All ex-Yugoslavian countries are pretty safe, but because of the media people tend to assume it's not and get positively surprised when they visit. I'd say Slovenia is definitely the ex-Yu country that is doing the best, we all have a lot of looking up to do, in the environmentally conscious department especially. There's a pretty big cafe in this region, so greetings from Belgrade, the city with the first cafe in whole of Europe (year 1522), it's a big part of our culture. :D
I think I’ve had my most favourite lunch there, believe it was called the shepherds meal. Served in in 3 glass jars sausage, an oatmeal and sauerkraut with a lovely beer. And don’t forget Julian Alps
Slovenia in general is a gem. Very underrated country. I highly recommend going. Next time that I am in the region, I plan on making a point to go back.
A wonderful little capital city. A fairy tale of a place where you walk down numerous old town streets and can often look up and see the castle on the hill.
Funny, hearing you talk about how clean it is. I'm from Slovenia and when we visited Japan, the first thing I noticed it's how clean it was compared to Slovenia. Otherwise, I do agree on cleanliness of Ljubljana itself. EDIT: Oh yeah, I love how small our country is for travelling purposes. You can plan a one day trip and see so much, if you start early.
@@borishribljan she got her education from Ljubljana University right? Anyway all Americans know Slovenia because of Melania. I guess Slovenians are very proud of her.
I appreciate the kind word from your video and many others from the comment about our country. It’s always fun and interesting meeting new lovely people. But as a Slovene I must say that the tourism in the past years (despite Covid) has massively grown, which we are really not used to cause as you say we are a peaceful place which is turning into a non peaceful place more and more. No hate here, just concerned of so many advertisements of our country that it has an impact on the locals like not wanting to go to the center or around the city cause it’s always so crowded now, sadly. But thank you for your kind words!
I just watched this video. Great job Mark. You really caught a lot of the Spirit of this wonderful city. This city, country and people really pulled me in when we were here before the pandemic. We fell in Love. Watching your video really makes me want to come again. Aiming for next Spring.
I went to high school near the Ljubljana Castle and we ran up there during PE. It's not a long walk, on busy days the walk will probably take less time than waiting for the funicular.
The young and vibrant spirit of the Slovenian capital often stuns first-time visitors. Lean back & relax is also a motto of our city - having a refreshment in one of the numerous cafes along the riverbanks or in the Old Town is a good way to observe and feel the pulse of our everyday life.
wonderfull video. I am born ljubljana lady and don't agree only in one point - I think that is better a walk to the castle than the funicular. ljubljana is really beatifull city.
We are currently riding across Europe from Zurich to Venice on a tandem. Ljubljana and other towns, it's people, mountains and countryside are making Slovenia our favourite spot on this tour!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Don't expect to take the train from Italy to Ljubljana or around Slovenia. There are trains, but in Slovenia "the bus is king." Love the city and country, though. Amazing. Open Kitchen is wonderful.
Trains are slower, yes, but they are quite comfortable, and the views are spectacular, especially where you travel to Zidani Most, it's gorgeous travelling through the valley. And some trains have catering (at least the Emona to Vienna), which is one of my favourite pastimes. Taking the train is not as straightforward as taking a bus (there are numerous buses from Trieste to Slovenia, and only very few trains, often with numerous changes), but it's fun nonetheless, even more if you are a train fan like me!
Even if I never get here at least I know how to pronounce Ljubljana now, I'm SURE it'll come up in a quiz somewhere sometime and now I'm prepared!! Thanks Wolters World :-)
I'm glad I found your review of Ljubljana. I'm going there next week (from the UK) and really looking forward to it now! That dessert looked delicious!
As for traditional slovenian food ask for "Enolončnice". Meat and vegetables cooked together, and there is a wide variety of them for everyone's taste. If in Slovenia, visit the lakes (Bohinj, Bled) and the mountains. As for the Adriatic coast I'll be honest: the few settlements on the seashore are nice, but the beaches aren't that great, so don't be disappointed. For beaches on the Adriatics Croatia might be a better choice. Wealthier slovenians have second homes there with a reason. Slovenians are diligent, hard working people, with a work culture similar to north-western Europe. Their folk music (Oberkrainer style) is a unique version of the Alpine music, worth listening to!
