Being slovenian is knowing you live in a small hidden paradise and wanting to share the experience, but still wanting it to stay kind of a secret. The issue is that the ever growing influx of tourists is getting prioritized by the government and companies, that are already trying to ruin the natural beauty by changing the land to build resorts or something. Also a lot of landlords now throw out students during summer to accomodate tourists, more and more apartments are becoming airbnb's, prices in bars get higher, ...
It breaks my heart to see greed ruling over natural beauty. I especially laughed about the emphasis on our sense of pride! It couldn't be more accurate-funnily enough, I never noticed it was so strong until I moved abroad! And yes, we have been recycling for nearly 40 years! Ha ha. One additional aspect that holds great importance to us Slovenians is our cherished 47-kilometer coastline along the Adriatic Sea. It is so tiny, but Slovenians often bring this up in conversations.
Thank you for this video.... I'm from Slovenia and I'm so happy that I live here and all I can say Welcome in my country, enjoy in all natural beauty and please put trash in containers that's all 🌸🤍
Also, the location of Slovenia is so great, you can see so much in just a few days on your way to many other countries in Europe! I love seeing my country through the eyes of its visitors. Before the virus I was working as a tour and a local guide and I miss it very much. This was such a sweet video, thank you so much!
I have visited wonderful Slovenia twice. In addition to Lake Bled, visit Lake Bohinj. It is on the edge of the Julian Alps; so the close proximity was stunning! I was there in February 2007 and the winter scenery brought a haunting beauty to the landscape. Also, travel to the northeast of Slovenia and visit the town of Ptuj. Pronounced as if spitting tobacco: "Ptooey!" Their castle is more impressive than Ljubljana Castle. Ptuj Castle is home to five museums. The best is devoted to costumes for Kurentovanje: the Slovenian version of Mardi Gras. The food in the northeast has a Hungarian influence --- paprika!
Those are some excellent recommendations. Too many tourists are just visiting Ljubljana, Postojna (cave and castle, not even the town), and Bled. In my opinion lake Bohinj is even more beautiful than Bled. And don't even think of skipping lake Jasna (in the furthermost of north-west of Slovenia), even the road to it is breathtaking. Of course like you said, Ptuj is a wonderful town, but I must insist that the tourists also visit the city of Maribor. Also Celje, Velenje and it's man made lake, Izola (maybe instead of Piran), and so on...
When in Bled, just walk 200 metres away from the lake and you will find restaurants with normal prices. (But still dont expect to get a slice of pizza for 1$ like in downtown Manhattan :D )
That's pretty common in Europe. There's a cafe in Cannes opposite where the film festival takes place that charges 6-7 euros for a coffee. A couple of hundred yards away is the local boules club and the coffee is a euro.
Slovenia is located between Balkan and Italy. Italy is world famous for its cousine. Balkan on the other hand has really heavy food, but tasty as hell. So being between those 2 results in really good food.
As a Slovenian, i really recomend visiting lake Bled. I spent so much time there with my family, i also have some family like 10mins away from the lake. Its so beautifull
What is easiest way you can go there without renting a vehicle. Is there an early morning bus from Ljubljana and late return? Will want to spend as much time here as possible time there as possible. Will be there mid-May.
for me as local what the most amazes me about Slovenia is the Castles. We have here so many beautiful castles.we have great history. proud to be born in slovenia.
Celje, Zicka kartuzija, Lemberg, Žovnek are castles in Styria region. Counts of Celje were most and highest dinasty at midle age time. Two queens (at Europe scale) were born there. Prices are more than affordable. Peace.
@@rikta3530 Count of Celje had similar power as Habsburgs had. Absolutely worth a trip - I went from Venice to Ljubljana (is that the craziest concoction of letters you have ever seen!), it was only four hours on a bus from Venice but a whole new world. And then an easy day trip to Lake Bled which is utterly superb.
I've been to Slovenia twice, once when I was 10 years old when it was still part of Yugoslavia and again in 2007 as an adult. The first time I remember doing the same cave with the train (Postojna) and staying on the sea in Opatija. The second time we saw more, the cave castle (Predjama), Ljubljana and of course Lake Bled. I ended up saving money on food by eating at my hotel in Lake Bled rather than in the tourist places and it was still quite good.
The motorcycle magazines rave about the wonderful mountain roads in the Julian Alps. The coastal roads of Croatia are said to be beautiful too. Would love to ride there.
@@boyan64 I just watched a couple of videos of Vršič pass and Mangartsko sedlo (Mangart Saddle). Wow! what beautiful scenery! The Vršič pass' hairpin turns are cobblestones; I assume they would be slippery in the rain. Of these two roads, the Mangartsko sedlo seemed the most spectacular on video. I will have to visit Slovenia's Julian Alps and the Adriatic Coast.
Thanks for video. You are welcomed also to see others destination. Bled, Postojna and Ljubljana are more commercial ones. I miss here Ptuj, Maribor, Celje, Novo mesto...you have made first step with tourist places. So, next time check other places. Peace.

