Real hood vents for the Jeep JL and Gladiator @Motobilt,inc
Your probably aware that the hood vents on the Jeep JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator are fake and don’t actually allow hot engine air to escape through them. This is especially important when you’re crawling off-road and not much air is traveling through the radiator. These well designed vents will enable hot gases to escape.

How to change the oil on an EcoDiesel JL Wrangler or JT Gladiator Jeep
Просмотров 343Год назад
Changing your oil more often than the manufacture recommends is going to keep your 3.0L EcoDiesel healthy and give you a peace of mind that it will run for years to come. Due to the EGR value, which redirects exhaust back into the engine intake, the exhaust soot quickly contaminates the oil and shortens the oil life. This is the reason your oil turns so black very quickly. EcoDiesel Engine Oil ...
Prevent your JL Wrangler track bar from breaking off with a brace from WFO Concepts
Просмотров 398Год назад
Some early JL wrangler owners had bad factory welds on the frame side track bar bracket. This led to the track bar bracket tearing off the frame. Regardless, there is a tremendous amount of force on the factory track bar especially during off-road. Do yourself a favor and install an aftermarket brace. And … BANKS Pedal Monster and Derringer !
When re-using the original tire rack bolt (8 total around the 2 rectangular vents) at the top 1 O’clock position, when torquing to specified torque (35 ft-lb I believe but in any case the specified torque with a quality, certified t-wrench ) that bolt sheared off BEFORE 35 ft-lbs. the others did not. However, when talking to Teraflex (good support BTW) they stated that had not had reports of this. I recommended they include their own bolts rather than re-use stock since every other bolt is provided by Teraflex except these bolts. I made a decision to just ride with 7 bolts instead of 8. Hope I don’t see my 37” General Tire heading into the ditch some day. Very nice design on the carrier rack in any case.
Good to know. Thanks for that information
How has it held up?
I have no issues with the carrier. I do know that I will have to readjust (sag) the carrier when I go to 37s. I have it adjusted for 35s and a 37 will sag a little more. I would buy it again if you want my opinion. Thanks for watching.
@ appreciate it! Just bought one
How’s this held up?
No issues with it.
Haven’t visited here and was going to go for the weekend. Is there a specific trail name from 6:30-10:00 you were on? Rocks look fun
FREMONTICA rd. is the trail and the steep section is an unmarked trail off that trail. Yes there aren’t very many rocks at Hollister and this section is fun.
what I am interested is how much water go in and where it goes after that catch area get fill. :)
I honestly don’t track the water amounts. Haven’t had any issues with the water dripping inside the engine compartment. Getting the hot air out has been the priority.
@@santacruzoverlander interesting I will think water will go in if the vehicle is not in motion. Thanks they look super good I was looking at them to purchase it. Thanks 🙏
@@mrjeffry25 yes, regardless of the trays, water will drip on your engine. They do look amazing and are functional to allow some heat out especially when driving slow on the trail.
normal
Yes, has been fine for the last couple years.
Its your axle shafts and ball joints and also change out your wheel bearings as well
It’s definitely one of those three. Haven’t had the time to dive into that.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, never resolved. I haven’t had any issues but never did figure out the noise either. Cheers!
Good video but is definitely not for beginners. You missed a couple steps.
Thanks for the criticism. I can’t recall steps that I missed. Can you give me some insight. I’m a total beginner by the way. If there’s a will there is a way I tell myself. Cheers!
I’m Looking for different mount options, appreciate the video. Did you mount the radio bracket to a piece of wood or was that used just to drill through the carpet?
That piece of wood was only used to drill a hole in the carpet. Thanks for watching and hope the video helped.
Those arentopen either.. my vents are akkthe way open
You’re correct because I have the rain trays installed. Been testing the air flow with and without them. Might take them off. IDK yet.
Nice video
Thanks for watching. Glad to help.