I've been waiting a year for your Slovenia videos. 🇸🇮 I was so looking forward to showing it to my family in April, 2019, and you know what happened to that trip... One year later, we still haven't been able to do it... But I'm happy to say that I've been studying Slovenian with a tutor on italki. By the time we finally go, my Slovenian will be much better! 😁 I haven't been there since 1997. I'm half Slovenian, so it's always a special place for me. ❤️🇸🇮 Hvala lepa! -Sarah
I will! My in-laws that live in Brazil were supposed to meet us there, and they are having a rough time with Covid right now. But we will go as soon as we can. 😁
As a Slovenian that spent their whole childhood in Ljubljana, one of the things that I loved so much about different cafes as a kid is that when I messed up an order or spit my drink, the workers would apologize for actually nothing
If you love Cevapi and Burek and if you ever plan taveling to Balkans again, please visit Bosnia and Hercegovina, you can literally eat them in every restaurant, i grew up on that food, there are many other great specialties like Sirnica and Zeljanica, made like Burek but with Spinach or Cheese, then Sarma ( stuffed cabbage) suho meso ( smoked dried beef) sudjuk (smoked dried bee sausage) Lamb ( jagnjetina) and much much more. Bosnia and Hercegovina is Beutiful country with many Lakes , Mountains, Hills Rivers . Greetings.
@@ballkans Would love to go there again, but I'd day it's not for everyone. The country is beautiful, but tourist infrastructure is still in the process of developing, there are some good hotels and restaurants, but there are many who are quite basic. Nothing wrong with that, and it's definitely improving, but if you have hotels with bathrooms built in the 80s and never updated, there is still room for improvement, too.
Capital is getting more and more expensive because of tourism. As a local I stopped going to restaurants and bars. They are ripping us off. I know for some it's cheap especially for some tourists. But once you start ripping off. They lose first local buyers than later also tourists.
Been watching your videos for a while and I'm very pleased you made a video about my city and my country 🙏 The pronunciation of Ljubljana is very difficult for foreigners but you said it quite well. Most of us locals just call it "Lub-lana" without the "J's" 😁 I can see why tourists would use the funicular but again most of us locals just go up to the castle on foot. Its not even that far or high, you get there in 5min from the old city center 👍 Otherwise a very well researched and observed guide that should help a lot of tourists that will come to our beautiful country ☺️🇸🇮
I'm from Slovenia and I would really, really love to live here as a tourist every single day of my life ❤️ But back to reality 🤣🙈 I agree, Slovenia is beautiful, we miggt have good food, but at the end of the day we still have to make a living and probably don't have much time to experience all this as it is represented in the video. But, hey, you're welcome 🤗 It is always good to hear good things about your country.
I can't afford to travel in a funicular because I am a bit too much overweight, but I have to admit that Ljubljana is a magnificent city to travel to, so, as I am very fond of walking, I'll take as many strolls as possible, when I get there.

I visited Ljubliana in 1999, when on leave from SFOR in Bosnia.
It is half a lifetime ago for me, and I hope to be able to bring my family to visit sometime, as I was very pleasantly surprised by the city and the people there!
It's so nice to see a video describing our city and country in such a positive way, many Slovenians take these things for granted and complain a lot. I try my best not to be one of those people.
Yeeep, these video and such a positive comments just made my day better.ly all❤
its the same in croatia.. i mean, the country is beautiful, but the quality and standard of everyday life is not the best🤷♂️

I miss Slovenia I got family there seriously one of the most beautiful countries I’ve ever visited
As a Slovenian, and i live in Ljubljana i have to say i am blessed, and its nice to see so professional and beautiful description of our country! Thank you and.. everything is true😆
Best regards from sLOVEnia and have a nice time staying here. Ljubljana is beautiful, but don't miss our nature. We have beautiful mountains, caves, lakes... My favorite cave is Snežna jama, and you have to see Soča river. Most important thing is that you enjoy. Drgač pa zaka smo tu med komentarji sami Slovenci hahaha... sami sebi svetujemo lol.