Absolutely gorgeous country and people. I travelled solo and on local buses and trains. Wished I had a rental car to get off the beaten track. But you are right about the cost, certainly have to prepare for the expense, was quite shocked! Came from Venice and Ljubljana was more expensive to eat out than Venice! But I did have the most incredible prawn pasta in my life in Ljubljana, it was unreal (but at Euro 40 it had to be!). Lake Bled and surrounds was incredible and I did not find it overpriced for the value provided in food and accommodation - Air BnB under Euro 100 per night. The Vintgar Gorge walk is an absolute must. Will definitely plan to visit again, I think two weeks with a rental car would be amazing.
I'm glad you had a great time in our country. And yes definitely go for the rental car on your next visit, there are so many places you could visit and even just the drive in the countryside is extremely rewarding (I do recommend a drive trough Triglav national park or a visit to Logar Valley in summer or early fall). Hahaha, well I really hope that was the best pasta of your life, because 40€ for a single dish is absolutely ridiculous. It seems you managed to find the single most expensive restaurant in the city. Even 30€ for the full meal (3 courses and a glass of wine) is kind of on the expensive side.
@@matejmahkovic Ha ha! Thanks for your reply. To clarify, the best prawn pasta in my life also came with half bottle of wine included in the Euro 40, so not too crazy!
It doesn't matter that much, though it's been my observation that Ljubljana looks fairly depressing in the winter (except in late December). The north of the country looks incredible in winter though. As for the weather, it can be very unstable in spring (one day might be hot and sunny and the next day it's snowing), meanwhile the summers are usually very hot, so I'd say June is probably the best. September and the first half of October generally have good weather too.
Yeah... in recent years the weather has become completely unpredictable. 20C in November, 25C in February and March, 15 C in June and completely random rain in between. Still I would recommend something like very late September or early October, the weather stabilizes by then. Not too hot, not too cold, and the autumn is a sight to behold in Slovenia. Also if you are not that squeamish, you can still swim in the sea or lakes at that time.

Also, the location of Slovenia is so great, you can see so much in just a few days on your way to many other countries in Europe!
I love seeing my country through the eyes of its visitors. Before the virus I was working as a tour and a local guide and I miss it very much. This was such a sweet video, thank you so much!
I went to Slovenia in 2018, I’d love to go back. It’s like a mini Switzerland in my opinion ❤️
💚
Aww thank you
Its about the same size lol
It is. But not economy wise although they promised that at the breakup back in 91
Now that you've started it - it's actually the other way around - it's Switzerland that is almost like Slovenia, only a bit bigger, ha ha.
I have wanted to go to Slovenia for a long time. Still wanna go
Do come, you'll be very welcome.
@@kkmardigrce thanks
I live in Slovenia, feel free to come!

Thank you for such a great review about my country.
I loved it! Thank you for having an incredible country!
Visiting Slovenia is on my bucket list. My mom's family was from there and I've always wanted to visit.
I wanna go my dream country
Very cool video! Greetings from Slovenija.
Slovenia was never on the bucket list till this vid wolter 😁
When in Bled, just walk 200 metres away from the lake and you will find restaurants with normal prices. (But still dont expect to get a slice of pizza for 1$ like in downtown Manhattan :D )
Yes, but the quality of food is much more better than in Manhattan.
That's pretty common in Europe. There's a cafe in Cannes opposite where the film festival takes place that charges 6-7 euros for a coffee. A couple of hundred yards away is the local boules club and the coffee is a euro.
This settles it. One day, I'm going to Slovenia! I already knew it was pretty, but I didn't know about the food :)
make sure you see the river Soča it's so beautiful also visit the coast (city called Piran)
Slovenia is located between Balkan and Italy. Italy is world famous for its cousine. Balkan on the other hand has really heavy food, but tasty as hell. So being between those 2 results in really good food.
You are welcome.
As a Slovenian, i really recomend visiting lake Bled. I spent so much time there with my family, i also have some family like 10mins away from the lake. Its so beautifull
Is late April a good time to visit 🤔
@@brizzle3903 perfectly fine. If you go during the winter ur gona have the snowy ideal, and basicaly any time of the year its stunning.
What is easiest way you can go there without renting a vehicle. Is there an early morning bus from Ljubljana and late return? Will want to spend as much time here as possible time there as possible. Will be there mid-May.
Wow I have known for a while that Slovenia was a stunningly beautiful country, but wow! What a gorgeous country.
💚
Cody...he didn't show our mountains, Alps...for me there is a paradise.
What about the coastal area and the sea? :)
You can gu from sea to ski area in 1.5h :)
Yes please visit us! We love getting tourists here, im so happy people are finally talking about it
May 2024 from Canada. Can’t wait! 😀
Hvala for another Slovenija video. 🇸🇮❤️😁 BTW, that Slovenian pride extends out even to the diaspora living abroad.