Great video, i have my antenna on a tailgate hinge mount. Cable runs along the passenger side. I worry about the hinge crimping the antenna wire. I also have a ground wire from the antenna through the tailgate and down below the jack to the frame. You gave me the idea to run the antenna wire that way and along the frame to the drain plug. Thanks for the great idea! I have a MXT 115 in the passenger side but the antenna wire will work the same as yours. Also, the radio ground goes over to the area for the door wires. Yours is better. I know my plans for this weekend - wiring!
Awesome. Glad to give you some ideas. Enjoy your weekend of wiring.!
Sweet install vid man!! Keep it up 😎
Thanks man!
Would it be cheaper just to get the ones with the locks so you can lock them in instead of having to put up freaking whole alarm?.
Yes it would be cheaper but I don’t want to use a physical key to get under the hood. When you lock/unlock yours doors with the key FOB the hood does the same. Thanks for watching.
Great video bro appreciate the help!
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.
Dose it come with a manual unlock incase it Doesn't work?
The new version does. Mine as installed uses a 12v unlock. Thanks for watching.
@santacruzoverlander awesome video I'm getting one for my jt
Definitely recommend. Don’t have to worry about people stealing your battery.
@@santacruzoverlander exactly...I don't want anyone having easy access under my hood to do anything to it or steal my voswitch or anything

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Would do this if not for my forward facing camera. :(
Totally understand
It’s hard to turn with the front locker engaged
Absolutely. I need to boost the pressure in the pump or add hydro assist. Coming one of these days.
Did you solve it somehow? I have the same noise in 4wd
No, I never solved nor figured out the noise. Dealer spent days investigating. Just letting it ride.
what kind of camera mount did u use to record this?
I actually used a cheap mount with iPhone that I ducted taped to the tie rod. I only drove in the driveway.
Any chance you know the name of the trail at 13:00.
I believe. Gusto Grade. Thanks for watching!
Any chance you know the name of the trail at 13:00.
That’s going to be an unmarked trail. There are a few of them at Hollister that can be fun. Thanks for watching.
Did you have any trouble with the passenger side clearance for non control arm bolt?
I don’t recall any trouble with the bolts during installation. A rubber mallet is always on hand if persuasion is needed.
My 2017 jeep is doing the same sound!! I've taken it to Southern Off-road, ($2300)!!! Then to total offroad,($750) and I still have the sound!! Im about to replace rear driveshaft, rear axle bearings, front u joints and hub assemblies!! We'll see if this fixes it!!! I hope so, I just bought this jeep in August of 2023 and I have spent $6000 on it already!! Oh and an old school mechanic told me to check the brake caliper pushrod sleeves and bolts for proper lube!! Idk...but please help us to figure this out..Parts swapping is very expensive!
Teresa, sorry that you have spent that amount of dough. My Jeep was/is still under warranty so it didn’t cost me money but instead lot of time at the dealership trying to figure out the noise. I have since then decided to just roll with it and the noise will go away when one ton axles are installed. Thanks for watching and good luck.
|I have the same noise, with no luck on finding the real cause. JKU 2015...
Sorry about that. I’m just living with it until the tons go on. Sooooome daaaaay. lol
Ive got a clicking noise in my rubicon axle too. only happens in 4wd, locked or unlocked doesnt matter. . i regeard it, added 2 piece rcvs, new dynatrac balljoints and reid knuckles. also on rock crawler control arms and steer smarts steering. so only thing left stock if the locker and fad. I was going to try and get the collar that locks the 2 piece axle together permanently and removed the fad to see if thats it. check my page, I have a video of the noise. tell me if its the same. and let me know if you found a fix. that started when the axle was stock around 5K miles. im over 30 now and have wheeled it many times. never been an issue.
I hope you didn’t throw all that money at your axle to get rid of the clicking. No, I haven’t located the clicking noise and the Jeep dealer couldn’t locate it either with all there expensive noise location devices. My stock rubicon axle is 100 percent stock and have learned to live with it for the last 20000 miles. I haven’t had any problems on or offroad the last two years and the clicking noise hasn’t gotten any louder. I did listen to your RUclips video and it sounds similar. To me the sound seems to come from something inside the axle unloading.
