My older, (couple of years) European spec 2.8CRD....Rubicon unlimited...does make that Buzz and it is an annoying sound........I have gotten used to it, but thinking now, I,m sure it is not for 3 minutes...maybe one and a half minutes.....It runs long enough for me to get out of the car in the Garage/barn and close the big barn doors on it...sometimes it has stopped, sometimes it is still going. It also makes other creaks, tics and short whines?? I take it as part of the character of the thing. I also have a 2015 European spec 2.8CRD Sport, same engine just older circa 60,000 miles and I,m not even sure that one makes the noise?? It is a 6 speed manual trans.?
@@shmohsin-lasvegas Is that where the return pump is? The pump that sends def from the def tank would be in the back, but the pump that clears out the system would be at the other end. I guess an update from SCO would be good.
@@asaleemeadows According to the 2021 owners manual on page 195: "The DEF pump will run for a period of time after engine shutdown to purge the DEF system. This is normal operation and may be audible from the rear of the vehicle."
I have a 2022 Overland Eco Diesel and it does the same thing same duration. Its a normal operation. You can try and test drive a Ram 1500 Eco Diesel, Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel and it does the same exact thing.
The noise also happens on the 2.0 turbo and Alfa Romeo turbo. It is a pump for cooling the turbo. Mine does it. The sound level is not consistent from vehicle to vehicle.
I'm not Jeep Wrangler Diesel owner; however, I would have to say yes; it is normal with a turbo. The length of time you will hear that sound may vary. I hear very similar sounds from my turbo vehicle. One does get use to it. It is my belief that those sounds are normal checks that the onboard Computers are functioning & prepping for the next stages...engine usage completed, engine at rest, and the next quick startup on demand, etc...
Same exact problem after 5,000 miles when I picked up from dealer didn’t have this noise .dealer show me a document that Chrysler refer don’t do any repairs Socks
It’s normal it will last longer if you do more city driving it will go for longer, but not sure it should last 2 to 3 minutes. Hopefully the dealer was able to fix it please let us know it they did.
S H M I didn’t get any reply back from FCA. I have seen a few RUclips videos with other eco diesels with the same noise. I’m considering this to be normal as of now. Will report back if anything changes Cheers.
@@santacruzoverlander Yes, definitely looks like it is designed to do it. But it would be good to know what it is - whether is is a DEF return pump or coolant after-run pump. I will try to find it from my side too. Thank you.
S H M FCA won’t give me any information over the phone. They wouldn’t even get me in contact with a diesel specialist for questions. They insist I take it to a dealer. I’m going to let it ride.
Would love to hear the definitive cause but my Jeep was delivered to my house and I immediately called about this. I've located the device but have no idea what it does. It lasts at least 2 mins. Im sure its normal but curious minds want to know 🧐

It's clearing the DEF back into the tank
If so, it should come from the rear and not from under the hood.

Yes I just bought mine and it does the same thing.
I have a 2021 and it does the same thing !!

Totally normal you have to purge the def out of the system it can freeze.
This is normal
Mine does for like a minute...my understanding is it is normal
I own a 2015 Grand Cherokee diesel and it as the electrical buzz. Was told it is normal. Not sure if this relates to the new diesel.

The dealer closest to my house said it is normal.
Yours is louder than mine, but sound does vary. There’s a lot on the forums about it.
Ok thanks,
I just filled out the FCA quality survey and ask them to give me a call regarding my concern.

normal
Yes, has been fine for the last couple years.
I have same jeep and also buzzus for a while. I say normal
I’ve only had my 2021 JLUR ecodiesel for a week, so far I haven’t heard it do this.
Some do it and others don’t. I have not been able to solve that puzzle
my vw makes noise like that and it is the electric throttle body. could be that if that motor has one.
That's correct! My Jetta TDI does it after engine is shut off.

I'm confident it's normal. Some say turbo cooler and some say def purge. I gave up asking. No FCA technician would call me back.
It’s normal. It’s a pump as stated. I have an ecodiesel. Insta: EcoDiesel_jl