for me as local what the most amazes me about Slovenia is the Castles. We have here so many beautiful castles.we have great history. proud to be born in slovenia.
Seriously. Tons of castles and all seem to be in gorgeous settings
Celje, Zicka kartuzija, Lemberg, Žovnek are castles in Styria region. Counts of Celje were most and highest dinasty at midle age time. Two queens (at Europe scale) were born there. Prices are more than affordable. Peace.
@@rikta3530
Count of Celje had similar power as Habsburgs had. Unfortaly for the Count of Celje and Slovenian the only successor which survived was a female.(15th cent)
According to agreement between Counts of Celje and Habsburgs the one who faill to have a male sucessor shall be taken over by the other which have a male sucessor
BTW
The last French king was by his will buried in Slovenia as well.
The culinary experience is a combination of Italian, Austrian and Slovenian influences. Huge variety and absolutely delicious.
and also Balkan influence...
Also Hungarian - Prekmurje/Prlekija
Lol it's all Serbian. Slovenia didn't even exist 20 years ago.
@@lonelydemigod3378 Don`t be so anoying with this arogant attitude. Slovene books were printing before yours. And Primož Trubar has payed for printing of yours.

Another superb video! I absolutely loved Slovenia!
Thanks Joe!
Thx. With love from sLOVEnia 🐸
We hope to at least spend a few days in Slovenia 🇸🇮 on our trip to Italy after covid. It looks beautiful.
Absolutely worth a trip - I went from Venice to Ljubljana (is that the craziest concoction of letters you have ever seen!), it was only four hours on a bus from Venice but a whole new world. And then an easy day trip to Lake Bled which is utterly superb.
Visit Bela krajina, best food, nice nature, Kolpa river and very kind people❤️
Thank you for the recommendation!
Thx for such a fantastic presentation of oir country. Welcome, Dobrodoshli!
Looks cool!! with beautiful views, clean country, thanks for sharing this video
Their desserts are excellent.
Really nice presentation. Thank you for this.
SLOVENIJA is BEAUTIFUL
I've been to Slovenia twice, once when I was 10 years old when it was still part of Yugoslavia and again in 2007 as an adult. The first time I remember doing the same cave with the train (Postojna) and staying on the sea in Opatija. The second time we saw more, the cave castle (Predjama), Ljubljana and of course Lake Bled. I ended up saving money on food by eating at my hotel in Lake Bled rather than in the tourist places and it was still quite good.
I am glad you liked Slovenia.
hi from slovenia
The motorcycle magazines rave about the wonderful mountain roads in the Julian Alps. The coastal roads of Croatia are said to be beautiful too. Would love to ride there.
just expect heavy traffic in the coastal region anywhere around summer
Best motorcycle exhausts are also from Slovenia-Akrapovic
Would not recomend going during the summer. Instead of some pittoresque drive you would get stuck in traffic jam for hours
Bruce...search Vršič pass...there is super mountain road. Also Mangartsko sedlo.
Peace.

Wonderful! Thank you for your very nice words about my country and people and I am glad you enjoyed Slovenia. For a bit more, Slovenia also has the sea area of the country, some well-known cities on the Adriatic coast. Also many famous thermal springs. Terme Čatež is the largest thermal spring in Europe! Complex with several hotels and many swimming pools and water attractions. Best regards from Slovenia!

Never had a desire to go until watching this video. Bucketlist for sure! Great video, Mark!
We too loved Slovenia!
Thank you for such amazing presentation.
yeah prices here by us in Slovenia are really like in Austria, Italy or Germany but our wages are like in Croatia, Serbia...
Which months are great to visit Slovenia ? Amazing video as always
Nice review! You should check the beautiful river Soča near the Alps. It will melt your face off😍