HI! Nice engine and nice color! ...even if it's not the Gladiator like mine...😜 Mine has 33,000 km (Italian😉) how is your engine going? Just think, the factory is 100 km from my house💪. My Gladiator comes standard with the center air intake like your Mojave. Have you improved the cooling with this modification kit?😳
I haven’t had any issues with the diesel engine. I am still waiting to have the high pressure fuel pump replaced from the recall. As for the engine cooling. Since it’s winter time I can’t give to a definitive answer yet. I do know that I haven’t been able to get the oil temp to go over 212 degrees F. I will report back with more time behind the wheel and higher outside temps.

Your welcome. Thanks for the comment.
Here's a tip if you'd like me to watch more of your videos.... When talking to the camera like you were at the end of this video... Stop looking at your face on the screen of the camera.... LOOK AT THE LENS If you want to connect with the audience you got to look them in the eye, not over their right shoulder.
Rich, Thanks for the constructive criticism. I will work on that and not use the front of the camera next time. LOL.
So how does it drain any rain coming through the vents? Is it all stainless hardware? The vent steel or aluminum? More info next time you make a video please. TIA
The base has slots in the four corners to allow water to gently drain out. All of the pieces are aluminum (I powder coated mine)and believe the hardware is stainless steel.
Super
Thanks for watching!
Great content. Thanks
Glad to help people with their Jeep build options.
Been a HUGE fan of Motobilt since I met the owner and learned about them about eight years ago at Bantam Jeep Fest when he came there . He and his team have been incredible over the years , if your not paying the extra money for real steel/aluminum products made in the US your really missing out on the quality made parts & fantastic support team they have !!! Your rig looks so much better with those installed !!
Craig, thanks for your comment. They do look much better than the stock plastic ones. I’m definitely a fan of American made high quality products and Motobilt is all that. Cheers!
Nice work! I was wondering if there was a way to drain water from these inner vents in the case of torrential rain. Maybe a plastic valve and tube ?
With a little DIY that could totally be done. Thanks for watching.
Does your engine run cooler? Were you having an issue with overheating?
I’ve only driven it one day since the installation so I can’t say yet. The real test will be when moving slow off road and seeing if the electric fan comes on less. I will post a video using a thermal imaging camera shortly.
No, I haven’t had any overheating issues, but diesels do get hot.
Does water leak onto the engine?
Yes water will leak into the engine bay. The bottom water trays have four slots in them to allow a gentle drip inside the bay. Nothing to be concerned about. Think about driving in the rain and puddles. Definitely more water splashing into engine components. Thanks for the question.
Very good video 👍
👍🏻Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Another great video. Your engine bay looks so clean. I did the mud pit at Hollister and I really need to clean mine.😁
I won’t do that mud pit for that reason. Way too much work.
@@santacruzoverlander😁
So, only the high beam was installed into the aux? Not possible to install low beam to another aux switch? Like aux 2?
I’m sure you could but I didn’t want to waste another switch. The other three switches are already being used. Besides, if you’re going to turn on your off-road lights (cause they can’t be used on the road) I want the most amount of light possible. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Just had my battery stolen out of my 07jk by a tow company. I donated a 07 liberty to cars for kids. Long story short they stole my battery because the battery was dead in the liberty. Instead of jumping it or God forbid getting their own mine was easily accessed
Sorry to hear man. Don’t know why Jeep gives hood access to wranglers and not have a hood cable release like every other vehicle.
@santacruzoverlander it was an immediate lesson and rough welcome to the Jeep Life lol. I will say I'm enjoying the Jeep a lot. It Was worth all the trouble to keep my uncles baby and his memory going!!
If you donate a vehicle to a charity and the battery is dead, I don't think it's legal for them to steal the battery out of your vehicle. Did you call the police?
I probably don't understand something about this. Does the hood come unlocked every time you use the fob to unlock the door?
Hey Doug, yes the hood locks and unlocks with the doors using the FOB. If your doors are unlocked so is the hood. If your doors are locked so is the hood. Cheers!
Is this better than the Mopar hinge reinforcement option?
I haven’t seen the installation process for the Mopar but I don’t think it replaces the factory hinges like the Teraflex. Hope that helps.
