Fantastic video Guy; now I have a perfect excuse to make my own Slamanaders army
Some other things about the Salamanders too:
    - Vulkan is a perpetual. Everytime he dies, his body disappears and he respawns somewhere else in the galaxy.
Vulkan lives, and his return is inevitable!
    - Salamanders are very self-reliant; they frequently make their own custom field repairs to their weapons and equipment instead of getting it repaired by a Techmarine: no two Slamander weapons are the same, so you can go nuts with not just armour upgrades, but weapon upgrades as well!

5:20 it's also worth pointing out that the Eldar (not sure if they were Drukhari at the time,) used to come onto Nocturne and hunt the people for sport before Vulkan was picked up by Big E. This is more of the reason why Salamanders strongly dislike the Eldar, but more specifically the Drukhari.

It was the Drukhari that raided Nocturne and that is the reason they hate them. They don't actually hold any extra ill will against the Eldar otherwise, but they're more than happy to put an Xenos to the torch that the emperor commands.

Regarding edge highlighting: if anyone wants to expedite it even more, I recommend keeping it patchy. Short lines here, dots there. Not worrying about completely highlighting an entire edge. It's faster and gives a chipped appearance - making it looked battle damaged and amplifying the effect if you've also added scratches.

Great video, love to see attention being given to the Salamanders
As a Salamander painter myself, here's some other tipps:
    1) I prefer to do the opposite of Guy's lava base effect but that's just preference. Instead of making the spots darker, you can go the other way around and start off with a uniform red and then go lighter. Gives it a much more subdued look.
    2) Experiment with secondary colours. For example the red eye lenses work from a lore standpoint but often they're depicted with yellow ones instead, hiding their red eyes. This can be used to make unhelmeted marines stand out a bit more and imo aids the more humane look of the Salamanders.
Further I usually paint any scales in a dark red but I've also seen them in black or violet. This breaks up the green nicely. Same thing wiht the gold, you can go for a dirty look with a brown wash or give it a red tinge with a red wash, which makes it stand out that bit more from the green
    3) To get some of that dusty look if you want to have your Salmanders in an ashy field or waste, use pigment powders! They're excellent for this though not that good at sticking around if you actually play with them unless you lock them in with a coat of varnish, which imo dampens the effect a bit.
Lastly there's the shoulder trim question that I see a lot online when it comes to Salamanders. Sometimes they're painted with golden trim, sometimes with green. You can go with whichever you like, I personally like giving only the veteran and high ranking units a golden trim, while standard troops stick with the green trim. Makes those other units stand out a bit more.

I've been meaning to start painting Salamanders for a while now, as I have a number of old Tacticals sitting in my pile of shame. I considered doing a few for the recent 90s marines painting challenge, but had to go out of state for a week, which scuppered any possibility of that. I definitely think a set of Sternguard Veterans using heavy Spellcrow parts would look lovely.
For those looking to spice up the paint scheme, consider painting flames on legs of your infantry. Drawing the brush downward only can make the flames seem to fade as they rise, as paint tends to collect where the brush stroke ends.
If you're making drake scales on your models, consider using a completely different color from the armor, like red or yellow, to make them pop.

I've been using thermoplastic moulding material (blue stuff) to make impressions/moulds from the Forgeworld Firedrake Terminators, particularly the tabards, for my conversions. There's also loads of 3d printed helmets (shapeways and etsy) with stylized drake helms similar to those worn by aforementioned Terminators and the Pyroclasts.
Also I've gone for a slightly more natural/muted green using Molotow Premium's Fern Green as the main colour, sprayed from above and sides leaving the black just showing on the undersides. The whole model is then given a Biel Tan green wash then given a light drybrush with Moot Green for quick and easy highlight, giving the impression of shadows on the underside but still with a slight green tone.

The new studio looks great! And the Salamander looks even greater!! But i think instead of "Astartes Archive" it should be "Archive Astartes". Just seems fitting with "Adeptus Astartes".

    Absolutely love that milliput trick!
And if you don't have a cool texture thingy, you can use different stuff for that effect, lke thise toy dinos or even an avocado... It's the correct green after all.
Loved the video format. I'm not usually a sapce marine person but they're so central to lore of 40k that it's cool to get that background in.

zomg..... This is exactly the video I have been looking / waiting for.
Getting back into the hobby after a LONG hiatus, and bought the Leviathan box. I started painting the Tyranids to get used to painting again, and was going for the Salamanders as the chapter.
Vulcan Lives! That's the battle cry, right?! :)
Thank you for your videos, Guy. I always enjoy them.

My assault terminator squad feature seraphon Saurus Guard shields, and their clubs converted into two handed long thunder hammers. The tops of the saurus heads make for nice “drake skulls to get some more “dead animal bits” onto shoulders too.
An Ironclad dreadnought, and blood angels dreadnought kits can be converted together to bring back the “Iron Dragon” Brayarth Ashmantle. Who might just be one of the lost artifacts of Vulcan’s return.
Let the fires purify and cleanse the galaxy of his enemies!

This is great!! Thanks man subbing to the channel. I’m building a deathwatch army but over the years I’ve painted all my extra marines from kits as salamanders. Love them if I started over I would just just go straight salamanders.