It was one of trips I made last year when things was relatively open for Europeans. It was a great visit.
I am moving to Ljubljana, from Argentina, in a few months. My first time going to Slovenia... thanks for the information, great video!
Omg same! I have never been there and I'm going house hunting next week🤣 the internet inspired me to go live there. Are you already there?
@@samanthaj9286 At the end I am going to Ljubljana around December with my family. If you want to get in contact with me on Instagram @lucilaogallar. Good luck!
Man, I love ur videos. I am a Ljubljana native, you pretty much nailed all of it. Good reporting. That goes for other European places as well...
Oh yeah!! We've had it, on a hike. Was it pastirski obrok?
Wow-that city looks beautiful! Definitely putting Ljubljana on my to do list!
It's great
WELCOME!
Visited 100 cities. Ljubljana is at my top 5 to visit again just to relax, sit down at a restaurant and enjoy the small shops in historic buildings.
A city that is still on my list! Thanks for reminding to make this a priority next time I’m in Europe! ☺️☺️
Yoh are very welcome
I live in Ljubljana and you'r very respectful
Slovenia just sounds awesome
When was this filmed? It looks warm so must have been summer, and things look normal so I'm assuming it was before the pandemic?
Atleast 2 years ago
Thanks, that makes sense.
It was pre pandemic Gabe.
@@woltersworld Right on, that's what I figured. I miss those days!
Me too my friend.
Omg this video made me miss times before the pandemic and this amazing vibe of our capital city so much!
Wow, I've never heard of this place and now I wanna go! Thank you for this.
I knew it but now I really want to go 😅
Wondering what time was this filmed
Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks), Goran Dragić (Miami Heat), Anže Kopitar (LA Kings), Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) etc... are Slovenians!
@@borishribljan Few Americans care about sports but we all know the best first lady ever the legendary Melania Trump who used to live in Ljubljana.
@@tongobong1 Sevnica, not Ljubljana.
LJUBLJANA - SLOVENIJA IS WONDERFUL
My, my! The best set of "Don'ts" anywhere.
I just watched this video. Great job Mark. You really caught a lot of the Spirit of this wonderful city. This city, country and people really pulled me in when we were here before the pandemic. We fell in Love. Watching your video really makes me want to come again. Aiming for next Spring.
Ok. Im in Love with slovenia. I'm going now! 💕 Love from North Portugal 🇵🇹
I'm Slovenian, moved to Portugal. Both of our countries are beautiful 💙💚
@@sunu84 Hi
Gorgeous city and you represent it beautifully. I was there with my granddaughter and we both loved it.
nikad nisam bio u Ljubljani za 33 godina zivota. Bruka. Moracu uskoro. pozdrav
I went to high school near the Ljubljana Castle and we ran up there during PE. It's not a long walk, on busy days the walk will probably take less time than waiting for the funicular.
This was really interesting, thank You! For some reason I find it difficult to find your other videos about Slovenia. Would like see those also!
I planned a trip there for last April...sadly we didn't go, but we shall take that trip for sure, oneday...thanks for this vedio!
What a nice video
I am from Ljubljana, and it is definetely worth visiting
Love this, great summary of a great city. I miss it every day.
I miss traveling so much
Thanks Mark! Heading there now, looks like a great place ;) Too bad we won't be there on Friday. Great video.
Thank you for making such a great video of my hometown! :)
Slovenian coast is also nearby. In 1 hour by car you are already swimming in the sea🏊🏊😍😊
I'm from Croatia and I truly love Slovenia. Such a nice, clean, safe, peaceful place. Miss going there ❤❤❤
The young and vibrant spirit of the Slovenian capital often stuns first-time visitors. Lean back & relax is also a motto of our city - having a refreshment in one of the numerous cafes along the riverbanks or in the Old Town is a good way to observe and feel the pulse of our everyday life.
