind of tone when smeared thin.
Beautiful Work. Korne Approves
Great video! I'll ll definitely be using some of these techniques on my World Eaters and Khorne Berzerkers!
Can someone riddle me this: How come people are complaining that some of the GW's sculpts are "too busy/complex/convoluted/unnecessary/etc.," but then go, take other minis who are clearly busier (by stylistic choice and I'm not judging here) and go with "that's so great and easy to do"? Ever since I saw those first showing up months ago, that's what is been said
Dangerous looking boyos. I reckon an oil wash would push them quite a bit further, if that's not too advanced for the target skill range.
The one thing I'd change, is the base. The skulls are awesome, but I honestly prefer making my own base. Alot of the time I also make Dioramas for my friends, I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable cutting the base off of these Ravaged Star miniatures. That's just my personal opinion, a couple friends of mine linked me this video, and already talked about paying me to make them a little diorama with these things, but goodness gracious are the bases on those things wonky.
I just saw cool army models
That’s my long and truly inspiring story of how I got into warhammer 40K.
And that’s the genuine absolute and utter truth.
This video has condemned my wallet into emptying itself for a heresy World Eaters army
Love the vid and alternatives to GW as it gives competition to the market we need more of this so that we can get more variety in the Hobbie. Models look great.
The red-on-white look is horrifying. I love it.
this video is pale sand heaven and I love it!
Looking like some amazing Heresy-Era World Eaters! I'm not sure if I'm taking the plunge into the new army in 40k. But if I do, I'm definitely going for this off-white color, plus OBSCENE amount of gore of course
damn guy you never disappoint these veil touched miniatures look awesome and you don't mind if i use your paint scheme for my veil touched do you
Thanks! Go for it! :)
Thanks for reminding me about the se
Short Story in which a Chaos Marine rips another Chaos Marines jaw off with his bare hands. So much gore here... Dave would Approve I'm sure.
Excellent
Yeah I’m stealing this for my World Eaters army. Honestly just Red and Brass is boring, but White, blue, and Brass with blood everywhere is cool.
My man knows Guyver. Man of culture .
Yall are making me consider repainting my chaos marines i hope you know lol
I was thinking of doing something similar with the upcoming Khorne releases, now I don't need to go in blind
What stopped me from buying these minis is the fact they came already made
I ordered these forever ago! I can't wait to get my hands on them to be the start of a world eaters army
Cool!
1:16 this mini looks like hector from the borderlands 2 fight for sanctuary DLC XD
Khorne would be proud! :)