Lucky, lucky children! What great parents!
great tip about using Ljubljana as a base to explore the country!
wonderfull video.
Thank you, pozdravčki from Ljubljana!
I am happy that most People love slovenia becouse I am a slovenian
And yes Slovenia is amazing🇸🇮
My mother's birth place, it's so beautiful there hope to visit it again soon
Even if I never get here at least I know how to pronounce Ljubljana now, I'm SURE it'll come up in a quiz somewhere sometime and now I'm prepared!! Thanks Wolters World :-)
Totally, it’s always great learning about new places! I also love learning about different countries ☺️ that’s why I started my channel as well
I'm glad I found your review of Ljubljana. I'm going there next week (from the UK) and really looking forward to it now! That dessert looked delicious!
Was there last year. Very nice people and beautiful city.
Welcome to our city!! It's so nice that you came here
As for traditional slovenian food ask for "Enolončnice".
Their folk music (Oberkrainer style) is a unique version of the Alpine music, worth listening to!
since I was 7 years old, I walked home alone at night and went to training, so he is right about safety here
Loved this city!
Thanks! We will be touring with a choir in December and we're looking forward to our time in Jjublhana.

Just come to Slovenia! Welcome!!!
3:40 That woman and her dog just disappeared. What have you done?
Absolute favorite thing to eat in Slovenia, cevapi with ajvar. Only seen it there and Croatia. Could eat it by the kilo
If you love Cevapi and Burek and if you ever plan taveling to Balkans again, please visit Bosnia and Hercegovina, you can literally eat them in every restaurant, i grew up on that food, there are many other great specialties like Sirnica and Zeljanica, made like Burek but with Spinach or Cheese, then Sarma ( stuffed cabbage) suho meso ( smoked dried beef)
sudjuk (smoked dried bee sausage)
Lamb ( jagnjetina) and much much more.

Thank you very much for the wonderful description of Ljubljana and our Slovenia in general. I hope you visit us again in the future!😊
Capital is getting more and more expensive because of tourism.
As a local I stopped going to restaurants and bars. They are ripping us off. I know for some it's cheap especially for some tourists. But once you start ripping off. They lose first local buyers than later also tourists.
I just got here, and I'm enjoying the hostel of this nice city.I'm happy staying in a historical place❤️
Nice video, thankyou for sharing. I loved the whole of Slovenia...and I put weight on too :)
Greetings from Ljubljana. In Slovenian language: Pozdravčki iz Ljubljane.
Dobra si videt, res zelo apetitlih ;)
Been watching your videos for a while and I'm very pleased you made a video about my city and my country 🙏 The pronunciation of Ljubljana is very difficult for foreigners but you said it quite well. Most of us locals just call it "Lub-lana" without the "J's" 😁 I can see why tourists would use the funicular but again most of us locals just go up to the castle on foot. Its not even that far or high, you get there in 5min from the old city center 👍 Otherwise a very well researched and observed guide that should help a lot of tourists that will come to our beautiful country ☺️🇸🇮
Slovenia sounds wonderful. My Swedish cousins talk about retiring here. And look at the food!
I'm from Slovenia and I would really, really love to live here as a tourist every single day of my life ❤️
But back to reality 🤣🙈
I agree, Slovenia is beautiful, we miggt have good food, but at the end of the day we still have to make a living and probably don't have much time to experience all this as it is represented in the video.
But, hey, you're welcome 🤗
It is always good to hear good things about your country.
Thank You so,so very very much for such frendly review. And yes, Tourist appreciated a lot and anytime. Mark from Ljubljana.
been there 13 years ago. time to go back.
I can't afford to travel in a funicular because I am a bit too much overweight, but I have to admit that Ljubljana is a magnificent city to travel to, so, as I am very fond of walking, I'll take as many strolls as possible, when I get there.
